    This is my go to video for Lunch Box upgrades after buying my son one for his Christmas. I'll be doing all the upgrades recommended apart from changing the motor. Excellent video once again mate, well narrated and easy to follow. Appreciate all the effort that goes into these.

      I really appreciate that feedback. It took me a few weeks to put this together with continuous editing etc.
      I fancy trying the UKMonsters double wishbone with longer front shocks. I use 75mm at the moment.

    In 1990 I bought and ran a lunch box.
    Less than enamored with the handling I took the Lunchie body and wheels off. Then I proceeded to place said body and wheels on a gold pan RC10 with long travel oil shocks. Was a bit of a stadium truck/basher for back then.
    This solved all my problems.
    You have me fiending for another box!
    Thank you. That is all.

    It's really astonishing that you get a non-racing car so many upgrades. But as you said a big fan community around the world😁

    • @DustyFingersRC
      @DustyFingersRC  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the feedback. I have heard about the oven trick to unglue tyres but never tried that myself. Ovens can operate at different temperatures even when the dial says the same number so I didn't want to get in to that to be honest, especially as I don't have the experience of doing it. What if it melts the plastic wheels? Compared to elastic bands or double sided tape it is permanent so I tried keeping it simple. 👍🏼

    • @DustyFingersRC
      @DustyFingersRC  2 года назад +1

      Thinking about the crawler people, are their wheels metal? Is that why they are OK in an oven? Like I say, never done it myself. Thanks

    • @RCBirds
      @RCBirds 2 года назад +2

      @@DustyFingersRC they start to talk about when they want to put the stock tires on beadlocks. The stock rims are most plastic. I never had seen anyone compaining melting the rims in our Facebook group. Cooking in hot water is better than the oven. But be cautious when removing the tires, there's hot water in it. But for the first cooking better keep an eye on. For Traxxas it works but I don't know if Tamiya uses some other plastic.
      Super glue gonna be melted by water. If you got some time you can put them in cold water, too and wait a few weeks.😉. I learned it the hard way on one of my saiking boats. Luckely it didn't sink, but I had to renew every spot with epoxy.

    I bought my first LB in 1988 when I was a kid. I ordered my second LB just now! Your upgrade videos have been super informative and provided me a nice template for mods. So, thanks for that!
    I do have a question though. What 2S LiPo battery are you using? I'm considering units around 4000-5000 mAh and 35C-50C discharge. My concern is if I'll damage my ESC (HW 1080 G2 and 1060) and/or motor if the discharge (current) is too great.

    • @DustyFingersRC
      @DustyFingersRC  3 месяца назад

      I haven't moved over to Lipo yet. The comparison between 2S and NiMH is very little imo. I feel safer with NiMH and easier to store. I get loads of run time with 4500Mah batteries, easily enough for a long session. I also only run brushed motors so I am stuck in the good old days lol

    This video is a *must* for any Lunch Box owner! Fun, to the point. RUclips at his finest!
    If you don't mind, I have 2 specific questions :
    1) I have 4 CVA 50520 Tamiya shocks on the way. I would like to upgrade to a rear suspension brace so I don't have to marr them up each time I want to pop them off the ball joint. Would it be "ok" to use the Tamiya CVA one of the custom suspension mounting point of the rear suspension brace featured in your video (ebay) or should I go with the UKmonsters brace offering the original suspension mounting point as well as 3 others?
    2) What's your thoughts on aluminium wheels? I'm considering ordering a set from Ebay because the blue loctite I've applied on the nuts of the rear axcel eated at my OG plastic wheels O_O. I guess alu would prevent that from appening but the community seems to think alu wheels are more for show with zero adventage regarding unsprung weight, battery life and potential axcel bending.

    • @DustyFingersRC
      @DustyFingersRC  Год назад

      Hi. Thanks for the feedback. I haven't had a really close look at the UK Monsters rear shock mount but at a glance it seems the same principle as my alloy one from eBay but in carbon fibre. I found the length of the rod ends decides where you mount them but you could screw a ball joint in to the threaded bar and mount them there, then you can pop off the bottom of the shock instead of undoing a screw and bolt. In fact, this is exactly what I have done on a new one I built recently. (Stay tuned for that). No matter what you do though, the rear will always have a bounce to it unless you can design something like a 4-link suspension too much worry or effort is fruitless.

    • @DustyFingersRC
      @DustyFingersRC  Год назад

      In answer to the alloy wheels. They are great, really well made and add weight which helps lower the centre of gravity. I had a set but sold them on before using them as my plan changed forcing me to use different wheels with 12mm hex. So sorry but I have no first hand driving experience with them but a friend has and he loves them.
      If you use thread lock again, you can just put some on the end of the threads and let it go off a bit first. That will stop the risk of having too much on there and it coming in to contact with the plastic. Or, buy some PTFE rape. It is so cheap, no danger at all using that and will keep the nut secure. If you have a.look at my fairly recent video about an issue with alloy shocks, I use some in that video. 👍🏻

      Regards 1/10 wheels, never done that myself but with hex adapters I don't see why not. You would need to work out what length you would need but don't see why you can't. In fact, Tamiya has just released something new in this chassis with smaller wheels but as it is early morning I can't remember the name of it. Hold on and I will be back......

      58727 is the model number. Mitsubishi Pajero. You should be able to pick up those wheels but always worth checking the manual out online just see how they fit compared to the Lunchbox in case any other parts are different. Hope that helped.

      @@DustyFingersRC Thanks mate! 😊 do I think a brushless motor will run well on the lunch box?😁

    • @DustyFingersRC
      @DustyFingersRC  Год назад

      Plenty of people run brushless, I never have as I still using brushed motors. I like the control and a bit of speed but nothing uncontrollable if that makes sense. I once.put a sport.tuned motor in my Grasshopper and it went like a rocket but was too fast to have fun for me. We are all different and the only think to think about is how top heavy these LB's are. I drive mine on loose dirt, on road it would flip too easy and rip up the body shell. You could put a.lexan shell on and that would help.

    You forgot to paint the tyre writing white, to make it go faster? I've only added bearings so far, in my one, but I'd like better steering and see how fast I can make it. I'd like to see a lowered shell with aerodynamic skirting around the wheels and front.

      😂 I need to get on to that, what a massive oversight on my part 😳
      There was a speed challenge done for this chassis not too long ago. Should be able to find it easy enough, CW-01 speed run challenge I believe. Jack-'O-Trades did an awesome job modifying his and took the win but all involved seems to have a great time making them faster.

    My motor would not fit with its upgraded metal parts and 20kg of steering force so I installed it backwards and now the whole of the body leans to the side when I turn. it actually improved the turning circle a lot!. I'm still trying to find a motor that wont overheat. my sport tuned motor from Tamiya overheated and burned its cables after only 20 mins of use. so I'm going to get a better quality motor because I'm kind of tired of my standard motor and the sport tuned ones are know for overheating

    Could I use a Traxxas Titan motor on this? if so, would it end up being an upgrade?

    • @DustyFingersRC
      @DustyFingersRC  Год назад

      Stock is comes with a 27T 540 motor. I am not familiar with that Traxxas motor tbh. The gearbox is tough and people use a variety of motors in these but sorry I can't advise you on that particular motor. If it is a 540 sized motor then it would fit.

      This model takes 540 motors so I doubt it would fit. You can get cheap brushed motors like those shown in the video if that helps.

      A Lot of people got love for the Mad Bull. Personally, not for me. I did renovate one for a friend and improved the steering mechanism on it too but still wasn't a fan. Whatever puts a smile on your face though and plenty of people love them 👍🏻 I was probably let down by the fact the tires were old and didn't have much grip, a bit hard. The surface was loose dusty dirt too so not much grip in the first place.
