    Great video. The photography is very good. I’m inexperienced with this kind of stuff. Do you think suitcase connectors would work just as well? Thanks.

      I have used them before worked fine, I just prefer to solder.

    Great video series. Enjoying it.
    Just one comment on soldering. That "smoke" that comes off the solder is the rosin, or flux, built into the solder. When you carry solder to the joint, you burn all that off. Best way to solder is to apply the iron to the joint then apply the solder at close to the same time, rather than carrying solder to the joint on the tip. You'll find soldering much easier doing that and you will also have much neater joints as the flux in your solder will do its job instead of burning off.

      Found it in my local Lidl very handy if you are not used to stripping wire

    Hi. Great video. How far apart are the droppers?

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  3 месяца назад +2

      On this layout I put droppers on every "corner". I have since changed it to DCC and have added more droppers for better reliability.

    Quick Q: @5:59 approx it shows the last droppers going direct to the block. Is that because it saved a job soldering (I’m thinking that’s it) or is there another reason. Apologies if it’s obvious but it’s just to be certain. Thanks again, Angel.

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  8 месяцев назад +1

      That is the connection to to power supply. I used blocks to make changing over supply easier. I wired this for DC but this makes it easier to connect a DCC controller in the future.

    Brilliant series for beginners - could this be adapted for the Hornby Mixed freight DCC intro set?

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  Год назад +2

      Thank you. Yes, very easily. Just connect both Buswires to your DCC controller. Make sure the polarity of both buses is wired the same. If you are starting with DCC, you would only need to run one bus and connect all track ovals to that.

    Hi Mark, I'm enjoying your videos I've just started on my n gauge layout pretty much the same table top layout as you and DC for now, just a question do you prefer single core wire, for your bus and droppers , , Thanks Gavin.

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  5 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Gavin I use single core for the bus and multi for droppers and other wiring. Thanks for watching.

    couldnt you just have one set of bus wires for whole layout. ie 1 neutral and 1 positive? and feed both inner and outer?

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  8 месяцев назад +3

      If you are running DCC then yes one set of buswire will do, but having two loops running on DC with seperate controllers two loops are required. This video explains what DCC is ruclips.net/video/8OyCkadB22s/видео.html If you need anymore info just ask. Thanks for watching.

    Like a lot of videos "for beginners", this one assumes existing knowledge. For example, no explanation is given of what a bus wire does or what its purpose is. Nor is there any demonstration of the installation of bus wires. We go straight from the droppers being in place to the bus wire having been installed (1.36).

      Thanks for the feedback. This is a series of videos if you watch from the beginning you will see how the droppers are fitted. ruclips.net/video/MCD9GZPoUEg/видео.htmlsi=Y5ywk3TvIIIouZQ9 It is always hard to know what to put into a video without making it hours long.
