    Okay I understand the on-field officials calling it as it's a split second decision, but the fact that the guys upstairs lack the mental brain capacity to overturn these absolutely shocks me

      Can’t the refs overturn the guys upstairs though? There the ones that say the call.

      The officials on the field have to call any helmet to helmet contact. Player repetitive injuries and the speed of the game force the on field Umps to make the call.
      The problem is where the upstairs umps are drawing the line. Right now it's basically any helmet to helmet contact and you're gone. They really need to address this.

      Benjamin Miiller if it’s a big hit fuck the guy that got hit, if it was my kid I’d say get hit or hit someone, football is a violent sport that’s like saying no punching in UFC, just keep it clean and if it’s ACTUALLY targeting then fuck that they shouldn’t be allowed to play.

    The NCAA needs to do a comprehensive study of every "targeting" call. Most times when a defensive player is shorter and is tackled like the Nebraska game, and a helmet is grazed they get called for targeting. It's completely bull shit!

    How are any of these "referees" referees anynore? I can 100% understand making a questionable call first, they have split seconds to see and make a decision, it's not easy. However, they spend minutes rewatched it in slow motion, seeing the exact same things we do and they STILL uphold bad calls just so they don't have to be embarrassed backtracking. They need to be fired for putting their egos before the rules.

    • @Subangelis
      @Subangelis 7 лет назад +10

      Apparently, you don't understand how the system works. It isn't the NFL where the referees on the field look at replays. It's a different set of refs looking at them.

    • @tyruss23
      @tyruss23 7 лет назад +17

      Subangelis Gaming same thing though. The NCAA would rather have the call be confirmed and make their refs look good(because they hired them) then make them look bad by reversing their bad call.

    • @brock2249

    The only one I think was a reasonable call was the Kentucky vs. SC. • @joshrogers7068
      @joshrogers7068 6 лет назад +1

      Weeb No it isn't. Targeting has two separate lists of specific occurrences that are used to determine if something is indeed targeting. The rule specifically refers to "forcible contact to the head or neck area with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder." The rule also goes into launching at another player and using the crown of the helmet to lead into the tackle.

    Imo, not all of these were bad calls. The first and last ones were absolute bullshit, both cases where the defender was consciously doing everything possible to avoid targeting. The fourth one (the Michigan one) was also absurd, considering the refs should easily have been able to see on the replay that the player was thrown into the qb.
    The second and third ones, though, I think should stand. The ND player lowered his head and led with the crown of his helmet, and the South Carolina player led with his helmet straight into the receiver's chin while the receiver was in the process of attempting a catch, both of which are textbook examples of what should be called for targeting.

    the real crime is not the call on the field, things happen very quickly and it must be hard to tell in a split second...but the fact that these get reviewed upstairs and upheld is soul crushing

    Football is no longer fun. Too many restrictions on the players. It is a contact sport. You should expect for injuries to occur. These rules just destroy the fun in the game. Probably why I watch the NBA more than I use to.

    It's kinda funny how some of the refs like the one from the Stephon Tuitt hit sound so disappointed and somber when confirming the ejection, like even they know it's a bullshit call but the rules technically say it has to be done.

    This garbage is ruining football. The players know the risks. Let them play the damn game like it's supposed to be played. I don't think targeting should apply to any play except for when a WR isn't looking and it's helmet to helmet or a QB is sliding and it's helmet to helmet. Half the time they call targeting just because it's a big hit, even if the defender leads with their shoulder. BS.

    I dont get how face mask to face mask hits somehow fall under targeting. I dont even know how the word targeting is a rule. By definition, every tackled player was targeted for the tackle. Football in the modern age is a fucking joke.
    *Edit:* 6:20 is the worst example. That is a textbook tackle!!! He even turns his head away as not to get called for targeting and gets it called anyways!!! Do officials wanna see ankle tackles at all fucking times!! So infuriating!

    needs to be some rule changes about intent and whether or not the offensive player changed level during the approach. Especially when these quarterbacks are lowering there shoulder into 300 lbs defensive lineman. You need a knock upside your head maybe it'll jar some logic into you.

    soon, defensive players will have to send a notarized, registered letter to offensive players stating they are going to hit them. but even then, they will only be allowed contact after being 100% sure, said offensive player has read the letter.

    I'm kind of ok with the South Carolina ejection, but the rest were horrible. I can understand how some of these were called in real time, but the thing that makes me angry is that all of them had instant replay and STILL made the wrong call.

  • @ThatDonChannel

    A few of those were questionable, but I think the second one was a good call.
    The problem is, the rulebook is quite clear:
    (a) If there is any doubt, the official should throw the flag
    (b) If there is any doubt in the review, the call stands
    I think (b) needs to be changed to "if there is any doubt, the 15-yard penalty can stand, but the player remains in the game."

    0:50 this one is absolutely the right call, by the letter of the law. Defender initiated contact with the crown of his helmet. Automatic ejection, whether the ball carrier was considered defenseless or not. Gotta keep your head up

    • @blackdragonsaber7956

      He led with his shoulder, QB ducked at the last minute, which isn’t his fault. How the hell is that targeting?

  • @GoUtes92
    @GoUtes92 6 лет назад +1

    I think this is a good example of a college rule that's written too vaguely. It would be good for the game if there was a reliable rule meant to discourage flagrant or malicious targeting hits instead of ejecting guys that are trying to make a normal hit and then mistime the hit. Frankly, offensive players are using it to their advantage. (With a price, granted). But it's gotta feel convenient for any offensive player that all you have to do is duck your head and then go "oh look, I drew a targeting flag".
