Thanks to the local fire department for telling you to do something dangerous and then tell them not to come in case of a deadly emergency. Then telling thousands of people to do the same... what happens if a fire breaks out over something else too ? Then what ? Screwed .

Using the silver fabric was actually a pretty genius move. Not only does it improve the flame effects with the light reflections, but it's also kind of dark on the top, giving the illusion of smoke coming off the top of the fire. : )

Outstanding effect! Wish I’d have had this info a year ago when we were creating fire effect for a marching band show this would have saved hours of work.
Suggestion, we use a fabric called Poly China Silk for our flags because of how it flows in the wind. It’s super cheap, about $2.50 a yd. and available in every imaginable color. It would be a flamin’ hot and affordable product for this application.

Light plastic sheeting like paint covers make for a good substitute cloth and you can see on the other side of flames for additional effect like timbers with glowing embers made with foil partly painted black to allow some of its crinkled surface to reflect the fire light. The plastic tricks the eyes into seeing a smoke filled room with burning timbers which will fluctuate with the dancing light.

I’m an FX artist and worked for Imagineering for years and this is exactly how the fire effects in the pirate ride is created. The only difference is that they use a transparent plastic wrap, like Saran Wrap instead of curtains. That way the flames are also transparent, allowing props and walls to be see through the flame. Great job though with very good step by step instructions. I enjoy your channel. Try it with plastic wrap next time and see how it turns out. Just make sure the lights don’t contact the plastic because it will melt easily.

They said you need space under the fans, but they don't emphasize why.
Not only is the space necessary for air intake, but a fan (particularly, a box fan) can overheat, if it's placed flat on its back or has inadequate space for air intake.
Give your fans a little room to breathe -- literally! :)

I'd try adding a blue and/or light pointing over top of the red & orange so as to create a smoke effect but looks pretty real. For much smaller areas, I'd use a quiet fan for computer.

  • @wjf213
    @wjf213 4 года назад +8

That's very cool and looks 100% real. I would make one suggestion though, those fan motors are not really designed to be run in the vertical position, because they do not have the tapered type roller bearings to handle the vertical thrust since they're designed to be run only in the horizontal position. It will probably be fine, but I would keep an eye on that just in case. Keep up the great work.

My local fire department actually saved my cat. I was 15 and I truly had no idea who to call he was way up there in the tree had been stuck two days. I just called the non emergency number to ask advice saying who would I call because the media suggests fire department for cats in trees lol. He laughed and said he understood. He said they had actually never done that before at his location and he's happy I called lol. He said well first just give him a few days and try to lure him down with food "his instincts to eat will override his fear, on the off chance it doesn't work call us Monday"... didn't work, they sent the new guy up the tree and his new nickname was catman lol. They were very kind. I'm sure they didn't have to by any means but they did. He wasn't coming down. I'd call him because he was yowling loud wanting down. When I'd call him and he'd realize I wanted him to come down he'd rub on the branches like ok nm didn't want down bad enough to do it myself lol.

Sunnie DIY Don’t like the “wait several days” suggestion. Some areas have predators that can climb or fly. Owls, vultures, hawks, possums, raccoons, coyotes, cougars, and foxes, and feral cats can injury or kill the cat. If you didn’t have an a frame ladder than was y’all enough with level solid ground, you could have asked a neighbor for one or to hold a ladder, and then called the fire department for a non emergency if that didn’t work

    • @SunnieDIY

@@xchemicalXladybugx Where I was wasn't an issue, in the middle of town very few predators. Definitely none way way way up there that's the help he offered. None of our ladders went up that high and dad worked in construction. He was fine and it all worked out but I did try explaining to the fire chief that the cat most certainly wasn't coming down. I explained I had already offered food lol. That the cat kept calling panicked until he realized I expected him to come down on his own for it. Then he'd rub the branches. Like "No I'm just fine up here I changed my mind, I don't need down that badly".

Everyone is taking this so seriously.. these people own a beautiful house. They are not stupid enough to let this run while they aren't home nor leave it unattended at night. As the fireman said, everything they have implemented is as safe as can be. Yes, fans, fabric, and light bulbs are a train ride to disaster, but they've taken the safest route possible. I bet they only let this run 2-4 hours a day max

It reminds me of the town on fire magical illusion that Disney Imagineers had created for the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the parks. At first, that even confused the Disney parks’ fire department and they thought it was real. The Imagineers had to temporarily shut down the ride and show the firemen how the illusion worked in order for them to be convinced it was only fake. That’s how great the effect was. These people in the beginning of the video said that when this effect was inspired from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the Disney parks, they absolutely explained my point. Great work guys 👍

Please Please Please Please people use LED bulbs. Do not take the chance with hotter bulbs as we know all of you who do this are going to leave this set up unattended. Do not allow small children to get anywhere near the fans
Here is are some ideas that came to my mind watching this great video:
You can put the box fans on the floor but at the video suggest, put something under them to allow air flow. If you get the right size carboard boxes (so your fans will sit correctly on top) you can cut rectangular holes on each side of the box, at least 4" tall x 6" wide. on all four sides. This should allow enough air flow without too much suction, if there seems to be a lot of suction on the holes make the holes a little bigger, just be careful you don't destroy the sturdiness of the boxes.
For the fabric, you can create cradle poles to hold the fabric out. The easiest way I can think of is to get two 1" Furring strips. I would recommend the 1"x3". Use a drill with a speed bore and cut a hole in one end of each. This hole should be big enough , so the the pole you are attaching to the fabric will slide into it. Basically you are gong to make a "Canopy".
Attach your fabric above the window. Attach your pole to the other side of the fabric. Make sure your pole is long enough so that you have a couple inches of pole sticking out on each side of the fabric. Now roughly measure how long your two furring strips need to be to hold the pole out away from the wall far enough to give your fabric the look you want. It's better to have them a little longer than you think. Slide a furring strip on each side of the pole so the the bottom of the furring strip go back to the floor under the window. if you need to make adjustments, try rolling fabric onto the pole to make adjustments, before attempting to cut the furring strips shorter. With some trail and error you should be able to get a good placement. You can also use a 2"x4" or tie some weights to the end if you need some more "pull" on the fabric.
Finally, a sign on your front lawn that says "Our House Is NOT On Fire!!" might be helpful. lol
