Easy DIY Halloween Hologram For Your Front Yard

- This tutorial will show you the steps to create an easy-to-do hologram illusion for your Halloween display!
Items needed:
- Cheap LED projector
- Insulating foam board (to protect your projector)
- Tule (any fabric store or Amazon) 2023 UPDATE! Use GREY tule! Less visible in the daytime and less sheer at night from the street lights!
- Tie wraps (black)
- USB key for your scary video: I recommend atmosfx.com. Search for pirates and spooky skeletons.
- Tombstones and light
- Extension cord.
For those who wonder... "tulle?" ... it is the fabric used to make bridal veils, etc.
Two observations about the tulle. In the light it looks like cobwebs, in the dark it gives an illusion of fog, too.
Great effect! Love it!
Also the stone house and gate is epic as well! Love it, too!
All i need is a stone mansion, an iron gate, a projector, an appropriate image.
Ha! Ha! Good one! I't can work great with a simple chain link fence too! :)
And live in a neighbourhood that wont run off with it in 5 minutes
@@hoofhearted1102 I live in Canada, we don't have ghettos!
@@gaywizard2000 I live in a nice area of the UK but it would still get taken 😂🙈 I wouldn’t mind living in Canada tbh, the way of living over here is crazy now.
@@hoofhearted1102 brexit bite you in the bum eh?
That looks really good. I never saw it done with a gate. It makes more sense than behind someone's big front window
If your projector has a way to correct for the keystone effect you could place it to the side so the bright light didn't show. I really like using the fence.
Smart. I never looked into it. Thanks!
Another option that could be used in combo with it. Make the light look like a separate effect. Put what looks like a glass fortune teller ball or "magic artifact" in front of it but in such a way it's not actually blocking or distorting the light. Put some really dim candle like lights around it and you've turned a bug into a feature.
I simply use black foam board and cut out a cemetery scene and place the projector behind it, then use the keystone to correct the video orientation. The tombstones don't have to be big, only about 6-8 inches high, just enough to hide the projector glare.
Wow! Fantastic effect. Your house and fence seem a perfect stage for hosting Halloween decorations.
Thank you very much!
Killer job! Thanks for sharing!
Talk about WAY too hard on yourself man! You have done awesome and kids in my area thank you! Don't beat yourself up about anything here, you did great man. Many thanks!
I love the simplicity for such a nice effect! Great job
That is a beautiful gate.
That is magnificent!! Thanks for sharing.
That is fantastic!
Love the effect! One suggestion is to put the projector off to the left side pointing towards the right but hitting the screen material. That way the light from the project will not be seen by the viewer.
I do this for Halloween too. It's a huge hit! Thanks for sharing 😊
You are so welcome!
That looks really awesome. Nice job. Mosquito netting is a good alternative to tulle. It comes in different colors. I've used green along some bushes on the edge of my property. It blends in really well.
This is too cool!!!! Thank you for sharing!! I think you could do a much more uplifting Christmas one!! Kids skating on a pond with Frosty, a manger scene, santa & reindeer on the roof❤❤❤❤
Hmmm, nice idea, but I live in Montreal and our weather would not be kind to a projector outdoors. 😁
“Much more uplifting”?! I gather you have a problem with Halloween?
@@jonathanmcvay4499 NOPE not at all. I don't do demonic at Halloween. And I DO PREFER TO CELEBRATE JESUS'S BIRTH 🙏✝️
I find the birth of our LORD more uplifting than things crawling out of hell--- but that's just ME. Ironic isn't it that Christians are NOT allowed the same "tolerance" as the criminals, satanic, debaucherous and confused??
@@vickigonya9432 I am a Christian, and the son of a minister. Halloween is not demonic unless one makes it so. Otherwise it is simply an American holiday. Nothing evil about it. I bet you put up a Christmas tree. That is a pagan symbol as well, if one chooses to make it so. In fact, if you have anything at all up in your home other than religious symbols like Nativities, it is NO different than celebrating Halloween. Matthew 7:1-5. “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
That works SO well, even with the fabric being a little haphazard. Good call on the green backlight, it all goes together amazingly!
Great idea with the tulle. Perfect for my attic window ghost.
Thank you!
Love this. ❤️❤️❤️👻👻
Awesome!
Nice! I had no idea tulle would work for this kind of projection. I've been trying to get the wrinkles out of my shower curtain liner for 2 weeks & I could have just done this instead! Bravo! Looks wonderful!
BTW I am trying a new type of tulle (grey) as per a recommendation from a viewer. I'll post a video to let you know how it goes. :)
Fantastic effect with your gate! Well done. You might look into using a piece of chiffon in a some shade of light gray. I for get the exact name of the shade although I believe it is called “casa collection platinum” from JoAnn’s fabrics. It is a little denser weave than the tulle and as such only requires one layer of material. At night, if objects behind it are properly lit it becomes virtually invisible, especially with that fence and gate you have. Also you might consider using a small set of computer speakers hidden behind the other tombstones if you ever wanted to take the sound level up a bit. Not saying what you did was bad at all just offering useful information should you ever need it. Looking forward to more content. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for your comment! I will look into it!
Chiffon is much easier to rip and I don't see zipties holding it, tulle is much better for that. Tulle also is 4 to 8 times cheaper, so still the cheapest way to go.
That looks brilliant! Perfect for Halloween.
Ingenious. I have to try it.
Nice effect! Perfect visual for having the gate in front of it. I like the use of stand-offs keeping the projection box off the ground.
Grest job! You could also Camouflage the TULE with a bit of spider webs and spiders on the front side of the gate.
AWESOME IDEA! I just got a Webmaster glue gun! I didn't think of using it this way! I will post an updated video soon since I'll be improving it many ways, including with your suggestion. Thanks! :)
Absolutely beautiful use of a projected image! Really great job❤!
Thanks a lot! Rayrocker5150 suggested to add a smoke machine. Great suggestion if it stays on the ground like mist.
@@ericsvariouscreations4583 yes, good suggestion. Use a simple fog chiller made from a drink cooler, chicken wire, dryer tubing. Many tutorials out there. Happy Halloween 🎃!
I'm a big fan of Halloween. This is a fantastic starting point for a really cool Halloween display.
Great project very creative, looks so realistic.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That is awesome! Thank you for sharing this!!💕👻
Thanks for watching!
I hope you get some children's reactions to this on video. It's so hard to impress children these days with their connections being so deep. I love this and you made it look simple..very creative and thoughtful.
WOW! Just wish I could do something like that!
Fun! Nice clean install.
Very cool outcome! It looks amazing. 👏
That is really cool man. I think if you threw in some smoke or fog affect, you’d really have it going on.
Totally agree! Great idea if it stays on the ground like mist. Otherwise if the smoke rises, it might affect the results.
THIS JUST POPPED IN ON October '23-FREAKING AWESOME! -/BEAUTIFUL GATE! AND I REALLY LOVE THAT TALL HEDGE HIDING THE CHAIN LINK FENCE‼️
I TOO LIKE USING WHAT I HAVE BEFORE GETTING MORE!!
Wow this looks so freaking good really good job man!
Thanks!
If the gate isn't aluminum, you might be able to use supermagnets instead of zip ties to hold the tulle.
Great idea. So simple. Zip ties are what I had handy.
Eeekk. That is so 👻 Spooky Scary. Skelton Skelton. Yikes. 😮. Really awesome decorating. Thanks for sharing your project and ideas. We have a lot of tulle that we know what to do with. But now we need the white color Tulle. 👍.
That is so awesome! Thanks for sharing! Blessings of love and light to all!
OMG...I HAVE TO DO THIS!! I've just GOT to do this....ANY time of the year...to mess with my 9 year old grandson!!! LOL!! I'm saving this video...and I'm hitting Walmart Monday or Tuesday and start my hunt for items needed. THIS is GREAT!!! I know nothing about projectors so I HOPE I get the right kind. I've already got to get bales of stray for the laser tag course I'm starting on so it's ready for Christmas for my grand kids. Getting them a laser tag set!! Gonna do walls, barrels..stacks of hay bales and whatever else I can come up with. But FIRST...I'm going to set up ...or attempt to...this hologram in the field first.....OH I CAN'T WAIT!! I'm one of THOSE grandmas....the ones that the grand kids LOVE...but also tell her she's CRAZY at the same time....LOL!!
Just go for it! You'll do great! BTW, I have changed for a grey tulle this year and it does work best since it's more discreet. Let me know how your grand kids react to your project! Happy Halloween!
Amazing 👍🏻👍🏽👍
Thats so cool 😊
This is absolute perfection. I HAVE to do this!
Super awesome!
Great tutorial for an awesome effect!! Well done!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Always keep a black sharpie nearby. Just color the zip ties black. ✌🏻
Love the legs on the tombstone. I was just getting ready to make this and thinking about legs also since I just seeded my yard 3 weeks ago.
Just really, really good! Big effect from such relatively simple application.
wow... What a nearly perfect effect. That is too cool.
Hoping to improve upon it this year! I have redone my videos and I will be using grey colored tulle. I'll keep you posted. :)
Awesome ☠️💀 top notch ! 👌
Thanks so much!
That's a stage effect called a scrim. Very effective!
Can't wait to see the updated version this year
Yes! I have used grey tulle, so I think it will be much better. I will post a video of the results. Happy Hallloween!
Very cool
Awesome! Thank you for sharing this.
This video has been so inspiring to do all kinds of things for Halloween this year.
Thanks! Have fun!
Great video, nice effects. One option is using a frosted shower lining which you can get from the $ store. I have the projections on a window overlooking my driveway this way. Makes me wish I had a nice gate like yours so I can put outside :-)
Way cool! That gate is AWESOME. Yeah I hate those darn street lights too!!
Looks great!!! Thanks for the zip tie tip!! 👻
Spooktacular!!!!!!
Well done. sir.
OMGAWD THAT'S AWESOME! Thanks for the inspiration!!
So cool! Thanks! 😁😈
This looks great! Nice video!
Thanks a lot!
Great effect!
Thanks for sharing and taking the time to demo!
Thanks for taking the time to comment! :) Glad you enjoyed it!
This is amazing! Nice job and thanks for sharing.
I think this is right up there with Disney / UA work on a home scale.. COOL 😎 🆒️
That is super cool!
I am so doing this next year! Thanks for the awesome video!!
So did you ?
@@SparkySINN Alas, no, I got covid for the first time right before Halloween D: I didn't get to do Halloween at all, and it's my main holiday.
That was amazing!
VERY COOL !!!!!!!!
You also have to make sure that sprinklers are turned off, and the LCD projector is behind a locked gate if you’re going to leave it out all the time, so it doesn’t get stolen.
Absolutely, I live in Montreal, Canada, so the sprinkler gets closed in September and I always lock my gate. That's also why you use a cheap projector for this.
@@ericsvariouscreations4583 Which "cheap projector" do you use or suggest?
Perfect scene setup.
1:07 Same here dude. I cuss like a sailor when I'm on speed.
Ha! Ha!
That's amazing
This is very cool, love the idea, Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching!
I love this! Great job!
Wow! Amazing!
Ugh the street light facing the yard I have one too 😆 but this effect very cool
OMG.. That is so cool!!!!!!
That is cool. I may have to try this. It was a good detailed video. Thanks for sharing the idea
This looks awesome going haft to try n make this. Cool. Thanks 🙏
This is insane! 🩷it!!!
Sooo cool!!!❤
This is *really* cool!
Excellent work!
Very nice!
That’s amazing I love it !!!
Very nice! Now you just need a little motor to thump the gate in time with the skeleton's banging. :)
Good idea! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the educational vid.
That is really cool, thank you.
chiffon works best for projection and super cheap!
That’s really cool I’m gonna be doing something similar this Halloween from our windows .
Absolutely! If you want to keep your privacy, just use a white sheet for the windows, but you'll lose the ''hologram'' effect. Thanks for your comment! :)
Looks like a fun project for next year. I wonder how well this would work up against a window to make it look like a skeleton was inside the house and looking out the window.
To have a Hologram effect you would need to light up your room. I think then it would be amazing! :)
I love it!
great job but for anyone making this make the projector box longer. if it rains and there is wind you projector might get damaged
Awesome, job I like it!
