I don’t think the problem is that sf6 ain’t hype to watch but the lack of crowd hype makes it seem less hype from a viewer perspective then watching a set from a major and having that one random guy yell. If this was at say NEC or CEO I’d be hype
The variety of tools available in SF6 has made the skill ceiling so much higher and the optimal path so much broader. It's so delightful to watch. Even with no health left, you've got so many options, there's still so much threat. The embodiment of "It ain't over til it's over." I can't wait to learn more.
I watch a lot of SF6 on other channels, and it's truly magical how various pros can show me something new about the game mechanics, or character mechanics, almost everyday.
I love watching SF6 competitive games. It's insane how many tournaments I watch compared to the years of FGC content I've consumed. I don't even play SF6 as much as I watch. Love it!
Ed is seriously the fighter I've been wanting more than any one and I've been cycling mains since launch while waiting for him ever since he leaked with the original roster. It just makes me so mad that we've seen more of Akuma than him. Plus the last two fighters all came out within a 2 month period between each other with teases of them in-between. The Ed disrespect is real.
I think part of playing this game well is not focusing on optimal stuff but combining situational understanding with taking what you can get when you can, multiple smaller interactions that add up. AB doesn't shy away from jab, short kick DP as an example.
It's definitely situational understanding and capitalizing on openings as you said, but LP > LK > DP isn't "nonoptimal", it's a punish that reaches and has quick enough startup frame data to actually work in certain situations. The reason it's so hype is that what IS optimal changes every moment, for every interaction-and these pros keep up with that.
Its always about optimals but I think this is a different interpretation of the terms definition. Pros always do optimal choices in any situation but that doesn’t mean it’s always optimal damage when other things matter as well as set ups and okies
So many haters crawling out of the woodwork here. "Wah, wah top tier Kens and JPs" Tell me you get folded online without telling me you get folded online. Y'all must be new here and don't remember the dark ages of Phoenix and Vanilla Sagat. This is the most balanced it's ever been. Literally skill issue.
can we agree this game is so freaking good and deserves all the praise it got from the release up to now? im saying this even in the betas, SF6 is getting in the conversations for the best Street FIghter ever, and probably the best fighting game ever, to soon to say, its is so amazing and its not even 1year old yet!!!!! Sorry mk1, but been messy as you are and getting this competition, you will have no chance this generation.
Game is so good to watch, goddamn... Thanks for speaking that truth outloud, Max. Twit sometimes makes us ask ourselves questions that have no business being asked... SF6 is thrilling to play and insane to watch at the highest level.
This game is definitely the new Third Strike, it's intense and even more volatile. people will complain up and down because they can't handle it but that's the same thing that happened with TS back in the day. SF6 is most likely going to be remembered as one of the best fighting games of all time and it deserves it.
Just watched a video where Justin Wong suggested perhaps the one thing that would fix the drive rush conundrum: delayed wake. That aside we need a separate input for perfect parry-possibly 6+m+k. They could even add 2+m+k for perfect low parry.
Nerf parry by making you choose high/low, then if you get a PP you dont get to do anything you want it just knocks back to neutral. make raw DR cost 2 bars and if its checked you go into crumple state. that would make things 90% better in my opinion, canceling moves into DR feels super oppressive but it costs half your bar to do it so its pretty balanced.
@@kye4216 the delayed wakeup (The only sad part is that safe jumps would cease to exist and some setups are cool af), the high and low perfect parry and making drive reversal 1.5 bar and 0+ on block could make SF6 a godlike game
@@kye4216 Honestly, I’m cool with the reward PP gives you now. I just think execution and risks need to be increased on it. The biggest complaint pros have with it now is that attempting PP is free. Make it so that PP attempts are explicit and missing them gets you stuffed-pretty much like 3S. They can even leave regular parry untouched for lower-level players.
@@raysoma123 Drive Reversal doesn't need to be cheaper, it just needs faster startup. Too easy to punish, which doesn't make it low enough risk compared to OD reversal. *@kye4216* Raw DR absolutely should not cost more, but making a DR check a Punish Counter may be the right call for balancing-crumple is a bit much. Cancelling into DR not only costs half your meter, but it introduces extra scaling and completely freezes Drive recovery until combo end, so I think it's balanced same as you. For Perfect Parry, maybe _even more_ damage scaling. It's so hype as it handles now, and making it just a neutral reset would fundamentally gut the mechanic.
It's still good. That Fighters League finals proved it. People just have short attention spans with how much media and info is being bombarded these days.
Hey max, could you make a 2024 guide on the best way to keep up with fighting game tournaments as a viewer? I always wanted to get into them, but I have no idea when any of them are happening or which ones I should be looking out for.
pretty much always on twitch, some also stream on youtube. CapcomFighters is the official twitch/RUclips for all the CPT tournaments and SF league. the World Warrior tournaments were ran by local events tho so its harder to keep track of.

I think the recent world warrior / cpt tourney in japan is a better indicator of how the game has evolved at a high level. Sfl US and EU are probably from around Akis release. The recent tournaments have been fun to watch. Playing it can get frustrating though, especially with the region lock which is a shame.
Nope. Go watch FAV cup 3v3, which was USA vs EU vs Asia, and Mena's squad took it. The American, European, and Asian metas are different, and that's a good thing because SF5 had a mostly global meta where everyone was doing the same stuff.
I agree. We're finally approaching the point of FG design mastery. Reads. Reactions. Pacing. The correct amount of RPS and comboing for cashouts, resource building and usage.
This year SFL US is arguably the best compare to previous ones and we only in season 1 without balance update too. Imagine with Ed, Akuma, more DLC released + balance update, we could get morerrr hype moments. And AngryBird vs MenaRD is the highest level play for season 1 so far. Their Ken vs Luke are just fun to watch! Can't wait to see more high level play + hype moments in Capcom Cup :3
The title immediately makes me think of the FAV Cup 3v3 I recently watched and I've got to say, I think top level Street fighter is pretty fun to watch. There was some incredibly high level Street fighter going on there and it was pretty neat.
As much as I want to see Punk win a title like Evo, I like to see him get humbled. I love shit talk and players being passionate, but as long as they know they the best cause they can outplay every single person in front of them and still show respect to the other player. Never take shots at legends if they didnt deserve it.
My favorite moments in these high level matches are always the scrambles like in 11:07 It's so fun to watch these amazingly good players fumble together like that
The level of execution and how matches can just swing the in other direction like that makes it very fun to watch. The game's just going to get better as they throw new characters into the mix.
I just want to shout to the amount of focus and skill the best players in SF6 have, cause game is hard, it is hard to play on high level. It is just insane, you get tired just by watching them do what they do, this is nuts!
Why is it that every time max uploads the title gets changed? I get the notification, and it has a specific title, then I watch it a couple hours later and the title has changed.
SF remains king, but I despise the unified effort to neuter the executional skill ceiling (which seems to plague every single modern fighting game, Tekken 8 DEFINITELY included.) It's not just execution, either. Fighting game developers are clearly seeking to minimize mechanical difficulty as well. Just look at how much of Guilty Gear's soul was left on the cutting room floor when they were developing STRIVE.. Modern fighting games are being developed for the dullest among us, and that fucking sucks.
Ive been doing jiu jitsu and taekwondo for 3 and 2 years now and your on the dot with high level scrambles under pressure being the most hype and bringing out the best players its the so similar to a martial arts mentality.
The fact that they did 3 set that episode is even crazier. Like guys, go ahead and watch the whole final thingy. 3 best to 5 in the same 2h, yes please.
as a smash player the arguement that if stuff is easier to execute than it a bad game, not fun to watch, etc. etc. It just silly knowing how real skills come out and mind games that the game will never stay stagnant. Especially with new blood and the people going into the tank to find tech. Also gotta love how top tier is old guard ken vs new gen luke just doing SF things.
This is a weird question, considering this will be it until 6 years from now probably when SF7 comes out. Sure there will be variation releases but this is what we're stuck with for more than half a decade longer.
Saw the finals broadcast live after seeing the EVO final in person. It was SO hype seeing this matchup again. SF6 is a fighting game masterpiece. Ignore the haters. The game is FUN.

I don’t care if you call me a gatekeeper, If you say that set wasn’t entertaining, you just don’t belong in the FGC. Go find something else. That set was incredible. I’ve watched it at least 3 times from start to finish now including this video and it still blows my mind. Ps: can we talk about the ice someone has to have in their veins to do Luke’s Perfect (Black) Flash combos so consistently in high pressure moments like this?
Now just wait till after the Japanese players watch and disect this match and see what they come up with. High level. Its bonkers. For me who just made diamond 1 with Lily, feels bad man. Hoping some Balrog-esque figure graces this game. Missing my main.
Capcom finally made another great fighting game. SF6 is fantastic, and even more so on a high level. Parry is dangerous but necessary. They nailed it because even at low health a perfect parry can change the tide. Keeps every nervous no matter how ahead you are competitively.
After SFL USA ended I immediately went to the EVO 2023 playlist and rewatch the GF between these two, and it's crazy to see all the adjustments and improvements made to their gameplay in just a few months. I still think there needs to be 2 big balance patches/year, but when I think about this level of refinement in gameplay being forever denied to NRS players because of constant balance patches, I think unfrequent balancing is the lesser of the two evils.
MenaRD, Caba and Crossover are showing the great talent that we have for Esports here in the Dominican Republic! ¡Del patio pa´l mundo! Thanks for the great content always Max

Love it!
Even the commentator was so hyped that started shaking the lil’ bro 💀
Love this shi’; thank you capcom
That's how Steve says "Hi."
It's ALSO how he says "I'm thirsty, What is it?, Next, And, Or, But, Because, any Day Ending in "Y"...... xD
I’ve never watched any competitive fighting, that was dope. I’d love more videos of max commentating interesting matches
Showed this to my crush and she's suddenly really interested in learning sf6 with me as her teacher. I won boiz
I wish Capcom show us a Ed teaser or something Ed related.
me 2 man... its time already
eat what you were given (c) Capcom
Ed is seriously the fighter I've been wanting more than any one and I've been cycling mains since launch while waiting for him ever since he leaked with the original roster. It just makes me so mad that we've seen more of Akuma than him. Plus the last two fighters all came out within a 2 month period between each other with teases of them in-between. The Ed disrespect is real.
Or anything actual content related instead of 108$ costume packs or crossover events with only avatar stuff.
Could happen next week if he's releasing early February.
Endingwalker was so much fun to watch!!
hahaha never
@@lobocruz219 What you mean?
"Wah, wah top tier Kens and JPs"
Tell me you get folded online without telling me you get folded online.
Y'all must be new here and don't remember the dark ages of Phoenix and Vanilla Sagat. This is the most balanced it's ever been.
Literally skill issue.
when I first started watching it was fun; then learning the mechanics of the game it got even funner to watch
can we agree this game is so freaking good and deserves all the praise it got from the release up to now?
im saying this even in the betas, SF6 is getting in the conversations for the best Street FIghter ever, and probably the best fighting game ever, to soon to say, its is so amazing and its not even 1year old yet!!!!! Sorry mk1, but been messy as you are and getting this competition, you will have no chance this generation.
It deserves the praise for gameplay, but god is it expensive on multiple fronts. Base game + expanions and costumes for characters and avatars.
@@zackswitch9656 The costumes are pricy, but i only got one for cammy and yes, i care more about the gameplay

Street Fighter 6 is definitely a CLASSIC
Game is so good to watch, goddamn...
Thanks for speaking that truth outloud, Max. Twit sometimes makes us ask ourselves questions that have no business being asked... SF6 is thrilling to play and insane to watch at the highest level.
i barely play sf6 even though i own it. But the animations are so damn fluid.
This game is definitely the new Third Strike, it's intense and even more volatile. people will complain up and down because they can't handle it but that's the same thing that happened with TS back in the day. SF6 is most likely going to be remembered as one of the best fighting games of all time and it deserves it.
What a hecking dream match, sf6 is such an incredible game... sure is not perfect but damn, no actual fg give this kind of spectacle
Will be interesting to see what Capcom changes in the first big balance patch that comes out this year.
Game needs no balance patch bro...
@hbpencil490 Oh yes the Hell it DOES when Akuma come to the spot😂
@@jayg613 Skill gaps can't be patch man.
Of course we want a big patch, I don't just wanna be seeing Ken and Luke in Grand Finals every single tourney
High level Sf6 is so fun to watch! Ever since Evo 2023 Mena has been my favorite player to watch.
Max being all giddy about SF6 makes me so happy
It's still good. That Fighters League finals proved it. People just have short attention spans with how much media and info is being bombarded these days.
Hey max, could you make a 2024 guide on the best way to keep up with fighting game tournaments as a viewer? I always wanted to get into them, but I have no idea when any of them are happening or which ones I should be looking out for.
pretty much always on twitch, some also stream on youtube.
CapcomFighters is the official twitch/RUclips for all the CPT tournaments and SF league. the World Warrior tournaments were ran by local events tho so its harder to keep track of.
Keep up as a viewer or someone who wants to participate?
@@lamontsnipes5229i’m not the original commenter, but i want to keep up with street fighter 6 and guilty gear strive as a viewer!! but i’m in the same position as OP, i never know when they happen until after the fact. if anyone has advice, i’d love some!!
@@tksm97 I usually just watch punk or button check to keep up with tournaments and stuff
@@Jdrillagodlike thank you!!
16:46
this was f*kin crazy
drive meter refilling right before hitting wall and preventing stun
HOLY FFFFFF
This game is sick, dood.
This should be a series maybe not just limited to fighting games but what ever content you like call it heat check
I agree. We're finally approaching the point of FG design mastery. Reads. Reactions. Pacing. The correct amount of RPS and comboing for cashouts, resource building and usage.
This was so fun to watch! SF6 is so good. This top tier play is something else.
It’s fun to watch but man I wish there were more offline tournaments.
That was some good ass Street Fighter. Max needs to officially commentate a SF event as well, he's a natural and knowledgeable.
MenaRD reppin Dominican Republic 🇩🇴!!! Lo mas bacano!!!!
The title immediately makes me think of the FAV Cup 3v3 I recently watched and I've got to say, I think top level Street fighter is pretty fun to watch. There was some incredibly high level Street fighter going on there and it was pretty neat.
Love watching some SF6
As much as I want to see Punk win a title like Evo, I like to see him get humbled. I love shit talk and players being passionate, but as long as they know they the best cause they can outplay every single person in front of them and still show respect to the other player. Never take shots at legends if they didnt deserve it.
Punk will never win EVO cause all he does is complain.
My favorite moments in these high level matches are always the scrambles like in 11:07
It's so fun to watch these amazingly good players fumble together like that
This reminded me how much fun this game is. I can't wait to jump back in. Just waiting for a certain someone to finally show up...
A Kuma?
Something about Angrybird's eyebrow movements at 7:11 was just killing me. 😆
The core mechanics are very well thought out. I haven't played much SF6 but the tournaments are so fun to watch.

SF6 is extremely fun and entertaining to watch. Never a dull moment. Whereas MK1's tourneys got stale 2 weeks after release.
As much as I liked MK1, its because everyone goes for the same 40-50 percent kameo combo. It's always the same race.
12:19 one of the best parts about some fighting games
Not only perfect parries but perfect timing with Luke's special skills. MenaRD is incredible.
The way Max described it is essentially how it should feel to simulate a fight. He perfectly described the essence of fighting
True
It's a canon lore fight too since Ken was the one who gave a scar to Luke face.
Hey, it would be cool if you linked and credited the original tournament stream in the description. I'd watch more of this
Awesome Max.
There is nothing better than a good Fun Street Fighter Game, that everyone is having Playing.
The game is FUN.
the first time in a long time i want to watch finals for any fighting game.
good show
I love Tekken 8 but I recently went back to Street fighter 6
I got my son street fighter 6 for Christmas and he's really good already. He's only 7. I take it easy on him when we play Tekken 7 but in street fighter 6, he's schooling me.

how do we still not have an ED trailer.
I think Ed won't be out until after cpt and akuma around the anniversary
I don’t care if you call me a gatekeeper,
If you say that set wasn’t entertaining, you just don’t belong in the FGC.
Akuma is getting revealed soon for SF VI
What about Ed 😭
lmao nah buddy .... Ed is next
@@azurraathey just skip ed and go straight to Akuma 😂

Just. Nuts. N.V.T.S! o.o
This reminds me of 3rd strike how fir so long people weren't good at it then it became the most popular for how secretly deep it can be
Capcom finally made another great fighting game. SF6 is fantastic, and even more so on a high level. Parry is dangerous but necessary. They nailed it because even at low health a perfect parry can change the tide. Keeps every nervous no matter how ahead you are competitively.
Yupppp love every minute of it
After SFL USA ended I immediately went to the EVO 2023 playlist and rewatch the GF between these two, and it's crazy to see all the adjustments and improvements made to their gameplay in just a few months.
I still think there needs to be 2 big balance patches/year, but when I think about this level of refinement in gameplay being forever denied to NRS players because of constant balance patches, I think unfrequent balancing is the lesser of the two evils.
Holy god their reactions are superhuman 😮
I just entered Gold 4 & this game is still a blast. It's my first deep dive into a fighting game though so, maybe I'm not burnt out.
MenaRD, Caba and Crossover are showing the great talent that we have for Esports here in the Dominican Republic! ¡Del patio pa´l mundo! Thanks for the great content always Max
this game is absolutely great
it does need a few tweeks but its minor ones
mk1 is harder to balance rn then sf6 will ever be like the capcom fight team really killed it w this game
Spot on analysis, plus it always challenges players on various spectrums, per frame discernment on fundamentals 😂
