If Bono And The Edge Started A Pop Punk Band (U2 Cover)

- Last week, Tyler came to me with a suggestion: U2's classic "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", which honestly gives Fall Out Boy a run for their money in terms of song titles. But yeah, it worked out great and we were able to add a lot of fun production elements to keep things fresh this week. Hope you enjoy!

I wouldn’t mind if this was forcibly placed into my iTunes library back in 2014.
I stiiiilllll haaaaaven't fooouunnd, how to get that shit off my phone.
@@bmass0828 Pretty sure that album is the reason I started paying for Spotify.
Omg right?! Get outta here
What a phenomenal comment
good one
This cover is what Bono was looking for.
Hahahahaha
This would have cleaned up. Number 1
No joke, this has the energy of a huge live arena performance - I can almost hear the crowd singing with you. Would be amazing to see you do a series of "live arena" versions of other tracks.
Yeah Alex needs to get a live band together and do a concert tour next year! Would be so amazing to see this at Glastonbury and get a real fucking good sing along going
I'd be in his band. I can do vocals, guitar or drums🎤🥁🎸😎
This song had some real edge 😉
Ahhhhhh I see what you did there
This is probably the best cover/genre change you've done dude. Holy shit. I had the U2 Greatest Hits of 1980-1990 on repeat in my walk man growing up, and this song was one of the reasons.
Hey me too. Then one day my walkman decides to eat my cassette. I managed to stop it before it did too much damage. I don't have that walkman. But I still have that cassette.
Yes! Great album. "Bad" is super-underrated imo.
I went into the comments to say this same thing
Same bro. Dad gave me a CD Walkman and said go and pick a CD from his pile. I picked the Greatest Hits of 80's - 90s because it had a little boy with a hat. I played the everything out of that album for many years. And then U2 got kinda bad from 2000 on wards haha
@@Nutty... repaired with selotape so you have a second of silence mid song? ;-)
Moooooooooonstrous vocals on this one Alex. Really just stellar stuff.
Been a musician for 35 years and a U2 fan for almost as long. This is the greatest U2 cover I've ever laid my earballs on.
I knew it was gonna be good before I pressed play, but holy crap. You’re constantly putting out bangers, but this is elevated. On top of it all, probably the best vocal performance to date. Great, GREAT job. Like damn.
Alex. This is no everyday song you covered. Just the guitar alone is an epic undertaking.
This is the best song you have done to date yet. I love it start to finish. you are beyond talented. Love the tele riffs.
I have found what I’m looking for 😍🥰
If you made a U2 covers record I would not be mad. Killed it as always Alex
It is my personal belief that it is the mark of a really good song, when you can shift genres and styles with it, and it still resonates. This was a great cover, and it still flows great
My man, you have an amazing ability to capture the essence of a song and somehow also make it feel like it was always meant to be a pop-punk banger. Magnificent.
Pop punk U2 has some strong praise and worship vibes! Lovin it
It’s the other way around. A generation (maybe more than a generation at this point) of worship leaders copied U2. Drums forward, lots of delay, loud guitars, etc.
Gives me that Thrice "it's probably about religion, but it bangs" feeling.
@@dougherbert7899exactly. 👍🏼
I remember hearing this from my college choir director that a lot of U2's songs point to Jesus :)
I would think... This comment probably needs an uno reverse card asterisk, right? Cause it's the other way around, I believe. But if you don't know both of them in contextual time frames within reality, you wouldn't know this, and u2 hasn't had a hit in awhile, maybe ever again. The forced itunes library addition of their album was the last I remember hearing of them, and that's obviously not because of a hit single. Haha.
This has The Dangerous Summer written all over it as well ❤
Came here to say exactly that.
Such an underrated band
Alex has given them a lot of love over the years
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. It speaks to me on levels I never knew music could. This is the ONLY cover I've ever liked, let alone loved as much as I do. The problem with most is they're just not believable. U2 is a passionate band, and you brought the passion in a way that nobody else has since U2 themselves.
I just went back and listened to U2’s version and it sounds like a bad cover of this one. Just can’t figure out why that one has hundreds of millions of views and this has 30k. Come on people let’s get this dude to go viral, he’s the best!
Many things people like you will never figure out
Also want to give a shoutout to your recording buddy who makes all of this music and video with you. He doesn’t get enough love. You guys are a great duo!
So angels and airwaves? J/k this is so rockin’!
I have a theory that you can tell how good a song is by how good its covers are....by that standard this song is phenomenal lol
*chefs kiss*
0:17 that first riff immediately made me thing of Facepalm Mute by Periphery lol
This is what Angels and Airwaves should have been. Thank you Alex for giving me closure.
As a diehard U2 fan I never thought I'd see them featured on your amazing channel... this is so freaking good!
The vocals on this give a strong The Wonder Years vibe and I love it!
The fact that you rock the hell out of a telecaster is delightful. Musically, you're a gem. It's genius in concept and even better in execution.
Check out a guitarist named Keith Richards, he does a pretty good job rockin’ a Telecaster.
Check out Ritchie Kotzen orJohn 5, then. They'll rock your socks off
@@Gpmeme948😂
I already loved this song.... but this.... this is it!!
AMAZING! True Talent! Keep the vids coming.
DUDE. Been following you awhile and have loved all of the covers, but this is HANDS DOWN your best work yet. Keep killing it man.
Sounds a bit like Angels and airwaves “mercenaries”
I feel like that was a perfect marriage of Angels & Airwaves along with Hum…crazy good. That said, this is one of the ONLY times I can say that the cover didn’t blow away the original. It was amazing and I do love it, but how can you not also love the original!?? A different take on a classic is always a welcome thing!!
It sounds like some of the more experimental tracks on Tom's "To The Stars..." records. Especially near the beginning, Landscapes, Animals, The Invisible Parade, etc.
I sure wish Angles and Airwaves released more stuff.
I definitely hear the HUM influence at the end!!
This is the cover I've been looking for--I knew it would be amazing--and it was even better!
This was everything I needed it to be and even if I'm sure you hear it often you doing these covers makes my days a lot brighter. Thanks man for everything.
Dang, Alex! My jaw dropped at the first line and remained that way. 😍
Dude. a buddy just sent me this. If someone were to ask "what kind of music are you into" I would just point them here. Checks every box for me. Well done.
Goodness gracious Alex. Once again you knocked it out of the park.
Wow. This is probably my favorite cover you've done. Just amazing!
Isn't this basically what Angels & Airwaves is?
This is awesome man, probably my favorite you've done
Damn dude, this is one of my favorites of your arrangements. Amazing!
So.... It's angels and airwaves
Rod Stewart has some bangers that would sound amazing as pop punk spinoffs.
Goosebumps! I sit here and feel every emotion you put in this song 🥹
Nicely done cover. U2 and AvA are my two favourite bands of all time, and now you got me really wanting to see what you could do with a Pop punk cover of U2's song 'Bad'.
Lately, I've been missing this punk rock sound so I went back listening to the songs I grew up with. The nostalgia ❤ this is perfection.
Love this! The beginning reminded me of "I Feel So" by Boxcar Racer, which is a favorite!
Thank you! I knew that the opening sounded similar and you saved me an afternoon of going insane trying to remember what song it was.
@@Sudsyw0lf Lol! Happy to help!
So Neighbourhoods era Blink 182? Where Tom brought his AVA/U2 influence to the band? haha
You took a mediocre song and made it worse.
Amazing work bro. Still captures the epic feelings of the original but rocks harder! I would kill to hear a rendition of “where the streets have no name.”
Simply one of the greatest songs of all time.
going to say the super obvious to any music fans, if you take on a U2 cover as a project you must inherently realize the pressure to meet or exceed the quality of their music. Say what you want for music tastes, doing a "good" or "decent" cover for U2 is a goal. Alex you not only delivered but you knocked it out of the park. If Bono heard this version he'd be proud you did it justice.
This shit is legendary. You really outdid yourself Alex.
Hehehe, Angels and Airwaves still haven't found what they're looking for up in those stars XD Amazing cover, Melton!
Hey man. Out of the electric kits you have had/played, which one have you loved the best for doing what you do? Want to get myself a kit just for funz and recording some beats. Not for a band or anything. Thanks
Alex’s music makes me feel things that music hasn’t made me feel in a long time.
Great cover!!! So fun! I was recommended this after watching a cover of the song from Sing 2 lol
Damn bro, you just got a new sub! I found what I wasn't even looking for with this cover! Keep it up!
So you still found what you weren't looking for? That's musical! AND existential!
They considered themselves a punk band when they started. Their music is garbage though
this shows how much tom was influenced by u2 for ava. same with the u2 influence hitting 30stm for this is war. so sick!
Dude, like WHERE DO YOU COME FROM??!?!! You have so much talent. Everything about this is perfection 🤌 thank you for putting this out in the world for ua to discover. Cant wait to play it on repeat on Spotify
I've listened to this recording atleast 40 times... it only gets better every time. Beautifully done. 👏👏👏👏
😮 Dude! You went after U2 and you crushed it!!! I don’t know the proper terminology for it all but your ability to sing everywhere is just mind boggling to me. Holy cow man. So good. ✌️🤩
This is one of my favorite U2 songs. And you've done it justice. Impossible, but you did it! Awesome!
This song is already epic. And then you did this! Awesome job man! You gonna play any shows in the Columbia area anytime soon???
Absolutely nailed it. Very happy with the song choice. Couldn’t have been any better. You’re super talented dude! Deserve all subs, views, and comments you could get. Keep it up.
Can you please do a pop punk version of Nothing Compares 2 U?? I feel like you would crush that. My Warped Tour tribute band covered your cover of All Star a few months ago and it was great
As a lifelong fan of both U2 and Pop Punk this rules. Adam Clayton, their bassist is actually a huge fan of My Chem and FOB and the like. Wonder what he'd say about this
I want to like this. I really do. It’s an extremely well done cover that takes it to new places. I kinda feel like over all though it’s stuck in your formula.
I know this is gonna be unpopular here, but it didn’t make me want to forget I had heard the original like when you did Everlong, or Drops of Jupiter.
I still really want to like it. Awesome parts, amazing vocals (seriously Bono is a tough act to follow). But I feel like I’ve already heard this one before. Please don’t stop though. You have a real gift for reimagining songs.
U2 started out as a punk band. This is what ISHFWILF would have sounded like if it'd been on Boy.
I suddenly wanna hear if “The Sex Pistols” wrote ‘All the small things’ By Blink-182.
I've had a tough year but your videos always bring me joy. Thanks!
The "The Academy Is..." vibes are strong
I love it! Had a really great modern field. I’m curious what was your vocal chain? Obviously a lot of that is your tone, but everything was so clean with spoons. Really nice mixing.
Alex Melton covering an unadulterated U2 bop.
Guess I've found what I'm looking for after all.
Muy bueno...cuando venis para Argentina?..saludos crack
Dude, your stuff is always rockin' but this is friggin' FILTHY!!! Blown away.
Two tracks so far have I heard from you this and vhjump and both are great!!! Real nice Buddy, real nice.
Only thing I'd say is work on the closed hi-hat sound, it sounds super fake. Mix is a bit lower, put a bit of artificial dynamics on it, or try a different hi-hat pack all together. It really kills what's otherwise an amazing cover.
Excellent cover as usual, keep up the awesome work Alex!
I always thought taking back Sunday should cover Sunday Bloody Sunday
He's probably one of my favorite favorite bands of all time when I was a teenager it was it was U2New Found Glory Green Day in Less Than Jake Weird Al and the Goo Goo Dolls
u2 and pop punk are LITERALLY the two things that i love the most, I've literally cried man
Anything the man touches turns to GOLD! Any chance you could resurrect some smashed pumpkins? 😏😏
Alternate video title: if U2's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking for was by the Starting Line
Thank you for using the original C# Major key. I don't know. Other than it's my favorite key, it just suits the song well.
This edges out most pop punk. It's definitely something I'd listen to on a beautiful day in God's country.
I need this on an Album!! @Alex Melton....you should do Bangin on a trash can from the Show Doug!
fun fact I live in Ireland and even tho U2 are most successful rock n roll band not many people actually like or listen to U2 here in IRELAND it's mad
I just found you channel today and have been down the rabbit hole of your songs and covers...... I literally went out to get a Powerball ticket so if i win i could make you rich and famous. You are phenomenal.
I hope Alex finds what he's looking for
It might be a cough drop after this vocal performance
Why did no one ever tell me that The Edge playing pop punk was what was missing in my life?!
U2 should see this! Pretty amazing. You have a lot of talent.
More U2 please 😁
What if I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by the Proclaimers was an Alex Melton cover?
@alexmelton have you thought about a Dido - Thank You pop punk cover? I bet you'd do it up big stronk brover!
Awesome! How about a Chemical (by Post Malone) Blink-182 cover?
Thing is…that’s exactly the kind of band they started when they first got together…the early 80’s version.
Sounds like Angels & Airwaves with different vocals. 🔥
MOST UNDERRATED ARTIST IN HISTORY. (Change my mind)
Ok normally I end up giving it to the original with these covers but man this one for me was better than the original! Bravo good sir!
