Never in a million years would I have thought up the cloth-around-a-block-of-wood technique. Lots of great tips in this video, but I think that one in particular is my favorite.

The further you took this not only the more realistic did it become, it also got more and more impressive. You really paid attention to how an old book might age.

Thanks Doktor for the nice complements, it is always helpful for me to hear feedback on my videos. Thanks also for watching and for commenting.

"Halloween doesn't have to be about blood and gore, but about great spooky fun". Couldn't agree more! You're projects walk that line beautifully, and exactly the kind of feel I want to create for my home haunt and decorations! Thanks so much!

Wonderful compliment Steve, I am glad that you agree. Please don't forget to spread the news about our RUclips videos, it will help us in creating more videos that push "spooky fun"!

HALLOWEEN HOW-TO by Saul Films I will definitely do what I can to spread the word Paul. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of strong content in this space, so I think you have a great opportunity to “dominate” once the word gets out. I already submitted your channel to AtmosFX to be featured on their blog. However you may be “disqualified” since you haven’t featured any of their products yet. Another great way to boost your subscriber base is to collaborate with more well-known RUclipsrs. Hollywood Haunters have a strong following. I would think there would be a lot of overlapping interests with the Punished Props subscribers and cosplay community.

I came to the comments section to echo this quote as well! This is my exact philosophy on Halloween. It should be "great spooky fun!"

You nailed it about "Halloween doesn't have to be about blood and gore, but about great spooky fun", it's so much fun to see people pointing some home-made prop and smiling, or standing there and watching 2 or 3 cycles of an animated prop. But what I really wanted to comment on is how fantastic these videos are. I have replicated a couple of these props and they turned out great, not because I have great talent, it's because your videos are so comprehensive without being confusing, that I have complete confidence that the prop will turn out great. And having confidence is half the battle. However even if you don't intend to make one of the featured props, each video has great suggestions on crafting techniques that we can use to make other props. Just great wealth of knowledge, thank you.

Thank you so much Steb for such a thoughtful comment. When I create these videos, it is in a bit of a bubble, so this kind of positive feed back is extremely helpful. For years, my sister and I created elaborate Halloween displays at our parents home. No guts, gore, torture or dismemberment, just "Good Spooky Fun". It was a joy to watch people, of all ages, have a bit of fun.

      Hi Haylee,
Would you be interested in a HALLOWEEN DIY & HOW-TO giveaway?! I have all kinds of odds and ends left over from my builds and videos, they are not complete sets of items to build a prop, but enough to get viewers started. I would probably have several "Prop Packages" from specific How-To videos to giveaway as FREE PRIZES! To enter viewers would just need to complete a contest or task. Please respond if this sounds like something that you would be interested in. If I get good responses such as thumbs up, then I will publish a video during this off season that will give everyone all the details, rules, how to enter and prize descriptions.
      Thanks!
      Paul

Another marvelous project. Under the tape hot glue or glued yarn or jute could be added to leave raised spots that old style books had when they were hand sewn and tied.

There's a place for that, certainly, but give me good old spooky atmosphere any day.

This is great - excellent detail. Only thoughts are that it seems like a lot of work and time for a single item that isnt going to be seen up close very often. I recently made one very quickly by wrapping & gluing the outside of the box with a brown leather look vynal. Not as good as yours but will pass in low light. Im def using your technique for making the pages. Thanks!
