    ​Today's Yoga with Melissa class is a collaboration and features a special guest, Kassandra from her RUclips channel Yoga with Kassandra. Kassandra has kindly filmed a yin yoga class for all of you.
    This beginner friendly yin yoga class is a fantastic way to give your joints some TLC. Yin yoga is a passive practice where we learn to work with gravity to reduce stress and anxiety, improve joint health and increase our range of motion. Yogis with limited flexibility will enjoy these simple poses that can produce big results when done consistently. I'm not using any props during this practice but you may want to have 1 block and 1 strap close by. The three principles of Yin Yoga are: finding your edge, holding the pose and being still. This means that we are never trying to push ourselves further into a pose and risking injury. Respect your body and listen to the feedback you are receiving. We also want to remain still without engaging the muscles to bring the stress to our joints as opposed to our muscular tissues. Yin yoga asanas are held anywhere between 2 and 10 minutes. In this beginner practice, most poses will be held for about 3 minutes. Always remember that you can come out of a pose at any time!

    I learned Hatha Yoga over 5yrs when living in India and still do 1 hr a morning at 66yrs of age. Recently discovered Yin Yoga and I like it so much I now do the yin Practice before bedtime, getting, I hope the best of both worlds as I see no conflict in practising both

    Oh, my gosh...I have this in my favorites but I hadn't done it in a while, and have been hurting really bad all over for weeks. I finally got back on the floor and did this class and I seriously feel like an entirely new (and BETTER) person! This is definitely the go-to for when I need renewal and refreshing. Thank you SO much!

    I've been doing this routine to wind down, to restore, before bed, and to generally feel better for a long time, but never consistently. Recently added the Apollo Neuro to the mix. I went up from 30-40 HRV to 70-100 HRV in a week doing it once or twice a day. Trying to heal from chronic health issues this is the perfect routine when the body has gone back to a broken down state. Thanks for sharing Melissa and Kassandra :) I absolutely love it.

    I am new to yoga, and am very stiff in my body, until someone told me to do yin yoga. and that's good for me.
    this video and 2 others with kasandera is nice video she explains things well, and at a quiet pace. what I consider important. I do this now for a month every 2 days so that my body can also take a rest. and stiffness in my legs are much less. I want to thank you for your good explanation and peacefull heart. loves harold from Eindhoven the Netherlands

    Dearest Melissa I practiced this class on Sunday and I just loved, loved, loved the yin yoga. It felt like coming home to my body and dovetails for me so nicely with the Somatic meditation practice that you are guiding us through. I feel like the Somatic mediation is allowing my body to really talk to me as I learn to step back , observe and let my body BE what it yearns to BE as I lovingly listen with detachment and allow the alchemy to transform me from the inside out as if by magic as my true authentic self slowly emerges. The yin yoga let me go deeper into the journey withe my body and the realise and the emotions were powerful! At one point I felt like the breathe was breathing me and I was observing as my body flowed into the poses and I listened and led my body lead me. I must admit I did relegate my "head" / mind to the bench as I gently said "hey for 44 you have run the show, take some time out and let the body lead and just observe". For me the yin yoga is really deep and releasing additional layers of tension so I think I will start with one day a week yin yoga and see where the body leads me. I really loved Kassandra's teaching style and for me, Kassandra has that same essence that drew me to you. I thank you for sharing and bringing Kassandra into my practice. I think my book club has arrived at the post office as i have a card to pick up a parcel and I am excited to read it and can't wait to delve into "posturing" after our live somatic meditation last week. As always I am looking forward to our live meet up today as you guide us to get to know and listen to the wisdom of our body. With love and gratitude Anne Marie x x x

    I was just planning on watching this to maybe do it later, but I did the entire thing! I started out in my office chair in front of my computer, and ended up on the floor. I've never heard of this type of yoga before. I'm so glad I found this! I feel so relaxed and calm now. I really needed this. Thank you!

    Wonderful Yin yoga session! I am just exposing myself to the beauty of Yin yoga. Every time I engage myself in a session, holding certain poses bring me to tears --not the sad, or omg, I'm in pain ones, but rather as if a Charka suddenly opened. Like I said I know very little of this practice, but again this happened to me during this video in the Sphinx pose, it's a beautiful experience, thank you for this video.

    Watched it once and practiced for first time today....It really helped me to connect to inner tissues and joints and I want to practice it everyday at home as I awaken my body to more elaborate forms of yoga in classes.

    This is such a great class and a great way to stay involved even when ill. 2nd week of antibiotics, but still not up for a full Hatha class - I am really going to enjoy being able to switch back and forth! Thank you Melissa and Kassandra!

    Hi Kassandra, I have done your class for about 10 times now. I'm really impressed with the effect it has on me as hsp: I'm spending less time in my mind, but more in my body. I've never done any yoga before and I'm really happy that I have found this. Do you have a recommendation for another class that could help me with this? I tried some other videos on your own channel (like the upper back knots-video) but they are mostly too heavy or painful for me as a beginner.

    That was lovely! I was looking for a short class, and saw this 45 minute one and almost skipped over it because I felt like it was going to be too long for me today... but I thought every yin class I've done has always made me feel better..... so I tried it, and loved it. You're a very peaceful teacher, and I like that you speak when necessary... not throughout the entire class... Thanks for this! I feel much better ❤︎ I will be subscribing to both channels, to give both of them a try. Thanks ladies

    I love Kassandra's yin yoga and it was lovely to come back here after a break. I'm looking forward to engaging with Melissa's sessions now too.
    The only problem I had with this was that the background music was too loud. Especially the high notes. It may be that I wear hearing aids. Something perhaps to consider with sound balance. Nonetheless, feel so much better. Thank you 🥰

    It certainly requires a lot more patience, but I must say, after having tried it, it seems perfect for those nighits when I come home from volleyball practice at 10:30pm. I have a really hard time relaxing and getting my body into sleep mode then, and I honestly think this will help me a lot. Thank you both for the collaboration.

    I have never heard of Yin yoga. At first, I thought there is no way I could hold for 3 minutes but I know I needed it. I thought after 30 to minute it's time to change :D I'm just not sure if i could hold a yoga "pose" for that long :D THANK YOU!!! LOVE your style of teaching!!
