My original "Project Pumpkin" that I built in the late 80's uses a Trinity Triad 10T 50,000 rpm motor, Sanyo "pushed" nicads, and a Novak T4 ESC to handle the power. I shimmed the gears, used a Thorp Dirt Burners Blackfoot steel hybrid Counter-Gear, Team CRP Adjustable Motor-Mount to use a higher pitch pinion, a Miracle Speedway Racing Products Gearcase Strengthening Kit, and a custom wheelie-bar. Without the wheelie-bar, I could backflip the truck in place! The rest of the truck is completely tricked-out and runs great to this day! I ran it mostly off-road, which is a lot more forgiving than pavement, but it has always been one of my favorite R/C vehicles.
I did same thing in a way! Approx same motor on a Novak something I can’t remember now. Ran the hornet pinion. At speed the front suspension collapsed and the pumpkin shattered into pieces! It was flipping for ever!
The wonderful mix of pain and joy as you roll it, but can’t stop hooning it about 😂 no one has the self control to keep it sensible with a modded lunchbox
Crazy fast.. see you don’t need a brushless in every set up. Probably the fastest LB I’ve seen. I’m with you on not wanting to damage the shell. I spend way too much time on them that’s why I paint two.. one to drool on and one to stretch some plastic!
I did the same. I finally bought mine on Friday or Saturday. It's fun enough, but the suspension is the worst I've seen on any R/C car, and I've never had an actual kit before, only cheap cars from Sears and Radio Shack. If you've bought yours, hopefully you've been able to upgrade the suspension because it's really bad. It even sounds cheap when the shocks bottom out.
I see what you meant about the 11t!!! Man that thing rips - I think I would keep to the grass if it were mine - that poor hard shell! Goes like a rocket, Glenn! Thumbs up my friend! :))
I had the Pidnight Pumpkin and I loved it the only thing bad was the hard body....always frustrated seeing all the scratches after a run....but so much fun these cars.

Takes me back, I’m digging my pumpkin out my mum and dads loft. Had a Parma cyclone 2 fitted and it was awesome back in the early 90’s- reckon a new ESC and new spec battery pack are calling !
Back in the late 80s I put a 14 turn Tony something in my Kyosho Javelin and it took it. I had the belt drive conversion and my only issue was melting the connectors on tamiya plugs. They couldn't take the power transfer. Battery lasted like 8 minutes. lol But it was fast and fun.

@@kenhollywood4990 that's the battery rating of a lipo battery versus a nickle metal hydride battery. Lipo batteries are rated in battery cells. 2 S means 2 battery cells giving 7.4 volts. 3 S means 3 battery cells giving 11.1 volts . You know it's like the difference between a standard Tamiya 7.2 volt versus a 8.4 volt hump pack like used in the Big Wig or some modern day Traxxas Slash when they use a 8.4 volt 7 cell. You can see through the Traxxas battery casing and see there is 7 battery cells soldered together in series to give 8.4 volts output. But nickle metal hydride is a waste if time these days. For maximum performance go with lipo. Just make sure to buy a quality battery and battery charger to monitor and look after your battery and always put the battery in storage mode when not using plus not to overcharge a battery as they can be touchy. But that's the case with all batteries. All batteries can explode if overcharged. Storage mode is just lowering the voltage to a safe level when not using for a few days or an extended time and it's vital with lipo batteries. If you discharge too low the battery may not take a charge again . Make sure to ask some questions from your hobby shop and get some advice if needed. There nothing wrong with getting good advice when venturing into new ideas.CHEERS MATE.👍👌
Funny to watch. But you need to do some upgrades to the chassis before putting in a fast motor like that. Ball bearing in gearbox would make it run smoother and quieter
Great Lunchbox, are you going to to any upgrades? There is a great upgrade for the steering on Shapeways.com, it will bring the steering into proper double wishbone with the cc01 modifications and you really should upgrade the shocks to the ones suggested in the instructions. Anyway, great video.
Yep don't try the brakes that only results in flipping the van over. But that happens with my Hornet too. I fitted a core RC 15 turn motor and full bearings plus a 2s lipo and some Louise phantom tyres and I haven't put a Speedo on yet but it's very quick. However every time almost that I used braking the car would roll onto its roof or its side. Best way was too have plenty of road and let speed wash off before very gently dabbing the brakes or not use the brakes at all and not hit full throttle position. Besides with a Hornet it was going really fast without trying for Max speed and the car didn't really handle so great. Too light in the front and crappy suspension all round and it pogo stick bounces . I was thinking of adding some weight to the front but realistically I reckon I will just go back to a Tamiya sport tuned 23 turn motor and that will be more than enough. Best of luck man👍💪
Hey Dude. I've just found your most excellent channel and subscribed. I have lots of modern cars and feel the need to have something different and older. I'm thinking Lunchbox, Pumpkin or Hornet. You've probably been asked a hundred times but which parts make a SuperHornet special? Thanks

Cool vid and review of the 11T! may I ask about long term: does Lunchy hold up to brushless power? My mate is telling me to go for 23T RZ rather than brushless for fear that the car cannot handle anything more? Any thoughts please?
Yeh I reckon you should go with the super stock RZ motor and that will be fine. Brushless motors are overrated anyway. My Super Hot Shot with a super stock RZ and 13 tooth pinion gear using full bearings and running a 2 S lipo nvision battery plus Louise phantom tyres and wheels gives me a speed of 27 mph which is 45 kmh. I reckon that can be improved on too. Like by removing some grease from the gearbox and differential as I put eat to much in when building. Plus the Super stock RZ motor has got adjustable timing. Some may argue otherwise and Tamiya may say otherwise but the end bell where it screws to the motor can has measured graduations / increments or timing numbers. So it's definitely adjustable. So is a Tamiya GT Tuned motor. The reason I used a 13 tooth pinion gear is because the Super stock RZ motor winds out to 27500 RPM and to take advantage of the power band but I think somewhere inbetween 13 tooth pinion to 15 tooth pinion gear will also lift top speed slightly more. So with brushless the timing is controlled on the ESC and not adjusted on the motor can itself. I'd say stick with a Super stock RZ motor or even a GT tuned Tamiya motor. You will be more than happy with the performance 👌💪
I realize you're probably keeping it as "Tamiya" as possible, but for top speed testing, why not use a racing style, non-reversing speed controller, low-loss connectors and direct solder the motor wires? These simple mods will improve efficiency (especially the ESC) and result in a noticeable increase in performance. If you go with a vintage ESC (Novak, Tekin, LRP, etc.), it'll remain period correct as well!

Hey Glenn, question. Got the lunchy kit coming from our friend the infamous elf. I’ve got a 21t Holmes hobbies motor. Do you think that’ll be too much, or will it be ok? Mr elf thinks it may be too much for it. I’m asking opinions on this. I’d like to do something more than the stock silver can but at the same time I don’t want it to be uncontrollable
Aarrrggghhhh.....that poor body!!! You did not want to scratch it but after seeing the car flipping over a couple of times I think you gonna need a new body!
Glenn, What was that ESC you were using? I have a few of these motors that I’m going to be putting in my egress, Avante, and vanquish, is it any good? Can you recommend a good ESC that will handle that motor with a fan and fit in the chassis?
NY ISLANDER313 At that time I was using a NewRain 320a ESC. But I’m on the lookout myself for something else after I blew the one I had 😭 Those motors run great my friend 😊👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends I have been pretty satisfied with the hobby wing 1060”s For all of my 23T Tamiya motors but it doesn’t go that low of a turn, since that motor is an 11 T
CMW Chris woodward Excellent 😊👊🏻 Tbh I always use the standard kit pinion, but you can buy a different motor mount cheap off eBay which will allow you to alter pinions 👊🏻
I have a mamba max brushless that I run in my Slash, its a 5700Kv motor I run on 3S, I have fans on the motor and changed the gearing. it spins around 63K and sends my slash down the road at 61 MPH, was clocked by a police man that was watching me and when he pulled me over (lights and all) he said he could get me for double the speed limit since I was in a residential neighborhood.... I grabbed my beer and said, you can get me for a DWI as well..... luckily he laughed......
For speed, I'd like to see someone make an aerodynamic lunchbox shell, which hugs the whole body and conceals the wheels, and has the cabin lowered too, as there's lots of dead space in the top of the shell.
TAMIYA Legends ok mate will have a look around Iv just finish lunch box and got he hang of controlling it do u have any ideas of a faster motor on the same esc I’m hooked and with you videos they help massive 💪🏽
TAMIYA Legends that’s a shame yes I’m running a fconegy 4000 mah 2s really pleased with running time and power , do u have any ideas what I could buy for a faster motor 👍🏽
CMW Chris woodward I think that speedo has a 27 turn limit from memory, so your really limited to what you can run 😞 You can use the Sports Tuned, but for the price it’s not going to make a massive difference. You could always buy a Hobbywing 1060 ESC, very cheap and run great, it also has a 13 turn motor limit. That would open up a ton of motors for you 👊🏻
I have the kyosho nikon 1/10 pajero evolution rally and i changed it with tamiya super motified motor but it does not yield as much as it should how i can i do what you did on video ?

our cars did that all the time back in the heady days when we were racing
Omg that’s fast 💨
Hey Glenn, question. Got the lunchy kit coming from our friend the infamous elf. I’ve got a 21t Holmes hobbies motor. Do you think that’ll be too much, or will it be ok? Mr elf thinks it may be too much for it. I’m asking opinions on this. I’d like to do something more than the stock silver can but at the same time I don’t want it to be uncontrollable
So did you ever strap your phone to the bumper? If so, what was the top speed?
What year was the LB re-released?
Dude I run my pumpkin on 3s..with a few mods😉...upsets a lot of people....🇬🇧👍😎
Haha excellent Mark 🤩👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends thanks for the reply 👍..just subscribed with you tonight, got some catch up to watch 🇬🇧😎
Hi can i ask what esc you used?
Aarrrggghhhh.....that poor body!!! You did not want to scratch it but after seeing the car flipping over a couple of times I think you gonna need a new body!
that thing is mental was that with a lipo? I am thinking about buying one of these for my lunchbox but with modifield front suspension and oil shocks
adrian harrison
That was actually using 7.2v Nimh 😊👊🏻
I have to try one of these, wonder if there is any way to use two in a clodbuster..
how fast did it go with this set up?
wayne johnson
Unfortunately I didn’t gps it, but I’d guess close to 30mph ish 🤷🏼♂️
@@TAMIYALegends nice one, ordered the tamiya 10.5t brushless and 2s lipo for mine. I think it will be a hand full.
Glenn, What was that ESC you were using? I have a few of these motors that I’m going to be putting in my egress, Avante, and vanquish, is it any good? Can you recommend a good ESC that will handle that motor with a fan and fit in the chassis?
NY ISLANDER313
At that time I was using a NewRain 320a ESC. But I’m on the lookout myself for something else after I blew the one I had 😭
Those motors run great my friend 😊👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends I have been pretty satisfied with the hobby wing 1060”s For all of my 23T Tamiya motors but it doesn’t go that low of a turn, since that motor is an 11 T
NY ISLANDER313
Have a look at the 1080, I think that might run it 🤔
Sorry I got that wrong it won’t run that motor 😬
Just picked up first lunch box whats the best tooth to fit on stock motor , good video for advice
CMW Chris woodward
Excellent 😊👊🏻
Tbh I always use the standard kit pinion, but you can buy a different motor mount cheap off eBay which will allow you to alter pinions 👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends thanks for your advice , can’t wait to get it built now , top man thanks again cracking video 💪🏽
Lunchbox is gonna grow wings lol
STEVO D 313
I think it was a bit much for her 😂👊🏻
Very cool❤ (top speed please😊
😊)
Hi I was thinking of pairing the lunchbox with a hornet pinion and the TBLM02S 10.5 T, would this work?
Verry nippy

Yeah I really liked this Brushed Motor buddy 🚗💨💨
Think I’m gonna dig mine out
swear i saw a vid of yours explaining not to adjust timings under load.....
thesmf1210
You definitely did buddy, that video came after this one 😬
I have a mamba max brushless that I run in my Slash, its a 5700Kv motor I run on 3S, I have fans on the motor and changed the gearing. it spins around 63K and sends my slash down the road at 61 MPH, was clocked by a police man that was watching me and when he pulled me over (lights and all) he said he could get me for double the speed limit since I was in a residential neighborhood.... I grabbed my beer and said, you can get me for a DWI as well.....
luckily he laughed......

Love it John 😂👊🏻
And that is one serious fast set up my friend 🚗💨💨💨
Thanks for watching buddy
Please tell me mate what exactly is in this! I want to do it to mine
Can i ask what's the make of the esc and where did you get it from
dustine puttaert
Hi,
It’s a New Rain 320A Brushed unlimited, does Nimh & LiPo’s. I got mine from Hong Kong, I believe there on eBay 👊🏻
"this is gaunnie be fun, This is gaunnie end in tears" Buwhahahaha!
According to my GPS my lunchbox ballraced does 12mph with the Silver Can and 16mph with the sports tuned both on Nimh.
Is it possible to find this motor
Could someone please tell me what esc that is I have an 11t yokomo motor
For speed, I'd like to see someone make an aerodynamic lunchbox shell, which hugs the whole body and conceals the wheels, and has the cabin lowered too, as there's lots of dead space in the top of the shell.
I have got a lunchbox but only put proper bearings in it so far, but i''d like to beef it up one day, just to see how much faster I can make it.
AWSOME
What motor is that mate will it work with a tble02 stock tamiya esc
CMW Chris woodward
Hi,
No unfortunately not buddy, you’ll need to get a unlimited Brushed ESC for this motor 👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends ok mate will have a look around Iv just finish lunch box and got he hang of controlling it do u have any ideas of a faster motor on the same esc I’m hooked and with you videos they help massive 💪🏽
CMW Chris woodward
That speedo doesn’t run many motors, are you using 2s Lipo batteries?
TAMIYA Legends that’s a shame yes I’m running a fconegy 4000 mah 2s really pleased with running time and power , do u have any ideas what I could buy for a faster motor 👍🏽
CMW Chris woodward
I think that speedo has a 27 turn limit from memory, so your really limited to what you can run 😞
You can use the Sports Tuned, but for the price it’s not going to make a massive difference. You could always buy a Hobbywing 1060 ESC, very cheap and run great, it also has a 13 turn motor limit. That would open up a ton of motors for you 👊🏻
dear god ................how fast do you want it ???? orbital trajectory by the sound of it . You can see the back tyres expanding like a fueller !
I had a clod buster growing up
Absima 8t is what you need
American police car?
Wolfgang Kovac
Canadian 🇨🇦
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
Could you provide a link for that Rain ESC?

I have the kyosho nikon 1/10 pajero evolution rally and i changed it with tamiya super motified motor but it does not yield as much as it should how i can i do what you did on video ?
Αγαπιος Χριστοφη
You need to advance the timing forward, but remember if you do that it will use your battery a lot quicker 😬
🤣🤣 not a. bashing video. takes it easy. first flip... well we are in it to win it hammer down.
Lmao good one 👍
HAHA that's crazy! :D
impossible to keep the (beautifull) body safe.... :) I have 1 lunch box and 1 midnight pumpin...scratched bodies!!!! :) regards from france.
👌👌
How to make a lunch box scream like a wounded animal . I backed off from the screen when you were bench testing and the tires ballooned.
