Hello. I actually wrote a small article on the local housing associations webpage outlining how to deal with Asbestos. I'm from Teesside in England and many of our buildings have Asbestos built into them, either through their initial construction or due to steel industry workers taking home Asbestos based blast furnace insulation and using it in their own home renovation projects. The best thing to do if you have identified something as containing Asbestos, or believe something contains Asbestos is to leave it as it is. Asbestos when left alone is harmless, when handled and worked upon it releases the fibres that make it harmful. Removal of Asbestos in buildings should be done only by those with a license to remove it. All Asbestos waste, including household items are to be disposed of in packaging featuring UN approved hazardous waste labels, which you can obtain through contact with the relevant environmental agencies of your country of residence. Stay safe, Chris!
Hope you don't mind if I piggyback off this, but I work in relation to asbestos. It's just a bathmat, so the thing to do is to properly seal it in a plastic bag and then dispose according to regulations. However, fibers might be everywhere due to it being a bathmat so just use a disposable mop and wet everything down (asbestos sinks when wet) and then mop it all up and also dispose accordingly to regulations for hazardous material. If there are still concerns, an air test can be performed. :)
Getting bathmat full of asbestos In a year where absolutely everything went wrong, seems like a fitting end of the year. - Wait wait wait..till you start playing that Cyberpunk 2077.

Me who actually watched hundreds of japanese movies and dramas: ah, the guy who I have seen in too many movies and dramas to remember where he appeared
Chris, technically asbestos is safe unless it’s deteriorated, then if disturbed the fibers can spread. As long as your bathmat isn’t damaged, you’re alright. If you want to get rid of it, then carefully wrap it up in at least 2 layers of heavy garbage bags, duct tape the seams, and wrap it around the matt. Then I guess give a call to some agency who can dispose of it properly. Stay safe Chris
+1. We actually had some gaskets on our tractor that were asbestos. It is the dust that's really the issue. My old high school had asbestos in the flooring, but it was all sealed under laminating layers and was harmless.
Also, the asbestos in this case is clearly being used as a reinforcing filler for the rubber that is used to fabricate the mat. Even if you cut the mat up it’s very unlikely that the asbestos will form a dust hazard. As an analogy, car tyres contain carbon black as a colouring and bulking agent. If you cut up an old tyre do you get a black mist of carbon coming out? No.
On the flip side, I still want to experience Japan's seasonal celebrations! 😁 I just bumped into your channel few days ago and I like your creativity and frankness. Keep it up Chris. 🤗
I was eating my dinner hoping to hear something nice but then Chris started talking about asbestos and John's smell and that was the moment I stopped eating..
Probably other folks have already written this, but if the mats are deteriorated and expelling dust you must wet the mats in water, then seal the mats in a plastic bag that has the wording "ASBESTOS" which must also include the hazardous sign. You must then dispose the material in a hazardous material dump, not your standard dump or trash. It is rather pricey to dump asbestos properly. If mat is good condition, you can place them in a standard sealed garbage bag and dispose in your trash. Best of Luck.
In 1989 I traveled from Los Angeles to Japan, to work on the film “Teito Taisen” as an American special effects artist - one of three imported from America to wiggle rubber monster puppets and do gruesome makeup effects. I got to know the “Uncle Sanders” as he is supposedly known, as the Colonel Sanders character was marketed as an elderly family character, tailored this way to get a better response from the audience in Japan. Two months working on a crazy supernatural movie (a WW2 period piece, as a matter of fact!) was quite educational, and we had lots of fun while either working or not, exploring the various canned coffees and weird vending machines that were seemingly available everywhere. Memorable fun, yes. Love your video.

Japan has some of the most visually stunning and breathtaking landscapes I've ever seen in my life, and I've only ever experienced it secondhand through a screen. That shot of the mountain during the montage towards the end genuinely captivated me- one of these days, I swear I'm going to visit Japan and see it myself.
i think the point was that in a lot of the rest of the world theres an underlying christmas spirit in a lot of things, wheras in japan its missing that
@@ciarangale4738 I hear what you are saying, but what is the "underlying christmas spirit" that Japan is missing out on? It seems to be pretty family and friends focused (the KFC family meals for example), happy (decorations everywhere, music, etc.), and about celebration. What are they missing? Shopping mall Santas? Parking frustration when shopping? Taking on crushing credit card debt when trying to buy gifts for everyone?
@@ciarangale4738 You're sort of right. The only difference is that Japan isn't a Christian country in the sense that the UK/West is and they've taken what we do and added a twist. Like Christmas with a twist lol. Here in America, even though there are so many traditions and religious associations, it is also SO COMMERCIALIZED that I kind of want to avoid it here too 😅 also the amount of preparation and stress that goes into making an America Christmas dinner 😮💨but I know what you mean about the festive spirit. There is something deeply ingrained in the Christmas spirt that warms our hearts in the winter time, I can’t imagine not having that to look forward to.

2020 has been a year of fuck all for me. Quit my job in June, still haven't got a new one to this day. It's not about there being a lack of jobs (although that's definitely a factor), it's that this year really got me thinking about what I really want to do. I'm only 24, but during my uni days I've stopped dreaming... Literally and figuratively. I stopped paying attention to what was important to me, and put myself down because of it. Recently I started dreaming again. Visiting Japan is one of those dreams, so I've started studying the language little by little. The asbestos is currently contained within the bathmat mold/shape." So, double bag it, tying up each bag separately and wait for the recall information. Asbestos is only dangerous in its friable form.

@@Leslie_Smith Brilliant advice. :)

It's not some magical cotton candy that stops you getting hurt. It's like falling on the normal ground but cold and wet.

@@BDaltonYoung it's gonna be a pain cleaning that out when the old school is demolished
No.
The only thing that comes to mind is Chris getting arrested because what you described would probably look like he's dealing drugs lmao
The sheer sarcastic and cynical energy exuding from Chris is making me happy
Natsuki singing Christmas songs is something I never knew I needed until I heard it.

So..... Christmas.
And Valentines day too.
The only good news about covid is that I haven't had to hear "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" in a grocery store.
Not once.
It’s about money
Literally all western holidays are more or less bastardized and commercialized in Japan.
Yes but no I mean in my country we pray that day and make a manger with the family of Jesus, we celebrate Christmas for Jesus not for the gifts
There's something comforting about Chris' misery that makes me come back to this video every year.
You slipping dramatically on the streets with a "has high functionality" shirt is priceless
"Seeing as Natsuki isn't a big spender, we did without." Almost not surprised Natsuki paid. Lol. The gifts seem fitting for all the cheap birthday gifts you gave this year. 😂
"Christmas in Japan starts earlier than back home." you can tell chris has been gone for a while, UKers have been dealing with christmas on nov 1st for some years now T.T
November 1st? What part of the UK are you in? Christmas stuff where I am is out in early October!
I saw Christmas stuff already in the shops on Halloween!
I find that Christmas seems to start at around October where I am.
Aye it's shite
Once Halloween stuff hits the shelves, the build up for Christmas begins
As someone from Kentucky, I can confirm, we are Christmas.

I don't comment a lot so this is my Christmas gift to the abroad channel: You've absolutely crushed it ever since I started watching you years ago and always manage to get me to laugh so thank you for all the videos and happy holidays!
That montage was so heartwarming. Maybe 2020 wasn’t so bad after all. Masterful transitions!
I think Natsuki’s English got better this year too! He’s got a good singing voice! But don’t tell him I said that.
technically Christmas is more an economic holiday in the west too, and xmas here in NY seems to start IMMEDIATELY after Halloween, with SOME mention of Thanksgiving along the way (but not much other than on the day).
His cardboard cutout of that dude, I legitimately thought it was Jose Mourinho at first, holy shit.
You and Natsuki's friendship is what makes me look forward to 2021.
woah i had no idea about KFC during xmas haha!
"Christmas is completely commercialized in Japan"...this is so shocking and not at all like Christmas everywhere else. I love it.
i think the point was that in a lot of the rest of the world theres an underlying christmas spirit in a lot of things, wheras in japan its missing that
@@ciarangale4738 I hear what you are saying, but what is the "underlying christmas spirit" that Japan is missing out on? It seems to be pretty family and friends focused (the KFC family meals for example), happy (decorations everywhere, music, etc.), and about celebration.
What are they missing? Shopping mall Santas? Parking frustration when shopping? Taking on crushing credit card debt when trying to buy gifts for everyone?
@@thatotherguy4245 eh hard to explain my thought processes, and its honestly naught but a hypothesis based on chris's explanation.
@@ciarangale4738 You're sort of right. The only difference is that Japan isn't a Christian country in the sense that the UK/West is and they've taken what we do and added a twist.
Everytime we walk past a homeless person we've spat at Christ's teachings and when we buy presents not thinking of his message we reject his spirit. This is the true meaning of Christmas. Th Japanese just have their own quirk to this practise.
@@thatotherguy4245 I think its mostly used for "dating" time in Japan thereby lacking that "Christmas" feel. My brother lives in Japan and my family all went to visit him during the holiday a few years back. I was the only one that didn’t get to go!! (But I have been to Japan myself before during an exchange program in college) I know this isn’t a very lofty goal but I’ve always wanted to eat kfc in Japan on Christmas Day (with loved ones ofc not by myself) 😂 and then maybe spend the evening in an onsen in some snowy old fashion Japanese village.
The mini kfc Pete was a nice addition to the video, Merry Christmas Chris and Natsuki!
Well spotted! ;)

Agreed. Every single year I do everything in my power to eat anything *other* than turkey for Christmas. Thanksgiving is more than enough for a year.
Moist, flavourful turkey legs rival a whole chicken, imo.
But I think Europeans either have other breed of turkeys or prepare it differently which explains why Americans see it as dry and bland ^^
