Be informed about this issue. Did you know the amount of concussions in soccer isn't that much less than football? We have a media portraying soccer as this safe alternative to football. Maybe it is at 8,9 and even 10 but eventually soccer is a rough sport also. Bottom line is sports involve injury. If you don't want your kids getting bumps and bruises then put them in swim and golf. Another thing. If you run into that parent that won't allow their kids to play football but yet watch the Huskers every fall saturday call them hypocrites. So you deny your child the experience of playing but relish in other people kids out there playing that "vicious" sport. assholes.

the World-Herald printed a piece written by me on the subject. Yes there are long term issues with football but we need to re-teach the game. For 3 decades ever since the helmet was improved in the 70's we have glorified the helmet to helmet hit. Now we need to teach tackling not "hitting". Though rough football is still a safe game for kids. In fact our High School had the most kids go out for football in a decade last fall.

Sorry I agree with the ref, you just got ejected the week before so you know that anything else even remotely close it's going to get cold and you still do it you jeopardize the whole game for your teammates I coach for 20 years if I was your coach I kick your ass, and for that commentator who claims that you have a choice of being hit in the knees and ending your career or being hit in the head it ain't being a goof 20 years later in life, I don't believe that's the only choice you have you go back 20 years and watch NFL games college games everybody seem to be able to tackle and give good hard hits without any head-to-head contact or without breaking someone's knees

The reason he called targetjng is because the kid who got hit by Gerry was black and the ref who called it was black

Ok the radio announcer analysis on how you'd rather be hit in the head is false..... You can still achieve a solid fundamental tackle without contact with the head or the knee. That's being said this is a terrible penalty and shouldn't have been called.

I don't care if it was the wrong call, Gerry and the Huskers get no sympathy from me. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of jerks.

I played football in high school more than 50 years ago as a D back and wide receiver! Nate Gerry's tackle was exactly the way we were taught! It was meant to be a hard-hitting and in-your-face game! Don't play it if you're a cry baby sissy pants!
