*FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER* we're going inside Ryotaro's house!
His brand new countryside estate in the mountains of Zao. Suitably located at the base of the mountain I almost died on, when he took me skiing in a blizzard 6 years ago.
Enjoy our last episode with Ryotaro and brace yourself for the biggest Journey Across Japan video of the series and release in a couple of days time (an epic video alluded to at the ending).
Good job Chris. Loving the series so far, Don't tell Ryotaro though.
Whats the meaning of 10:47's board?
Ahhhh, nothing better than a fresh Abroad in Japan video in the morning! Keep up the great work!
I am enjoying this series of journey Across Japan
Thank you for your wonderful & hilarious channel mate 👍😁
We finally made it to the world-famous-gotta-be Iizaka Gyoza restaurant and filmed the owner smiling behind us while we were rapaciously devouring the plate.
Also, I'm so happy that many of you seem to like my 2nd house. Let's see how long it takes for the book to be graffitied.
I think the bigger insult would be no one reading it at all
New place looks swanky!
new place looks awesome! thats a lot of coins im sure.
So how does one go about booking a stay pray tell?
Congrats on the house. It looked super nice!
The owner seems so happy and watching people eat his food, so cute.
If you had someone come in and praise your restaurant to 3 million viewers, you would be happy also.
@@elund408 in sure it's the fact they seem to enjoy the meal more but okay
@@brittybrad or both
@@brittybrad i am sure they told him how much they enjoyed it, they just edit out that part. they both seam like people, people. ready to complement and engage.
I hope so! I was screaming to them through the screen, "say thank you!!!!!" lol@@elund408
Wow Ryotaro's "swanky countryside retreat" is incredible. Wonder what crime he had to commit to be able to afford it!
By being one of the few Japanese who can speak English fluently
12:15 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He is a secret agent. His main house probably be a mansion or castle. The house in this video is one of his safehouses around Japan. Hint: Chris terrible rendition of Mission Impossible theme song on piano
Rape.
He is a spy for Takeshi.
"How do you get that [hot spring water]?"
"There is a pipe"
Such a simple and obvious answer, but I love that delivery. I think a big part of what makes a lot of your videos so cool is the amazing friends you bring along and the weird chemistry. So far another great series, and wow is that house just stunning.
It could have been a tube.
I kind of got what Chris actually ment, I mean, there's no way anybody can just randomly "take" hotspring water into random private property, it's about the required paperworks
Yeah I got it as well, it is also probably unusual to have hot spring water in your house.
It is like when people ask me what I am making them for lunch and I say "food", it is correct but not at all the answer you are looking for.
@@WanderingNewZealand Ryotaro gave complete answer though ... right after the "pipe" 🤣🤣
the meat riding is crazy
I never thought you'd touch gyoza again after the monster challenge
Is that the huge one?
I don't think you can even call that one a gyoza. Gyoza just doesn't scale up properly; the proportions were all wrong. I'd sooner attempt the equivalent weight of normal sized gyoza than eat even half of the monster.
@@gracekim25yeah
i was thinking of the exact same thing ^^
That's like every giant food that's created it won't appear like their original unless is a soup based food
well you could make giant one and put an entire cow too tho lol
So nice to see big channels like RyotarosJapan help out small creators like Chris.
I used to know Chris as "That guy from RyotarosJapan channel." so it's nice to see that Abroad in Japan has become it's own thing now.
Chris has nearly 3 million followers, Ryotaro only has a few hundred thousand. Chris is the big channel.
@@bartwatts1921 *Whoosh*
7:35 The fact that the ski trip was 6 years ago already really shows how time flies
please include some of the calmer moments from around the day as well. it made this series special and made it just that much better.
I agree, watching the scenery, the streets, etc... all of that is always nice.
Those episodes need to be a tiny little bit longer with just a little more showing of the streets and roads and surroundings - The journey is the goal of every journey 👴 great to see ryotaro again - I so missed him 🤓
the transition bits probably are cut for viewer retention
Wow never thought Ryotoro had a human family 😂
Who said it's human ?
this is Japan you can rent a family.
He could have several of them in that “storage area” for all we know. 😂
I don't know, they weren't featured. Pics or it didn't happen 😂.
Damnit, I was just thinking this when I saw the original comment.
"Of course, he's got a lot of families in that house. Somewhere."
Your chemistry With your friends truely makes your personalities come out and truely make these videos something special on the internet
I absolutely love Ryotaro's new house. The warm wood makes it really cozy.
What a meanie Ryotoro is by chucking you out of his house 😂. He didn't even let you use the onsen bath 😢. I do love Ryotoro's new house. A diary note for you Chris:
'Today, I complimented Ryotoro'
Definitely one for the history books 📚😂
Average rich person. "Come see my second house. What? No it's my house it's not for you sleeping in it.."
I’m pretty sure I visited this gyoza place once during my exchange studies 10 years ago!
There was a super rude Japanese customer in there at the same time as us yelling at the staff about how the food wasn’t as amazing as he expected it to be and that he had been driving really far etc. it was really awkward.
The food was indeed really good so we made a very strong point on telling this to the staff as we were leaving. It seemed like very appreciated praise at the time and we got some extra little gifts as we were leaving.
Of course Ryotaro has a great house, he’s the ultimate operator. Great gyoza and really cute おじいちゃん cooking them.
“Don’t play in my house!” I love him.
loving the new series but wish that you'd show more of the actual journey instead of just the destination
Same here. The first JAJ was so nice to watch as it had the journey alao being included. This series lacks of nice drone shots. The main reason how I have binged on Abroad in Japan was those nice scenery shots. This JAJ seems more destination oriented than the whole journey being in the focus.
Yeah, even a Timelapse dash cam with music and no frills uploaded later on would be so fun
Yeah could not agree more.
It might be because Chris isn’t editing this time around. It’s super duper subtle but I can see a difference in how the videos are edited even though it’s the same style and I think this is part of it. Probably doesn’t help that even if there are four separate editors they are still under pressure to get the videos done in 24 hours so they might be picking and choosing to make it easier on them.
In the actual journey Chris just sleeps in the car while his friends drive.
Risottoro being Mr. Fancy with that house. I love all the storage spaces.
I'm glad I was eating while watching this because that gyoza looked so good it made me hungry. One crispy side is how I like gyoza too. That whole restaurant looked so cozy and perfect to go eat after a cold snowy day.
I absolutely love Ryotaro’s resort house. Love the traditional Japanese home style aesthetic but with all the modern comforts and conveniences. The in-home onsen is a wonderful luxury touch. I hope more people will save and restore these beautiful traditional homes.
I agree with the other people saying you should put more of the mundane moments in the video, it really made it feel personal and you've always had the great polished moments but it feels like somethings missing
I actually love all the color in Ryotaro's country home! He has really good tastes. I love how Chris sees the storage as "body space", but Sharla would be thrilled with such a large area to have as a reading/relaxation nook!
This should become a TV Show with how entertaining it is, i'm really enjoying watching these videos every night. Thanks for this great content
So nice to see Chris and Ryotaro have finally learned to sit so their eating arms aren't banging against each other :)
Loving the series and catching up every day.
When I studied abroad in Sendai there was a gyoza shop near my dorm my buddy and I went to all the time after a night of drinking. Was the same style of crunchy gyoza.
When I visited years later I was super sad to find out he retired and closed up shop.
I still think of that gyoza
Journey across Japan is always such a treat. The right blend of cinematography and storytelling that draws you in. Somehow it stays informative yet entertaining. Akin to a well written documentary without the dullness associated with the genre thereof.
I'm so impressed by these daily videos so far, thank you to the whole team!
And I'm shocked that he's doing a daily video
@@jonaramire That's because he isn't. He's missed a few days already. 🤣 But six videos in nine days is still great.
Chris, Ever since coming across your video on how to make friends in Japan 8 years ago with Natsuki, I was hooked for one by your sarcastic yet funny banter but more so by the insanely high production quality. It has gotten even higher over the years, crazy!!
Today, 8 years later, here I am sitting in Tokyo watching Journey Across Japan Non-stop North with my wife!
Bloody Hell, what a whirlwind turn of events it has been! Thanks as always to you and your team's effort for making amazing content and All the Best for surviving the North 😄👍🏼
That’s my favorite type of gyoza as well. I learned that if you put a little starch in the water when you steam them then they get a delightful crispy lace around the edges when you fry them. It’s also good if you have the patience and skill to cook them at home.
That gyoza really looks good! You can hear the crunch and the one who cooked it is an expert. On the other hand his bathroom is probably the most unique design I've ever seen, never have I ever thought that I'll see something like that.
That was a fake crunch edited in later.
how refreshing to see Chris being the one getting left behind for once and not the guests lmao. and by Ryotaro no less!!
Woah, Ryotaro's home is SO nice. LOVE the coffee table. Very cool.
Ramen plus gyoza is the epitome of Japanese lunch. Love it.
Absolutely loving these daily videos can’t get enough of them. It is gonna be hard going back to normal once this adventure has finished
You really make me nostalgic with this series. The intro music makes me feel like a kid and then Japan makes me feel like life before I had kids. Love it
Ryotaro that’s such a great investment! If I am not wrong I think Japan’s government is trying to promote more tourism. The in house hot spring water will certainly be attractive to tourist! Congrats on the house!🎉
Make the videos longer pls, it feels like they're a bit too condensed, like they're kinda in between a trailer and a full video or something. It doesn't even have to be anything planned/scripted, but just more of the Journey part. I'm pretty sure most people would rather see more of the journey in total every other day, than less only so that it can be uploaded as soon as possible.
It's less frantic than the Okinawa one though. That one didn't feel chill or cozy at all - and not just cause it was hot weather. I think they're moving in the right direction now, but I agree, I'd like even more downtime with drone shots, timelapses, etc.
I love Ryotoro being the best friend ever carrying Chris’ book throughout the whole last part!
Love all the small interviews in each episode. Its so nice to get a comment from the locals
Ryotaro's crib is legit. Guy has taste!
One of my favorite parts is seeing landmarks I can visit. Beautiful onsen, amazing restaurants, and the easiest to access, Ryotoro's house.
I’m so proud of Chris and the team for the quality they’ve maintained on the tight Journey Across Japan schedule this year. Thank you all for such excellent entertainment to get us through a chunk of bleak winter!
I love how this show goes over some of the lesser known parts of Japan. I'm hopefully taking my dad on a two week excursion next year and hope to go to some of the areas you've put on display with this wonderful series!
If you make it up to Iwate, do try to hit Ryusendo Cave. Very cool.
Gotta say, Chris was kinnda cooking with that piano.
I just love Ryotaro and Dave together! Great chemistry
Chris, Dave, Barry Chopsticks and Mr. Affable all have great chemistry with Rizotto.
dont forget VIP the Big @@Sukenus
The gyoza looked absolutely mouthwatering and Ryotaro's swanky countryside home was indeed, very swanky and luxurious.
I've really been enjoying JAJ and am looking forward to the next episode. I tried to save it to watch tonight because I believe in saving the best for last, but I'm sorely in need of cheering up.
Its so obvious you are proper envious of his house. And happy for him too. To each their own successes in life. Good for both of you
It's lovely seeing you both enjoying your time, as a viewer from the start of the channel I always feel inspired by what you film and I'm working on my own channel now to reach your level of filmmaking.

Good one Chris.
The Guoza looked very yummy. Ryotaro's coutry house is very start. All those hidden storage area would be great fun for kids to play hide and seak in. The "Room of Many Colours" was also very good.
I’m loving this journey across japan, good job Chris!
Aaaaa I've been loving all these journey across japan updates! One of my favorite series on youtube!
Hahaha glad to see the on camera banter is still going strong. I missed you, Ryotaro!!! And it's amusing how Ryotaro is the only one Chris doesn't abandon at the end of their journey both in the 1st and now current season.
Thanks for showing Iizaka, Chris. I have a life mission to go to every major onsen town in Japan and this is one of my favorites. Lovely town with kind people. I took a large number of my friends out here just after they opened up after the Tohoku tsunami - the onsen and town were amazingly kind and appreciative of our visit - basically we were one of the few groups there. They turned up the hospitality to max to show their appreciation and I’ll never forget that. Amazing town.
Ryotaro's country house is really nice, looks comfortable and warm.
Chris explained on X that the next video is one day later because it's shot over two days. No need to panic y'all.
One day later....after 3 days no video. I think the math is a bit off
I’m literally going through a tough time right now and still pulling myself to work where it’s mental because of Christmas season and I’m watching these perfectly timed videos in my break. They really lift up my mood and are a highlight of the day. Thank you so much Chris and team ! ❤
Always great to see an Abroad in Japan video.
Owner of gyoza shop is SO SWEET 🖤🖤🖤
As always great video Chris! Great to see Ryotaro again and you are killing it. keep it up!
Journey across Japan videos are always my favourite! Enjoying watching every day.
Very jealous of the gyoza...!
I'd love to take a retreat out to Ryotaro's House, it looks so perfect
Chris and Ryotaro are really cute. always happy and full of mischief. By the way, great 2nd house, really classy.
thank you to the editing team working around the clock to get these videos out!!! I am always happy waking up to these videos having to just came back from japan a week ago
I am loving these series!
I am loving this series!
These videos are why I like this channel. They are so wonderful and real and intense. More please!!
Wow, Ryotaro's brand new country house is Beautiful! , as always, Thanks Chris for the great video.
Gyoza is in my top 3 favorite foods 😋 I love gyoza so much 🫃
I am absolutely loving these daily videos, I look forward to them every day as a nice break from studying :)
Loving the series! Quality work 💛
Wow Chris, great content! The quality of your videos has gotten so good.
That looks absolutely amazing. Good to see you enjoying a plate of such fine foods with good people. Cheers from the mitten state of Michigan.
Congrats Ryotaro on your new home beautiful purchase for sure
When I'm feeling down and stressed out (which is most days these days) I escape into this world. You're fun. You're sarcastic and snarky, and you're lovely. You make me happy and take me places I've never seen before. I just want to eat every single thing you eat!
Ryotaro's house looks amazing!
And speaking of UFOs, Fukushima is a sort of hotspot for UFO sightings.
Ryotaro's house has unlocked a new reason to go to Tohoku. I'd stay there in a heartbeat. :) Looks great! Too bad he threw you out!
That onsen just casually being inside of the house is an elite idea. Right, that's it. I'm making it my ultimate life goal to own a house with one of those in..
Chris linking camera man Pauls' channel in the description box ended up me finding out that Paul has an amazing singing voice! Love it. Also, Ryotaro's house is amazing! Always love your chemistry. Can't wait to see what's next!
Not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed that Ryotaro's house wasn't a secret volcano base with laser turrets and some sort of missile of doom....
I think it was on the condition that he didn’t mention it - is why Ryotaro agreed to appear.
That gyoza looked sooooo delicious. Also, oh my god, a hot spring inside Ryotaro's house?! That's incredible! I'm jelly lol.
Fantastic episode as always, alway a joy to see Ryotaro, his new house looks amazing, as for the colourful room, I think it works except for the coloured pillows
Wow! Ryotaro’s home is stunning.
There is such a consistently good quality to this series, very well done to all involved, it is very much appreciated!
Chris is a total pro. As well done as any BBC doc. Top notch production team.
Chris is like a proper British lad. All that dramatic and sassy mannerism. Wholesome show!
What a beautiful house. It perfectly reflects Ryotaros personality.
Lmfao seeing the chef just watching them from behind 😂😂😂,and they not even noticed
ahahaha same, i think he was waiting for them to say thank you
Just finished last video and was like "oh man can't wait for the next one, lets see what other videos I missed" and suddenly here we are.
The man just enjoying watching you two enjoy his gyoza is so wholesome
That gyoza looked so delicious and with winter here, it'd be so nice to soak in the hot spring. Can't wait to see what's next!
Never had Gyoza before, but they look extremely delicious. Ryotaro's house looks amazing and very cozy!
Congrats to Ryotaro! What a gorgeous investment property.
advertising your book in this video helped... I finally bought it after watching, and I can't wait to read it🎉 Amazing video as always. Keep up the good work
I don't think Chris and Ryotoro ignored the gzoya chef, it just looks that way in the edit. You can tell by the way the chef's position changes.
Chris and Ryotoro always engage with the chef/shop owners in their vid.
Oh man this is the funniest AiJ episode in a while 😂 Gotta love it
Ryotaro’s house is incredible
our trip across Japan is totally mesmerizing. Isaka seems like a rad place and that food, dang it's mouth-watering!
Ryotaro is such a cool guy IMO. Great friend to have, love the personality. Fun episode!
That's a sweet house, Ryotaro! Good job!
“So we’re staying the night?”
“What? No, I’m renting this out” Ah, so that’s why he took Chris on a tour of it😂
Gotta say though, that would be a nice destination vacation spot, so I ain’t even mad 😂
