Soooo. I'm enrolled for the fall to take prerequisites for PA programs here in NY. I already have a non science bachelors. I'm also in a patient care tech traning program that ends around when classes start. My goal is to work part time and get PCE hours while I'm in school. It will take me 2 years to get through all my prerequisites. The whole journey will take me 5 years if everything goes as planned. The only thing is I'm 48 so I'll be 50 when/if I get accepted to PA school. Am I nuts to attempt this at my age? Have you met older students in PA programs? Thank You.
You are definitely NOT nuts! If it is your dream, go for it. I have definitely had older students in PA programs and they add a lot of value and experience.
Do you think it makes sense for people in their mid to late 40' s to apply. I won't be able to apply for about 3-4 years. If I do get in, I won't be done until I'm 49 - 50 years old. It just seems so far away.
Hi! I have a bachelor's in biotechnology and am willing to enter the PA program. However, PA programs require certain preclinical hours as their admission requirements. The point is I don't have any! Is there any chance I can enter into PA program?
I just finished medical assistant school and I want to apply to PA school but I have a BA in Communication can I still apply to PA school? what do you recommend?
Ive got 4000hrs of prehospital 911 patient care. A new paramedic career. And a military vet in medical job (public health/prev med) what else can i add other than just finishing my degree in biochem to strengthen my application. Sorry if im incoherent its the benadryl.
If you have any questions let me know :

You are not nuts because I am not nuts either. I am 57 and will apply for this next cycle. Go for it!!!
Thank you for sharing your concern as this is encouraging to read. I am in my 40's and we have similar story's regarding school and work.
How can you find a PA program that fits your current profile?

I know, but think about it..even if you graduate when youre 50, you can still practice for many years!!

There is a limited number of schools that dont require patient care hours but you could try to apply to those schools.
How does it work if I want to apply in May, but I’ll need to take my last microbiology in the summer? Should I wait to apply until later then?
Check if the programs will allow you to apply with it in progress. Most allow one.
Do you help with MMI mock interviews?
Am I able to request my official college transcripts now?
I would wait until the new cycle opens
@@theposhpa Unfortunately I requested them and received them. So hopefully they transfer over. Thank you!
@@briang1310 They should! If you did it before the cycle closed you should be fine.
Do you need to have a bachelor degree to be considered for PA school first or if you are a graduate nurse can you still apply please?
Yes you need a bachelors, but if you are a graduate nurse you would already have one correct?
Yes I have my BSN in nursing (graduated)
Hi Michele
I have done my bachelor in healthcare leadership. Will that be considered for PA school bachelor degree prerequisite ?

It’s okay! You just need to be sure you have the prerequisites for PA programs
This maybe a little misleading but not everyone will get in on their first try.. the number of seats vs applicants 🤔🤔🤔.. and that's ok..
You are correct. Not everyone gets in the first time and its totally okay!
