This is why I love watching BJ. I have a soft spot for the old cheap bangers. With you and Matt having kids at or close to driving age. I'd love to see a "bolt on only" build, that maybe us mere mortals with no fab skills and limited budget could do at home. Keep up the good work from Australia!!!
Yes I have painted my daily driver with a roller, a 16 year old toyota. My friends laughed for a while cause I didn't spend like 3 to 4 grand to paint it, but I got the job done, the car looked decent and it held up ok for about 2 years now. It was worth it given the fact that I spend under 100 $ for that paintjob. Painting the metal of a car is not such a big deal if you don't want showroom perfection, it's when you have rust when the problems appear and it becomes harder to DIY.
Colt y’all rock. This is just one of the reasons I like watching the vids you put out. You show what can be done with a little time and effort. Keep it up sir.
Looks great! I painted a 62 Scout with a roller. I used oil based Rust-Oleum brown, it looked like a new car compared to the ugly green and silver and black... The best thing after a day of rubbing trees and rocks I would just dust it off, open a quart of paint and hit it with a brush. New again for the drive to work.
My dad has roller painted his last 3 work trucks, battleship gray. They all looked great from afar(and actually not bad up close). Very durable, EASY to touch up and affordable.
A cool paint trick we use in our shop is we use 1/4" soft rope around the window weather stripping and it allows us to paint around the weather stripping and it comes out super clean. Great video by the way
That looks great! I have not ever painted a vehicle with a brush or roller, but my wife's brothers and sisters were nice enough to paint their dad's van with brushes and house paint when they were little! It didn't turn out near as good as yours, but their hearts were in the right place. Needless to say, he was definitely surprised!
Colt, you will never be lost with that paint job! Rat's Nest can be spotted from space, now! I have actually rolled paint on a car! It's been 15-ish years, back when the interwebs was abuzz with the roll on Rustoleum paint job. I helped a buddy paint his tubbed Gremlin with rollers. It came out pretty good, though he caved and sprayed the final coat.
I've roll pained two vehicles , here is what I've learned. 1st was with tractor paint (similar colour to this jeep - Deutz green). It went on quite thin and was over a darker coulour. Took 3 coats to make it a solid colour, sanding between each coat. From a few feet you couldn't tell it was rolled on. It did fade after a few years, but rubbing compound by hand and 2 days effort (by hand) mad it look good again. 2nd one military vehicle paint. 1 and done,no 2nd coat needed. But looks textured, not as obvious as the bedliner, but form 3m (10ft) you can tell its not a spray paint job. I sprayed one with this type of paint 15 years ago, and it still looks the same as a week after I painted it - dull but ok.
Colt, after your interesting time doing gears with Hillbilly...you are my hero! Straight forward in explaining and great sense of humor. You earned my subscription!!! You have a fan here!
I rollered my box truck. I thought it was going to look terrible while it was dyring. But once it cured it was beautiful, and it has been like three years now it still looks great.
Decades ago I repainted my 73 K30 work truck with Rust-Oleum , thinned slightly with an expensive brush, then leveled it up with spray bombs in the same color. Came out rather nicely, lol. Great DIY for most, have thought about those liner paints, certainly will wear well. & prep is the difference in quality work. Thanx !
Did this to my YJ with Monstaliner. Looks good and holds up pretty well. Tends to chip pretty easily as it ages but they sell touch up kits relatively cheap.
I love me some Colt & Matt! Y'all really stand out amongst all offroad channels. I have several I absolutely LOVE and Bleepin Jeep is 2nd to NONE! Can't wait to wheel with y'all!
Greetings from the land of ice and snow (middle of Alaska) 😎☕️🥶 Yes, I have done roll-on bed liner to paint my 79 K5 Blazer. Main body black, sanded the fiberglass topper, painted the bed liner on it and rattle canned it green. I learned all body work from RUclips. It came out AWESOME!
I have a TJ and I just painted my hard top with black raptor liner and in a few weeks I plan on painting the entire jeep yellow raptor liner. I'm spraying mine out in the yard lol. But I think it'll turn out just fine. It just makes more sense to use that for an offroad Jeep. Looks awesome too! Urs turned out great!
A cool trick with hardener is always use what the manufacturer says no matter the temp outside so at a molecular level it is correct and doesn't do weird stuff months down the road. If it's like 110 or so outside you can put the hardener in the fridge or freezer because if it thinks it's 30 degrees outside it will harden slower than if it thinks it's 110
Just out of High-school I had Chevy panel van that I turned into a camper inside. I used to to hunt out of so I and a friend raddle can painted it camo that would make a army truck envious, some years later a cousin died and I had to make a trip south to the funeral. Those family members that were riding along with me were not impressed by having to go to a funeral in Camo hunting truck. After taking some heat from my Mother I went to Lowe's and got all the stuff needed to roller paint the van. Egg shell exterior latex looked great and it lasted for several years.
I used a bedliner to paint the lower part of my built Cherokee XJ back 15 or so years ago, it worked perfectly & protected the rig from all types of abrasions. The thing I really liked about it is being slightly textured any damage or future modification is easily repairable.
Looks great! Years ago, I used Rhino Lining on the lower, inside of my horse trailer. Sold the trailer 15 years ago, and as far as I know, it's still holding up.
This video came out at a perfect time for me. I've watched a Bleepin Jeep video for every step on my XJ that I can't figure out myself. Colt and Matt are a perfect team. Keep Bleepin and Jeepin boys! 👍👍
I painted the hood of my 1969 IHC Scout with semi gloss black bed liner and a roller. I used Monstaliner and it turned out perfect, just the way I wanted. I plan on doing my Cherokee with OD green eventually. Great job!!
A friend of mine once painted a Nissan with black rustoleum. He used a foam roller and foam brushes. He did it outside on a calm day. It came out really good.
Thanks. That gave me a idea to do on my Durango when get the body work done. Won't have to worry about the door dings and shopping cart scratches on the paint. Ty. Looks damn good.
I was gonna do this to my 88 S10 4x4 back in 2006. ❤ Back in the 90s, I seen a Mustang that was painted entirely with rattle cans from a dollar store. Looked pretty good until you got real close. 😂 But he was happy with it.
That reminds me of painting my motorcycle tank when I worked in a motorcycle shop. My mechanic peers called it a half-mile tank. I said no, it isn't for a half-mile race bike, it is for my trials competition bike. They said I was confused, that the paint job looked good from half-mile away. ;) I have a 99 XJ too, and have wanted to make the bottom half red. This may be the way to do it. Thanks, it does help make it seem possible only my garage is full of machinist tools, so it will be outside this summer. It is a good thing you are big like a Clydesdale. Hoods are hard. Gas door should be green... Nice drone footage!
On my first XJ i did a roller paint job on my hood, and the bottom half of the Jeep below the accent line. Went on no issue, and held up as long as i owned the thing
I've done monstaliner on a tj. I sprayed it but it's mainly rolled. They have a lot of colors and its more of orange peel texture instead of sand paper. It cleans easier because it doesn't trap dirt in the pores.
Glad to see your work on Rat's Nest, it came out really good!!! As a JK owner, I can't wait to see what you do with the JK (in 2024), but I will wait...😅🤙🏻
Hey Colt, I have a '95 XJ that I'm building & after watching this it didn't take long for me to figure-out how to paint my rig! Thanks for the info/help!!! Oh I do have extra part's.
I painted my truck with Raptor coat (same thing only name brand as you used). My kit came with air gun. I showed process on my channel. Was my first time and just STUPIDLY easy to do. Since then i have done it a few times for friends and got even better at it and learned a lot of secrets about it. Was worth the 350 buck investment with 3 quarts left over incase i smash a fender or something.
Did our XJ in white bedliner via roller in 2020. came out great. Using Raptor; You can add about 10% reducer to help it self-level much more than that did. We put on two coats with no tint then 3 coats with white tint.
HAHA! Nice! I did a roll on bed liner on a blazer once. It turned out pretty decent. One tip I would suggest, depending on how you want the texture to be, use a foam roller so you don't have such a textured layer. It will go on smooth and then you typically don't have to worry about pieces coming off into the paint either.
I once painted my old Ford Explorer Sport with International Red tractor paint in my driveway using a harbor freight paint sprayer and a borrowed air compresor.
I've done several rolled paint jobs on rusty old looking vehicles. I use implement paint from a farm store. Always looked better and that stuff is tough and cheap, probably not raptor tough but tough, many color options.
At my old job we rolled painted our small box truck's box black. With standard outdoor paint..... 10 year later the vinyl was pealing off and the paint looked fine.
Looks awesome! Great job on the prep. That’s really key and something that even though I spent a lot of time on myself, I wish I had spent even more time. Also for sure the layers looked like it helped a lot. Another thing I wish I had done more of on my rig haha.
Your Jeep looks radio active! Great idea, I might have to roll my truck! Thanks for making a tedious job look fun. You are a super funny guy! Thanks for being yourself! It was great to meet you at the wrecker games, I appreciate the time you took to chat. Rats nest looks great inside and out! It would be cool to see you wheel with Matt in the banana.
Love the jeep and thats my favorite green Colt. Im looking into getting my first jeep. Just a trail rig . I found a yj in great condition and its white and i may do the paint just like what you did. Great work and thanks for the great videos..
When I'm out wheeling and camping, I tend to want to Disappear and not stand out like your Cherokee will,I don't want to be seen from Saturn or Satellites, tend to want to be stealthy! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🥂😅,But that Paint job You just did Does look Great,to each his/her own so to say!👍👍🇺🇸
Rats Nest looks awesome Colt . I love the color you chose . I think I'm going to order the same hood vents that you used from Napier. As far as wrecking yards go , I do the same as you , I pull fuses and light bulbs and also wiring and relays for my stash . Take care my friend and catch you on your next video.
Lookin like you move been working out Colt*. Lookin good! Edit: Accidentally clicked on this video a second time and I’m glad I did because autocorrect had me looking rude!
Nobody gonna talk about the 2 for $5 Eggo Waffle deal window masking? LOL A bit late to the party here but watching Colt in videos is like relaxing in the shade on a tepid summer day. The man is just chill and funny too! Cheers!
Colt this week i may be buying my first jeep. A 1990 xj with a 6 inch lift psc steering chrysler 8.25 rear dana 30 front lockers at both ends. My first project will be manual hubs in the front to save driveline components and it has a bedliner paint job in white and may turn blue. 👍👍✌
The only DIY channel worth watching. No BS just getting it done.
I agree, but I think Colt should have his own channel as well as contributing on this one.
That looks amazing!
Thanks Matt, might be time for a Banana VS Rats Nest run!!😉👍
"I'd buy that for a dollar" 😆
I know right! I always loved that color and had no idea it came in a bedliner. I think the Avocado might be getting a bit greener'er!
Most of the rigs you'll see irl ARE bolt ons. ♥

I appreciate that!
I herculined my XJ. After a year it looked like it was in a fire. Everyone loved it.
YES I DID HAMMERED RUSTOLEUM ROOF AND HOOD ON MY 99 POWERSTROKE AND ITS AWESOME YEARS LATER!!!!!! ROLLED ON!!!!!!
Roller all the way! That's how my daughter and I painted our Rock Crawler! Works great 👍
My dad has roller painted his last 3 work trucks, battleship gray. They all looked great from afar(and actually not bad up close). Very durable, EASY to touch up and affordable.

Painted a van with paint brushes once and put the rainbow "heart beat" from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album on the side.
Colt, after your interesting time doing gears with Hillbilly...you are my hero! Straight forward in explaining and great sense of humor. You earned my subscription!!! You have a fan here!
Well thank you😎👍
I did the inside and outside of my YJ wrangler with Monstaliner. It's held up great through the years. I'm planning on doing my motorcycle next.
I rollered my box truck. I thought it was going to look terrible while it was dyring. But once it cured it was beautiful, and it has been like three years now it still looks great.
I did a XJ about 10 years ago in bright red UV resistant. Forget the brand. Lasted very well and very durable.
Looks great Colt, good job!

I rolled on raptor liner on my 85 C10 in the bed and interior of the truck 5 years ago, it still looks good.
Raptor liner holds up really well. We use it a lot and it does great even with shoddy prep.
Just out of High-school I had Chevy panel van that I turned into a camper inside. ive always liked the neon green accents on everything, over the top colt, rats nest will now have many admirers!!!
Yours turned out a lot better than the roll on job I did a decade ago!
That definitely is a green. Can’t be missed.
This video came out at a perfect time for me. I've watched a Bleepin Jeep video for every step on my XJ that I can't figure out myself. Colt and Matt are a perfect team. Keep Bleepin and Jeepin boys! 👍👍

You just gave Me a good idea for doing a part of My car, Colt. Thumbs up!
Glad I could help!
Love the XJ my very first off road family station wagon..lots of Wheeling memories in and XJ..

As a JK owner, I can't wait to see what you do with the JK (in 2024), but I will wait...😅🤙🏻
Looks amazing Colt great job and I too believe if you take the time to prep the results can be much better than expected
Yes it does make a huge difference!

Painted 2 xj's with Monstaliner using rollers. Love it.
Loving this channel more and more each video , keep at it guys !!
Great color choice, badass looking jeep.
Great work! Never tell anyone you know how to gear a front end - or paint a car with a brush...
colt that is a wild rig love the 2 door so you made me make a 2 door thank you so much for showing and sharing your rig have a great week
I once painted my old Ford Explorer Sport with International Red tractor paint in my driveway using a harbor freight paint sprayer and a borrowed air compresor.
Nice work on the build! Looks great
Thanks!
I sure have paint rolled a truck before. Tractor supply single stage. Turned out pretty awesome.
It was good meeting you all the other day! Thanks for the tips on my XJ (the FunJ).
As always, good content.
Levi
looks fantastic! XJs are the best. great job!
Thanks! 👍
I've done several rolled paint jobs on rusty old looking vehicles. I use implement paint from a farm store. Always looked better and that stuff is tough and cheap, probably not raptor tough but tough, many color options.
Got my limited time shirt and got it signed by the men themselves. Thx Colt and Matt.
Thanks for stopping by😉👍
My brother and I roller painted our boat with car paint. 😅 It turned out great
I like that colour and texture, looks like it will withstand a bit of trail work.
That's the hope!
What green is that?
At my old job we rolled painted our small box truck's box black. With standard outdoor paint..... 10 year later the vinyl was pealing off and the paint looked fine.
Awesomeness man! Next time a good tip is to use 1/4” rope behind the rubber moldings. Great job!
Looks awesome! Great job on the prep. That’s really key and something that even though I spent a lot of time on myself, I wish I had spent even more time. Also for sure the layers looked like it helped a lot. Another thing I wish I had done more of on my rig haha.

Thanks, yeah we need to get the cherokees together for sure!
Rolled a TJ with Monstraliner and it turned out fantastic. My JKU already had Monstraliner rolled on it.
I didn't think roll on bed liner would look that good I'm definitely doing it to mine
Seems like bright or lighter versions look better. The black versions are the ones where if you don't spray it or roll 3+ coats looka bad.
Very awesome build I dig the bright green
Well you can NEVER be a criminal in that car.
That truck looks Badass!!
Gotta love an XJ especially a green one!
my brother and i roll painted a 1965 belair station wagon ... flat black....painted the rear quarter widows too.....
Looks good, my brother did this a few years ago in orange on his Jeepster Commando, holds up well.
Man that thing is bold..I’ve always wanted to do something in a Kawasaki green but never had the nerve!
I must say that looks really good 😊. Nice 👍👌 job.
Love the jeep and thats my favorite green Colt. Im looking into getting my first jeep. Just a trail rig . I found a yj in great condition and its white and i may do the paint just like what you did. Great work and thanks for the great videos..
Do it bro! I soft brushed flat black your golden !!
I did the roof of my 90 cherokee with Glidden oil based. Came out tectured and lasted quite a while being out in Arizona sun.
never used a roller but i painted my 89 chevy with a wagner painter with metal barn paint lol,, looks great and easy touch up,,
When I'm out wheeling and camping, I tend to want to Disappear and not stand out like your Cherokee will,I don't want to be seen from Saturn or Satellites, tend to want to be stealthy! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🥂😅,But that Paint job You just did Does look Great,to each his/her own so to say!👍👍🇺🇸
Great off road paint job at a low cost. Awrsome
Awesome thank you!
Looking great Colt. Love the daily driver too.
I love this color. I did this on my first rc car
Funny, we actually did that exact color, on my buddies XJ about 20 years ago. And yes we even used a roller 🤣
Lookin like you move been working out Colt*. Lookin good! Edit: Accidentally clicked on this video a second time and I’m glad I did because autocorrect had me looking rude!
Turned out pretty great! Good job man!
Looking good Colt! Should be able to find you in the dark now.
Great video and how to do a paint job on the cheap side it looks great and God bless from GA and stay safe
Back in the 70s I helped dad paint a car with Rustoleum and a foam brush. Have never tried a roller.
great job i have a 1994 ram 2500 4wd think i will paint it the same way looked great its white now
Nobody gonna talk about the 2 for $5 Eggo Waffle deal window masking? LOL A bit late to the party here but watching Colt in videos is like relaxing in the shade on a tepid summer day. The man is just chill and funny too! Cheers!
I painted a 66 datsan construction yellow with a roller. Looks great, like the green
I’ll look you up if you don’t mind when i get there to check it out in person.
I have a friend did that to his square body Bronco… looks good ( white )
Colt this week i may be buying my first jeep. A 1990 xj with a 6 inch lift psc steering chrysler 8.25 rear dana 30 front lockers at both ends. My first project will be manual hubs in the front to save driveline components and it has a bedliner paint job in white and may turn blue. 👍👍✌
