The fact that Travis got 2/8 slots is an accurate representation of how influential he has been/is as a drummer.
📠
I'm probably just reading too much into it, but I feel like Alex can't contain his smiles as much when he's playing like Travis.
Yeah, I think Alex might just be a big fan. Considering the amount of "Blink 182 versions" of songs and stuff
FACTS!!!
Was happy to see Relient K represented and it’s especially fitting as Matt Thiessen provided backing vocals on Fireflies
😯 I never knew that! Thanks
Dang that’s cool didn’t know that.
whattt? I didn't know that!
Matt co-wrote is as well!
He provided vocals, co-wrote it, and co-produced it! I think he produced the whole album.
You should absolutely keep Relient K in your repertoire. I went back and listened to that portion 5 or 6 times before finishing the rest of the song. So accurate, yet subtle enough that it wasn't over-the-top. Well done.
S tier pop punk band.
Gahhh I miss relient k! I was doing a bunch of their covers when the pandemic first hit just never dropped them along with everything else I covered haha 🤷🏽
I also agree! Dave Douglas is a highly underrated drummer. Relient k covers would be great!
Would love to see some relient k covers! Definitely one of my favorites. Dunno why but I thought "country cover" and my first thought was the song "Therapy" from Forget And Not Slow Down.
RK was also my favorite section. Countrifying one of their songs seems so fitting to me, since they have some stuff that leans alt-country!
Can we just appreciate the fact that the entire instrumental writing, production, mixing, and vocal performance changed with each band change???? Mate there’s so much background work that’s clearly gone into this beyond the drumming in the foreground - this is incredible!
100%
We need a Relient K cover! Loved the piano, drums and guitar parts for Dave Douglas. Totally wasn’t expecting that
Alex, hear the guys. We would love that.
Am I the only one who thinks yellow card might have one of the most underrated drummers? That dude was always going hard and really gave them extra staying power
YC got dramatically worse without him in the band. He’s absolutely intrinsic to their classic sound
Lp3 is an amazing dude. When he dropped off, Yellowcard went to absolute hell.
Yeah that guy was insane. They had cool guitars and stuff but to me the heart of yellowcard was the voice, violin and drums
LP3 was insane! Totally agree that the band lost some quality when he left
Yeah he was pretty important to the band and their vibe. They fell off big time when he moved on.
The palm-mutes on the guitar gave Yellowcard away, sounded just like OceanAve.
it really does sound exactly like that
The arrangements/vocals all give them away. Intro fill for Fall Out Boy, palm muted rhythm for Yellowcard, synth and bass for The Killers, breakdown for underoath… only one where I think I could have genuinely ID’d the drummer’s style without the references was Travis
dude that yellowcard drumming was spot on if so many of us knew it instantly, that was so great
Same with deep throating the mic gave away Aaron Gillespie. 😂
@@samig9032 also him singing as the drummer gave away underoath
Reliant K. By far. I’ve listened to them since grade school, and hearing that little section lit me up like a candle. Couldn’t have wiped the smile off my face, even if I tried (or wanted) to. One of my favorite songs with paired with many of my favorite bands would’ve been a banger no matter what, but that little tidbit made it for me. Like so many people are saying, please PLEASE do some covers in their style. Would make my day (not that your videos don’t already lol)
It works so well because Matt Thiessen was a coproducer on ocean eyes.
holy eff dude, that was a trip down memory lane
1. You’re an incredible drummer
2. I can’t believe how good those electric drums sound!
I didn't know you were a Relient K fan! I'd love to see some covers of their songs from you!
Also, love the Owl City cover. He's among my favorite artists.
Fun fact, Matt Thiessen produced the original Fireflies song with Owl City, and wrote on a bunch of his early stuff :D
And yes, pleeeeeeeease drop some "If Relient K covered..." Or do some other arrangements of Relient K songs! (If Blink-182 covered Pressing On?)
He strikes me as someone who listens to a lot of different genres, not necessarily the ones he plays.
I agree with this
Iirc in one of his past videos he was wearing a Relient K tee
I agree with everyone else: MORE RELIENT K! But the Aaron Gillespie part was my favorite. Super cool!
It always makes me so happy when people know who Relient K is.
Immediately recognized and loved the Aaron Gillespie and Dave Douglas sections. I'd love to see some Underoath and Relient K style covers!
Youth kid catnip. Can't get enough
Old school UO for sure!
A rk reference!!! Favorite band of all time, is the band that got me started on guitar. Just saw them on their un yeah tour. So glad to see it when they get recognition.
Owl City, Underoath, & Relient K! Your Christian library is well above the RUclips standard of 90s/2000s shout outs!
I think my favorite part about this one was realizing just how much more I notice drums in songs by some of my favorite bands then I realized. Being able to recognize the Relient K, Underoath, and Josh Dun arrangements was pretty cool.
The Yellowcard and Relient K sections had me grinning ear to ear -- absolutely nailed it. The others were amazing, too, but I'm more familiar with those two bands and caught on right away. Love your videos! Keep it up!
Fantastic job! I love that you included Dave Douglas from Relient K. One of the more underrated drummers of our youth. I also loved how you mimicked his performance in “I So Hate Consequences.” Also great band choice given Matt Thiessen’s role in creating the original “Fireflies” by Owl City.
The Relient K one was awesome and you nailed their sound. Please do more in their style!
Really dig the Yellowcard version! You're the man.
Every comment is about Reliant K, but like, Yellow card, guys. Yellowcard. ♥️
I’d say the killers was spot on. Wasn’t too sure about the others. I love how your guitar and everything matched the band too.
Name that drummer would an amazing series
Another absolute banger. Definitely really enjoyed the Aaron Gillespie portion. As I saw the mic, I figured it was him. Thanks for the stellar content!
came to say this. The Aaron Gillespie part was my favorite. I immediately started banging my head to that. I loved that groove!
The synth at 2:08 - 2:29 was absolutely DIVINE
Very Killers
Dave Douglas. Met this guy when RK played in Jacksonville, FL years ago. I'm also a drummer and he was so nice when I asked him 20 questions about his kit.
Great video man!
At first I was impressed that I was able to guess most of these, but then realized I was only able to do so because of how brilliant of a songwriter and musician you are. This was a fun one!
Love it! Relient K was sooo good. Would like to see more in the style of them and more of that ccm mix up. It could use the shake up! Keep up the good work buddy.
Immediately recognized quite a few, but *especially* Aaron, and Dave! Aaron was sooo spot on, and I was so pleasantly surprised to see Relient K included!! 🖤
All I could think was "That sounds like a Matt Thiessen arrangement" and then when you dropped Dave Douglas my jaw dropped and stayed there for the rest of the video.
I love all of your stuff man, but this hit me in a really special nostalgic way. I saw Relient K play at Darian Lake in 2002 and my dad whipped out his binoculars so I could watch Dave on the drums...that cemented me as pop punk kid for life.
Again, absolutely obsessed with this one Alex!!
The actual song was co-written and co-produced by Matthew Thiessen, so a pop punk version will probably always sound reminiscent off Relient K
@@Yorie1234 Correct!! But when the RK arrangement came up, it was clear to me haha.
I haven't thought about Relient K in at least a decade, going through the hits again. That arrangement felt so familiar but I never would've guessed RK given a thousand options.
Relient K has one of the most memorable concerts! They have a lot of fun. I can still vividly picture Matt walking out on stage with a toy Keytar to open with "In Love with the 80s"
@@klenk1am I had the pleasure of seeing them on tour with Switchfoot about 5 years ago and it was absolutely incredible!
As someone who grew up listening to all these bands, I think you've really managed to capture the essence of each one's style! It was so immediately recognizable!!! RelientK and Yellowcard were definitely my favourites! Love to see more of this stuff from you!
the first blink182 version needs to become a full song!!
Also the Yellowcard one!! 🤘🏼
It is. It’s called Feeling This.
agreed! I suggested this a few videos ago and am still hoping it happens
The Relient K version was BRILLIIANT! Would love to hear some more in their style. Highly underrated band.
These covers rip dude. And it's funny how recognizable Aaron is. Immediately you know.
We need full versions of each! The Ocean Avenue one was probably my favourite if I had to pick, but they’re honestly all killer!🤘
Dude!! That was awesome!! I didn’t expect Reliant K or TØP!! Keep it up! Also you nailed the vocals. And guitar especially with Yellowcard. I knew who it was immediately.
Loved all these drum covers, but you absolutely cracked me up with your MGK impression at the end! Completely dead on.
That was great! Longineu Parsons III is easily my favorite drummer of all time! Biggest influence on my own drumming next to Travis and Aaron.
More Relient K and Owl City covers, plz!! Great work! Really impressive!
Really want an actual Angels and Airwaves cover of this now
I'll second this one -- great idea
Dude. Yes.
@Andrew Emmons He did an AVA -inspired cover of "Ocean Avenue" a while back and it would be incredible to see "Fireflies" get a similar treatment.
I couldn't stop laughing and smiling this whole time. Not only could I guess most of the bands but I knew the exact track that you pulled a majority of the sound from (Yellowcard especially).
LOVE that you included Relient K too, that's my most listened band my whole life by a wide margin.
You definitely deserve more subs man. I really enjoy your renditions. All the best ❤️
This is almost just a video of you playing as all my Favorite Drummers! So happy to see Dave Douglas in there 🔥

I love how you didn't just change the drum styles but also added some band-specific arrangements and adjusted your vocals. You're an incredible talent, never stop doing what you do!!!!!
this video make me sure that you are really a drummer LOL
Alex, what kind of electronic drum kit are you playing on here? It sounds amazing! You’re one talented guy. God bless you
I love how for yellowcard you just changed the song to ocean avenue XD Love ya bro, seriously a like on this comment would make my homies so jealous XD
Hey Alex, totally unrelated, but i got a reply to my earlier comment saying I was selected for a giveaway, is that a scam, or was that legit?
I loved this!!
1. Iconic song that I loved when I was younger and haven’t heard for ages. Yum!
2. Loved the format/concept of this video-it was fun to see you play different flavors/personalities
3. The design element of this video really shone through for me-the font/band logo combo was great plus the transitions between sections was cool. What a level up! So awesome!
This was amazing. My favorite drum part was Ronnie Vannucci's. God, I love his drumming. So simple and so powerful!
I love that you not only got the sound and style of the drummers, but also their mannerisms. The way you played the Josh Dun section was so physically distinctive that I could have recognized it without even hearing it. He has a very particular set of mannerisms when he's playing and it stood out right away
Perfect Relient K arrangement with all those syncopated beats....and UnderOath just hit the spot! Thanks for bringing my back to the early 2000s. What a time.
Relient K!!!!!!!!! Man, they’ve been my favorite band for like 20 years now. We just saw them in Chicago. SUCH AN ENERGETIC SHOW.
I suggest a cover of “More Than Useless” from their mmhmm album, I could see you KILLING that song.
That MGK impression was solid
You even got the posture down for the different drummers. Attention to detail is a big part of going from good to great. Travis' left, right, left on the symbols... chefs kiss!
It’s unfair that he’s insanely talented at every instrument and can sing. What a legend
Great concept and fantastic execution! I love that you included Relient K!
The Aaron Gillespie and Relient K bits were so perfect. Recognized them both right away.
Highly appreciate the vocals and instrumentation changing with each drummer as well.
Loved seeing Relient K in one of your videos! Would love to see you cover one of their songs!
Shout out to House of Heroes, the band Josh Dun was in before Twenty One Pilots. They put out a ton of good music back in the day!
Wait, what??? Josh was in House of Heroes?? How did I not know this
So happy you did Dave and Aaron. Wonderful execution's of those guys too. Would love to see some Relient K and Underoath content.
Got Travis down man. Your a great artist
The first Barker one sounded like Feeling This.
That was so enjoyable!! And I loved the Ronny Vanucci section!!
How long do you have to listen to a drummer to prep for something like this or does it come pretty quickly from knowing the bands and being a drummer?
I think I had touchstone techniques in mind for about half of them going in, and the other half is basically ripping off drum parts from specific songs of the bands they are in while accommodating for the new song structure on top of it. A healthy mix of general style observations vs specific transposed grooves, basically. Great question!
I watch a lot of your videos when I have to drive through the night. Nostalgic sounds remixing lots of things I love. Always impresses me.
The only one I didn’t guess correctly was Twenty One Pilots. You’re amazing at everything you do so it’s hard to pick a favorite. They were all perfect but Relient K just hit a little more for me, it was so beautiful.
for some reason idk why i guessed panic at the disco for that one myself! XD
@@kingpin08918 I can kinda hear that lol.
wow what a great selection of bands to represent and also great execution! Relient K, Yelllowcard and oldschool Fallout Boy would be awesome to see more often appearences in the channel!
This song slaps! I hope you end up releasing it on streaming platforms, I'm definitely going to be listening to it on repeat for the next week!
Really enjoyed yellow card, Travis modern, and underoath! But I can hear each one of the bands and what you were doing and that's so neat! Reliant K and Killers were good additions!
I wanted to be impressed with myself for how many I actually guessed correctly but then I realized it’s a credit to you and the Artist you mimicked
Incredible just incredible. The audio quality is so frigging amazing.
I love how you tease the style before flashing the artist name. It made it fun to guess. The Underoath one had me like "yesss, this is what I love".
Really solid job here…and I’ll add to the numerous comments here asking for some Relient K covers. That would be pretty sweet!
I can't believe it took me this long to find this one in your bag of trucks! LOVE the owl city cover in all its forms.
I loved the Underoath segment. Cutting away just as you went into the Writing On The Walls part makes me want to go listen to all of Define the Great Line. I'm craving more.
Hands down you of the best videos you came up with. Aaron’s part was so good.
This is so fucking awesome. You nailed every single style! It was fun trying to guess who it was before it came up on screen. So here for this content. Well, all of your content really. Keep up the killer work dude 👌🏻👌🏻
i enjoy the fact that the Relient K section was at the part of the song that Matthew Thiessen had vocals in. :)
alex...you fucking rock dude. it is inspiring to watch you videos over the years! keep it up dude!
Amazingly great work. Love the phaser sounds on the hi hat for the blink Travis Barker sound. Not sure exactly what effect it was. I loved all of the different drummers. So good.
Bro. the Dave Douglas RK was glorious. Subtle, simple, with some backing vocals. Brought me right back. I recognized it immediately. DO MORE RELIENT K!
That was dope! I'd love to hear it with either Jordan Hastings or Jesse Ingelevics from Alexisonfire
You’re just incredible man, one of my favorite musicians on RUclips.
Never new that drummer imitations were a thing until now, spot on, congrats !!
Bro you’re sic. So good. Inspired me to buy an electric set for the first time ever.
Love this!! But only guessed towards the end should leave the reveal until the end of each bit! So fucking good though I love everything you do!
i went into this thinking "god i hope he does aaron, his drumming is so iconic!" and then you did! plus relient k?? holy eff. all the nostalgia. love all your videos, would love to see more like this, incorporation of RK, underoath, maybe some beartooth! keep it up man
This is incredible 💕 every one of your videos are amazing and always makes me smile because of the nostalgia. You're so creative and it's greatly appreciated.
Saw you working on these on IG and was wondering what it was for. Worth the wait!
Dude. This was the most entertaining and interactive drum video I’ve watched. I was literally sitting on my couch getting excited trying to figure out the drummers before the names popped up. Amazing job man!
1:28 holy fuck that halftime on top of the classic pop-punk dissonance from the guitar was EVERYTHING. i literally have goosebumps, it really was THAT FUCKING GOOD 😩💜
You missed the “modern” travis’ double crash with both sticks on the same cymbal haha
good stuff! Always amazed at your ability to play a variety of instruments so WELL! Kudos 👍🏻
this is genuinely very good please do this style of thing with more songs
Haha, spot on man! You really can pick out the Travis drum parts immediately, can't you!
Well done!
That was awesome! I loved all the different styles, and you nailed the fills throughout the song.
You fucking killed the LPIII section! So dope to hear a homage to my favourite drummer
Knew right from the get-go what you were going for when you started playing the Josh Dun style beat! What a fun video!
Gosh the Dave Douglas Relient K sound brings me back! Absolutely nailed! Would love more songs in that format.
The modern Travis Barker with the MGMK sing was fcuking funny. Amazing work as always ❤️
Well done! Super fun and I could pick out a number of those before you ever put the names up. Aaron Gillespie especially! So great. Nice work.
I keep coming back to this video. So awesome man!
It’s amazing how fucking amazingly you nailed the feel of all of these different groups/drummers
love this. idea: do 8 different drum tracks but based off of different specific albums since drummers can really change their style over the years and bands can change drummers :)
that Aaron impression was perfect. These are my favorite style of videos--they are so fun to guess and always spot on. Excellent job, Alex.
Relient K?! Those dudes were local to me growing up, so naturally I was obsessed with them. So cool to see them thrown in on this one.
The way you perfectly captured, not only the drummers, but the bands was incredible! so freaking good
