I have been a surgical tech for two year. 1st year worked in the Main Operating room and Now I am a Scrub tech for labor and delivery. I am thinking real hard going in to PA school through west coast university but they offer a MPA ( Master of Physician assistant)

    Hey! So I am a undergrad psychology student as we speak and I saw that you graduated in psychology. How did you get your science classes out of the way?

    • @themexicanpa

      Hi amiga! My apologies for not responding sooner. I would highly advise making a list of the PA programs you are most interested in applying to. Make an excel document outling each programs prerequistes courses which is freely available on each PA programs website (there is a lot of overlap in regard to coursework but sometimes they differ slightly so its important to research each school individually) once you compile those requirements, take that info to an appointment wiht you college counselor and have them help you fulfill those requirements! Typically the science classess should be the same caliber of difficutly as the ones taken by premed students. Hope that helps!

    Hi Mario, how did you make this video? slideshow and camera? I would like to use this for my research presentations! Great video and love your mission!!!!!

      Hi @Daraniashley! I made this video using an iPhone 14 Pro and screen recording my MacBook Air simultaneously.
      The slides are from Canva.com.
      I synced and overlayed myself onto the screen recording using a free video editing software called “Davinci Resolve”
      I highly recommend searching “webcam circle Davinci tutoral” on RUclips for step by step instructions on how to do this!

    Can an ABA therapist or Bachelor's level mental health provider count as patient care hours?

    • @themexicanpa
      @themexicanpa  Год назад +2

      Yes, if you are providing direct hands on therapy to a patient. both of those roles would count towards PCE hours!

    Isn't it fact that a Bachelors Degree is needed to apply for a PA program?

  • @ascend4572

    Super high quality informative video! For PA school would we need both HCE and PCE or is PCE more important ? I'm planning on becoming a full time medical scribe after graduation as my primary source of PCE, so if I got that would I need to do any of the other 5 or is racking up all my PCE hours from medical scribe ok? As for HCE I was wondering would volunteering at a hospital on the side would be good since I'd be doing full time as a scribe? Also besides getting HCE and PCE is it also important to gain volunteer hours that are non PCE or HCE such as providing food for the homeless?

    • @themexicanpa
      @themexicanpa  9 месяцев назад +2

      You only need PCE, meet the minimum GPA and prerequisite courses, and a killer personal statement for PA school…everything else is extra garnish that will only help your application stand out.
      So no, HCE is not necessary. Volunteer work shows that you’re committed to working with the underserved and uninsured communities which is always a plus. The biggest thing is making sure that you have quality over quantity. PA schools will always prefer to see students who are dedicated to one or two organizations, and are also involved in leadership within that organization. volunteering at a hospital is OK, but a better volunteer experience is one that involves you being outside with underserved communities doing things like health fairs, and providing patient education.
      As for scribing as a way to get your PCE, I would say to double check with the PA programs that you are interested in applying to, to make sure that they count medical scribing as a valid job to get your PCE hours. The best PCE jobs are ones that give you more responsibility in terms of patient care decision making, and unfortunately, medical scribing is on the lower end of the responsibilities compared to being a CNA or EMT or medical assistant. Hope that helps! Saludos 👨🏻‍⚕️🤝🏼

    Hello! I see that you graduated from UCLA. I am a high school senior that has UCLA as a choice to attend and was wondering how you liked it there? Do you feel that it’s a good school to go as a pre-pa student? Was maintaining a high GPA while accumulating PCE feasible? Thank you!

    Yo! I'm a first year student, looking to get into either nursing or becoming a PA. Do you think a BSN (Nursing) degree will give enough expierience to go to PA school after? And do you do your hours while studying undergrad? I plan on specializing if I do nursing, which will take two years anyways, so thinking doing a PA program for those 2 years.

    • @themexicanpa
      @themexicanpa  Год назад +2

      You can totally do it bro! I would actually refer you to this channel: www.youtube.com/@kaynenbrown5102
      That channel features Kaynen, an ER nurse who went back to PA school and now works as an ER PA-C! And to answer your questions, the nursing experience is one of the highest quality patient care experiences you can have. As for hours, I started gaining my hours AFTER graduating from undergrad. I always recommend student prioritize academics over hours (you can always get more PCE hours, but your GPA is forever lol)

    • @mathewanaya2757
      @mathewanaya2757 Год назад +1

      @@themexicanpa Thanks for the advice man, I'll check the channel out for sure! I'm also a Mexican and first college student in my entire family.
      I've decided to go through with nursing, and work for 1-2 years and go to PA school after. You were right about academics and hours, I can barely juggle a regular non-health job with all these classes, so I'll prioritize academics first, and get hours hopefully with my nursing degree.
      I absolutely love both nursing and PA routes, so si Dios quiera, hago los dos!

    Hey I just graduated with my bachelors in health science and am looking at which PCE I should start with. I am leaning towards CNA but wonder if PA schools view those “less than” something like an EMT. Do PA schools view different PCE hours “better or worse”?

    Hola Que hay de “ Certified Hemodialysis Patient Care Technician “ ? Tengo 3 años trabajando con pacientes, prácticamente yo les doy el tratamiento y la enfermera solo supervisa o da órdenes .
    Y cuantas horas mínimo necesitamos para ser candidato competitivo?

    • @themexicanpa
      @themexicanpa  Год назад +1

      La mayoría de las escuelas requieren alrededor de 2000 horas, pero realmente depende del programa específico. Sugeriría hacer una lista de las escuelas que le interesan y realizar un seguimiento de los requisitos únicos de cada escuela. la mayoría de los estudiantes ingresan a la escuela PA con un promedio de 3000 horas. ¡Lo que equivale a aproximadamente 1.5 años de experiencia a tiempo completo! Saludos amiga

    Hi! Great video ! I am currently a pharmacy tech does this fall under any category?? I am also thinking of doing ABA therapy for my hours prior to PA school what are your thoughts ?

    • @themexicanpa
      @themexicanpa  Год назад

      Hi Daisy! thank you for your comment. I would definitely recommend reaching out to your top choice school and asking about this particular position. If you will be working directly with patients providing ABA therapy/assessments I would imagine it should count! As a prePA I always recommend trying to obtain the highest quality patient care experience possible - positions where you not only are interacting directly with patients but also practicing some level of autonomy (ie as an EMT I would often be the only provider on the ambulance and would get to make the medical decision to start a simple intervention like oxygen on a hypoxic patient.) The more autonomy the more high quality experience. Hope that provides you some direction!

    which healthcare experience for PA School are accepted, and how to prove experience

    • @themexicanpa
      @themexicanpa  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching and for your comment! All of the experiences listed in this video are accepted and typically programs will not require you to prove experience beyond you including your supervisor's contact information on CASPA. It is very much based on the "honor system" but each program reserves the right to contact previous employers to verify your hours.

    Does telehealth scribing still count as PCE?

    • @themexicanpa
      @themexicanpa  9 месяцев назад

      Typically no, the term direct patient care means hands on, in person, preferably paid experiences. But there are some schools that may count it…I would recommend you reach out directly to the PA programs you’re interested in! Saludos 👨🏻‍⚕️
