    I like to think everyone in his band studied music for years on end at a high academic level.
    learning to read music, music theory and how to master their instruments,
    only to sing a song about how gay someone is

    • @wertor666
      @wertor666 2 года назад +34

      Unironically, that's an accomplishment when you have abilities to sing about that topic with some kind of value

    • @chrisholder4978

      Unfortunately, most improvisational artists are self-taught and cannot read music.
      Thus, they play by ear. Sorry to burst your bubbly little bubble....

      @@chrisholder4978 Not the case. Zappa could read, write, compose and arrange music. Since the politically correct killed the sense of humor, these two songs would certainly be cancelled today by idiots who could not get it. Long live Humor and Long Live Music!

      They totally were. Steve Vai, Ruth Underwood, Terry Bozzio, George Duke, Ike WIllis, so many of them were foremost talent of the era and have stories about how nervous they were auditioning for Zappa. He composed most of his music in hotel rooms on tour, the practice sessions were intense, and there's a song Zappa named after his own sheet music called "The Black Page."
      Though he definitely listed toward more classical compositions in his late career with the Yellow Shark Orchestra, this band really is the answer to "What if you got the best musicians you could find to play the most sneakily-complicated music imaginable and it's just a shitpost calling you a copelord."

    Wait a sec, isn't the line "Do you really wanna hurt me?" a caustic reference to a Culture Club song? I know he didn't like David Bowie, but i didn't know about his dislike of CC. I love Zappa and if my guesses are correct, then the song becomes even better for me! I absolutely like it

I'm 52 which sadly is a little too young to have seen him live, but I can still remember remarkable details about the moment I heard Camarillo Brillo playing on the radio driving my old red Toyota pickup on a rural NC highway as a winter storm broke up and the sun broke through, and thought WHO the F()@K is THIS??? Fortunately the DJ announced artist and album at the end of the song rather than the beginning, and from that moment on, I knew I was gonna love it, it's a way of life!
