TO ANSWER ANY GEAR QUESTIONS (ESPECIALLY DRUMS)
I'm using a Roland kit imp.i114863.net/jWDXLv as a midi controller,
to control this virtual instrument: imp.i114863.net/zaXgq7
My Vocal Mic: imp.i114863.net/qnkDBO
My Bass: imp.i114863.net/5bz36o

Great video + concept. Spot on, especially that Flea-esque fill. What's the benefit of the V-Drums acoustic series? Is it just to get the form factor of an acoustic kit, or is there any technical benefit to it?
Great video! One question, what's your take on GetGood Drums vs EZDrummer?
I think Alex carried the band in this scenario.
Alex was phoning it in the whole time. This vid would have been nothing without Alex.
alex alexed the band.
Bahahahaha
Are you mad? Alex was nothing compared to Alex
No way, Alex was way more into it.
Well now I want full versions of Every Breath You Take in each of these styles.
Just a full record of the various cover styles.
literally please
Minus Coldplay and Bruno Mars. They suck. But Alex's versions of them are accurate.
Great idea
The police version sounds similar to the original
Every vid you make,
Every poll you take,
I be watching you
Every play you make
Every cover you make
Every riff you play
Every stick you break
I'll will watching you
I need a full take of The 1975 version. It was so good.
I wasn’t expecting a The 1975 version on this, but he came out swinging with that banger.
Legit thinking the same thing. Love his style of playing. Fun to watch and really feels good too
Yaps feels so good to listen to it
the george's drum fill says it all
Thought the same thing.
That Foo Fighters section as fire. RIP Taylor. Also, your Grohl impression is SO good!
Yeah he hit that raspy yell perfect 👌🏻
It was so sick!👌🏼👌🏼
yeah the Foo Fighters section made me sad
his smile even reminded me of Taylor's.
I came hear to say the same thing, so Grohlish it hurts!
Bro how do you keep hitting these concepts out of the park. This is so freaking good
everyone has a superpower.
@@bringit261 is mine being a problem to my parent cus I don't remember me being so 'super' at something other than that
@@bringit261 nah, it's not a superpower. Alex just put a lot of time into it. He knows the artists and their different styles, he knows his instruments, and he practiced a lot. No matter how talented you are, you don't get there without putting in the time. Honestly, I don't think talent is even a thing, it's all about how much motivation you have to get good at something and how early in life you start on it.
The Taylor Hawkins finale hit me in the feels, dude. You even have the same joyous expression Taylor had when he played, like you were connected with every beat. Well done, Alex.
I love how not only are you playing in all of their styles, but you also mimic their mannerisms when they all perform, it’s like you genuinely channel each member of each band’s energy, genuine talent over here brother
The Alex Melton cinematic universe's lore expands with this conversation. How do the drummer and the bassist really feel about each other? Will we ever see a second guitarist move to take the frontman / singer role? Which Alex is arranging all of these covers but maybe doesn't get enough credit? We'll have to stay tuned to find out.
this is so good XD
Yo the Dave grohl vocal impression was low key pretty spot on
As a die hard Foo Fighters fan, your interpretation of Taylor and Nate was spot on. Got me in the feels and made me miss Taylor that much more. Well done sir, keep up the great work.
The groove at 0:49 is so clean. As a drummer and a semi-bassist, this is a cool video concept and I would not mind seeing more like it.
As a bass player I wilfully accept this validation of my place in the band.
Same
Same
Same. Didn't know people notice us.
Same
GET BACK IN YOUR HOLE BASSEY BOY
Cuz I miss you down here
Loved the Foo Fighters part...RIP Taylor
The Green Day version was insanely good! It had me laughing out loud when it started it was so good!
Drums and bass are killing, but can we talk about those amazing vocals as well ?
💯
Top tier attention to detail with the switch to traditional grip for Stewart Copeland!
This guy deserve a full contract... With some big records out there
I prefer this. He can do his own thing without anyone trying to control him.
He’s now signed to Pure Noise Records!
@@Alveyjr21 Yeah... I know... But financial wise??? You can't really walk alone on creative industry like this.
Producing music is not easy, to say the least. And not cheap either. Especially on marketing thingy :')
Yet, he could discuss the term and condition with the records where he could produce his music with freedom.
Which guy? The drummer or the bassist?
@@Alveyjr21 Hoping someone would say that...... I
This was excellent! Also, as a drummer, I appreciated you switching to traditional grip when doing Stewart Copeland.. Nice touch man 🔥
The way you made all the versions genuinly sound like the band you're trying to act as
Just like "I Think I'm OKAY" and "Fireflies", I NEED MORE OF THESE
I would love to see you do more the 1975 related content

The Taylor section at the end was just amazing. Got chills from that. One I would've loved to hear is Taking Back Sunday (Mark O'Connell and Shaun Cooper).
TBS covered Message in a Bottle.
I would love covers in the style of The 1975. My favourite cover on this one.
Love the work Alex!!
This is actually better than I thought it would be. Including the names was a nice touch
The angles and airwave part, omg love. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
The Foo Fighters section was PERFECTION. Nice job brother. 🤙
You know Alex, you're actually a pretty great rhythm section.
Impressive! Alex and The Meltons have been together for so long that they're all arguing and throwing each other with drumsticks.. like brothers. Yes, that must be it.
This is amazing, however, in order to decide who is better (drums or bass) I think I am going to need to see a round two! Might I suggest... "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac... or maybe "separate ways" by Journey... just a thought =)
oh yes we need a fleetwood mac!!!
"Dreams" would be so good!
Dreams sounds good, but Journey man, that's some good stuff right there!
rhiannon by fleetwood mac would be dope!
That Foo Fighters version sounded amazing!
The Foo Fighters segment is so friggin' spot on, it made me happy and sad and euphoric. Thanks for that! ❤🤘🏽
For the love of god please make a full cover of this song in the style of Angels and Airwaves. That section of the video was the highlight of my day 🤯🤯
Not only was this a clever idea, incredibly well executed, but I found the ending to be surprisingly moving. Thank you for creating something so fun and beautiful.
Now I am dying for a full cover in the style of 1975, that was a BOP!!! 🙏🧡
After going through all the versions, I decided The 1975 one was my favorite. Then I went and replayed it to make sure, and realized that was almost entirely because of the groovy ass guitar. I think I failed this exercise. I am definitely aware of how impactful a top-notch rhythm section is though. The bass is frequently under-utilized in most music.
The 1975 really does having some grooves guitar. My favorite guitar driven tracks of theirs are Pressure and She’s American.
The groovy guitar is a compliment to how strong that offbeat/ accent rhythm feels that George is so famous for. With a straight forward composition it would feel quite bland I think even though it’s a funky little guitar part .
I kinda want a whole 1975 version of this song.
I think its great though that youre able to break down what makes a band's sound specific to them. Little nuances you dont really pick up on generally, at least passively listening to. The sound is critical with all members of the band coming together.
I disagree. That would be cool but he’s most often just taking the drum and bass part directly from one of those other bands’ songs and slapping them into the track without changes. That’s why they sound like the band. It’s not “in the style of” it’s just literally what they’ve played before
Digging the creative ways this guy plugs his content at the end of each video. We have to stand out as musicians. You sir, are doing an excellent job!
The bass on 1975 one is just chefs kiss
Actually your finest work yet.
Let’s be honest, the triangle has the most important role. It provides rhythm, harmonics, accents and so much more.
And it's the strongest shape.
Nope. Cowbell.
When Alex hits Blink 182 it is undeniable that it goes deep to the bones
As the newer drummer in a band, I once learned so much by following an amazing experienced bass player. He really led me down the path to where years later I now have confidence to lead the band. I never really paid attention to bass before then and now it's one of my favorite parts to listen to in music.
As a drummer-just wow to both!
We definitely need round 2, maybe even best out of 7. Another great video that's been added to my playlist of songs I listen to while working on my book. Thanks for all the great music. (I think the drummer took round 1 😆)
Actually, Alex Melton is definetly the most important instrument
What do you mean, "actually"?
What do you mean, "actually"?
The subtle physical adjustments like Flea’s low-slung base and Copeland’s trad lefthand grip are chef’s kiss. Not sure if that’s for visual aesthetic or to achieve accurate feel or both - but remarkable.
It’s obvious that Alex is making all the important musical decisions as they pertain to the song, and Alex is just kinda going with it. I mean it’s your classic dynamic of a creative duo.
Great, great stuff. As an old guy, some of the bands I never heard of sounded a lot like bands I have heard of but are from a generation before. You get better and better at this, man. Keep going.
During paramore your vocals sounded like Bert from the Used. Awesome! You should definitely do some of their songs or a song in the style of the Used.
Alex's talent + The Used, that would be pretty entertaining to watch indeed.
10 different styles of The Taste of Ink
@@benjaminjohnson1755 We need this.
Totally. Uncanny
Thought so too
“I’ll be watching you” me to Alex’s RUclips channel continue to explode. Love this!
was not ready for how Spot On the george daniels was
Yay you switched to a pick for the Nate Mendel part! Gotta love the attention to detail! Taylor and Dave get a ton of credit (and rightly so) but I think Nate and Chris are so key to the sound as well.
Finally The 1975 gets some love! Would be awesome to see more covers in their style
I’m feeling something in my heart already 1:23
I really wish this was on Spotify, I listen to it at least once a day.
This is my favorite video of yours yet. I'm sure people have praised your concepts and your arrangements and your understanding of genres. But I bet you don't get enough praise for your production skills. Your songs sound amazing. I can only imagine how long it takes you to put one of these videos together,.
I know it’s no necessarily the point of the video, but what a great tribute to Taylor Hawkins. The joy on your face during the Foo Fighters piece is palpable, and damn it’s tough not to get emotional. Thank you for this, man
As a bassist this makes me very, very happy! Please do one more!!
This version should be available for purchase…phenomenal
Absolutely incredible, we need more of these
The work this man puts in! Whatva great concept.
Smashes it out of the park everytime.
for real he is doing so much. then I am sure he is doing all the editing and stuff too. very talented
0:48 Got me grooving right off the Bat! 😎👉🏼
Love how Alex and Alex argue like they've been together for 32 years
Can't not comment (and leave a like) on this one. This was just too good. Even got kinda emotional when you you threw in Foo (RIP Taylor Hawkins). From the song choice to the performance, everything was just spot on. More power to you, sir! ...and more content like this one, please!
oh and sorry bassist Alex, but drummer Alex wins this one.
I’d honestly be more star struck to see Alex Melton in person than 99% of mainstream musicians
The one wearing the hat killed it.
Every young musician should see this video. Good rythm section = Good band.... All I have to say.
Inconclusive. Need more data. Another video please!
Definitely need another! Also how about “adding The Edge riffs to 10 different genres/songs”?!
This just happens to have been the # 1 song this week 39 years ago, back in 1983
holy shit the 1975 section was so groovy. totally something the band themselves would have orchestrated
You should do another one, like maybe a Switchfoot song, because Jon Foreman slaps!
Alex's acting skills are coming along nicely 🥰 I'm hoping for full on comic skits around pop punk in the future
Alex Melton is the spirit animal of every kid born in the 1990's. I love his content so much.
Drums are the bricks, and Bass is the mortar. Can't have one without the other to build something awesome
You've got such sweet sounds on your Roland VAD-706, is it VST samples or are you using module sounds ?
Very nice cover as always, loved 1975 & Foo Fighters versions !
Cheers
It’s a GetGood Drums VST, link should be in the pinned comment at the top!
@@AlexMelton Oooh those are very nice vst! Thank you for the info, imma buy it too for sure. Cant wait to see your next cover!
Every one of your videos blows me away. You are such a gifted musician and arranger.
I love the way you challenge yourself. No way a video like this is easy to make.
Do another..but switch spots.
That Dave Grohl vocal tho 😍
Every single one of the Alex’s has more talent in a single strand of hair than any of us have in our lifetime. To think to even come up with this idea and then execute it to the sheer perfection of each piece is incredible. Also love how you sang in the style of each band/artist even if they weren’t the drummer or bassist. You’re the ideal musician. Never stop you’re blessed with superior skill.
The transition was so smooth oof
When you did the Foo Fighters version, It felt like the ghost of Taylor Hawkins took over your body for a good minute!! It brought me happy and sad at the same time!! Rock on Alex 🤘🏼🔥🔥
Need more of this please
2:43 This reminds me of The Longshot Devil's Kind
Full circle relatability happened. Your worship band videos… this was a warm up song for the worship band i was in a for a short period 20ish years ago. 😂
One of your absolute best! Every hair stood up on my arms when you gave a tasteful ode to the OGs of the song with “The Police”. But tears 100% started to happen when I saw Taylor Hawkins on the screen. One of my favorite songs ever. And you paid homage in such a wonderful way to the driving duo behind every great band.
Alex is the glue that holds the band together.
That transition into GREENDAY!!! FIRREEEE!!!!! Drums has my vote!
Alex is so talented, not only as a musician, but he is a true musical impressionist. I love them so much.
I’ve been following your content for years and this is my favorite thing you’ve created. Awesome video Alex
Your talent for this stuff is unbelievable my dude. Each part is so distinct but flows so perfectly into the next, while being so recognisable as to who is the influence. And while every part is amazing, the sum of all the parts is exponentially better when heard all together 🥲beautiful stuff
I love the attention to detail! Even made sure Copeland was using traditional grip!
Even without the band names this totally works as just a creative remix.
This is fantastic. Do another!
This is so epic! I can see you put in a lot on your videos lately. You're amazing, Alex. Keep doing what you're doing!
As a bass player, I think this might be my favorite video of yours. No particular reason.
I love how Mike Dirnt named himself after the sound a bass makes
The 1975 was my favorite. It really grooved!! The Flea bass part was sick!!
