Those movie cars make for good conversations u know when u go from listening to old timers to become one ..lol one of those back in my day story's I think it's pretty cool
Man thats a good tip about that information sheet/instructions. Lot of good little tips. I painted a few projects and basically did what parts guy and few buddies that had done it aswell said. U R Doing a great job with the videos. Thanks
I have used acrylic enamel , no hardener, and lacquer thinner to match the fade/lack of shine , on cheap used car work. Local newspaper place also gives me stacks of old papers for cheap tape up.
I got the same car but mine is lowered and it still has the 2.7 m20 engine still .I want to paint it or get it painted but it has that plastic dip on it but a great body , Im here is asheville nc i would like to get a price estimate
Dude... 15 per quart is 45 for three quarts so you could have bought more than 3 gallons for 187 dollah. I'm glad you are my painter and not my accountant.
Wet sand and buff yes. This is a cheap single stage though so it may not work that great. A nicer single stage may buff out better. How ever if you’re willing to wet sand and and buff then I highly recommend going with base coat clear coat instead
I know you're not worried about the cut and buff on a movie car but you mentioned it would shine if you did. I always thought that it was frowned upon doing that with single stage cause of the paint being unprotected and If you burn through it's much harder to blend properly. 🤷
Ok so ima work your brain… what would you cut through in single stage? Unless you mean all they way to the old paint and if so yes that’s bad. Single stage is all the same all the way through the paint layers so it’s not like clear where you cut through to base coat. Most people don’t wet sand single stage bc they used it to be cheap. This product just mentioned polishing it though not wet sanding so I really don’t know what results you’d get.
@@ThePaintPaperHustle the way you just broke it down makes perfect sense and with the right coverage it would be unlikely to burn through on single stage. Just an older painter that I know said that's why he never touched single stage after he would spray it. Single stage seems pretty legit if you want a cheaper option, especially if you can polish and throw a wax/protectant on top afterward.
As far as painting, insurance work should get you at least $100/hr on the labor side plus parts mark up and paint supplies payments. That should net you at least $125/hr. In my area classic car restoration pays good. Minimum $100/hr plus materials. Overall paint jobs on classic cars start at $10k. That's just a sand, prime, and bondo repair spots and paint. Those jobs will net you at least $150+/hr.
Insurance work here pays around $65 an hour. Not sure where you’re at. It was $55 but went up alittle while ago to $65 an hour. Randy and I was just talking about this recently. And again from first hand experience even $150 an hour insurance work is wayyyy more work than this stuff
@@ThePaintPaperHustle You are missing the point. You were asking for jobs that pay $175/hr or close to it. I don't think you understand flat rate. At $65/hr in your area you should make a minimum of $130/hr net if you know what you are doing. A skilled technician should at a minimum half the book time. Plus you get your parts mark up which is at least 25% and you get $ for your paint supplies. That should net you near or more than that $175/hr. When the labor rate in my area was $48/hr I still made at least $180/hr on an insurance job if I did the job myself. If I paid some one to do it I made at least $120/hr. Granted you may have to do a little more work but I doubt you are painting a movie car every day!
I 100% get your point. But the whole thing here is how easy the $170 an hour is made. If you follow the channel you know I quit insurance work with also closing to the public almost 100% to get rid of having to deal with day to day customers and being able to do lower quality work with less stress on our dealership vehicles. I was confused with other statement and thought you meant that’s what they were paying per hour on invoice and not what you walk away with so sorry about that confusion. There’s lots of ways to make same or more per hour but I know of none that you can with such little careless effort. You are correct we don’t do one a day so we have to just enjoy them when we do get them. Before I started RUclips we rolled out a good handful but this years been slow for movie painting. My goal in life is to of course make as much as possible but to do it with as little stress as possible. This is why we only work 35hour work weeks and also close Fridays at 11 to enjoy life more. We all chasing the dollar but I want to enjoy doing it and not sale my time and joy for that dollar. Hope no offense was taken and I think I just simply misunderstood your figures.
@@ThePaintPaperHustle I hear you on dealing with customers. I do very little insurance work.(hate dealing with the insurance company). I only do classic cars ( which most shops in my area won't touch). At $100/hr rate I make after I pay a top notch technician $60/hr for doing nothing and if I actually work I make $160/hr and I usually just paint (which is the easy work). We too only work a 25-30hr week.

How did you get orange peel using the supernova gun? Was it flash times between coats? Or is it the materials?
Just cheap material. Gun doesn’t make or prevent orange peel.

Lol yea math isn’t my strong point by any means. I never do numbers that matter in my head always on the phone to be safe
If you were to try and get the orange peel out, how would you go about it? Just wet sand and polish? Or respray?
Wet sand and buff yes. This is a cheap single stage though so it may not work that great. A nicer single stage may buff out better. How ever if you’re willing to wet sand and and buff then I highly recommend going with base coat clear coat instead

Money is in mechanical repairs. If you bill flat rate and you are good you will make a minimum $200/hr, plus a minimum of 25% markup on parts and
Correct but from experience mechanical work takes alittle more effort lol
@@ThePaintPaperHustle and way more busted knuckles
depending on lumber and what im milling i have come close to that. more for goverment work
Cool deal
NC & GA are getting more & more filming jobs
That’s awesome
dude with single stage can i base and then wait 2 or 3 days later and apply the final coat of clear/ color mix
You can lay the single stage down and then wait two or three days re-scuff and then put clearcoat over top of that if you want to
Man, for what the cost of materials are the paint turned out great ‼️
Yea it was definitely decent

There is nothing cheap about single stage paint...
This single stage is cheap. I’m pretty sure in one of these videos I have showed the price. It’s like $75 a gallon
Wow the paint store there is expensive here in Miami is a lot cheaper
Awesome
you left a dent in passenger door
lol of course. Dents don’t matter in this kinda work
