Heartbreaking to hear of his passing, I never knew his name was Joseph Michael until recently and my oldest sons name is Michael and my unborn son is Joseph, maybe between the two of them they can keep the ZZ Top sound going into their generation
Saw them at the Boston Garden ... Foghat..Blue Oyster Cult ... hot as hell! Loudest concert ever heard. .... Then ZZ came on. Blew the roof off the place! Top 3 live bands ever saw.
I have been listening to these guys since 1972, the year I earned my Drivers License! Yes, my car had an 8 track player in it, and myself and a few friends when to the store to buy a few 8 tracks! One of the was ZZ Top! It was listened to for many years, now I have it on CD, and I have never stopped playing their music!
I can’t believe it’s already been a year since Dusty went on to rock heavens crowds ! Man does time fly. On my way to the rnr hall of fame today for the first time.
I find that they are kind of sloppy, which is great. Gibbons' performance isn't tight but like someone else said here, Frank (as well as Dusty) keeps it all together. Thats what I feel is great about the Stones. Charlie did a similar job to Frank in keeping the train on the tracks.
Still Classy Dudes! I will never forget one of the Award Shows from many years back, ZZ Top was playing a few of their songs. The crowd would not let them stop!
I saw them on their first tour, without beards. They opened for Humble Pie, I think it was. Going in, we were like, "What the hell is a ZZ TOP?!" Walking out we were like, OH, THAT'S A ZZ TOP!!!!
Just remember, Dusty Hill was adamant about not letting Hank Hill cut his beard off to save his life...until he was told it was a cartoon and he could keep his🤣🤣🤣
I have a love and hate relationship with watching ZZ Top live. I Love it because hands down seeing them live was the best concert I have ever been too, I hate them because they make it look so freaking easy. Even back in the 70-80's these guys where making it look like they could play in their sleep.
+niceguytim 'Chords'. The word is 'chords'. Cords are what people who can't afford wireless units use to plug their guitars into their amps. Word to the wise, son--It's only simple if you can spell it right. I would also submit that just because something is harmonically simple doesn't mean it's simple across the board. If you were to transcribe Billy's guitar solo, you'd find some extremely complex polyrhythms, syncopations and playing around the beat.
They came to my little town in Tennessee 6-7 years ago, played in a little auditorium and killed it. It was so cool to these giants of rock in an intimate setting. Lucky I was able to see their greatness in person.
Twice in my life have I watched a 3 man band play and marvel at how much sound just those 3 made. I absolutely do not mean volume, I mean "sound". You really just have to experience it. It's stunning. The other band was Grand Funk.
My favorite Zz top shit was before I was old enough to pay attention to music. I'm 47 now. Tres Hombres, Deguello, are some of the ones I remember my dad jamming! Even though I didn't enjoy the 80's stuff as much, it was still killer! These guys are legends!
I saw them in VANCOUVER opening for Leon Russel. Tre Hombre was due to be released soon after this show. My first rock concert experience. It was epic.
I just saw them May 3 in Oklahoma, from the third row. Also got a picture with the guys.Great show, great audio, they obviously love putting on a show, 2 hrs no opening act 10 min break and never broke a sweat.
Well im from England, to Germany,to England to Canada. but there is no place as cool as Texas! Houston to Galviston, and on the Rhapsody of the seas (hired as a guitar player) I met so many cool Texans !! down to earth & very awsome people!!
I'll never forget the time me and my girl scored front-row tickets for this concert. Right in front of Dusty. And it was everything - and more, of what you're thinking right now.
Amazing what three guys can do with two guitars and a drum set. No dancers, no autotune, no pre0recorded tracks. Oh yeah, and the song is from 1973, next year (2013) it'll be 40 years old, and it still sounds like it was written yesterday.
I remember being young and hearing them the first time on the radio. I thought to myself, wow this must be a big band, at least 5 or 6 guys. I was astonished to learn later it was only 3 guys!
Some of the wood in Billy's custom-made guitar was taken from the shack that was Muddy Water's home on the plantation where he grew up outside of Clarksdale, Mississippi, and lived for many years before joining the great migration north to Chicago--making it truly a sacred instrument.
TheMJN75 that wasn't planned the guy's disbanded never quitting the band for several years and finally came together and to each surprise dusty and Billy had grown beards without neither one knowing and frank well the rest is history
I used to run into Dusty Hill all the time at the Burlap Barrel BAr on Houton's westside. It was small smoky hole in the wall bar, one pool table, cheap beer and not many people ever in there. I think the bartender lady was his girlfriend. No one bugged him...it was a neighborhood place to get drunk alone, quietly and and go home.. the was the mid 80's. His El Dorado Cadi had personalized plates that read...ZZ
There are so many groups/singers that have made the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, in my opinion that should never be there. These guys should have been inducted long ago before this!
@Maidenize666 - Has the release date been already announced? The anxiety is killin' me! It's been, ida know, four years since they've hit the studio for the first time and almost eight years since the release of Mescalero. They've nevere made us wait so long for a new album...
Rest In Peace Joseph Michael "Dusty" Hill. 07/28/21
Heartbreaking to hear of his passing, I never knew his name was Joseph Michael until recently and my oldest sons name is Michael and my unborn son is Joseph, maybe between the two of them they can keep the ZZ Top sound going into their generation
What ever you done.not on mr.want nothing of anything to know is nothing to do with me
That's for real
The most underrated guitar player of all time!!! He's damn good every time he plucks them strangs!
Underrated????????? By whom??
Man, just the joy these guys had playing together is beautiful.
Saw them at the Boston Garden ... Foghat..Blue Oyster Cult ... hot as hell! Loudest concert ever heard. .... Then ZZ came on. Blew the roof off the place! Top 3 live bands ever saw.
Rest In Peace Dusty. You will always be remembered.
I have been listening to these guys since 1972, the year I earned my Drivers License!

One of the was ZZ Top! It was listened to for many years, now I have it on CD, and I have never stopped playing their music!
its sad but i still remember 8 tracks as well.damn im old.
I can’t believe it’s already been a year since Dusty went on to rock heavens crowds ! Man does time fly. On my way to the rnr hall of fame today for the first time.
These guys have major fun on stage. What a career.
One of the things I love about them is they are right on the money there ain't no sloppiness at all in this band.
Trevor Marty six years after the fact but it’s because of the drummer in all
Honesty. Dusty and Rev Willie are masters but Mr. Beard holds it down
I ain't askin for much
Interestingly, Jeff Beck says he loves playing with them because they're sloppy.
I find that they are kind of sloppy, which is great. Gibbons' performance isn't tight but like someone else said here, Frank (as well as Dusty) keeps it all together. Thats what I feel is great about the Stones. Charlie did a similar job to Frank in keeping the train on the tracks.

Wow! Amazing band....when he picks out those 'bluenotes' Billy's guitar sounds like shards of hot ice going right through you - awesome performance!
That bass sound! Wicked!
One of the most underrated guitarists in rock history
I saw them on their first tour, without beards. They opened for Humble Pie, I think it was. Going in, we were like, "What the hell is a ZZ TOP?!" Walking out we were like, OH, THAT'S A ZZ TOP!!!!
cool!
Gimme more Humble Pie, Man.
Lucky bloody u!
I'm jealous. I got to see them, but I'd love to be able to say that I saw them back in the day. Old concert stories are bad ass.
No beards? MAN, you're old! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is the Rock and Roll that belongs in the hall of fame.
Just remember, Dusty Hill was adamant about not letting Hank Hill cut his beard off to save his life...until he was told it was a cartoon and he could keep his🤣🤣🤣

lol aint that the truth
Satyr000 all their songs are 3 simple cords.
+Fulgrim I saw them in Gainseville Fla...a LONG time ago....they rocked it like it was easy.
+niceguytim 'Chords'. The word is 'chords'. Cords are what people who can't afford wireless units use to plug their guitars into their amps. Billy Gibbons can do more with one note than most speed guitar freaks can with 20.....and any guitar player worth his weight knows this!
These guys are the epitome of cool. 🤘🏽🤘🏽
That guitar sound that guitar tone.....!!!!
DAMN!!!! These guys were NO novelty act! This is the heart of rock & roll!
They came to my little town in Tennessee 6-7 years ago, played in a little auditorium and killed it. It was so cool to these giants of rock in an intimate setting. Lucky I was able to see their greatness in person.
August 2021!!
Youre damn right Im still listening!!!!
Twice in my life have I watched a 3 man band play and marvel at how much sound just those 3 made. I absolutely do not mean volume, I mean "sound". You really just have to experience it. It's stunning.
The other band was Grand Funk.
And Rush
Cream
Grand Funk Railroad
And the Groundhogs!
I've seen them 7 times and each time was a treat to say the least!
Carl Pallini they always bring something new to the table its great I've been 4 times. They are the classiest rock band ever.
Only 4 for me, but hopefully will get some more opportunities
My favorite Zz top shit was before I was old enough to pay attention to music. I'm 47 now. Tres Hombres, Deguello, are some of the ones I remember my dad jamming! Even though I didn't enjoy the 80's stuff as much, it was still killer! These guys are legends!

I really love how Frank Beard 's play is just effortless.
been a fan since 73.heard la grange at the bear and bull tavern in richmond,ky.while attending eastern university.
I saw them in VANCOUVER opening for Leon Russel. Tre Hombre was due to be released soon after this show. My first rock concert experience. It was epic.
Definitely the coolest dudes on stage! Had tickets to see them next month-guess that won’t happen now. :( Hope they get to reschedule soon.
I just saw them May 3 in Oklahoma, from the third row. Also got a picture with the guys.Great show, great audio, they obviously love putting on a show, 2 hrs no opening act 10 min break and never broke a sweat.

together with Rush!
Cheers to you mate. People like you who actually were there are my heroes.
I'm just a 90s kid who grew up loving great music.
Texas boogie woogie bluesy rock at its BEST!
I'll never forget the time me and my girl scored front-row tickets for this concert. Right in front of Dusty. And it was everything - and more, of what you're thinking right now.
The epitome and embodiment of cool....ZZ TOP.
Love these guys! Classic
This groove will never die!!!!!

dusty is a killer bass guitarist too and frank locks some serious grooves like in la grange when billy is doing that rolling trill.
One of the coolest bands around🤙🤙
So true
I remember being young and hearing them the first time on the radio. I thought to myself, wow this must be a big band, at least 5 or 6 guys. I was astonished to learn later it was only 3 guys!
gotta love zz, listen to their early stuff... killer!
Surely one of the best bands in the whole world and one of the most instantly recognisable with those beards.
Some of the wood in Billy's custom-made guitar was taken from the shack that was Muddy Water's home on the plantation where he grew up outside of Clarksdale, Mississippi, and lived for many years before joining the great migration north to Chicago--making it truly a sacred instrument.
Rest in Peace Dusty
i think it's safe to say that there are no rockers today that are even close to as good as these guys
These are the coolest guys on the planet.

If any kids are wanting to form a three-piece band, you could do worse than listen to ZZ TOP - awesome rhythm and musicianship.
Thank God they are still around somewhere.

even the young ones cant beat them
The mix may be a little odd, but then again, it is nice to hear Dustys bass higher in the mix. He has a lovely, growly sound here.
Prob second best performance of tush this last decade

Best bar fight band I've ever seen.
Funny how the one guy in the band named Beard is the one without a beard...lol

I think the bartender lady was his girlfriend. No one bugged him...it was a neighborhood place to get drunk alone, quietly and and go home.. the was the mid 80's.
