LYRICS
I once upon a time
Carried a burden inside
Some will ask, goodbye
A broken line but underlined
There's an ocean of sorrow in you
Sorrow in me
Saw a movement in their eyes
Said, I no longer knew the way
Given up the ghost
A passing minds and it's a fear
In the wait for redemption ahead
Waiting to fail
Failing again
If death should take me now
Count my mistakes and let me through
Whisper in my ear
You've taken more than we've received
And the ocean of sorrow is you
Solo at the end makes me well up in tears
+David King Somos dos!!! Me too David!!! It has so much passion in it...

Been a long time since your comment but I agree. Makes the well flow like a motherfucker.
4:08 to end is the most beautiful rhymth i have ever listened
The tingling in my cheeks sent soundwaves out my ears and into the multiverse.

that outro at the end is magical.
Guitar Harmonics
An outro is pretty always at the end 😜
Out of tune guitar
The bass slides around 2:45!
I know I'm in the minority but it sounds like shit.
My friend played this song in her car today. I was reminded how much I love this song. Heck, I love the entire album. Watershed is fucking amazing!!!
@@Tyler-nj5dr me too
that ending is fucking crazy
FourAngelsX Its almost like someone is just unwinding his tunning pegs while he still plays it lol
+RBdestroyer3321 A beautiful melody slowly descending into madness or darkness.
+FourAngelsX I always thought it was about music evolution ^^
A bit like the turn Climbing Up The Walls by Radiohead takes
The ending is genius. It's musically well thought-off and of course the symbolism.
That's not easy to pull off.
Happy 2016 Opeth fans

If you are still listenting to this in 2022 ... you are doing nothing special. A lot of us are. The songs beautiful and we all know it.
I'm sure someone else had probably said this before but the very beginning, it really sounds like Daft Punk- Within, to me at least. Am I the only one that hears that? Either way beautiful song!
The end sounds like me trying to play the rest of the song.

This band has one of the most beautiful uses of dissonance
It’s freaking poetic!

Bleak 😂
Well, a minor 2nd is always in a major chord technically and there is a minor second in harmonic minor
Mastered
yes yes yes yes
It speaks the language of my soul which has no words.
So how then my good sir it's speaks the language if it has no words?
+x3kk Music is a way for us to put emotion into a language we can all understand.
Music does not speak a language. Music is sound. Sound tells no story (or language with no words?), it conveys emotion. Lyrics are not music, they are words (or "language") all lyrics tell a story, so go read a book. I get what you were trying to say, but it's soo cliche.
kos setk
x3kk it whispers to my soul in ways that not even love can compare. In loves absence, music soothes me. I lie in content as one.
The part where the backup singers' final "ahhhh" fades into the guitar solo...it goes so 3 dimensional it feels like it sinks right into your soul.

Damn i shoulda read some of these comments before i went on a rant of my own about 'hardcore fans' having no idea of the real lyrics (even this channel got it wrong!).. I posted the same correction, but it gladdens my dark heart to see another true fan here among so many pretenders lol...

I was introduced to Opeth with this song, so f*ing high, with earphones in, sitting on a sack of weed, under a hill, at sunset ,watching golden sunrays passing through the silhouette of trees. I will never forget the experience. Been 12 years since that day. The greatest band for me.
i bet the outro scared the shit out of you

yes, as the entire album
4:08-6:18 is arguably my favorite Opeth moment. Which says a lot considering how great their discography is as a whole
Yea man.. Is something like the nostalgia of our old purity that leaved in this world and our childhood!! Opeth forever best
love that crying guitar solo. very melodic and emotional
i agree, fascinating solo.
Opeth doesn't need to growl to be cool! Mikael has one of the best voices. I'm glad He and Wilson crossed paths

Idk what it is about Opeth, but they always evoke an image in my mind of misty forests, brick and ivy. I have never run into another band that does that.

I can't get enough, dammit. I literally listen to this at least once a day.
Tyler Best same dude!
Why isn't this song on American radio stations. It is very good, not to metal, the women would melt to it, just kill the outro and you are good to go.
Before the Legendary Opeth I didn't know what music is, and I didn't like trending stuff and stopped listening to any music, but then Opeth opened my eyes to music and so to the world. I've even became a musician myself.
Opeth is higher dimensional and gave me the proper standard and scale to discover other tasteful music.
Every one is growing old! But this song isn't! pure class\,,/
I've met this band three times at shows and they are such kind, humble guys.
i only saw them once didnt get to meet them though :(

even with the lyrics in the video description you managed to fail :O
How two guitarists can play such magical and heavenly notes in a solo?? Did Akerfeldt and Akesson taken LSD before writing this song. And the bass notes are just OMG!! I love you Opeth.
I know, that you are joking, but in an interview they said it was pretty easy to solo over this track, after finding the first note, it just flows.
@@kevetoth315 That's how you know where the solo goes! If it don't jive you can't force one. Goes terribly every time.
@Keve Tóth easy ? Bro what this is literally arguably one of the best solos ever created on Earth
@@kevetoth315 i mean LSDing for music is not a bad idea at all. You just have to have peace of mind before taking on a trip, otherwise bad-trips ensue.
@@gurrenmed5319good solo doesn't supposed to be hard. In fact, most if the really iconic and instantly recognizable solos are quite playable
I would actually say this is probably the best song ever made
It's definitely my number one.
It's up there with age of aquarius villagers of ioannina city.
perfect music for September, October and November
I was deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq when i accidentally found opeth on our "morale " server. That was in 2004 so i think they were up to blackwater park, but i was an instant fan... Damnation was my favorite album as whole but all of them are good up till they released heritage and beyond... But none the less still my favorite band. Favorite artist would be Dax Riggs though, give him a listen, i'm sure if you like this you'll love dax too!
Nobody puts Opeth on a morale server. That's what vengaboys are for
Fuck usa soldiers and fuck the iraq invasion
NGL Heritage has it’s moments. It’s still a feat in it’s own league. Pale Communion however is a bit over produced.
But if you’re going to listen to Heritage, it’s better to Segway it into Storm Corrosion, that little Collaboration Mikeal and Steven Wilson did together.

The ending, the breaking voice with the chorus, the guitars pairing with the drums, the symphony, the bass making a total sea of emotions (sad emotions) what an incredible masterpiece.

I always give credit where it's due, this has to be the best song I've heard in a long time, it's as if they combined Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd!
Greatest song ever heard..!!
'Harvest' is a beautiful song too.
Indeed
I thought this band is some sort of death/black metal (❤). But they so soothing.. Why i just found out this precious

I've heard this song many times on radio but I remember once in 2022 I was on a car ride back from school and it started playing again and I decided to shazam it because of that guitar at 5:12. But then my mom turned off the radio and I was like "eh I'll just do it the next time I hear it. I've heard it so much already I doubt I won't hear it again soon." But since then I hadn't heard it ONCE. Then, recently, I was randomly listening to radio when I heard the "ahhh"s and I knew I had found it. Absolutely love it.
This made me very sad
THE song that decribes my breakup. Opeth are really something other and this song hits in the feelz. The Akerfeelz. Fuck I love this song.
