I am so glad I found this video you dont even understand ❤ since I was little i wanted to be an MD but after family circumstances and life visicituedes PA is what I really want to do. Ive come to this realization after submitting my med school apps, life is crazy🥴 Side note I really appreciate how he incorporated how as a Hispanic person our families play such an influential role in our lives.😮
Thought the doggie was fake at first! He's so cute. Anyways, YES to everything you said. I'm a new subscriber and appreciate your videos because I'm hispanic (half Mexican) and I really feel our experience is different than many. Family influence, first generation college grad, etc. I find your videos comforting, encouraging and helpful!
I had to give up my job in the lab at UCD due to conflicts with my school schedule cause I'm GOING to PA school!! I love how you broke everything down and really appreciate your insight. I do plan on applying to UCD's PA program after graduating Sac State, which hopefully won't be to long. I have one more semester at Sac City and time is flying so I just want to be as knowledgeable as possible. Thanks again! Subscribing right now!!
Im a medical laboratory scientist in healthcare and am beginning to take my prerequisites. I’m also mexican too and was surprised how only ~10% of PAs are hispanic. A PA program was started in 2021 at kstate, which is in my hometown, so i have an interest in that one, UMKC, and Wichita. The total tuition and fee cost (without transportation, dorm, parking, etc.) for kstate’s is listed at 56k for residents and 113k for non-residents. Seems like a good fit so far, although their first cohort hasn’t even graduated yet, so I’ll be interested to see how their accreditation and pass rates go.
That’s a steal if you can get that in-state tuition price!! How much would cost of living raise the total cost of attending the program? I recently found about a program in NYC that is like
Two PA schools here in Tennessee (University of Tennessee PA program in Memphis & Middle Tennessee State university’s PA Program) are around $60K for total costs I believe.
I just found a cheaper program in Colorado . Red rocks community college , the only one offering a master degree in U.S $75,000 ! So for those living near Colorado, check it up!
I am moving to San Diego this year. I already have more than 5,000 hours direct patient care experience working as a Certified Hemodialysis Patient Care Technician. I would love to get into a PA in California. In that way my family can come visit me ( they are from Baja California Sur) . How do you pay for your school and your rent/daily cost if we can’t really work full time during PA school? I have 50,000 dollars saved . Would it be enough to pay for living cost/utilities etc during the PA school? I am considering renting a room in someone’s house to save as much as I can. Thanks for your videos! They are all great !
Hi Veronica! Thank you for watching. I’ll do my best to answer your questions. 1. I pay for PA school primarily through my scholarship with the National Health Service Corps (non military) Program. They cover all of my tuition and provide a monthly living stipend of $1400. That stipend unfortunately is not enough so I take out about 1,000 more per month through federal loans! So short answer - scholarship, Loans, and my wife currently works as well which contributes to our household income. 2. I would say to live comfortably in California you’re looking at a monthly expense with rent, food, gas, utilities around 2-3k per month. My rent for a 850 sqft apartment 1 bed/1bath is around $1800. 50k I imagine would be enough for about the first year and a half. Obviously this is based on my own estimate and experience. San Diego cost of living is a bit more expensive than Sacramento. Regardless, PA programs should offer you financial aid assuming you complete your FAFSA application. Lastly, I highly highly encourage (if you plan to share housing) to make sure you have your OWN ROOM! PA school is stressful and having your own space, desk, area to decompress and just experience peace is crucial. From what I’ve witnessed and experienced, sharing housing with fellow students can be a gamble that may be good or bad. Really make sure you spend time communicating with your roommates to learn as much as possible about their cleaning habits, sleeping time, guests, eating habits, etc etc. Hope that helps and good luck with your PA journey amiga!
Curious to know if you went to a UC for undergrad and if you felt that it helped transition to UCD for your pa program, such as quarter system and similar resources? Thank you! 😊
I completed my bachelor's at UCLA in 2018! As for it being helpful in my transition, I would say it was minimal! My two cents on this is that no matter where you end up going for PA school, the transition will be rough and it will (hopefully) shape you into a better student and future provider. I would highly suggest watching my complete CASPA app video for the specifics of my application and experiences. ruclips.net/video/ayme3cGdmVM/видео.html Saludos amiga!!
