I have 500 miles on my 2019 z900, and I absolutely love it. I was torn between these two as well and the factors that went into my decision: I’m on the shorter side 5’7” and I could easily flat foot the z, not the mt. The mt “felt” a lot heavier when maneuvering. The mt felt like I was riding a big fast dirt bike (totally subjective of course, just my impression). The z is so smooth that it didn’t feel like I was riding anything - it felt like I just suddenly could run 160 mph lol. Like it just melds with you and does exactly what you want before you ask it to. The ergonomics: like I said I felt very Supermoto-y on the mt, which just hasn’t ever been my thing. The z (esp after putting clip ons on) feels like what a sportbike feels like with nostalgia goggles. The same aggressive, “one with the bike” feel, but without feeling like you are doing a yoga routine. I’m not explaining it well, imagine a super sport but comfy-fied. The relative popularity (and the mt line is wildly successful for a reason, amazing bike) if the mt means in my little rural Kansas town, I see three or four for mt’s buzzing around town. I haven’t seen anyone on a z900, and while “just to be different” is a bad reason to do anything, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t factor in. Looks: again very subjective, but the mt looks just don’t do it for me. In pics the z doesn’t really communicate it’s presence, but in person comparing the two, the mt looks utilitarian, while the z900 looks muscular and catlike and aggressive. Price: a big factor. These just haven’t sold as well, so leftover 2019s are super cheap: I got mine with abs for 6599 usd sticker price, after tax under 7400. This was a couple thousand less than the otd price of an mt09. Overall you can’t go wrong either way. Particularly the second gen mt line has fixed the one real downside, the super choppy fueling.
How is the ticking from the engine if there is any? im going the buy the 2020 z900. i have a kawasaki vulcan s now and the high ticking from the engine is so annoying.
From Wikipedia concerning the MT-09: The MT-09's product manager, Shun Miyazawa, said Yamaha had considered in-line twins, triples and fours, and V-twins; but that the in-line triple gave the "best solution" of power, torque and low weight. Comparing the MT-09 to the Triumph Street Triple, he said the Triumph was a streetfighter, but the Yamaha was a "roadster motard". Having already owned and traded the Z900, also having ridden a piped MT-09 at a demo, I would say if the inline-4 experience is what you crave, throw down a couple grand more and spring for the excellent GSX-S1000. If you're splitting hairs on these two featured models, go for the triple engine. It's going to hold your interest a lot longer.
Man you should start your own video, you got alot of information you should be sharing. Another question is mt 09 has 3 cylinders a bigger bore, z900 has cylinders a smaller bore, I know 4 cylinder is better but for this case which is better?
I'm no weekend warrior, I ride my bike to work every day. So IMHO the Z900's proper 17 liter tank alone destroys the MT-09 with its ridiculously puny 14 liter jobbie.
Talk to me people. I rode a 2016 fz09 at a demo day. I liked it. But I want to keep options open. I've never ridden a z900. The z1000 is to expensive so I've made these my options. I don't need top end. I currently ride a zx9 and I like the torque. I'm not going to beat on my bike but I do like to have a little fun. Just looking for a more comfortable bike. This will be a city bike.
i shopped 2 years but also on the new generation. im a huge Kawasaki fan but also owned Yamaha. both dealers great ppl, but im soooo glad i got the 2020 Z900. ive almost broke it in for first service! Torque is nuts!!!! Green frame gets the comments 4 sure!
After deciding I wanted one or the other, after a couple test rides i really wanted to like the fz09 but I decided on the z900 i think it will be better bike to live with. I'd buy both if money was no object . the fz09 did really feel like dirt bike or supermoto
I was looking a the fz09 past couple years. But was hesitant to pull trigger as even my Friend who has one said the suspension was too soft and would need upgrading. Well there goes the cheap price. Plus other comments of the throttle by wire a bit to on/off switch like feel. Well in late June saw reviews on the Z900. did not even know they existed until then lol. Well in July found one and sat on it. felt right at home. I am tall too at 6'1" and 187lbs with no gear on. Well bought it and on way home about 60 miles from dealership it felt like I was at home with it. I used to have a 77 kz650 back in the early 80s. I had not had a motorcycle since like 92? Throttle by cable OLD SCHOOL> just how I like. if you know how to ride you dont need the rider modes plus the kawai motor is smooth you dont need it. it does not surprise you ( well over 6 grand and twist hard you better have it pointed the right direction! ) Plus the handling was spot on for me also. very confidence inspiring in the corners! Really cant go wrong with the Z900!
Mark Porter that and no dealing with that schizo throttle. And it goes where its pointed without trying to kill you. And it rides better. Yeah i just bought one new on run out lol...
I have a 2016 FZ09 AND...its the shit !!! Funniest bike ever. I ride hard..i scrape my knees and pegs on alot of turns/curves/ twistes. @180 pounds i find the suspension to be decent...however on turns that test ur suspension the fz does struggle which puts the handling on the rider...overall its thr funniest bike u xam own. If u hit insane turns u may wanna upgrade ur suspension or adjust. But yeahhh i smoked a z900 through the hawks nest multiple times
FZ09 has the motor and not much more and the Kawasaki has the overall package and looks. The FZ/MT09 is like a hybrid between a supermotard and a naked and not so much a bike for Active/fast road driving.
You can (and should) adjust the suspension on the fz09 so is not weird to ride, I felt the suspension on both the fz09 and fz10 to be too stiff, but coming from a cruiser that was to be expected. Now I am used to both and while I agree that the z900 looks more aggressive, the FZ is still my top, pick. Maybe I'll get the z900 as my third bike.....
The Z900 is more “sophisticated” and the MT-09 has more soul and is more raw. I personally prefer the MT 09 because the cp3 engine is absolutely amazing. The Z900 might be more stable when absolutely pushing the bike to its limits, but for daily driving and hooning around the MT 09 is the better option imo
I've ridden the z900 at aimexpo last year and again a month ago on a demo ride. I am amazed how smooth It is and the seat height. I can easily flatfoot this bike over even my cute ninja 300. Ready to see the 2020 model as I expect a nice major update even up to a new TFT Dash.
I didn't like the way the FZ09 slid me into the tank. The bars were too high for the peg position. The fuel injection STILL was not right even after being "fixed". The GSXS1000 was more comfy and I liked that beast of a motor. The FZ was ok. The Z900 I have not ridden but I like the styling of it and I like linear motors and bikes with that bar position for the highway.
I saw the z900 today at the dealer and i have to admit it look better in person and yes this is going to hurt me but it look like is build better than the fz 09 😔
if the price is simillar maybe i'll consider the mt09, but here in Indonesia the z900 cost about $16.7k brand new and the mt09 is $19.9k and it's the old model, not even the new '17 model.. easy choice :D
Rode both, z900 is a typical inline 4, powerful, smooth, but nowhere near as exciting/crazy as the FZ 09...that thing is just insane....( 17' FZ also has more tech in it, for the same price) Edit: the Kawi is also much heavier than the FZ(something you forgot to mention) Power to weight I think the yamaha comes out on top
Supernova12034 you are absolutely completely wrong. Z900 has way more top end. Especially with exhaust. Fz would take off in first and second but once the z is in 3rd at 6k rpms that thing shoots off like a rocket boy. Smooth shifter makes it easier to control take off while executing them.
The Z900 is the faster more powerful bike AND handles better. It makes 10 more horses than the Yam and has a much nicer smoother throttle response. Fit and finish is also superior on the Kawa. Mcn and Mottorad tested them against each other and guess what? The Z900 came out on top. The extra weight of the Kawa is no problem whatsoever.
Supernova12034 ....WRONG WRONG MT09 ....HP 113.4 AT 10.000 RPM...TORQUE 87.5 NM AT 8.500 RPM. Z900...HP 125 AT 9.500 RPM....TORQUE 98.6 NM AT7.700 RPM. THE Z KILLS THE MT09 ....THE REST IS BULLSHIT.
there is an extremely small difference in their power to weight... the z900 has infinitesimally better torque to weight, and the fz09 gets infinitesimally better hp to weight ratio... but they're nearly identical. which is weird because all the comparisons say the fz is the go-to if you want plenty of torque for flicking through traffic. i guess it's an illusion brought on by the significant weight difference (nearly fifty pounds). if it feels easier to maneuver, maybe it makes it feel more torquey. i think the weight difference and the traction and power modes will cause more people to buy the fz09, but i think i'm going to go with the z900 for its increased range, lower ride height, and smoother handling. i just wish the headlights were anywhere near as awesome as the fz. i found this article very helpful: ultimatemotorcycling.com/2017/06/21/kawasaki-z900-vs-yamaha-fz-09-comparison-test/ also, the hp and torque curves on the dyno were noticeably more linear on the kawa: ridermagazine.com/2017/06/12/2017-kawasaki-z900-vs-2017-yamaha-fz-09-comparison-review/
Also the fit and finish on the Z900 is much nicer. That weight difference is very questionable. In reality it's closer to 40 pounds but you must take into consideration that the Z900 holds more fuel which of course weigh's more. The extra weight really is not a problem atall. In fact it helps the Kawa making it more stable and sure footed in the handling department. The Z900 is not heavy bike by any means. In fact for a near 1000cc 4 cylinder bike it's decidedly light.
The difference with the MT-09 and its torque is not an illusion. It's due to the fact that the torque curve is flatter and you get it right away, more like an electric motor. You have to look at dyno charts to understand the character of an engine, any nitpicking at peak numbers is just tomfoolery.
What a great review, thank you. I ride a 2017 FZ-09 and love it, but I would jump on the chance to test the Z900. I really like the looks of the bike. 👍🏼 on this Vid.
i have an 2016 fz09 that i bought recently for a hell of deal since the 17s were out and a buddy just bought a z900 i was gonna get a z until he wanted one. im glad i went yamaha after riding his, his suspension is better, but the throttle and feel of fz09 makes me feel like its a super bike. the z900 throttle felt loose and a lot of play and cheap after riding my fz09
Doesn't ring true about the Z900's throttle. It is sublime and vastly superior to the Yam's. Read every road test ,they all state the same. I have ridden both and the Z900's is far better. Clearly there is something wrong with your mates bike.
Syncmedz Jr i started with a Z 650 twin, perfect bike, rode 34000 km first year. Bougth a 2017 Kawasaki Z900 performancemy 2. Year. Love both bike, but I’m glad I started with 72 hk instead of 125 hk 💚
Start with a smaller bike so you get a firm grasp on how to control the bike. A bigger bike will be more stable. So it will be harder to turn. You have to have countersteering down or you will be just another guy on a liter bike with a huge chicken stripe riding it slower than you would go on a smaller bike all while your stress levels will be higher from not being 100% in control. It will be much more enjoyable starting on a smaller bike. Plus the newer smaller bikes are really good. Smaller bikes are not just for beginners. I am a retired AMA racer, I have big bikes right now but I would kill for a Kawasaki Ninja 400.
I absolutely hate the 2017 fz09 looks (personal opinion), although, the 2018 upgraded greatly to the point its really hard to decide which of the two bikes is better looking. I just can´t decide anymore
I started with a Z 650 twin ( er6n ) 2016, with 72 hk. Bougth a Z 900 performance my 2 . Year. Both got abs, and I’m very happy for that. Drove 34000 km first year with the Z650, perfect bike to start with.
There's things I don't like about both. Z900 is more severe lean than I prefer, could possibly be righted with higher handlebars. The MT-09 has that stupid looking headlights headlight.
I won't deny that the Z-900 is a great bike, because it is. But I think this is a pretty two-dimensional perspective. The FZ is somewhat in a league of its own. No other metric manufacturer offers a triple. Character alone is what draws me to the FZ. It has personality. Great the Z has 100cc's more, Great you get ABS for $200 cheeper, great it may be faster, but it's going to be similar to every other 4-cyl you've ever ridden no guts down low then it gets in its power-band and smooth power until redline. I mean great if that's what you want. I'll even venture to say the Z is a more refined motorcycle. But I guarantee you ride them back to back in an environment that is suitable you will probably have more fun on FZ/MT.
The Z900 actually is real torquey for an in line 4. I can't remember which magazine did it but they compared the two in engine flexibility and various roll-ons and they were both neck and neck until the Kawa got into it's stride and then pulled away. Both are great engines but the Yam is let down by it's suspension and snatchy throttle. Triumph and MV both make great triples by the way. The Street Triple 765 RS and R models are getting rave reviews everywhere.
I owned the Z900 for a year before trading on ADV (wasn't worth it). Anyway, was just at a Yamaha demo event the other week and took their updated MT-09 out, which had a factory Yoshi exhaust and comfort seat installed. Speaking of character? The Yamaha oozes it. The Kawasaki was fast, smooth, refined, surprisingly torquey for the i-4, but really lacked the pizzaz to keep me interested a long time. The Yamaha has a few flaws such as too soft springs, lack of proper damping rates, and small fuel capacity. Otherwise I really do prefer it over the Z. It's just so much fun, which is why some folks keep riding motorcycles. Performance? Meh. A tuned FZ would be quicker than a stock Z. A tuned Z would be quicker than a stock FZ. They are so close in equally tuned condition that it comes down to other things. One thing, I'm 6-2, 34 inseam. The FZ is more comfortable for taller people and has longer suspension travel if you consider running rougher terrain/roads. Both are great machines, just doing the thing differently. Yamaha has taken the abuse of a 6.5 psi turbo for some time, without any failures. Kawaski based the 950cc engine on the bigger Z1000/Ninja1000 block so it's been proven good as well. Light weight, torque everywhere, and triple soundtrack sending tingles down your spine (with a pipe). It's a combination that's hard to beat, in spite the other flaws. Some may think the power modes are gimmicky, but they really aren't. They suit the mood you want to ride in, A-mode being pretty scintillating. The Kawasaki doesn't need modes or TC, because it's so telepathically smooth, tractable, and predictable, easy to modulate throttle and traction (can be boring in contrast; but that's up to the rider to decide).
I need one of these naked fun bikes that my wife would feel safe on the back of, she wouldn't ride on the back of the z900, the rear seat is to tall and I don't want a honda Goldwing way to old man for me, yamaha fz1300 or a Kawasaki contour, is maybe more my speed, any opinions out there
all these comments about FZ09 (now MT09) suspension is somehow funny. suspension is something that you can easily upgrade. and the suspension of z900 is not that superior compared to the MT09. the motor, the engine, is what the most important about a bike, and MT09 got one of the best engine in nowadays naked bike class. plus, the latest generation MT09 fork is fully adjustable; rebound, damping, compression. yap, all old dudes always babbling about how they really don't need all the electronics. but just because you think you don't need it doesn't mean electronics such as riding modes are useless. it gives a bike versatility, more option to suit various riding situation. and it's mandatory in nowadays modern bike. in the end, not that I hate z900. it's looks badass as what sugomy should do. but please, both of MT09 and Z900 have it's pros and cons. choose what suit you best without saying other is inferior.
The Kawa's suspension is better than the Yam's. Yes you can upgrade it but it ain't cheap which defeats the object of these bikes in relation to their pricing. Having rode both, the Kawa is so easy to ride and super smooth and predictable. I certainly didn't need various riding modes to use it. If it had 150 hp plus then yes I would say you would need it. Both bikes are great and it will be interesting to see how the MT 09 SP goes with it's top notch new suspension.
@Boz yes, as I've mentioned above; "choose what suit you best without saying other is inferior". it's all depend on personal preference. about suspension, cheap or not is depend on what kind of upgrade you''ll do. I rode my buddy's first gen fz09 and yes, the fork is (sadly) bad. but after he replaced the spring with Stoltec Moto Linear Rate spring kit, the problem is gone. and it's only cost 42 bucks. I don't think that's expensive. upgrading suspension doesn't always mean you have to replace the whole system, so it's not always expensive and in fact, can be super cheap. have you ride the latest fz09 (now called mt09)? the fork are much better. I dunno man, like I said before, I don't hate z900, I even love the looks better than the MT09. but when we look at all the features such as less electronics, traditional axial mounted brake (really? all competitor bikes in this segment got a radially mounted front brake), etc. those are maybe seems like a small stuff, but that's obviously matter. it's just, z900 feels like a lil'bit one step behind. I watched a lot of reviews about it and yeah, all is positive; smooth, predictable, that kind of stuff. but have to admit, digital era are coming, all the guys have all of those fancy electronics, when you're the only one who doesn't, people sure will notice about that. but I know there are a lot of guys who doesn't care about that, so...if you're one of them, take the z900. it's definitely a beast.
Stop press. MCN tested the new MT09 SP and yes it's an improvement especially the back end but the forks still aren't great even though they are now fully adjustable. The bike sits too high at the front basically and it's this that spoils the steering /handling at higher speeds. The MT is more of a stunt bike/ super moto type while the Z900 and new Triumph 765 triples are more like comfortable sport road bikes. It depends on what you want. Personally for me I like the feel and attitude of a sporty road bike like the Z900 than a stunt bike. You pay your money and takes your choice. Happy biking.
Boz About the MT sits too high at the front, there's a simple adjustment everyone can do. Simply lose the triple clamp, and slide the forks upward by 5-10mm, you can play with the setting to your liking. Problem solved.
@jcizzle I have a z900 and rode it from Memphis to Knoxville. 95% of it was highway riding at roughly 90 mph the whole time and never got worn out from the wind. Might just be used to it tho
Z900 Thinking about buying one. (Yamaha FZ09 curb weight 425 lbs 3.69 lbs. per HP.,) (Kawasaki Z900 curb weight 458.6 lbs. 3.66 lbs. per HP) The Kawasaki has a slight edge in power to weight ratio, so it would depend on the weight of the rider who has the edge in a race. Overall i like the Z900 with the 4 cyl eng. 948cc and more tq.
How to make ANY bike ride the twisties better. Put HyperPro front fork springs on. They cost $300 installed, make sure you go to someone who knows suspensions. Chk my channel for some info n sick riding chhaaa
Right now in cycle trader dot com, they have new 2018 leftovers for both bikes in the $6,500 to $6,800 here in Florida! CRAP that is how much I shelled out for my then new 2006 SV650 !........ However, all prices being the same, I take the MT-09 since it has ABS and the power/traction options, bringing some level of geriatric safety for a 52 y.o. like me, plus I rather sit upright.....Imagine that, less than $8K out the door for a bike that will accelerate (up to the 1/4 mile) like a brand new Porsche 911 Turbo ($161K and up).....or any Supersport 600.....I just need to add this screen so that the wind will blow over my head while cruising at ## MPH www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/national-cycle-vstream-tall-touring-windscreen-yamaha-fz-09-mt-09-2017-2018
The Kawasaki is gorgeous in real life especially from the riding position, the tank and bars everything looks great. The FZ looks a little cheaper when ur on it the gauge looks like eBay garbage but the tank is cool. 2017 CB1000R was the most disappointing looking naked bikes I've seen in real life.

Nice write up. This is leaning me towards the z900 although I like fz09 looks better on the front end. Z900 heaslights seem fugly.
How is the ticking from the engine if there is any? im going the buy the 2020 z900. i have a kawasaki vulcan s now and the high ticking from the engine is so annoying.
Thank you! I've been wondering about that, as I'm looking seriously at the Z900 for my next bike. As a 5'7" myself, that was a concern. I owe you one.

Renso Alink nah that 2020 model is kawasexy

Getting one myself next year!
They fixed that suspension in the 2018
Is SP-Version of Fz09 availaible in your country?
Z900 if you want speed. FZ if you want the fun factor. The kawi is just another whine it out to 10k rpm bike
True, I have way too much fun on the MT09.. Whoolies for days
Imagine implying you can’t have fun on a Z900
ive had about 15 inline 4s i get what you mean , same old thing , lots of top end power etc but no character like the mt09
I have the Z900 and what I love about it is the seat height. At 5' 10" I can easily put my feet flat on the ground. No more tip toeing.
Mark Porter that and no dealing with that schizo throttle. And it goes where its pointed without trying to kill you. And it rides better.
Yeah i just bought one new on run out lol...
It isn't cheaper in Thailand.
MT for me. The power is an irrelevance. It's where the torque kicks in in the rev range.
I like the z900... It feels like a older liter bike power wise.. I still love the z1000. Wish they wouldnt of discontinued it.
rocco rostagno lucky for you, they’re bringing it back. Sorry for the 2 year delay. Lil
Lol
z900rs ! way more handsome than standard z900, and also the new headlights on MT09 is ugly, the old one is better.
iodineclip I own the z900RS & it’s a classic beast whoops both of them for sure 🤙🏽 ride on bro 🤙🏽
I Agree with you . I love my FZ09 , but after riding my old 2009 ZX6R I am craving another sport bike feel.
z900 is the fz-09 killer, and many more.
I have a 2016 FZ09 AND...its the shit !!! Funniest bike ever. SRT SPEEDY Mancaveproduct Kawasaki suspension is also not a pogo stick like it is on the fz09
The Z900 is like 440 lbs. I sat on one at the dealership and it felt lighter than my DRZ400 which weighs like 300 lbs. very well balanced.
The Z900 is feel very very light i agree compared to a z750 or z800...
@@Blackyamaha_R1the z900 is like 50 pounds heavier then a Fz-09
I've ridden the z900 at aimexpo last year and again a month ago on a demo ride. I am amazed how smooth It is and the seat height. I can easily flatfoot this bike over even my cute ninja 300. Ready to see the 2020 model as I expect a nice major update even up to a new TFT Dash.
Love my FZ09, it's a budget bike that I've worked on, and almost finished upgrading it. 2014 awesome...the Z900 is good
well what did u upgrade?
Why u didn't compare the new FZ-09 instead of this older model against Z900???
z900 all the way!
I love my FZ09 but I do want to test ride the Z900. It looks badass.
My Fz-09 still takes the z900 in a race all day. Until the stupid speed limiter, but after a flash it’ll eat the 900 for dinner and desert
Z900 for sure. Also sounds like you are in your car while recording this haha.
TheSpikeyBiker loooool maybe I am
I saw the z900 today at the dealer and i have to admit it look better in person and yes this is going to hurt me but it look like is build better than the fz 09 😔
Loved the Star Fox music
I got a z900 and love the bike
Great review. That's for the unbiased input.
if the price is simillar maybe i'll consider the mt09, but here in Indonesia the z900 cost about $16.7k brand new and the mt09 is $19.9k and it's the old model, not even the new '17 model.. easy choice :D
Jambrod 16.7!? Lol 6990 at my local dealer for a z900
A mt 09 cost more than usd18k here in Singapore cox of the papers, thats the shit bruh
Rode both, z900 is a typical inline 4, powerful, smooth, but nowhere near as exciting/crazy as the FZ 09...that thing is just insane....( 17' FZ also has more tech in it, for the same price)
Edit: the Kawi is also much heavier than the FZ(something you forgot to mention) Power to weight I think the yamaha comes out on top
Rode both, fz has power everywhere. Including the top end. Google 3 cyl
The Z900 is the faster more powerful bike AND handles better. It makes 10 more horses than the Yam and has a much nicer smoother throttle response. Fit and finish is also superior on the Kawa. Mcn and Mottorad tested them against each other and guess what? The Z900 came out on top. The extra weight of the Kawa is no problem whatsoever.
ridermagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Kawasaki-Z900-and-Yamaha-FZ-09-dyno-run-combined.jpg
Supernova12034 ....WRONG WRONG
MT09 ....HP 113.4 AT 10.000 RPM...TORQUE 87.5 NM AT 8.500 RPM.
Z900...HP 125 AT 9.500 RPM....TORQUE 98.6 NM AT7.700 RPM.
THE Z KILLS THE MT09 ....THE REST IS BULLSHIT.
What's your helmet?
there is an extremely small difference in their power to weight... the z900 has infinitesimally better torque to weight, and the fz09 gets infinitesimally better hp to weight ratio... but they're nearly identical. which is weird because all the comparisons say the fz is the go-to if you want plenty of torque for flicking through traffic. i guess it's an illusion brought on by the significant weight difference (nearly fifty pounds). if it feels easier to maneuver, maybe it makes it feel more torquey.
i think the weight difference and the traction and power modes will cause more people to buy the fz09, but i think i'm going to go with the z900 for its increased range, lower ride height, and smoother handling. i just wish the headlights were anywhere near as awesome as the fz.
i found this article very helpful:
ultimatemotorcycling.com/2017/06/21/kawasaki-z900-vs-yamaha-fz-09-comparison-test/
also, the hp and torque curves on the dyno were noticeably more linear on the kawa:
ridermagazine.com/2017/06/12/2017-kawasaki-z900-vs-2017-yamaha-fz-09-comparison-review/
I have a 2017 Z900 and I love it
I have a Z 900 performance, 2017 ...fantastic bike 💚
FZ09 can do wheelies easier(which isn’t necessarily a good thing) and the headlights are better but other than that z900 is way better.
I got the 18' mt-09 and I love it, but the z900 ain't bad looking either!
I have to one foot half a cheek the 09. I can flat foot the z900. It does fit my personality better
Having ridden both, the Z900 is the better bike. The FZ still wheelies better though...
Z900 yes please.
I am seriously thinking of getting the Z900
My buddy has the 17' Z900 and he cannot win a race vs my 2019 MT09. He only starts pulling away around end of 4th gear.
if you are buying a naked bike for a drag race then you are buying the wrong bike
@Dennis Yeoh , Fr @Bob Frankfurt sounds to me like he won the race then lmao
@@lazious91 Obvs I don't care much for highway races.. The Z900 just doesn't have the low/mid range power the MT09 has that's the end of it.
@@joslow9151 I rather the low end power on the MT09... wheelies for days
both are the best
i have an 2016 fz09 that i bought recently for a hell of deal since the 17s were out and a buddy just bought a z900 i was gonna get a z until he wanted one. im glad i went yamaha after riding his, his suspension is better, but the throttle and feel of fz09 makes me feel like its a super bike. the z900 throttle felt loose and a lot of play and cheap after riding my fz09
what i mean by suspension is low mph turning and thats it. on the highway they feel the same
Doesn't ring true about the Z900's throttle. It is sublime and vastly superior to the Yam's. Read every road test ,they all state the same. I have ridden both and the Z900's is far better. Clearly there is something wrong with your mates bike.
Would you recommend this bike for a starter rider? Cause I'm thinking about getting it but I don't really have much knowledge on bikes..
I loved the z1000. If this is anything like that, It should be great.
The Z900 steers and handles better than the Z1000.
Quite a bit different. I have them both and the 1000 has way way more power. Very noticeable difference in torque and power all the way through.
not sure what I was replying to. I have an fz09. I guess I was comparing it to the z900?
I absolutely hate the 2017 fz09 looks (personal opinion), although, the 2018 upgraded greatly to the point its really hard to decide which of the two bikes is better looking. I just can´t decide anymore
Xsr900 over Z900 all day
Z900 is PHAT
would this be your first bike? (Z900) ?
with 950cc i think its a bit much for a starter bike
I started with a Z 650 twin ( er6n ) 2016, with 72 hk. Bougth a Z 900 performance my 2 . Year. Both got abs, and I’m very happy for that. Drove 34000 km first year with the Z650, perfect bike to start with.
There's things I don't like about both. Z900 is more severe lean than I prefer, could possibly be righted with higher handlebars. The MT-09 has that stupid looking headlights headlight.
You fu....ing it or riding it
@@warrenseiboth3466 I've been riding long enough to know what I want and not be ashamed to ask for it.
@@fyorbane ha ha ive had 20 sport bikes ill take the comfort and the very light weight and the fun factor

Thanks for the info! Now that I've road a highway for 60+ minutes a handful of times, it's not too bad.
yeah what is it with kawasaki and youtube? theres not much to watch on the KLX450 either. is kawasaki dying?
Z900 Thinking about buying one. (Yamaha FZ09 curb weight 425 lbs 3.69 lbs. per HP.,) (Kawasaki Z900 curb weight 458.6 lbs. 3.66 lbs. per HP) The Kawasaki has a slight edge in power to weight ratio, so it would depend on the weight of the rider who has the edge in a race. Overall i like the Z900 with the 4 cyl eng. 948cc and more tq.
