    Wasting materials is not a waste if you are serious about learning paint. It's the cost of your education. Whole lot cheaper than college. I learned the hard way. Asked a million questions. Read books. Watched videos. And kept at it every single day until I got my name out there enough to ditch my factory job. Bought guns I didn't need. Figured out what works best for me. What materials and prep work best for me. Everybody has a way. Took me a few years to find my way. Now I pretty much stick to my own methods, but still keep an open eye and ear for how others do the job.

    Finally a painter that admits they messed up and THEN tells you how to fix the issues you will likely have, most will lie and brag they dont get runs but they cut and buff ragged farm trucks to make it shine lol. Thanks for the straight up video man, greatly appreciated these days. Those “wont see except certain angle” runs mean nothing anyway on a tow truck especially after a couple snow storms 😂, im going to paint my car outside the shop and wont give two shits what it looks like as long as its color isnt surface rust from oem 1984 paint wearing off, me not caring and being my car is usually a recipe for a perfect outcome lol

    • @ThePaintPaperHustle
      @ThePaintPaperHustle  Год назад +2

      Check with the manufacturer of the product you’re using for what they recommend. Personally I see no point in putting clear over single stage. If you’re going to shoot clear why not just go base coat clear coat.

      @@ThePaintPaperHustle I often paint small parts in my basement and i prefer not to spray death coat paint in the house. My reasoning for shooting clear over ss base coat is because clear is less porous than pigmented paint and will reflect more light when its cut and polished to a mirror finish. I use all lacquer based products and would consider a 2 part automotive paint, but the manufacturers dont recommend it.

      ive sprayed thousands of gallons of imron and nason single stage and always have done 1 medium then 2 wet coats 10 minute flash time. and if you want a high gloss finish you wetsand and put a heavy top coat on top of that after a couple days drying.

  • @stevenwhitaker4032

    I strongly suggest that when spraying metallics use basecoat not single stage. Basecoats go on so much easier, they dry much smoother the metallics don't mottle or streak when using the proper reducer and they dry really fast and be clearcoated after about 30 minutes...somuch easier

      Can add activated clear to your last cups of single stage as well . Some painters say spraying clear over ss is a waste of time. Others swear by it. I like to think clear over ss would provide some extra uv protection and maybe help with color fade. Guess I will know in 15 years on some of these jobs if I was right or wrong😂

    • @ThePaintPaperHustle

      @ThePaintPaperHustle  10 месяцев назад +1

      Ok first thank you and welcome to the family. I have lots of other videos on paint also to help you. Single stage paint doesn’t need a clear coat. I’d never go single stage then clear if I was in charge. This job the customer wanted the clear added to the single stage so I did as asked. I told him that base coat clear coat would of been a better choice. I feel like orange peel has a lot to do with the product. I never change my painting techniques and with product change my orange peel changes. PSI can effect it also if it’s to low. Just paint some easy things that don’t matter to much and learn what works best with your gun and product. Gun also can effect orange peel.

      Single stage is a lot more durable than your average base/clear 2 stage. Just by spraying clear over the single stage you now have a more durable paint and the protection and high gloss of the clear coat. Basic single stage needs to be buffed twice a year to keep it shining and protected so by adding clear coat to it is not that much of a step since you are already there anyways.

    This is nothing new, we did this in the 80’s when the government put restrictions on the paint companies to rework their products because they were supposedly harming the ozone layers.
    Then after reworking the paint formulas what happened was the paint acrylic enamel was dyeing and going flat within 3 months, especially metallic colors. So we would lay down 3 coats of color and either apply a 4 coat of 50/50. 50% color mixed with 50% clear, or lay down 3 coats of color and the 4th was all clear.
    This was how we combated the paint from dyeing. Then around the 90’s is when base coat clear coat came out.

    I personally, don’t like Single Stage, and Clear Coat over it. If is Single stage Metallic, you need to have a Different technique as for base coat. In the Centari era of the 70’ we use all the slower set as possible a 1.2 gun nozzle and needle a pint cup on a siphon spray gun. Because Gravity doesn’t exists. Plus we always have a quart of Binder with dryer to mix the last coat, a Very slow set coat with slow reducer and centari retarder and that smog coat leave the finish of The urethane of today.
