As talented as you are with cars and trucks, I think your biggest talent is being an incredible dad. Watching you do things with your son, and for him, gives this old man a major case of the warm and fuzzies. You are truly blessed and a blessing to your family.
im 67 years old been spraying my whole life from gel coat to driveway, paint jobs to spraying giant garbage bins in awesome booth i watch other guys spray makes me nervce when i watch you i can see you got it all under control not a million dollar paint job but not a million dollar car either its all good great video keep them coming
Love a father / son project … he will never forget what you two done together ! Cheapest and most expensive thing you can give your children is your time
I'm sure your son has a lot of good memories with you already. I know you two painting his first ride is one that he will always smile about, especially when he becomes an old man!
I always knock a few holes in the rim of the can so it drains back inside . In the little valley where the lid locks in use a nail or a small screwdriver, it helps especially when putting the lid back on, it won't squirt across the room.
for a quick flick a lick-and-a-promise, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that paint job, I think it very presentable and perfect for guy's on a tight budget. Thanks man, you gave me lots of good ideas.
Hector, Painter my whole life. I found when using a HVLP the position of the Air nozzle ports is important. I found if looking at the gun from front the 2 o'clock to 8 o'clock air nozzle position works the best. you're running yours at 3 and 9 .tends to tiger striped at that position. Love your channel. Keep showing real Man Techniques. Anyone can do what Robby Layton Does. God Bless
My favorite part is the love he is showing it at the end. First car love for sure. My first car needed a quick and dirty paint job, but I loved that car. Two-tone from oxidation and dents in the roof from not enough clearance with a luggage carrier on.
Best mixing ratio looks like glass 3 parts paint 1 part xylene 1oz penetrol 1 part clear coat oil base 1/2 oz hardener spray at 45 to 55 psi 3 turns out for fluid control wide-open fan and 80 percent overlap. People think it's a 2 stage and are blown away when they find out it's Rust-Oleum. Good job
Harbor freight has priced themselves out of the game for me I the last several years. About the time they did away with the mailers and coupons. I only shop there for equipment type stuff anymore. Hoists, engine stands, stuff like that. Theres several companies out there selling similar, if not the same items. Some of us are to blame (the guys using them for a loan a tool place) but their warranty has pretty much disappeared recently. The automotive "specialty" tools have a 90 day warranty now and require a receipt. The only thing with a lifetime warranty now is basic hand tools. If you enjoy shopping at tsc, youll love rural king.
Just sub. I like low budget, real people. Not TV shows with big budgets. To many people think it's all or nothing. And never have the money to get it done.
I have a 58 Baja Bug. I painted it in 2008 in my driveway under a 10 x 20 tarp canopy with Home Depot painters drop cloth plastic film clamped on the sides. Hosed down the concrete before spraying. All the roll cage and bumpers is painted Rustoleum Sail Blue out of 1 quart cans from the local True Value. Thinned with Klean Strip mineral spirits. It was the real deal then. What they sell now just aint the same no matter WHICH "paint thinner" you get. Acetone seems to still be acetone. I thinned 1:1. No hardener. Sprayed with an HF old school style gun like an old Binks. Worked great. Sprayed sweet. Flowed very nice. Hardened up in a day. Still in good shape now 16 years later. Could use a buff and wax on the bumpers. But the cage is still shiny. Wish I had used Rustoleum on the bodywork insteas of machinery single stage. That has a couple of 1" blisters on the roof. So the body is about due for repaint. I plan for that to be Rustoleum Smoke Gray to go with the Sail Blue.
I remember my first car, a 1972 Ford Pinto. I bought it for 75.00 drove it home and stuffed a 351 Cleveland in it, with a Mustang 9 inch rear member 4.11 Detroit locker. I had it for 3 years until I got hit by a drunk driver. It was totaled... the only reason I didn't get hurt was the 12 point roll cage protecting me. It was baby powder blue.
Thank you for a great tutorial on how to do a genuinely cheap paint job that looks better than it should. I won't ever do that myself, but I think you've taught me enough in just this one video that I would be willing to dive in if I had a car that needed cheap paint on it.
I did this to a beat Honda Civic I had about 10yrs ago. It was supposed to be a joke, I couldn't believe how good it came out for painting it in the driveway without a hardener.
Just what I needed. I've always wondered about the Rustoleum. We used to paint the sheet rock in the shop with it so one could throw a tool on the bench without worrying about denting the wall. I've been thinking about using it to paint my motorcycle. Heck, now I'm thinking about painting my truck.
Hey buddy a little trick I learned on pouring gallon cans of paint or other things is take some good tape and start putting it around the edges of the gallon paint can on top with the lid off!! Start at the outer edges and work your way towards the middle ripping pieces off as you go!!! You can make like a circle in the middle with a point on one side of the circle in the middle!! Then on the point side you can take some pieces of the tape and work it out wards or upwards off of the flat part of the tape!! Kinda making a pour spout like a measuring cup!!! I have found by just spending about 5 minutes or less it has definitely helped me from not making a mess and from products from running down the side of the can!!! I’m not sure if you have seen this nice little trick but it definitely works well and keeps things much cleaner!!! Definitely give it a try!!!
When you add hardener to rustoleum it makes it a 2k product ! I would like to experiment adding some oil based clear to the last coat of paint and see how it shines.
Looks 100% better ! Im 66 yesterday And all ive painted was the inside of the bed & 4 wheels of my old 77 gmc pickup. My buddy helped me prep & i rattle canned it with hammeright brown paint alot of cans & match the color good. It was a work truck . I did it outside. That was in the 90s. Sold it 2012 got my 2005 fard ranger xlt. Saw my old truck in the junk yard dude got drunk hit a tree head on no insurance.
My sons are all grown these days. One already in his early 50’s. Be there for them like you are doing, and they’ll be there for you when you are no longer able. La familia lo es todo.
For a quick and dirty paint job not bad at all. Don't care for red myself but it's not my Jeep either so you guys do what you want. As long as you and your son are happy that's what counts. Also I do like the black on the lower section of the Jeep .
Man, thank you Brother. I watched video while getting rolling this morning. Thought about my pops who passed couple years back the whole time. Nothing beats a great dad at work, Godspeed Sir.
Great job brother, I've got an old 1990 S10 4x4 that I really need to paint. If I had a place to do it myself, I'd do it just like you did this one. Watching you makes me believe that I could do it. Thanks for the encouragement. God bless!
Looks good. Don't have spend big money on paint for a driver as long as it looks good. Sweat equity by Tyler & his friend sanding it down makes it all worth it. Thanks for sharing.
I see why Rory and the Crew mesh so well with You and the Crew…good salt…sharers of knowledge not keepers..and that means giving of your time…the one thing you can not control or get back. 👊🇺🇸👊
The HVLP has a meaning...Hi Volume Paint at Low Pressure..most of your paint is in the air...as you're painting... Turn the pressure down, save on materials with Better coverage.
Westside Racing's Bondo Brothers Channel we dig your style Thank you for the info on the Buget paint I will have to try it How is the UV protection in the paint how long does it last in the sun keep up the great work
I have trucks I've painted 3 or 4 years ago, and they still look pretty good. But even high dollar paint will fade in the sun. It would probably do even better if you took care of it and waxed it with UV protection in it.
Thanks Hector. I think that you explain everything just fine brother. Now the unfortunate thing is that up here in Canada, we don't have Tractor Supply, and I have never heard of Magic brand. I work in a welding shop and we do a lot of painting, and our go to paint is usually Rustoleum
The jeep is definitely like amazing for sure!!! Know I can’t wait to see the new wheels and tires and lift all setup and what it will look like all finished up!!! The wheels and tires will definitely change it even more!!!
Awesome job Hector!! It's not just about the paint job. You can see the love and care that went into something for your son. The pride you have for him when you tell he passed his driver's test just shines. Good family and friends always helping each other, that's the reason I love this channel. I can't wait to see you back on the Ford. Waiting on the next one. Keep on howling!!
I've used that Rustoleum and Tractor supply hardner probably 20 times on projects over the last 15 years. If you regulate your air to about 40-45 psi it atomizes so much better. Higher Air pressure has a tendency to create streaks and dry spots. High volume and low pressure works so much better than High pressure and high volume. Just a tip but you do you however you do you. But it's never a bad idea to take a tip or 2 and see how they pan out.
Absolutely, I have tried it many different ways. I'm never done experimenting, but so far, it's working for me with this gun and paint setup. Thanks for watching and commenting
Yes, I have done that before. Now I have the painters soaked rags come in a little bucket, and they work great. Takes everything off with ease, and it doesn't bother my skin.
Good job my brother. My wife had one exactly like that. Until our son son got T-Bone at the intersection that was the end of that ride. Good job man..🤟🏽🤙🏽👍🏼🖖🏽👏🏽😊😎🙋🏽♂️🙏🏽
just wanted to say that I have enjoyed whaching you channel. I used to paint cars for fun but haven't in along time. I have a few trucks that need painting and got a shock when I checked the price of automotive paint. I wanted to tell you that you can buy single stage paint off e bay for 100 bucks complete with hardener and reducer
If you plan on using a whole gallon that may work unless it kicks off too soon! IDK hot hot that mix is but if it kicks off in the gun you will wish it was different! Love your content.
Nice Job ! One thing I learned is you have to be realistic in your expectations Its a daily It sits outside It’s got little dings here and there But it shines
Dang Hector!!a couple bumper ends n maybe hit the window trims with the detail brush n thats a legit mint one owner low miles....lol... awesome job brother ❤️🇺🇸
I need a Howling Wolf paint job….. I have a daily driver Square Body just needs to be freshened up. Rock chips and daily scratches. Don’t need a show car paint job. Jeep turned out awesome. 👍 great job Hector!
I wish my dad was like you Hector! $120 wasn’t the investment. It was your time and effort, Great job!
I appreciate that!
As talented as you are with cars and trucks, I think your biggest talent is being an incredible dad. Watching you do things with your son, and for him, gives this old man a major case of the warm and fuzzies. You are truly blessed and a blessing to your family.

Thanks for sharing. That means a lot to me.
Put a piece of masking tape on the inside lip of the paint tin, then poor it your make less mess.😊
Nice job, and the bonnet looks fine 😊
God! That does look good!..❤
Sorry don't understand spraying different media is so different, painting a top dollar car is by far on a different level.😀😀
Love a father / son project … he will never forget what you two done together ! Cheapest and most expensive thing you can give your children is your time
I agree 👍
I'm sure your son has a lot of good memories with you already. I know you two painting his first ride is one that he will always smile about, especially when he becomes an old man!

Yeah but this batch has the catlyst hardner so no point in sealing it back up
Awesome job on the Cherokee your son's got to be very proud to have a dad like you
for a quick flick a lick-and-a-promise, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that paint job, I think it very presentable and perfect for guy's on a tight budget. Thanks man, you gave me lots of good ideas.

I have used that trick before an old painter I knew showed me it, and it worked awesome. I will do it when I'm struggling with tiger strips.
Fantastic tip man!
That XJ is a great first car for your kid man. Reliable, safe(for not being a modern vehicle), and super fun to drive!
My favorite part is the love he is showing it at the end. First car love for sure. My first car needed a quick and dirty paint job, but I loved that car. Two-tone from oxidation and dents in the roof from not enough clearance with a luggage carrier on.

Yes, sir. Came out nice for a first time driver.😎 One thing, he can't hide in town😅
😁
Who loves tractor supply...
HOBBO FREIGHT & TRACTOR SUPPLY ARE A MANS TOY STORE...!!!!
🤣 hobbo frieght is my favorite place.

16!!! Great time for getting wheels on the road… and off the beaten path as well. Perfect ride for a fisherman.
You do a better job at explaining things than you think you do. 🙂
Thank you.
So nice of you
Just sub. I like low budget, real people. Not TV shows with big budgets. To many people think it's all or nothing. And never have the money to get it done.
Hector, thanks for the mixing instructions. You do good content 👌
Dynamite tips like experiment on an old hood or fender is so valuable.

I've always had the opinion that if I sanded the paint off once I can sand the paint off again.

My favorite red that Jeep had was the Chili Pepper Red they had on the Wranglers.
Nice to see another square body saved. This is one of the best Rustoleum jobs on the RUclipss.
Thank you!
The best home grown paint tutorial I’ve ever seen.
You did a GREAT job explaining every step.
Bravo!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow, thank you!
This is the American way. Figure it out and do it yourself. gain skills and save money. Love the video .
I did this to a beat Honda Civic I had about 10yrs ago. It was supposed to be a joke, I couldn't believe how good it came out for painting it in the driveway without a hardener.
That Tractor Supply paint sticks to just about anything !
It honestly does. Works pretty good.

Thank you so much. It's time to get off the couch and go paint my jeep.
Love your show!!!
Dang it looks great in the daylight
Real man’s paint job right there.👍
Looks really good keep it up
When you add hardener to rustoleum it makes it a 2k product ! I would like to experiment adding some oil based clear to the last coat of paint and see how it shines.
I also have been tempted to do that very same thing.
Second! Came for Ol Blu’s paint job. Love your content !
Awesome! Thank you!
Great job hector your son will be so proud to drive it and it looks great.

Can't wait to see Tyler mobbing around town in it.
Man, thank you Brother. I watched video while getting rolling this morning. Thought about my pops who passed couple years back the whole time. Nothing beats a great dad at work, Godspeed Sir.
I'm sorry to hear that. Thank you for sharing this. It made me feel good. I appreciate it
That's looking great, I know how hard it is to clear the dust out of a home shop before you paint, well done Sir, you should be proud!
great video as always well done
Great job brother, I've got an old 1990 S10 4x4 that I really need to paint. If I had a place to do it myself, I'd do it just like you did this one. Watching you makes me believe that I could do it. Thanks for the encouragement. God bless!

Congrats on the passing of the driver's test. I passed myself 2 years ago on my 31st birthday

I saw you on Trail Mater and I’m glad I did. This is the best explanation of how I can paint something.
Awesome, thank you!
The HVLP has a meaning...Hi Volume Paint at Low Pressure..most of your paint is in the air...as you're painting... Turn the pressure down, save on materials with Better coverage.
Exteriour Household Enamel works well with the Hardner aswell, and you get a zillion Colours to choose from.

I love watching you do your thing. You will be able to see that coming down the road

Made for an awesome first car, one I would have been proud to drive around!
Same here!
You did a great job explaining the process...thanks. came out beautiful
Thanks fof showing how you mix and what you put in the paint. I appreciate you man
I used to wet the floor to keep the dust out of the paint, also cracked the door for some ventilation. Great job tho ! Thanks for all the tips !
Yes, we do the same, but it was freezing outside that day. I was really trying to keep the temperature up.
Awesome job Hector!! It's not just about the paint job. You can see the love and care that went into something for your son. The pride you have for him when you tell he passed his driver's test just shines. Good family and friends always helping each other, that's the reason I love this channel. Yes, I have done that before. Now I have the painters soaked rags come in a little bucket, and they work great. Takes everything off with ease, and it doesn't bother my skin.
Man that look really good, thanks for all the info on mixing the paint.
Veeeeery well done Hector. Proud of you dude...
Thank you
Good job my brother.
My wife had one exactly like that. Until our son son got T-Bone at the intersection that was the end of that ride.
Good job man..🤟🏽🤙🏽👍🏼🖖🏽👏🏽😊😎🙋🏽♂️🙏🏽

Yes! Thank you!
Nice Job !
One thing I learned is you have to be realistic in your expectations
Its a daily
It sits outside
It’s got little dings here and there
But it shines
Hell yeah! Rattle can the wipers and the window frames and you got a sharp rig to match that license for the first day of school.
I know how I'm going to paint my atv trailer now. Thanks for sharing knowledge.
Congrats on passing the driver's test sweet freedom.
Dang Hector!!a couple bumper ends n maybe hit the window trims with the detail brush n thats a legit mint one owner low miles....lol... awesome job brother ❤️🇺🇸
😂👍
Mix and go,
Wolf style.
Love it❤🎉
With the fender well mods and paint makes it pop for a working man’s budget. Thanks for the down and dirty how to on a budget.
I need to spray paint my black farm flatbed trailers thanks
Beautiful job.
Make sure you want to paint mine.
Love your content Hector!
Hey Brother That Looks Amazing Great Job 👏 ❤✌️☮️💪🏻
turned out awesome great job
Looks great! With a good quality 2k clearcoat you can make that last quite a while and it can be polished.
Definitely!
I need a Howling Wolf paint job….. I have a daily driver Square Body just needs to be freshened up. Rock chips and daily scratches. Don’t need a show car paint job. Jeep turned out awesome. 👍 great job Hector!
I have used this method on many square body trucks. Works great
Congratulations boy
Great Job Hector. Looks Awesome.
