Glad to see someone else giving props to Injora on these inserts. I’ve tried the blue and the green sets now and they are awesome. You can NOT beat the performance at this price point. Awesome video man!
Great presentation Troy. I love how you always make a science experiment out of some of your product reviews. The biggest benefit to me for these gel inserts is that they keep the sidewall a bit more rigid than the foams and of course the lack of breakdown and deterioration you get from foams getting wet. I will be ordering a few set of the green and blues in the near future for my rigs! Thanks for the in depth review buddy! 😎👊🏼👍🏻🤗

just curious, which color silicones would u suggest for the redcat ascent, i thinking between green or blue. (I have brass wheels and portal covers so it adds a bit more weight up front). Also, do you think the injora superswampers ( proline g8 hyrax rippoffs) or the stock ascent tires are better for rock crawling?
A mix of blue in the front and green in the rear could be a great starting spot - but you will need to tune them to your exact tire and weight of the vehicle. I believe the stock Ascent tires are better than any of the Injora tires.
I live south of Phoenix in Arizona where it’s pretty damn hot. It doesn’t seem to make them softer, I have a very heavy, full metal TRX4. The blues were way too hard out of the box. I am from Oregon so I understand cold rainy weather. I can confirm these inserts do not change underneath heat. Not enough to avoid cutting all the ones you think necessary. 5 Star rating!
Injoras new brass heavy wheels are absolutely sick! I have a ton of injora stuff on my gen8. Shes a heavy girl. Everything ive been able to buy in brass I have on it, and then the rest is replaced with aluminum. I just finished it up by putting 2.25 oz of weight in each front tire with harbor freight 1/4 oz wheel weights. Takes 11 evenly spaced. Problem now, is that i do need something like this. The foams in my hyrax predator compound have had so much deflection on sidehills one tire actually came out of my beadlocks. Do you think there is enough flex in these inserts that I could put them around the inner beadlock ring plus about 1/4" for the weights? Or do you think they wouldn't fit, or grow to a way bigger size overall?
I have them they aren't big enough for proline hyrax 1.9's, but i just "shimmed" it out with thin upholstery foam, and its now really good. I have injora rims as well.
Great timing. I just ordered the blue ones last week. I was tempted to get the greens but decided to start with the blue. Im curious to see how they do when broken in and in warmer weather
I am interested in seeing the green ones now ! And another question do you have a link to the scales that you use to weigh your rigs thank you again for another great video !
Hi Kirby! The green ones should be at my house this week! They have upgraded the scales I use - now offer a bluetooth version: bit.ly/4b70ixE These scales have been worth EVERY PENNY for me.
For close to the same price you can get YZZR inserts which have over a year of testing and tuning to get them where there are today. They have helped keep me on the podium on the East coast no one has better sidewall stability 🤘
@@RoadsideRC for one each insert is custom fitted to the tire then the sidewall stability is top notch with the perfect amount of squish on the contact patch allowing the tire to function properly and not act like flat tire which is what we saw with most foams my opinion may be a tad biased as I helped test for the company from day one but I have been extremely critical and they made improvements using our results we also tested using 40 different tires of all sizes and brands and in every kind of weather and condition. Definitely put in the work to get the product where they are today and I highly recommend trying them out. The soft and super soft have been My go to on my competition rigs all around 5 pounds
I can’t remember if you have done it before but the yzzr inserts are good for a reasonable price like $35-$40 for a set and squid inserts are also around the $50 for the set. The ones that are extremely overpriced is the 3brc. I have a set of squids and 3brc inserts and i like the squids better. I might try the yzzr’s next.
@@RoadsideRC i understand that. I got the 3brc ones just to see what all the hype was and wasn’t impressed on how they are mainly made for PL tires and at $75 for a set plus tuning rounds and tuning rings . When i seen the squid inserts at $50 for the set so basically the same price as CI or PL dual stage i gave them a shot and don’t regret it one bit. Going on 1 1/2 years and the squid’s still preform like new.
I have a set of the green ones for my TRX-4, and they seem stiffer than the foams I had in my tire before. I'm not super familiar with foams and their weight ratings, but the greens seem perfect for me.
@@RoadsideRCI like how these liners give a rounded sidewall. My goal is to get more accurate steering, without losing forward grip. Its nice that my wheel rings aren't gonna get nearly as much rock damage because the correctly shaped sidewalls. Greens for stock ascent no brass. They do break in like regular foams, and cold does make them stiffer.
I bet the green ones will be what you want uncut. Sidewall deflection seemed to be zero, and it crawled over everything in the video without hesitation. Not sure what folks are complaining about, other than that complaining is the default setting for a lot of folks online.
I wonder if you stored your crawlers with tires on the ground; would that cause a permanent deformation of the antifoam? It would appear that it would not, but I'm still curious.
A friend of mine has a blue set and he says they're really good. Myself i use squid inserts on both my crawlers with vented wheels/tyres and they perform great
think the size thing is that is pushing the tires out and not leaving an air gap. like a 4.5 insert in a 4.75 tire.. you end up with the overly round top. instead of nice and square.
I have the Blue Ones in my Wife RGT EX86010-CJ (almost 4 quilos heavy) and whit the Louise CR Champ tires in wet (this tires are bad in wet) they performed amazing ❤❤
For my experiênce they are a Great deal!!! Here in Portugal i buy 4 Injora for €20,00 but if i whant a 3DPRINT i need to Import from UK or USA and 4 will cost €100 so...
Nice over view Troy. The thing I was wondering about these tire inserts, is the fact that they have the corners chamfered. Therefore not filling the tires I have been wondering about that. Although it doesnt seem to have too much of an effect on the run. Did you notice anything?
Great video, loved the in depth that you did, been waiting for this video,I have used your opinion quite a bit and have always been satisfied, as you said everyone is a little different in some way, they can be tuned by a snip here or there, which ones would you start with on a trx4, has 2speed and diff lock
Thanks Thomas! Does your TRX4 have any brass on it? I would be curious how it's weight compares to this Ascent. If it is a little heavier (which I assume it is) I would go with the blue inserts. I think those would probably work really well as-is. Easy link for you: amzn.to/4b2B7fZ
Hard to go wrong either way. I LOVE to 3D print things, so plan to do more of that for testing as well. Spool of TPU: $20-30. 4 pack of these: $20 It is a toss up.
There's another company that came out with the inserts like that but they're wider and they're on AliExpress is there a way I can send you a link to it because the ones I got there are 16 dollars for four and I have four different stiffness blue red green and pink
I like 24th's, but interesting vid all the same. ????- I wonder if there's an additional difference with venting between these and foams. With venting on the tread face, foams still let the tire 'inhale and exhale'. I wonder if the non-foams block the vent holes when punched on the tread face, being they aren't porous like foam. Might be a cool test to see the difference in venting tread face vs side wall vs ???. Thanks Troy. Enjoyed you're style of vid and relaxed personal manner. I'll check your channel for 1/24th stuff. Cheers Bert the Weldor
Hi Bert! So far, no issues with the venting. Seems at least 1 hole is always open. They recently released these same inserts in the 1.0" size. I am testing some now on my Ascent 18.
@@RoadsideRC Nice! I'll keep an eye out for it. I've got a DIY, no printing, no hi-tech idea for inserts that are pretty out of the box but easy for any 'no-budget' person to make. Just need to get to it and test.
Great Video I have the green in axial jeep and Capra they seem to work good the more you break them in the better they get now my 10# 15oz defender I have the blues there super firm on the sidewall seem ok on the tread but ran this morning on my course it did better with the foam, I switched trucks in 10 minutes a little frustrated, now later in the day I should have just broke them in more I think the next run on the big dog I just going to run the whole battery pack which I use 5200 2s ZEEs no matter hang ups or not! We get a 90-minute runs, what I am saying is I didn't give them a chance to break in I hope, green is great for up to 8# truck but the blues are supposed to be 7# to 12# truck from I understand so will see this week, but I did get hung up a lot in short time at the first 10-minute run AZ Ike OUT
I think there is a correlation with to much squish and lose of grip. you dont want the tire to deform and fold when moving you need the tire to bite and with those inserts the bite is harder then if it was softer.
The rollover with the foams is actually a good thing… that’s what the sidebiters on the sidewall are for. You are still getting good traction with the tread lugs on the sidewalls utilizing all the available tread on the contact patch. I have some 3D printers… but I’ll stick with foams. I think they wouldn’t hold up on a massive roller over. Would tumbling down a 10-20ft. hill rip up or break the plastic inserts on a heavy rig
Interesting thoughts! Let me take them one at a time. Sidewall: fun fact - I actually work in the 1:1 tire industry. I can 100% tell you with confidence that the sidewall is not there to accommodate rollover. With the way these tires are molded, it is similar in 1:10. Excessive rollover is never a good thing for traction. 3D printed durability: these Injora inserts are not 3D printed. They are molded from a very pliable material. There shouldn't be any durability issues. Also - as I showed in the video, I had 3D printed some inserts myself. It isn't from PLA or PETG. It is printed from TPU. These inserts have been through many miles (and many crashes) without any degradation. Don't over think this and hold yourself in a box! Go out there an experiment! If you already have a printer - then the file I used was free. Just buy some quality TPU material!
An interesting potential is wet performance. When the foams in my TRX4 get sopping wet from the river romp -- the whole rig get ALOT heavier naturally in a good loaction - - grip is improved, etc. It can be a doulbe edge sword though bogging down and eating batteries moving all that added weight. These presumably, like inflatables, would not suffer same issue as soaked foams.
From my experience, it’s worked better running a softer foam/anti foam in the front. My main truck is right at 5lbs and I’m running super soft anti foams in the front and soft in the rear, made by BAMF. I’ve also had really good success with 3BRC and SL3D squid inserts. I feel like the green injoras would be a good cheaper option in a lighter truck and if you spend a couple extra bucks you can get some customized inserts in the future if you want to upgrade.
Idk its all catch 22. I personally like my tires folding some cause it keeps the tires from sliding out and holds it in place better which leads into less chance of sliding into a gate. But with that I have to really learn what my truck roll point is. Not having the fold on side hilling does come with cons as well
When weighing those corner scales you should have installed all the same. Took the old foam and tires off because that's going to mess up your overall weight of the vehicle if you have two different types of tires on there and wheels
Since these silicone inserts seem to increase the OD of the tires when inserted, folks who compete in Scale 1 comps may want to use tires with a smaller OD than the max 4.2"/106mm permitted in that class, just to be sure these inserts don't push the OD beyond spec.
It really sucks but you are right for the money you can't go wrong and even if making yourself you just won't do it cheaper than China, ever. As far as unbiased videos I have always had a difficult time believing certain channels or people especially when they are directly compensated from those companies or sent free gear. They never seem to come up with anything negative to say about the product because they would 𝙎𝙏𝙊𝙋 getting anything from that company and others would hesitate to deal with them out of fear. Not saying that's you whatsoever just saying it's a thing..
Thanks! I have been part of multiple deals with companies. The good news - literally only 1-2 have ever pressured me to only say positive things. Actually, the more critical I am, usually the more appreciative they are! Seems the good ones really want the feedback.
I think the reason the first lot of snips didn’t work was that it was just sitting on the sniped parts, so if you remove the whole little piece it would work better.
It would be cool if they give you instructions on how to cut them to make them for a lighter truck I mean anybody can cut them, but if they had instructions on how to make it less stiffer for a lighter truck, that would be kind of cool
Interesting thought! With most of the super-soft crawler tires available today, the rims would be on the ground without anything in it. What tires do you run zero inserts in?

Do you think there is enough flex in these inserts that I could put them around the inner beadlock ring plus about 1/4" for the weights? Or do you think they wouldn't fit, or grow to a way bigger size overall?
I am honestly not sure they would fit. It is a tight fit just getting the normal beadlock center ring in there.
I have them they aren't big enough for proline hyrax 1.9's, but i just "shimmed" it out with thin upholstery foam, and its now really good. I have injora rims as well.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing.
Great timing. I just ordered the blue ones last week. I was tempted to get the greens but decided to start with the blue. Im curious to see how they do when broken in and in warmer weather
Agree! I will get some miles on these and see how they hold up!
I am interested in seeing the green ones now ! And another question do you have a link to the scales that you use to weigh your rigs thank you again for another great video !
Hi Kirby!
The green ones should be at my house this week!
They have upgraded the scales I use - now offer a bluetooth version: bit.ly/4b70ixE
These scales have been worth EVERY PENNY for me.
@@RoadsideRC thank you !
awesome testing, cant complain for the price
Yes! I agree 100%. Hard to not try them with the price.
Nice! What scale are you using? It looks like a fun bit of tech 🤙
Hi there!
It is an older version of this one: alnk.to/b7ysQ7W
For close to the same price you can get YZZR inserts which have over a year of testing and tuning to get them where there are today. They have helped keep me on the podium on the East coast no one has better sidewall stability 🤘
Thanks for the tip!
What do you think makes them better?
The price is always what has held me back. $20 for foams...$20 for these - and double that, at minimum, for the other options.
Nice! I have a set of green that should arrive this week!
Are they available in different od sizes or just the one from injora
So far, just one dimension. BUT - if they are popular, I can imagine more would be on their way.
@RoadsideRC I hope so they look like a good deal. I do run a smaller 1.9 on one rig and a fairly large 1.9 on a different one so it would help
I bet the green ones will be what you want uncut. Sidewall deflection seemed to be zero, and it crawled over everything in the video without hesitation. Not sure what folks are complaining about, other than that complaining is the default setting for a lot of folks online.
I have a set of green on order! Excited to try them!
I wonder if you stored your crawlers with tires on the ground; would that cause a permanent deformation of the antifoam? It would appear that it would not, but I'm still curious.
These have sat on my garage floor, in sub-freezing weather now....with zero issues.
È possibile montare gli inserti injora senza gli anelli centrali?
No. È necessario l'anello centrale affinché il tallone tenga il pneumatico.
Nice video! I bet it’s the cold that makes the plastic hard. You should have bought the green ones and have them as winter spec! 😅
I have green ones on the workbench now!
@@RoadsideRC interesting to see the outcome of a new test!
Thanks for this test 👍
My pleasure!
A friend of mine has a blue set and he says they're really good. Myself i use squid inserts on both my crawlers with vented wheels/tyres and they perform great
Nice! Glad you like them!
Since there is only 1 od size what is it?
It matches the 4.75" common tire size.
think the size thing is that is pushing the tires out and not leaving an air gap.
like a 4.5 insert in a 4.75 tire..
you end up with the overly round top. instead of nice and square.
Interesting! Most folks were complaining that these were too small....
Too big is easy enough to take care of. I'm not scared of modifying them!
Puedo hacer lo mismo para ruedas de carretera? En 1/10 . Busco que no inflen
Aún no los fabrican para ese tamaño de neumático. ¡Pero creo que funcionaría!
I have the Blue Ones in my Wife RGT EX86010-CJ (almost 4 quilos heavy) and whit the Louise CR Champ tires in wet (this tires are bad in wet) they performed amazing ❤❤
Awesome! Glad to hear it!
I watched that as well. Didn't seem to have an impact at all.
@RoadsideRC as always I appreciate your opinion, only mod is it has aluminum axles
Hi Troy nice video
I belive that I'll order soon an ascent.
Thanks! The Ascent is a really good truck!
So i have a 3d printer . Should i make my own or just pick up a pack?
Hard to go wrong either way.
I LOVE to 3D print things, so plan to do more of that for testing as well.
Spool of TPU: $20-30.
4 pack of these: $20
It is a toss up.
A spool of tpu could fit out multiple vehicles and let you tune the hardness through the number of walls.
I got 8 pairs! 4 blue 4 green. Blue on the front green on the back.
Nice! Makes sense to me.
I have more coming in the mail as well.
There's another company that came out with the inserts like that but they're wider and they're on AliExpress is there a way I can send you a link to it because the ones I got there are 16 dollars for four and I have four different stiffness blue red green and pink
I don't shop on there very often - thanks for the heads-up!
Cheers
Bert the Weldor
We get a 90-minute runs, what I am saying is I didn't give them a chance to break in I hope, green is great for up to 8# truck but the blues are supposed to be 7# to 12# truck from I understand so will see this week, but I did get hung up a lot in short time at the first 10-minute run AZ Ike OUT
Thanks for the feedback!
I think there is a correlation with to much squish and lose of grip. you dont want the tire to deform and fold when moving you need the tire to bite and with those inserts the bite is harder then if it was softer.
A balance is very important - I agree!
What about weight with a batty
Good question! I run a small 3S, so it has a small impact.
I need them so much for my scx24 build, I hope they make them
Agree! I hope they come out with more sizes.
Right on thank brotha!
What wheelset is this
Hi there! It is these: alnk.to/1N1RgYb
They are some of my favorite.
Good review 👍🏼 will get some for my cheap crawler 😅👌🏼
Thanks! I think they are a good choice!
@@RoadsideRC I may tell you how the blue ones perform in a few days . Thank you for your awesome content on your channel.😁
What is the name of the body you use there ? Nice video mate😊
This is the Redcat Ascent - it is the factory body.
That is correct!
They also take two battery packs to season the inserts I found sidehill is crazy good
Awesome! Thanks for the tips!
Interesting! Thanks for the feedback!
You can also use hair donuts
Great information 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
I was always dedicated to Crawler Innovation’s foams until I tried the SL3D squid inserts.
Nice! Thanks for the feedback.
They should get softer as you run them more. Also notice in the cold they do get really hard but work great indoors and in the 45° and up temps
Thanks for the tips!
Idk its all catch 22. I personally like my tires folding some cause it keeps the tires from sliding out and holds it in place better which leads into less chance of sliding into a gate. But with that I have to really learn what my truck roll point is. Not having the fold on side hilling does come with cons as well
Makes sense!
When weighing those corner scales you should have installed all the same. Took the old foam and tires off because that's going to mess up your overall weight of the vehicle if you have two different types of tires on there and wheels
Yes! Of course it will!
Love the info.
Glad it was helpful!
Since these silicone inserts seem to increase the OD of the tires when inserted, folks who compete in Scale 1 comps may want to use tires with a smaller OD than the max 4.2"/106mm permitted in that class, just to be sure these inserts don't push the OD beyond spec.
These inserts are only for 4.75" tires - not applicable for Class 1 tires at all.
My 108 (or 106 cant remember) its made for 118 tires🤔
Seems the good ones really want the feedback.
very good to know
Glad to help!
I think the reason the first lot of snips didn’t work was that it was just sitting on the sniped parts, so if you remove the whole little piece it would work better.
You might be right! I looked closely, most were folded over or missing each other, but maybe some impact.
Love the treal wheels
Me too!
@@RoadsideRCYou all have good taste
My blues are cut to match my 5 pound rig works great
Nice! Glad you like them!
And btw, they say toy should use like 108mm insert to 118 tire🤔
I have found a little gap between the insert and the tire seems fine. But not too much.
Your wheels are overall 27mm wide. That is why you have no issues with sliding inside.
Since this video, I have put the red in another set of wheels - also no issues.
Nothing works like a crawler innovation foams.💪🏻🤣😂🤣
I hear a lot about those!
Looks rock hard to me. Cheap isn't always the anwer.
Did you watch the video? They are tunable for the stiffness you want....and they offer a softer green spec if needed for your setup.
It takes 20 hours to print 4 of them. Not too bad but Injora ones are very nice.
I am happy with them!
Crawler innovations dual stage will never be beat by a printed foam….. ever.
Good news! These aren't printed! ;)
Injora makes great stuff for reasonable prices
I have had good luck with some of their products!
It would be cool if they give you instructions on how to cut them to make them for a lighter truck I mean anybody can cut them, but if they had instructions on how to make it less stiffer for a lighter truck, that would be kind of cool
Good idea!
I have them are good
I would just buy the greens instead of cutting them... IMO
You mean like this...ruclips.net/video/ajIwgZ6TroI/видео.html
:)
The green might not be the right choice either.
No insert is the best insert!
Interesting thought!
With most of the super-soft crawler tires available today, the rims would be on the ground without anything in it.
What tires do you run zero inserts in?
