When I was growing up, the rich kids had these cars. I missed out because we couldn’t afford it. Now I have the top 6 classics and nothing will beat the Nostalgic feeling, a feeling which cannot be replaced by new cars.
Totally agree. I remember visiting Beatties in the UK and they had loads of these. I wanted one so bad but my parents would never buy me one. Roll on forty years I’m gonna get me one.
There were only a handful of kids on the tiny Army base I grew up on. The moment I bought myself a Grasshopper, with hard-earned porch-sweeping cash, (I was 8, and not trusted with a lawn mower lol), the Colonel's kid, Lee, was given an RC-10, and wiped my little buggy clean on the makeshift track we had built. Seeing this, some of the local Atusa's (Korean Army soldiers), took it upon themselves to make my Grasshopper a rocket ship, donating a 540 motor and electronic ESC from Novak, and taught me how to drive the _right_ way. I wish I could pay those guys back, for one of my fondest memories. Lee, if you're reading this, I'm flipping you off, lol
I saved my paper round money for months to buy one of these in the early 90's. I'm 40 now and have just bought one for me and my son to build as a project. Just looking at it brings back memories

87’ I was 11. This was the RC Car to have!!!! Didn’t get my first Rc until 16. Had to work an entire summer at McDonalds to get the Futaba FX10 with an Airtronics 2channel. Never forget seeing this in magazines!!!!
In ‘87 I was 6 and a neighbor (adult) had one of these and would always race me on my bike up and down our road and I absolutely loved it! I always wanted one. Oddly enough, my first hobby grade rc was also the Futaba FX10 which I bought from my buddy at 11 years old, on my golden birthday, for $110 of hard earned chore money!! I still have it hanging on my wall and am in the process of building a second one which I bought years ago so I had a backup chassis. Those old brittle plastics back in the day didn’t stand a chance to the abuse I put them through!!
The Lunchbox is just FUN...! From it's bouncy "don't take me seriously" ride & handling manners, to the way you can carry it by it's front bumper--like a lunchbox!--down to the truly "entry level" low cost for a DIY kit-build version, it's more hot-dogging fun than a frankfurter on a nice summer day... for kids AND adults!😁
The Lunchbox is one among many classic R/C vehicles, I grew up wishing I could get. I saved up my money as a kid (it took me 6 months!) To finally get my dream truck: the "Midnight Pumpkin". Back then, you had to assemble the entire vehicle, and that makes the whole process more enjoyable, as it creates anticipation, pride in your build, and attention to detail. Most people I saw who got the Midnight Pumpkin, painted it black, like the box art. I painted mine a pearl white, and painted the wheels a light blue, to match the blue flame hood decals! It turned out gorgeous! I got a lot of compliments on it. I don't know if the kits are still the same, but one of the things I really liked about the Midnight Pumpkin was that the body was not msde of the flimsy, clear plastic bodys. While the clear plastic ones were extremely light, they were also very easily damaged, scuffed, or otherwise destroyed. The Midnight Pumpkin's body was a hard, thick and rugged plastic that could take a beating. As much as I loved the paint job I had done on my Pumpkin, she was no "hanger queen". I put her through the ringer and had a blast the entire time I owned her! She got some battle damage over the years, but I think her scars made her even more beautiful! I loved that truck.
Thank you for sharing your story Jeremiah, you’ll be happy to know its still got the hard body, here’s a link in case you’d like to relive those moments! amzn.to/3Ws2Hy5
@@rexrcs Thanks! However, I've been dreaming about "the one that got away". The Tamiya "Bruiser". Real metal gears with selectable high/low range. What a gorgeous truck, it was ridiculously expensive back then, and the re-release holds true. When I checked a year or two ago, it was $695. I could swing that now, but I keep wondering if I'd just let it sit on the shelf. We'll see.
I got one for Christmas when I was 12 years old. If you superglue the holes in the wheels it will actually float in water. A few years later I purchased an Associated RC10 1/10 scale 2wd buggy and started racing. After that I went to a Losi XX buggy. Those were fun times and definitely a lot cheaper than the big toys I build today.
I have one, I want about 4 more!!! I want to do the Mystery Machine, the A-Team van and the Dumb and Dumber Mutt's Cuts van and of course the black edition one... they are a blast to drive around and I completely agree you are instantly 10years old again! Glad you got one and welcome to the Lunchbox club!
dooooooood, thats such a cool idea! Ateam and mystery machine Id love on an M chassis, the mutt from dumb and dumber would be SWEEEEET flopping its ears up and down on a lunchbox !HAHAHAHAHAHA I saw Tank rc run his Vaterra twin hammer with puppy ears its funny lol
What an outstanding review! I got back into rc cars a couple years ago and remembered how it felt to be a kid again. I have newer rc cars but recently drug my original Blackfoot out of the attic from 1986 and there’s just something special about that era of rc cars and trucks!
As my profile picture suggests, I love the Lunch Box! It's just a fun toy to play with as RC should be. It's reliable and durable as well! It also shared a lot of parts with other Tamiya models so parts are easy to come by even when vintage
I think its about time you stopped trying to convince yourself that the Lunchbox is a good car, it wasn't even good back in the day so it certainly isn't good now, stop living in the past and get a grip on the now, everything moves on my friend, you also need to move with the times otherwise you'll be one of those boring old farts that always talk about the good old days , that stuff is all in the mind buddy, now please will you put this Lunchbox to bed once and gor all.
@@thehomefront1905lmao, I've got an X01 to go fast, a T-Maxx to bash, and a Lunchbox to have fun. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean other people aren't having fun with it! There's something special about being able to appreciate where we used to be, while also enjoying where we are now, the two aren't mutually exclusive. How about living your life, and let others live theirs, because all your negativity is in your head. Now please will you go an have fun, once and for all :)
I was 9 when these first came out. I remember a teen had one and he brought it to the playground at school. I wanted one ever since. Finally got one this year. I just put a Clodbuster together. Another fun truck. Great video, I enjoyed it a lot.
How old are the kids? my 5 and 7 yr old love to watch for a bit, but they dont like driving the toy like ones, my kids have told me they "like the ones that look real" and my daughter specifaclly said to me "I dont like when the wheels stick out" lol, this is the next generation I guess, but Im sure as they age they will begin to appreciate what came before them, just as most of us do. my son doesnt drive his clod much I think due to the hard to handle steering, but hes asked for a freestyle force grave digger so thats a step in the right direction. my daughter enjoys her barbie car, so I have to soon find a way to hobbify her toy grade barbie corvette. thanks for the conversation starter
@@rexrcs boys 7 and 9 here, they like it competitive on the small track in the back of the garden so they want fast 4wd cars, but I guess that's just what I steer them to. And then for general bashing this is their order of preference: new car > fast car > big car > the rest. They certainly don't like cars that are hard to handle like 2wd or wheelie machines.
@@soma_rc bwahahahaha "new car" made me laugh out loud for real.. yup...these damn spoiled kids of ours, my kids are exactly the same in that order, however i keep handing them the remote for a few minutes at a time and they are showing clear sign of progress when it comes to hand eye coorindation
Yep, nailed it. That is exactly what this RC car is. It is easily the worst quality car I own, but it puts a smile on my face everytime! As you say, I feel like a 10 year old kid when I drive it and that's pretty awesome
Definitely cool. A real handful to drive too which is part of the fun. It magically seems to be more stable off road than the Hornet and Grasshopper which are half as tall, though. I guess the big tires soak up some of the bumps because it will go over some stuff like gravel just fine whereas a Hopper will sometimes take off and land facing a different direction or just traction roll. It's in just the right place between good and bad IMO. I love Hornet and Grasshopper but I find they can lack versatility on some surfaces where the Lunchbox will happily keep going. I love them stock but I have a highly modified one too with DT02 front suspension and 4-link at the rear. A bit pointless maybe but this hobby is about having fun and I really enjoyed making it handle better, it was satisfying. And me heavily modding one doesn't prevent people having fun with stock ones so it's win/win. Will always be one of the coolest looking RCs ever made, too.
Valley! whats up! thanks for the conversation, we need more of these. you hit the nail right on the head, I actually wanted to discuss more about the hornet to lunchbox experience I had, but I decided to make that possibly a seperate video MAYBE, I was not expecting much from the lunchbox after having high hopes for the hornet, and then I experiencing what I did, which was not very impressive, and fun only because of the very same reason that makes driving the hornet daunting to me. EXACTLY as you said, the hornet on almost all surfaces that arent flat, will randomly pick itself up and end up in a totally different and unprovoked position. given that experience it made me have even less desire to open the lunchbox, however I think you are also on the money regarding the tires, the bumps that it must be soaking up and dampening when it hops has to be the reason it is night and day from the hornet? what do you think? I orginally was under the impression that the solid axle rear would be great fun in the sand, however the hornet in my opinion, in its form that i have it, is terrible and I do plan to fix that and make it aceptable to myself eventually. I think I love the lunchbox, but I sadly do not love my hornet.....yet
@@rexrcs I like to drive my Grasshopper on the sand but only if it's smooth sand, otherwise it just loses composure. It's pretty good on short grass and very smooth tarmac but anything other than perfectly smooth and it will tend to start rolling. If the rear end steps out just a little, it will tumble over itself most of the time, rather than the rear end sliding. For some reason, the Lunchbox just seems a little more stable and versatile. I resisted getting one for ages because people told me to expect the same experience as the hopper but it's definitely a better all rounder in my experience.
@@rexrcs I dunno about the tyres, my Grasshopper has the stock paddle type and it still seems to bite and want to roll really easily. Just something about that chasis. Maybe too much grip and too little weight? This video for example at about 8:40 shows just how prone to tipping they can be. A slight swerve and it still tries to go over lol ruclips.net/video/uTr8sMNP1JA/видео.html
Dang it! Now I want a Lunchbox! I remember these trucks when I was growing up. They looked cool, but I went the JRX-T and still have it today... well, what's left of it anyways. Thanks for the time travel, it allowed me to relive some of those memories again. Life was so much simpler back then.
I have the black version, it’s fun, it’s very basic and likes to wheelie and roll over, the steering linkage piece on the steering Servo breaks a lot, but it’s still fun to drive, Just don’t put too fast of a motor in it because it makes it impossible to drive
Great video and glad you enjoyed it! I wanted one when I was a kid and recently picked one up for my Daughter. We love it and I have just started building a pumpkin for me! Fun times ahead!!
I didnt care for either until i made this video! now I want another one! I saw you video talking about the pumpkin! I hope you and your daughter get to have fun before the cold settles in!
It’s a great starter kit doesn’t look comical at all looks freaking awesome. You have a different style . It’s just a great starter RC hobby grade starter.
Awesome video man. Almost every day-off I have when the weather is nice, I pack up my e-revo and longboard and hit the park. My first RC was a monster truck Nikko car at 9 years old. Since then, the hobby has stuck. I could say my parents burdened me with a pricy and expensive hobby, but to be honest, they cherished me with countless memories and helping me feel like a kid at times, ripping these things around as an adult, I get the same feeling I had as a kid. This video definitely hit it on the head. Keep it up brotha
Thanks for sharing! sounds like your parents gave you the gift of STEM at an early age, I appreciate you stopping by to chat! and It makes me happy to hear this hit home for you. cheers!
I love a Lunchbox, but I love a modded Lunchbox more, if I can only add one after market item, it would be the Chassis brace, it is like night and day. Great video as ever 👍
Mr clevercunning! nice to see you! I have been looking at options for that mod, and I appreciate you advising me that its your 1st choice, I think I may try what Pete Wylie did to his and add a fifth shock, not sure yet. thank you for the comment, it uplifts more than you think
Chassis brace really makes that much difference?! Surprises me. Is that different to the axle brace ? I have the AMPRO axle brace, it stops that torque slap.
@@RichardNutman Yes when I say Chassis Brace, I do not mean the stiffening rod, I mean as you say the axle brace, but they are also called the Gearbox brace, it would be easier if it had just one name 😂
I raced seriously during the mid to late 80's i saw the tamiya big wheeled rc, though they are not performance buggies, everybody loved them big wheeled tamiyas, they won't get easily tangled on grass, unlike buggies, great bashers
When I was 10, my uncle and I used to do so much together! He'd take me to Toy's R Us and we'd buy nerf guns and have a war in the car park, he'd take me fishing in the very early hours of the morning and we'd catch massive carp and take photos of us holding them. We'd go to the woods and fly rc airplanes, helicopters and drones around. But by far my favourite thing was when we went to the massive field with a skate park and drive around his rc cars! He had a fair few of them that he had built and he used to let me have goes on them! He had this big rc open wheel race car which was insanely fast and skiddy, a smaller one that ran on petrol which went at least 30mph, but by far my absolute favourite one he had was the Lunchbox. At the time, it was just plain white without the wheelie bar, but I loved it more than the others because of how beefy and crazy it was to drive around! I remember the day my uncle bought himself a bigger, more monstrous rc truck, and he gifted me the lunchbox! I was ECSTATIC! He'd painted it and attached the wheelie bar, I was all set to have the time of my life with it! I played with to for a good couple of years, but one day I took it too far and one of the wheels fully broke. By that point there was no fixing or replacing the damages, I was heartbroken. I recently was cleaning out my bedroom and I found the old broken down Lunchbox in a box under my bed. I remembered all the amazing memories and decided I needed to relive them. I went on amazon at 4am in the morning and bought a Lunchbox kit that arrives this Monday, and I cannot tell you how excited I am to finally play with it again!
Wow what a heart warming story and thank you for sharing! Maybe we could help you fix your original lunchbox. I hope you used me amazon link for the lunchbox make it a great day!
@@rexrcs I just finished fully building it today, what fun it was! Regarding the original one I have, for now I reckon I'll keep it around for spare parts, as I've already snapped a screw in one of the little ball joints for the servo arms 😂 Thankyou so much for reading my story, I appreciate it very much!
Hey Terence! Im glad you kept me company on the journey! It does not handle bad at all….when the front wheels are on the ground lol, seriously it actually doesnt have an issue bombing around with full intent on being drivable, some other comments mentioned what I think to be true, the tires in this case really really help it absorb shock, and therefore keeps the back end from bouncing uncontrollably, I think
@@rexrcs Yes I did because of a childhood goal of mine. We just received the 2nd body for it and will be purchasing Tamiya PS23 or PS16 for the 2nd body.
Late to the party, I know... But to contribute, I just want to say that my favorite part of this kit, and any Tamiya kit, is the building experience. Especially as a kid, with Dad's tools in hand and my feet dangling from our too-tall kitchen chairs, I felt like Oppenheimer putting together a world-changing device, something the masses would never understand. Since I paid for my first Tamiya, a Grasshopper, with my own hard earned Won (born in Korea), I took special care to get everything right, the box art my inspiration while I carefully tightened every Phillips head with my child's hands. If I could have as much fun doing what the driver of the box art Grasshopper was having, my investment would be realized. Boy, I was not wrong! Now an adult with some spending cash, I'm able to go back to my beloved Tamiya models and build them the way I want, with FPV cameras, flight controllers and LEDs, but it's still all about the build - crank the chair all the way up and let those feet dangle!
Hi there, awesome! The lunchbox lifted its skirt and off it went! The bouncy nature and the unique nature of such a great RC, brings a great big smile to your face! Fun is what it’s all about! Great video. Take care, keep well and all the best 😊😉😊
Congrats on entering a fun world! The linch box is a classic “fun” incapable toy that will bring loads of silly laughs, and building it allows a dynamic level you just dont get with ready to run vehicles. Radio? Depends, if youre looking for long term Id suggest a medium to high end radio that will allow you to further adjust future vehicles. However if we want to keep it simple I’d just get a $40-$80 radio for this one first time rc.
My all time favorite RC, miss my old one, had it from age 8 to like 13 or something =) Painted my`n blue, looked SO good =) It handles even better if you glue some fishing weights at each corner in the chasie, gives it less bounce and more control =)
how many body mounts have you broken, when i was 13 i had one of these and a never ending source off annoyance was the body mounts they were made out of the same fragile plastic and the grill and side pipe on the body are made of, they were forever snapping what was more annoying was when you bought the replacement you had to buy the whole chrome body kit
I have read about that common issue, luckily I didnt break any while playing with it but I didnt do much extreme driving with it, just blasting across flat lands and hopping curbs lol
Hi, I just watched a Monster Truck video and remembered the RC Cars I had when I was a kid, I had Lunchbox, which brought me to your video, I also had Bigfoot too, this was a long time ago, I haven’t owned or even had a go with the RC Cars that are around now, They are so much better now, but Back then I thought I had the best that there could ever be, Like I said, the RC Cars now are awesome.
I appreciate your comment, I never thought a video I made would reach anybody outside the rc community thank you 🙌 the rc car then are just as awesome if not MORE awesome, without the rc’s then, we wouldn’t have the rc’s now
I don’t think anybody just likes the Tamaya lunch box they love it that’s why it’s one of the longest running platforms out there that has been selling an out selling many other brands models for years myself I am a Van Guy love all vans and station wagons by have not gotten my hands on one of these yet eventually I would like to build an ice white version or get the stickers to make it the ambulance from cannonball run II I would love to build a lunchbox totally upgraded aluminum everything but until I can get to that I am trying to upgrade everything and anything that I can on my Kyosho Mad Van VE which doesn’t take away the love for the lunchbox but definitely gives it a run for the money especially stock write out the box average speed for the Kyosho mad van ve is about 40 miles an hour just food for thought.
SUBLUNACY! one of my biggest and favourite commenters! everytime you comment, you add much value! I hope it lives up to expectations of lunchbox owners !
Are there 2 versions of the rc im not that good on rc's. My uncle bought one yesterday and when i looked it up on the internet it told me that it was realesed in 1987 *not sure* and they stopped selling it in 1995. It actually doesn't work it won't pair to the controller idk why it just keeps beeping
hi! congrats in the new rc! there are three versions of this lunchbox that I know of, a kit form, a ready ti run form, and a semi assembled version. without knowing what your setup is, it will be hard to know your issue, but if youre willing buy a new solution, a modern controller and receiver system goes for about $80 canadian nowadays, or much less from amazon. they did stop selling the lunchbox, but later reintroduced it as a re release
I bought the xsa version now I’m hooked on rc want a super hotshot and got an ftx brushless buggy, needed to glue the servo knuckles etc in as kept coming loose v annoying on the lunchbox
Awesome video Rex!!! I never liked those back in the 80's, but now, I find those trucks a bit intriguing (The Lunchbox & Midnight Pumpkin). I never owned one but my wife wants the Midnight Pumpkin, now I think I might join her!!!
Bob! my wife enjoys watching my farm king run around because she says its super cute bombing across bumpy surfaces, I made the mistake of getting her a fire dragon and she couldnt care less for it, she wants more toy like enjoyment go figure. when her and I use to rc back when we dated, she was an excellent nitro 1/8 buggy driver, but here she is, telling me she likes the cute ones lol. Id say to go ahead and grab those kits for you and your wife! as you can see even 20 years later you can sell them for almost what you paid, its like a piggy bank you can play with and learn from and share!
Great video, I highly recommend the lunch box, every time I drive mine I like it more, I've got some videos on my channel! I also didn't want to scratch it at first but it's got it's first scratch from rolling after jumps in yesterday vid 😂
yes they did, I very much loved seeing nikko and tyco, but those were not often sold at radio shack, those were in big box stores and we went to those like once a year when i was a kid
Thanks ck, I now understand a lot more about the lunchbox, glad I opened the box, I have to say the hornet gave me bad presumptions about the solid axle tamiya but glad I now see the diffference. with winter coming I hope I get to see maybe a scale boat being built?
Thanks for clearing that up, I had to go back and find what you were talking about 😅 something about the wire being pressed against a hot motor didnt sit right with me.
As a boy back in the day my uncle had one of these. He didn't let me use it. Now I'm 43 and I got one, I showed it to my uncle and told him he can kiss my ass now. We both had a laugh
I love these lowly Tamiyas because they're low performance. So low that I don't expect anything, except that they work and hopefully don't break. Since I don't expect anything, I'm pleased with what they do, and I can relax and (gasp) have fun. High performance = high expectations, and when those expectations aren't met, high stress. Relax, drive a Tamiya, have some joy in your life again.
dude, that is exactly it! especially now that Ive been going to the track with faster and faster cars, Im getting stressed, as fun as it is to bring a fully adjustable car to the race track, its more fun to just play without worrying about suspension settings or tire temperatures, you'll see, Ive got a farm king video coming
They are very reasonably prices these days at $150canadian but if youre new to rc you’ll also need the radio system, speed controller and servo. Good think radio systems are a one time purchase
yes for sure, very different, I quite enjoy my other extreme rc's as well but there's something about being able to clearly see the subtle movements a slower less capable rc does, keeps it simple and brings me back to when I didn't have bills to pay lol
Kind of odd to even mention Arrma. As far as durability, the Lunchbox is extremely durable and doesn't even require maintenance if you install ball bearings. The only thing i ever broke on that thing were the plastic body mounts.
I was very very surprised at the acceleration, it does top out fast, but its quite fast enough and it handles bumps like a dream compared to its buggy sisters and brothers
I love my Lunchbox Rex. Actually, I love all of 45 Creations that I made....👍 And still making more 😎 I have other Tamiya kits but nothing compares to a Lunchbox.
@@rexrcs Rex my man, you should build one from scratch replacing the plastic parts that will break as soon as you look at them with aluminium parts (bodyposts), add a 5th shock or the rear axle brace, don't forget the front brace that fits on the front inner wings or the tops of the suspension posts, if you're sticking with brushed then I would suggest a 15t 540 motor and a 60a brushed ESC or if you're going brushless then you have the choice of anything because both setups will make your Van move quicker than the standard 27t motor you get with the kit. I have a brushed 17t Surpass Hobby 540 in two of my Creations and they make the cars get up and go. My latest build has a 35t in it but then I put that in for a reason to which I will explain in the video when I film it tonight at work. But Yes, the mighty Lunchbox is number one. It is in a class of its own 🥇 I have a Van that I replaced the chrome front panel with a Pumpkin front panel and built it with spikes sticking out of the sides that replace the side bumpers, no rear bumper but gold ball studs and a 8t 4600kv brushless combo. Oh boy, that thing gets abused regularly and still comes back for more. And then there's the Pickups I built. I always wanted a Lunchbox Pickup so I made my own. Van. Pickup. Convertible. Double Cab. The Lunchbox is King 🥇😎👍🍻🤓👌

We love it because it's a part of our childhood. Growing up in the 80s every kid wanted one. Love the lunch box!!!
"out to lunch-box" more like! Your look when out on the tiny Moto bike was priceless! Thank you!
LOLOL, I'll hop on another one next time ;)
I got a rc10 gold pan for christmas when i was 12, restoring it now, got a clodbuster last yr and just bought a lunchbox! Thats my rc lineup
Ateam and mystery machine Id love on an M chassis, the mutt from dumb and dumber would be SWEEEEET flopping its ears up and down on a lunchbox
!HAHAHAHAHAHA
I saw Tank rc run his Vaterra twin hammer with puppy ears its funny lol
What an outstanding review! I got back into rc cars a couple years ago and remembered how it felt to be a kid again. I have newer rc cars but recently drug my original Blackfoot out of the attic from 1986 and there’s just something special about that era of rc cars and trucks!
As my profile picture suggests, I love the Lunch Box! It's just a fun toy to play with as RC should be. It's reliable and durable as well! It also shared a lot of parts with other Tamiya models so parts are easy to come by even when vintage
trust me Han, your videos and what you keep saying also added to the encouragement to open my box
Nice to meet you Bob, very great of you to leave such good feedback with memories
Yep, I got one. Fun truck with a will of it's own. Surprisingly, my kids never choose it when we go out for a drive.
As you say, I feel like a 10 year old kid when I drive it and that's pretty awesome
thanks a lot, salty snow is still melting but now I want to play with my lunchbox !
@@ValleyRC agreed much better, I cant help but think the spiked tires on the hornet dont help it?
@@rexrcs I dunno about the tyres, my Grasshopper has the stock paddle type and it still seems to bite and want to roll really easily. Just something about that chasis. Maybe too much grip and too little weight?
This video for example at about 8:40 shows just how prone to tipping they can be. A slight swerve and it still tries to go over lol

The Lunchbox is just classic cool and I've always wanted one.
I'd want the kit to build.
You can't drive a Tamiya without a smile on your face...
Dang it! Now I want a Lunchbox! I remember these trucks when I was growing up. They looked cool, but I went the JRX-T and still have it today... well, what's left of it anyways. Thanks for the time travel, it allowed me to relive some of those memories again. Life was so much simpler back then.
Much simpler for sure
@@rexrcs cheer dude! Enjoying all your content at the moment and thanks for watching 🙌🏻👏🏻👍🏻
When they first come out you had to put every piece together, they weren't pre assembled. Also had the blackfoot truck and grasshopper
I had a lunchbox as a kid. That's why we love them.
How old were you when you got it?
I got mine in 1988. Your observations are right on point. Great video!
wow what an awesome opportunity you had in 1988, what happened to it?
It’s a great starter kit doesn’t look comical at all looks freaking awesome. You have a different style . It’s just a great starter RC hobby grade starter.
Nice! My first hobby grade RC was a Lunchbox. Lots of fun, to say the least.
Thanks for sharing! sounds like your parents gave you the gift of STEM at an early age, I appreciate you stopping by to chat! and It makes me happy to hear this hit home for you. cheers!
Props to the camera operator for all those close-up shots!
Thanks! Not easy driving and filming at the same time 😅
I love a Lunchbox, but I love a modded Lunchbox more, if I can only add one after market item, it would be the Chassis brace, it is like night and day.
"Golden Era RCers" that's honey for the soul😀
After the first wheelie you know what's the magic in the Lunch Box😉
Welcome to the club😊
thank you Im very honoured
Wow this is one of my all time favourite Tamiya Rc, never owned one and they look so much fun, just like you say "can be a boy" and have lots of fun.
Regarding the original one I have, for now I reckon I'll keep it around for spare parts, as I've already snapped a screw in one of the little ball joints for the servo arms 😂
Thankyou so much for reading my story, I appreciate it very much!
This is the last lunchbox video I’m ever watching. Until I order mine that is. Looks way too fun!!
its warming up and I cant wait to get it out again, I hope you get yours soon!
Thanks for taking us along on your excursion! The lunch box looks so cute! And it seems to handle well too
Hey Terence!
I just purchased and assembled one. Always was my childhood dreams!!!! 1980's babie!!!!!
did you paint it box art?
@@rexrcs Yes I did because of a childhood goal of mine. We just received the 2nd body for it and will be purchasing Tamiya PS23 or PS16 for the 2nd body.
@@rexrcs Actually I used camel yellow for the 1st body but used the factory decals.
@@PAA738 i love them all, box art and custom art
This is what the video was about, the sentimental feelings of childhood, you hit it right on the head
Oh yes these are fun and even more so if you make a brushless one. They need a few little strength mods but you don't need to go mad. Great video :-)
Hi there, awesome! The lunchbox lifted its skirt and off it went! The bouncy nature and the unique nature of such a great RC, brings a great big smile to your face! Fun is what it’s all about! Great video. Take care, keep well and all the best 😊😉😊
yes, Im planning a day trip in the spring with an rc boat and the lunchbox, it will be so fun
Great video. I’m just getting interested in RC. I’m thinking of getting this as a starter. What radio do you recommend for the lunchbox? Thanks.
@@rexrcs awesome, thanks!
Great video, I love the backstory you put on it it really keeps your attention to the video. Do you live in Ottawa?
I did at one point in my life but Im in Simcoe area now.
thank you for the feedback tank, its helps very much
My all time favorite RC, miss my old one, had it from age 8 to like 13 or something =) Painted my`n blue, looked SO good =) It handles even better if you glue some fishing weights at each corner in the chasie, gives it less bounce and more control =)
Right on! I'll have to add some weight to mine, I need to listen to all you OG Lunchboxers!
how many body mounts have you broken, when i was 13 i had one of these and a never ending source off annoyance was the body mounts they were made out of the same fragile plastic and the grill and side pipe on the body are made of, they were forever snapping what was more annoying was when you bought the replacement you had to buy the whole chrome body kit
I appreciate your comment, I never thought a video I made would reach anybody outside the rc community thank you 🙌 the rc car then are just as awesome if not MORE awesome, without the rc’s then, we wouldn’t have the rc’s now
Thanks for the insight. I put a lunchbox on my wishlist 😊
Hope you enjoy it!

My uncle bought one yesterday and when i looked it up on the internet it told me that it was realesed in 1987 *not sure* and they stopped selling it
in 1995.
@@rexrcs ok thx

Id say to go ahead and grab those kits for you and your wife! as you can see even 20 years later you can sell them for almost what you paid, its like a piggy bank you can play with and learn from and share!

@@rexrcs Love the Farm King (shoulda been featured in the Farmville game)
Vanessa's lunch box... always wanted this truck. My cousin had the Marui Big Bear.
They are very reasonably prices these days at $150canadian but if youre new to rc you’ll also need the radio system, speed controller and servo. Good think radio systems are a one time purchase
All I got was radio shack cars on a cord that took 20 dubble AAand lasted 3mins
It's a different kind of fun! Definitely not in the same ballpark as an Arrma for durability and performance.
yes for sure, very different, I quite enjoy my other extreme rc's as well but there's something about being able to clearly see the subtle movements a slower less capable rc does, keeps it simple and brings me back to when I didn't have bills to pay lol
Kind of odd to even mention Arrma. As far as durability, the Lunchbox is extremely durable and doesn't even require maintenance if you install ball bearings. The only thing i ever broke on that thing were the plastic body mounts.
Proper old school fun
If you like the LUNCHBOX, you should check out Wild Willy 2.
those are awesome too! I havent built one but maybe in the future

Used to kick up
Omg
Didnt know it could run that fast!
I was very very surprised at the acceleration, it does top out fast, but its quite fast enough and it handles bumps like a dream compared to its buggy sisters and brothers
Never had one but always wanted one. Definitely fun. Nice video
its such silly fun, and way less tippy than I thought it would be
I love my Lunchbox Rex.
Actually, I love all of 45 Creations that I made....👍
And still making more 😎
I have other Tamiya kits but nothing compares to a Lunchbox.
Hey ! If it isnt the lunchbox king himself! Welcome ✋! I want another one!
It is in a class of its own 🥇
I have a Van that I replaced the chrome front panel with a Pumpkin front panel and built it with spikes sticking out of the sides that replace the side bumpers, no rear bumper but gold ball studs and a 8t 4600kv brushless combo.

🙌🙏 thank you I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know. I dont often put effort into my videos but when I do its nice to know it was worth it. I have zero background in video production or story telling
Cool... I just upload my lunchbox video
I have an original one I wonder how much it's worth
I'd check ebay for current pricing
@@rexrcs meh I'd like to keep it and buy a new one to bash on
@@ricardosaldivar660 thats a better choice! ❤️
Hey don't forget I have the Black edition and the regular edition of that car now the elf man the elf. Lol
HEY BRAD! np call me, last week I had family over so I was not available. If I had the black version, I would no doubt be turning that into what ADAMS RC PLAYGROUND said, the ATEAM VAN! whats the regular version? The elf has many to bless in this world, I cannot ask for more than what he's already done, I am grateful beyond belief and no words could ever express how perfect his timing was.
@@rexrcs I feel the same way.
@@rexrcs The regular version is the yellow one. You get a white shell that you paint yellow and add the decals from the box
OR
paint the white shell whatever colour you want adding your own design into the build hence making it your very own creation (like I do) 👍
They are fun
I got one back in 1988
Whoa! I was only 2 years old back then!
@@rexrcs I was 11 lol
@@scottreasons4746 have you purchased another one yet??
@rexrcs no buy I plan on it very soon!!! I remember when I had mine in 88 I wanted to figure out how to put lights and speakers in it. I will do all that when I get a new one and I will make a video on the unboxing and entire build!!
@rexrcs not yet but I do plan on it for sure!!
Nice video 👍 subscribed
