Great series. And you are absolutly right. Tires make the biggest change in performance, as well in 1/1 car world as it is in 1/10 RC cars. And definatly with crawlers and trail driving. Very well explained. Thank you.
That was excellent! It really correlated with what I do, and what bounces around in my head ideas-wise. As always you deliver a wise and accurate no B.S. review. Thanks! 🏁👌🤙
Yes, finally! Siping and sticky rubber info. Sizing is confusing too.
Thanks for the video Francis, very informative as usual without the BS. I watched an earlier video of yours and you were talking about the proline hyrax w/ predator compound and decided that’s what I want for my Gen8. I went down to my local hobby shop to order some and they looked at me like I was crazy, said the hyrax only came in the G8 compound. I said no and made them look it up, low and behold proline had them listed. So got them to order me up a set, they should be here next week. I’ll hit you up on the Gen8 Scout II FB page and let you know how they worked out, but after seeing you do the rebound test I know they’re going to be just what the doctor ordered! Again much appreciated!
I'm buying mud slingers as they are what everyone uses where I live but the ones you order are great
Great info. And yeah, that's exactly what I did with my tire- I cut it here and there to create an irregular pattern. It's cool when other people came up with the same ideas.
Hi from Costa Rica 🇨🇷 ,thanks for this video, super swappers 1.9 whit memory foam
Same here, to me the best overall tyres
good on the rocks, great in the mudd, they can dig hard but clean the lugs real fast
Currently use the cheap Austar versions, but will look for the super swampers XL 1.9 sized just for that scale look👍🏻
Great info again without any bull or favouritism, thanks for sharing.
Thank you. Tried to cover the fundamentals.
Just so you know, the tread "knobs" are called "lugs". I have found that sometimes running my tires backwards is an advantage, especially in certain types of sticky mud. One of my trail rigs came stock with 103mm tall 1.9 tires, they looked out of scale. They rubbed the body, and the center of gravity was too high so it rolled real easy. I replaced them with 96mm tall 1.9 tires. I did lose some ground clearance, but not only did it lower the center of gravity, it allowed me to lower the body which lowered the center of gravity even more. It worked out pretty well on this particular rig because it's more a trail crawler than a rock crawler.
Thank you very much for that.
Have been running duratrax showdowns with dual stage, favorite all around tire
The 1.9 ripsaws should be one the best tires i have been running them for all my rigs and the never fail me but great video
Great series and content. I've watched part 1 and 2, can't wait for part 3.
Part 3 is not as awesome. Mic died before the gems :|

@@RCReviewChannel Aw man!
Another great information video 👍 thanks 🙏
Thanks for the info very helpful
Love your videos my friend
I’ve been using the Proline BFG Krawler predator compound for the last few weeks, have found them to be and excellent tyre (tire), I think for my local conditions and terrain they are more versatile than the mighty Proline Hyrax. Another tyre (tire) I’ve been enjoying and getting great results from, particularly on my Trx Bronco is the RC4WD Mick Thomson Baja Claw. Stock foams in each of the above mentioned.
It’s quite warm where I live here in Australia, even through the winter months so we don’t suffer some of the tyre (tire) problems brought on by the cold that you guys in cooler climates have so softness and stickiness even with harder compounds generally isn’t an issue.
Very good to hear. We only have two outings with the BFG Krawler, Predator compound and were blown away with its mixed terrain, wet and sidehill abilities.
The BFG’s seem to be an excellent tyre (tire) so far.
FYI, when I mentioned using stock foams I was talking about the stock foams that came with the tyres (tires) not the ones that came with the vehicles.
The Predator compound Krawlers seem surprisingly durable and the lugs are holding up well, the RC4WD Mickey Thompson BAJA Claw don’t show the same durability, the lugs are getting a little torn up from use on the same terrain but they do give excellent grip.
The next tyre I want to try are the RC4WD Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ 2.2 narrows, for those that don’t know they are a 2.2 tyre (tire) with smaller diameter of around 119 mm (4.7 “) so essentially you should get less tyre (tire) roll when side hilling due to less side wall stretch/flex as the wall height is shorter due to larger wheel diameter with outer tyre (tire) diameter the same as 1.9 size.
Another FYI, the reason for (tire) in brackets is for the U.S spelling police who don’t realise in other countries we spell it TYRE...😉
Still waiting for proline to release a 4.2 version of the krawler. So irritating
Ty for the video I'm just getting into crawling and I found ur video to b very knowledgabale
Check our other stuff, especially the series on batteries. #safetyfirst
Great info I'm getting ready to order new tires and wheels for my gen8
i recently got myself a gen8. just wondering what the best mods you've made to it so far are?
Very good review video~!!👍😁👍
Chevrons are designed to be self cleaning. The idea is for the Chevron to drive the loose material outward, away from the center of the tire.
Good help Thanks
Thank you thank you thank you! I really enjoy the breakdown on videos of certain parts that make a vehicle do what it needs to do.
Appreciate the time that you took to do your research.
Subbed ! Thank you for your efforts
Those directional tires are designed to be self cleaning. Instead of pushing dirt towards the middle. You want them to pusj dirt out of the way to find good ground.
Gotcha. Good insight. Guess that's important for mudding. For pure crawling performance the other way will provide more traction.
Good to know the intent of it though and one can optimize accordingly.
Wow!! I didn't realize that! Make sense now.. thanks brother!
@@RCReviewChannel hi, love your content. I have a disabled client who i agreed to get a trx4 bronco if he did to help him with his hobby. Instead of him buying countless cheapo rubbish RC cars that die within a week
Just something i noticed you mention wrt traxxas tyres. You said the outer knobs draw dirt in, but they are swept back not forward. If swept back i believe that would clean dirt outwards not draw dirt inwards 🤷♂️ path of least resistance so to speak.
Is there anyway i can contact you?
I'm an aircraft technician learning RC. Trying to teach my client and save him money on his hobby.
Regards, Richo 👍🇦🇺
Good info brother
Always interesting
Cool, what tires, foam, and wheels are on the blue gen8?
I'm torn between the km3 and the hyrax for my bronco 2021.. I'm gonna get the Proline dual stage foams. I'm not sure which tire to get bot of them in predator compound. I do a lot of dusty rock crawling
What would be a good set of tires for on a dirt and rock mix. Would the hyrax be good or should I go with something like the bfg krawler or mud terrain.
Siping is razor blade slices. Anything bigger than that is called grooving.
Steering servo is a close second though :)
agree
Love all your videos mate. It’s real relaxing.
Great video! , Keep them coming mate
Yeah, seems no one out there explains the details.
So true !
Thanks for all the information you pass onto fello rc'ers
What do you think are the best tires for climbing tall mossy hills
Two things:
1. You use the broad term "crawler" while meaning only "scale crawler". My Losi Comp Crawler does just fine with 5.5" tires...
2. Rotational direction. While the manufacturer has a suggested direction, that might not be the best one based on driving style and terrain. For optimum grip each driver should try both directions, in all four combinations front/rear.
Good info .. boss tq
You forgot to mention side pattern and reinforced sidewalls. Also important factor is depth of tread pattern. Best tread is that which is able to clean itself and don`t bury truck too much, on rock it deforms to adapt to shape of surface, but not deform too much and not grab at all.
Thank you for that.
For reinforced sidewalls, another approach is to use two stage foam with a stiffer inner foam. A lot of the great climbing tires seem to have really soft sidewalls since they don't know what weight vehicle it will be used for.
@@RCReviewChannel that is true, but i use RC as expedition trucks so most of time you need really supporting tire like RC4WD Trailbuster, because Pittbulls are too soft also with 2 stage foams . Also important factor is wide of tire thread, because this is main area where is contact. For example KLR A/T don`t have same wide as KLR M/T
Fingernail clippers work so well
What do you think about the super swamper proline 1.9? Are they good?
So in your opinion is the g8 good for regular crawling in every day used and the predator is more for competition use ? Is that correct?
You missed one important thing, the driver ;)
Have you reviewed the pitbull rock beast xor 1.9 (PB9014AK) before?
Could you suggest a 1.9'' tire and a 4ch radio for the axial scx10II kit.
Would it make sense to use one compound on the rear tires and another compound on the front tires?
Wheres the BoomRacing hustlers?
You forgot to mention some less "commercial" tires. But IMHO they are extremely good, Louise RC Griffin or Louise Rc Champ. They are cheaper and believe me... good the same as the one mentioned here!
Can you put 2.2's on a hpi venture or scx 10
Can you recommend tire & rims for Tamiya Pajero CC01
Just like the a real cars
Tyres is the most important thing
And brakes
What are the dots on the tires for?
How good is the bull 2.2 rtr moa
Thx for the vid my tires just got bald
I know this is an older review but what do you think the best tire is now
Super swamper Boggers are the best ones out there
No they are really not
I need a recommendation for my trx6. I don't know if I need 2.2 or 1.9 rims and I don't know what kind of tires
I have pitbull growlers and they don't look like nothing but I bought them to try and they are amazing
Exactly. We have a review of them in the channel.
What is your personal best wheel size Sir?
Have you tryed flat iron tires from proline yet wondering how good they are compared to hydrax tires
Better
I got some interco iroks from rc4wd but got the left side on backwards. They are still super grippy. Can you make a Video about rims maybe?
I have those exact same 1.9 tires x2 super soft sticky compound on my Trailwalker, they have tremendous bite , i highly recommend them
@@bigmanrctoys8484 they are exeptionaly good on Rock
For some reason most of the tires you like don't work well in wet terrain around me.
For some reason i would not be surprized if a dharma initiative logo would show up and it being a dharma orientation video. I get that vibe everytime i see one of your videos :)
rc meditation zen
Good channel!!sub
1:10 scale tires are more expensive than 1:1 scale tires.
Yes 😁👍 thats right
Not compared to the ones I put on my 1:1 scale Jeep they're not!
Depends what tyres. Because if you get crappy tyres for like a normal road car yes, but if you get aftermarket tyres for offroad or onroad no way rc tyres are more expensive. Think of like upgrade rc tyres as real life nitto trail graplers.
Huh? Falken AT3W tires are $200 each for my real Tacoma or 4Runner
What’s your thoughts on the first tax showdowns
Hi I need to ask something. I have a trx4 and the canyon trail 1.9 tires. I have some problems with them. They are too soft because i ride a lot at flat terrain. They are also asymetrical when i ride slow the car kind of jumps up and down. When i compared the tires with the spare tire it was tottaly different. The used tires were smaller, a lot smaller than the spare tire. So what do i do now, buy a new tires. I would really appreciate if you answer thanks.
Foams are bad. Put the truck on a stand will keep you from getting a flat spot in them from sitting that will help fix the hopping issue. Replace the foams with better ones will bring the size back.
Someone needs to compare the RC4WD IROK Super Swampers to Hyrax's or Landmines so we have an idea what they really can do. No one has done a comparison on these tires.
No you certainly don't want an interrupted knob! 🤣👍
ASMR tire squishing
You half such a relaxed soothing tone of voice
you should narrate an audible book or something 😂
Your actually so helpful with rc stuff tho thanks
I need some good tyres for my Land Rover Defender 9 tamiya... mines come stock
RCWORLD4x4 same
what was the tire that took the entire video to bounce back?
dart5722010 i think he said they were proline hydrax predator compound
With tires like iroks, mudslingers and the interco tsl boggers flip them for different terrains like for rocks have the tire so the tread pulls material to the center but for mud and sand flip it so it pushes material to the outside of the tread if that made sense
can you put a 2.2 tire on a 1.9 wheel ? What about the tire is 1.9" ? is it wheel / bead diameter? is it wheel width? Great videos, subbed with the bell! You're a great asset to me as I am just starting into crawling!
No. those numbers refer exactly to the wheel size and the inner diameter of the tire. So they have to match. Note that the outer diameter of the tires vary widely. Most common is 4.7 inches on a 1.9 wheel
@@RCReviewChannel ah ok so it's diameter. Makes sense. Thank you!
I'm Currently debating the Capra but most of my buddies seem to have TRX-4... It seems like the Capra is almost not in the same performance class so I'm almost wondering if it's more fair to get something comparable. Do you have any thoughts on that?
@RC CRAWLER HAVE You noted that in red cat Jen 7 stock tiers are placed in the opposite direction according to what you've said (and make sense)- how come they all so wrong
I’d disagree. A good servo is the most important thing. Can run stock tires, but your servo won’t last.
I'm 50/50 on that. My rc4wd d90 heritage has almost 300oz inch at 7v at 6v it's still like 250 stock so no need to upgrade. An axial yes completely agree same for trx4
It all depends on the crawler rigs weight, I only run ruffly $30.00 servos being none of my 1/10 scale crawler rigs are over 3 1/2 lbs. Geez, how many pounds are your rigs that you need that much power out of your steering servos? Its not a crawler like a built Clodbuster with huge tires & wheels is it?
I think you explained the tire direction wrong.
Look at tractor tires...profile is pushing the dirt or mud to the outside giving the tire the chance to dig into the dirt or mud to find grip.
Wrong way is to bring the dirt or mud to the middle grips ..that way the grips get filled up and you get like a slick tire and no grip or digging power at all.
Good point. In the real world, if muddy, you want the dirt/mud to get pushed out for self-cleaning.
In our experience though for crawlers and no mud, pushing the dirt into the middle works better... as long as it doesn't clog up with mud.
Answer.......the ones you have :)
Did I not see it or Could you do this with micro Crawler tires? 1/24 and smaller? Cause it's DEFINITELY different at that much smaller scale seems like everything I KNOW about 2.2 MOA comp MEANS NOTHIIIING with these little SCX24's and orlandoos 😩😭🤦
What is the best tire for a super Blackfoot for on the road I'm looking for a wider tire not a knobby tire please comment back thank you so very much
noise ?? lol aren't these for rc
