My 86 year old aunt heard me playing this song and asked who it was and that she wanted to hear more. So of course I played "Demon of the Fall" for her.
I do not understand why some fans only like the "heavy" times of Opeth. They are fucking gods writing all kinds of music. That's the reason why I love them. You must be a fan of music and not only a metal fan. Long live Opeth!
I love their slow stuff. Mikael's clean singing voice has gotten just spectacular over the last several years. I just dont like Prog even though historically their songs had a lot of prog elements to them. Prog from start to finish is annoying to me. I dont want to go back to the 70s. The 70s werent fun for me. :)
I wish opeth would receive more admiration across the musical spectrum.some of their work is timeless and classic.mikaels voice gets better and better.
Why is that important ? Why would the ones of us who like Opeth care what other ppl thinks of it? In fact, I would argue some idiots could even use popularity as a reason not to like Opeth (sell out or whatnot), so just let it be and enjoy their music! BTW: I do think they receive plentiful of admiration from the musical community in general - rightfully so.
So much blues. One of the biggest reasons I have the O tattoo'd on my back. I can feel the sorrow of the protagonist thru the lyrics, the vocals, the blues guitar riffs. But at the same time they create this feeling of hope thru the sorrow. Its poetry.
Opeth portray Feelings so well in there music...my best personal example would be Dirge of November....just pure dread, helplessness and giving up...all through a heavy hodge podge of guitars, growling and slow heavy bass drums.
I don't understand why people don't like Opeth anymore. There is so much emotion in their music. And how about the keyboard in this song? Pretty badass if you ask me.
Jack D. Too many people worrying about what once was and not what is or will be. They're stuck in the past and not listening to the message. I myself like heavy screaming and griwling metal, but this is great too.
Curtis Lofgren Some folks just cant handle change, as a new listener to Opeth I think their work is absolute genius, and that's in regards to all the albums. Watershed and Blackwater Park are my faves easily. Also, the positive and negative emotions in their music tells a story, one minute its really mellow then BAM! Just so unexpected yet beautiful. Whats funny is that it makes sense to certain listeners, generally those who have philosophies about life, because life itself is just one crazy ride, ups and downs, thrills and chills, ( Bill Hicks ) and it can be expressed with music, even the earlier bands such as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin have demonstrated this through their work.
Heritage is a damn fine album I believe, nothing wrong with experimenting, why stop learning. Even the album art is pretty cool and has a lot of meaning behind it. I don't know, each to their own I guess.
Kirill Maksjura No one said they had to stop learning or experimenting. The issue for me and many others was the total departure from progressive deathmetal and changing the entire sound to 70's progrock. Watershed was the last Opeth album in my book. It's a matter of taste, that's it.
Since they happen, one after another, you could have written :time stamp, then - here come the solos. I assure, no one used other stamps, but first one 😂
Before I headed to Antioch for my obligatory military service (which took one year) I was listening to this song at the airport while waiting for my flight, with no one to bid me a farewell. I was alone and about to head to an unknown land, into people I've never met. As the moment of departure comes, I turned my phone off and flew to Syria border and the great suspense that awaits me, with major doubts, concerns in my mind. As I hear all the gunfire and cannon uproar during night sentries I kept listening to this. This song holds so many memories and feelings for me.
As far as musical integrity goes I find Watershed to be the magnus opus of Opeths repertoire...The songs are extraordinarily well tended-to and complemented by flawless engineering. As a whole, it's evident in its' pacing/structure that Mikael was crafting a nod to the art form of an "album". He was doubtlessly steering away from metal in that album, but even when he didn't he approached the conventions from a fresh angle. Didnt want to leave this comment but no-one else was saying it.
Mikaels truly has a beautiful voice. This can be confirmed by listening to him sing live. There ain't no difference between his recordings and singing live. That's something special.
The keyboard solo is just fantastic. Without a doubt one of my favorite moments from Per! I'm gonna miss him. Oh, and this song is nothing less than legendary, I just wish they didn't cut out the insane acoustic part at the end!
I once upon a time- carried a burden inside- some will ask, goodbye- a broken line but underlined- there's an ocean of sorrow in you- sorrow in me- saw a movement in their eyes- said, i no longer knew the way- given up the ghost- a passing minds and it's a fear- in the wait for redemption ahead- waiting to fail-(...)- failing again- if death should take me now- count my mistakes and let me through- whisper in my ear- you've taken more than we've received- and the ocean of sorrow is you--
I remember seeing a video of Opeth playing Burden live - Mikel said "this next song was supposed to be a big break for us but it.....wasn't.." lol. Great tune, can't wait for Pale Communion.
its really cool how these guys can play progresive death metal and still make amazing songs like this, im a metalhead, and dont typically listen to this light singing stuff, but these guys can pull it off!
Amazing song. I nevered listened to this ambum until the other day and i must say im sad i slept on this stuff for so long. Watershed is fantastic from the opening with coil. To this beauitful dark masterpiece opeth has touched my soul and heart once again. I CANT WAIT to see themfor the first time at the warfield in san francisco later this year.
I read the story behind the song, it's kinda scary to watch now. Lady playing with the red scarf throughout the video which eventually suffocates her at 3:13. Very sad too. Beautiful song. I'll do a cover someday.
My 86 year old aunt heard me playing this song and asked who it was and that she wanted to hear more. So of course I played "Demon of the Fall" for her.
You should also play her Heir Apparent, it's such a mellow song
Hahahahaha
I hope she liked: Run away, run awaaay, run awaaaaayyy!))))))))))))

This era of Opeth is freakin golden, Mikaels voice is just 👌🏼
is it possible to be attracted to a singing voice?
Mikael sings like an angel ❤ So gifted in so many ways
As he calls it "cleen" I would agree
This misic tebirthed modetn music midetn tock for me
Man that keyboard solo is godly

exactly!!
i second that
It's an analogy to the unfairness of a life not lived.
@@erick_bcd_37 Hahahahaha :'D
The piano intro is cut too...
This is old now but that organ solo makes me grin from ear to ear every time, like how can you not feel that
jon lord
epic solo
Per Wiberg is a master.
And the bass compliments it so nicely, they're all masters of their craft
Old? I disagree,music is timeless,sometimes dated
if you're here then you have good taste

gtdrummerdude I have the O tattoo'd on my back, too! My favorite!
Planning on tattooing it on my left arm personally

Curtis Lofgren Most of the old fans like Watershed though. Heritage was when things started to get controversial.
Heritage is a damn fine album I believe, nothing wrong with experimenting, why stop learning. Even the album art is pretty cool and has a lot of meaning behind it. I don't know, each to their own I guess.

Recently discovered Opeth. The screaming thing is not my style, but this song and this goddamn keyboard solo I mean holy shtttttttt it's so good.
Welcome friend 🖤
If you were an angry person like I am, you'd understand the screaming. More like growling, but I digress. It is its own form of therapy.
@@jasonashley9853 Lmao I drive to work blasting Ghost of Perdition. It honestly is therapy!
You'll probably get into the screaming just by exposure over time lol
each of these men could be in any L'Oreal Paris advert lol

This song makes me cry it's so damn beautiful.

Also look up "Fly on the Windshield" by Steve Hackett and Genesis.

Opeth is a perfect band
Hard to believe Mikael’s voice is so soft and gentle after first hearing him in Bloodbath 🤘🏻❤️
He’s grown a lot since morningrise. Literally night and day clean voice.
I think this is one of the greatest songs ever written
opeth just gets better and better tbh
Akerfelt's voice is impeccable
One of the best solo I've heard love you opeth
Best track off Watershed hands down!
So emotional, wow!
How is this not a Bond theme?
Burden one of fav Opeth song ❤
Cherish the memories🎶🙏🎵
One of the most beautiful solo guitar ever. The tale of it should have been in the video, it made me cry the first time I heard.
Still a brilliant song 14(!) years on. And it will be in a hundred.
so much beauty in melancholy

cheers from polish dudes, we have met about 16 years ago in NJ at vintage vinyl(Fords NJ), you guys are awesome. na zdrowie
this is one of the only bands where Schecter, Gibson, and Fender collaborate to bring an amazing fusion of jazz, blues, metal, and emotion. GO OPETH!
Epic and beautiful song - Opeth are simply so far ahead of everyone else it is not even close
Never get tired of this song
For Lisha. Depressing this song was the last thing I got to share with you. Rest easy beautiful soul, you no longer have to carry a burden inside ❤
love you opeth since the day i listen to you guys. there is no salvation for my soul, but since that day i had an endless shelter...
This is the most beautiful song and has been my favourite for years.

Damn that organ solo was spicy
Per Wiberg is very active in Swedish metal and prog rock scene. He played with numerous bands : Opeth, Candlemass, Anekdoten, Arch Enemy, etc
THIS SONG....its magical
There are so much ghost notes from that snare that years latter they're still haunt me.

many opeth songs are more than 10 minutes long. i wish this song was that long too. instead, i listen to it three times in a row :P

I like this shorter version of the song a lot more than the original! this version get straight to the point!
What point? That solo in the original version is out of the world genius.
A song has no "point". A piece of music is a thing of beauty in its totality. Just like poetry.
Great keyboard run. Just great music from Opeth.
