If the holidays are stressing you out, put some time aside to take care of yourself with this 40 minute yin yoga class to open up the entire body. You will two blocks and a strap for this practice although if you don't own this, no big deal! You can use some pillows and a belt instead. These poses are beginner friendly and great for those of you who don't have a lot of flexibility. You will leave this class feeling calm and comfortable in your own body.

What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is often called the Yoga of the joints because unlike other styles of yoga, the emphasis is not on the muscles but on the deep connective tissue. Connective tissue is made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form your joints. Yin yoga improves the range of motion in your joints and also strengthens them. The results and benefits are more flexibility and greater range of motion and also more stability within your joints.
There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga.
1. Find your edge
2. Be still
3. Hold the pose
Use as many props as needed in Yin Yoga! Blocks, bolsters and straps are all great ways to support your body to make sure you are respecting your edge and not going too far.

the folding forward is an extremely simple thing to do with the human body, and yet this movement is missing in our daily life. powerful every time!
I discovered your channel through your appearance on Melissa West's channel. I had serious back surgery 3 years ago and nothing has helped until I found Yin Yoga! I am slowly getting back my flexibility and am feeling less pain. Thank you so much!
At the end, when you finish, I was just getting good and relaxed in the corpse pose when RUclips moved into ads. So I had to come out of it to pause, and then it wasn't the same. Just wanted you to know, to avoid that I have to pause you before going into the last pose.
Otherwise, awesome class.
It would be helpful to me to have some guidance for us overweight, very inflexible, older persons on to how to modify the poses.
For example, I cannot do the child's pose with my arms back, and still breathe, I had to put my arms forward, but I am not sure I am getting the benefit you intend if I do that..
And I cannot even begin to get my legs as wide as you, and it takes a flat block, a tall block. and two fists to rest my head.
This is how inflexible I am.
But this was my first try for this class, and I do feel pretty great after doing it.

yay yin yoga again... but in the wide legged forward fold, my legs aren't that wide apart and my upper body nearly stay vertical in the lower back, so that gravity isn't working that much. so is there a pre-exercise or pose which I can do to get more into the wide legged forward fold pose.
+Dennis Brache Wide leg child's pose is a great preparation for the wide legged fold. It took me years to get to that range of flexibility so don't be too hard on yourself! Try sitting up on a block too, it helps to tilt the pelvis forward and fold easier, so that you're not rounding in the lower back :)

I just discovered Yin Yoga and woowwwwww what an amazing complimentary practice to Hatha Yoga...incredible. Love your videos. The pauses, the silence and minimum cues is perfect....you are not choking a lesson with cues and talking. Also the way you end it while in Shavasana is beautiful...instead of making us get up to say Namaste when we are not ready yet. Thank you, what a gift you are.
Hi Kassandra! I'm not sure if you answer questions but these keep coming up for me so I figured I'd try. First, how should I adjust when I experience pins & needles during yin yoga? (Or should I just let it happen until the end of the pose?)
And second, I have SO MUCH popping in my hips! I can't do child's pose with my knees together without a lot of discomfort and popping. (I also can't bow on the floor during Buddhist rituals without this happening, which is annoying in a quiet meditation hall, ha...) Do you have any specific advice for hip popping? I can do child's pose just fine with my knees apart.

I love your yin yoga videos! I've been stressed this past week with midterms so I made time to do a couple yin yoga sessions to relax. The one pose that I have trouble with is the wide legged forward fold. I find it hard to relax because I have turned-in hips so my knees always want to roll forward and I always have to push them or hold them back. Any tips for this pose from kassandra or other yogis?

Hi Kassandra, it was a gr8 relaxing stretch. My only feedback would be is that for me i would use this before sleep coz I was falling asleep and my stomach rumbling for food in morning as it was too long for me. Night time yes I would luv this one but for morning 30mns would be just perfect for me. Thankyou so much I truly enjoyed it though.

Is it normal to feel tingling in my legs when doing yin yoga (especially in pigeon pose, but sometimes in wide legged forward fold as well), or am I doing something wrong?
it used to happen to me in pigeon pose and it's because my leg was at a bad angle pinching a nerve. Try to level the hips and maybe sit up on a block. We want to keep the circulation going!

Yes, it happens to me too sometimes. It can be an indication that you're going a bit too far in the pose!
