TAMIYA was the gateway for so many in this hobby. There isn't really anything particularly special about them, but you just can't help but to absolutely love them. I think it has a lot to do with building them DIY. That makes you love it when it's finished.
@@TomleyRC Really looking forward to that. I just got back into RC in July, yes I admit it's a bit of a midlife crisis thing at 50 and yes, I bought a Tamiya. Because the love and vibe is definitely still there, even 30+ years after I last owned one, it's still there. Tamiya will have a special place in my heart until I die.
I was over in the UK visiting family and my cousin worked at Beatties. He took me to a carpet race in Sheffield and I remember he ran a shop demo Avante ( no paint - just decals), and I saw my first Kyosho Turbo Optima. I was hooked! Still have some snaps from that day. Excellent job on the content!
Hey Tim Alexander valdemir kowaliuk here, I haven't watched in a while I was busy with the presidential election but we won so that's done now. This particular car is very nice and the tires going street was amazingly good idea , I'd love to have one .
I always liked the Avante, I have one that I haven’t built yet. Your idea of a street Avante is pretty cool. With that low front suspension, it is probably better on pavement or carpet than dirt anyway. I will probably not shine my bits though.
Great build. Really enjoyed watching the process including the hurdles with all the the springs, wheels etc. Looking forward to watching your next one.

Beautiful build. For some reason I always struggle with tires and rims. Totally understandable. You really did a great job on the final selection. The deep dish mags look perfect on this car.
I had my first Avante around 91. At one point I had 3 just to try to keep one operable. I ended up selling them all to someone in Japan. It was an amazing car but far to fragile so I'm liking your idea of making it a street car.
Wow Phil, you are a man after my own heart. That is a work of art. ❤ Ive been wanting one of these ever since i first saw it, and had the same idea you had as to the design i would do. Absolutly gorgeous. One of these days when i can addord one, i am going to do something very very similar. Awsome job as always Phil! 👏
I'm a recent Tamiya convert.!! I've been into RC for about 5 years & own 60ish RCs from most manufacturers but no Tamiya cars.! I didn't think much of them, despite never actually trying one... I remembered them being looked down upon as a kid in the 80s. I fell for the negative propaganda about them breaking all the time & the plastic gears stripping too easily. I've got 6 Tamiya RCs now, all brushless & they're taking it like a champ.! I've been running my TT-01E MAN truck for about 18 months on a 3S brushless system & the diffs & spur are barely worn.! It drives so well too. I just got myself a barely used TT-02 Type S this week, fitted a Hobbywing 3S brushless system, tuned the shocks & diffs & it's wonderful.!!! 👍 👍 👍 There are sooooo many to choose from... I'm like a kid in a sweet shop since getting into them.. I want them all.!! 😁😁😁
Yes… I’ve put some crazy power through many different ones.. people always say ‘you’ll destroy it’ when in fact they are really tough! (As long as you build them properly 😅)
@@TomleyRC Exactly that. I have a TT02 build with a china 6900kv motor. 28 pinion and a modified 55 spur from the TT01. Hobbywing esc and alu steering rack. And a lot of shims to get rid of ALL play. Runs absolutely straight and 105 km/h on 2s. Like your channel. Greets from a dutch guy living in germany . I have a Video of it on my channel
Same here. If it was not Losi, HPI Kyosho or Traxxas it was not good. Tamiya was nowhere to be seen except one hobby shop had a few (2007 -2010) After watching Phil and a few other Euro hobbyist. I finally wanted to see why everyone had them or used to have them. For the most part they are a cheap way into the hobby or at least to get the kit itself and then go from there. Their plastic looks like cheaper plastics do but certainly are not the same. They are more fun than anticipated and I own several now. I blame Phil.😄
@@kevincain6843 me too, I wanted to know what all the fuss was about after seeing so many channels dedicated to Tamiya.! I now know.! 😁😁 Also, how gorgeous are Tamiya bodyshells.? They're among the best 1/10 touring/rally car bodies I've ever come across, way better than HPI.!

Love watching your builds, love the option to win them too!! I entered this one as well, one of these days I'm gunna win one of your beasts, and it's going to be a highlight of my collection!! Keep up the great work, slick build!!
Back in the days when I did do some buggy racing, the Avante came out at some point. People said, it was bad as a buggy but the (official) races we did were on concrete. There the Avante was an absolute weapon because it was actually more a road car than a buggy... We all wanted one back then... Hardly anyone could afford them
@TomleyRC I'd have been 7yo lol.... I remember thinking it was a Technological Marvel... The black version is a bit sweet too!.. Like what you did with the road kit and the chrome too... If I'm not lucky enough to win the Raffle?..... I might have to blow the cobwebs off my wallet...... Maybe.
Aesthetically Tamiya still has the most options and best looking vehicles to date. Just wish some of these kits were 1/8, especially the rwd since nobody has that available.
Growing up poor, we had nothing. Every time we went to the mall, I would always stare at the Tamiya Avante. It was 1988, and I was only eight years old. I wished my parents could afford it. I really wanted one back then and would spend most of my afternoons gazing at it in the window display.
Love the build and it looks stunning, it wouldn't be afun hobby if everything went smoothly, that buggy looks on another level, I quite new to the hobby so maraschino and learning, absolutely love all your videos, I'm even watching all the old ones 👌
Hey Phil, love all of your stuff. Can’t wait for your next videos to come out. really like your choice and song in the first part of your video. By the way, saw the blue supra in the back. I hope you build that soon one of my favorite cars besides the Volkswagen rallye golf.
Tamiya has always been weird to me. I love them but their pricing is so strange, they'll charge $170 for a great buggy like the boomerang, but then for something of similar quality they'll charge more than double that, like the super hotshot
Kin ell Phil !!! - great build dude , absolutely brilliant - Those rims 👌 shame about the lack of black rubbery things 🛞.......🤷 & that smoked cockpit ...........👏👏👏👏when you got that dialled in , it was sweeeeeet - 50+ on a 2 cell out the box 😎

Nice build ! Was skeptical on the chrome thing, but looks agressive and classy in the end 👍 I shed a very little tear on how you direspectfully opened the blister pack of the most iconic RC ever 😢😅 Then, a 5.5t HW in it, respect on this one. Who said Tamiya can't handle power ? 😊 Well done ✌🤝

14:23 => I had the same crunch yesterday in my Egress which has the same gearbox. The 3 long screws which are positioned in a triangle should be tightened 100% - the last 5% by hand. Building a kit like this from scratch when you're young, or young at heart is a fantastic way to understand how it works as a completed machine.
