I kind of jumped into the RC world feet first and bought my first rig as a gas 1/5 scale. Have a friend who I really want to get into rock crawling to run with and he’s been doing it for a while and has been a big help. As far as budget goes one thing I did notice is getting into this as a first timer not only the rig but another thing I had to consider was the cost of getting into batteries. Since I haven’t really owned any RC in the past to get my first crawler I also need a couple of batteries and a good charger as I don’t want any fires or any mistakes and this is added an extra $150-$200 to my budget but considering I will probably end up buying more trucks in the future I’m kind of looking at it as an investment

This is an awesome video, and it's still relevant now. I've been looking at a Redcat Gen8 V2, Axial SCX10 II/III, and the new Traxxas High Trail editions. I love scale crawlers, to me "scale" means no body pins, that's why I started considering Traxxas more.

I’m new to crawling and my starter truck is a wpl c24-1. It’s a 1/16 scale with an old 80’s model Toyota shell. You can get it for $80-$100 and it comes with 3 rechargeable batteries, graphics kit, and accessories. So far I’ve been very impressed with its capability and range. It doesn’t have a ton of upgradable options but there are parts you can order to improve its performance. I’m waiting on a kit with axles, shocks, and gearing that I found. I also have a wheel and tire set ordered, but I took a gamble on weather or not they will fit. If you don’t have the budget for a 1/10 scale crawler, definitely check this truck out.

My budget was $500. I spent $423 on the truck up front, ready to run out of the box. Then I spent the rest of my budget on extra stuff like servo horns and body pins (I was told you lose a lot of those) as well as tools, battery monitors, and a transport fireproof bag.

You know what.... spot on mate!!! +1 from me...1st Crawler, Bought a Banggood ,SCX10 "clone" portal axle carbon and aluminium beast of a thing and love it... Got it 2nd hand, super cheap barely used.
To look at, and drive it's gorgeous... with 2.2's it's invincible!! Blown away!
Being an X-Maxx owner.... it does, everything and rarely breaks... but the whole crawler thing... it's really solid and the people that share the hobby really share how they feel and will always try and help you to get your driving and your rig performing quite a few levels above you think you ever would... get out there and be social!!!! Crawling is huge fun... even in you're own garden... try the X-Maxx in your own garden... meh... neighbours window is going to be penetrated like nothing else.. hahahaa (Yeah... HUGE fan of the 8S X-Maxx... Brutal Animal of a car!)
The creativity in 1/10th crawling is waaaaay cool... customisation.. it's crazy.
Always vary a hobby... It's the enrichment of life....!!!
    Awesome vid mate!

Alot of great info there. I built mine from the ground up, piece by piece. Ive got a thread on rcc of it in the scx10ii section. I wanna get the tr4 bronco next. Ive got so many ideas for different rigs. So ill probably end up with many many different trucks lol. My wifes goina end up kickin my butt! Only downfall, theres not really anybody where i live, that i know of, that has crawlers. Now, my boss has an airport behind the concrete plant n he has idk how many planes. I know if I buy something it's not going to be good enough unless it's competition grade. Any ideas on where I can find this outor maybe a crawler that would already come that way $800-900 max I have a really good controller already so I do not need that but I ran nitro my whole life so I need to learn the electric and battery aspect of it. Get a trx4 sport but if you want more speed it a defender but truly get a sport there all around better cheap to make to start great I have a defender and I wish I got a sport. save your money and has more room to grade more room to mark more modes and less to go wrong but rlly up to how think your gonna use it want to go from 5 mph to 11 get the defender but don’t then go for sport and will be better for you but depends how you want to run but rlly up to how you want to go

To those who say " traxxas is not good for beginner, they are too expensive" it is not true. I got a 4- tec, an trx4, an scx10 and an hpi sprint 2 and all of them are very cool cars. I preffered trx4 for the two speed transmission and portal axle, the sprint 3 flux is faster than the 4- tec. The scx10 is pretty cool too
