Thanks for not click baiting us about you doing a wheelie in front of a cop!
if you have any bit of self control and maybe so dirtbike experience this is a great first street bike. i bought mine and rode it in b mode for maybe a month and couldn’t be happier with the purchase
I have a 16 that I bought new, Armor Gray with the fancy yellowish wheels. I've owned many sport bikes throughout my life. I came off an R1 and went to the FZ09. I got really tired of the discomfort of sport bikes. I'll tell you even after owning this bike a couple years it still puts a smile on my face. Seat comfort sucks for really long rides until you switch it out. Also, the wind resistance does suck at higher speeds, but everything else is better in my opinion as far as usability and comfort. This bike has a little bit of everything for a reasonable price. It's a really good bang for your buck by far!
I describe my relationship with my MT09 as "She terrifies me, but I'd have it no other way."
2002StarCustom i tested one. Decided Id either A lose my licence or B be dead inside 6 months. So I bought an XVS1300a lol.
Damn they go though ey
@@sugarnads I have your xvs1300, I'm thinking of a mt09,
The MT09 ( yes I’m in the UK ) is a total hoot ! I’ve had my 16 plate ABS model for 3 years and still love it! Flashed ECU, Akrapovic, very sorted, and mental. True about not a beginner bike though, I’ve been riding over 30 years and owned bigger faster more powerful bikes, but this thing is a beast! 👍🏻
2002StarCustom 😂
same lol
I personally love the throttle on the stock 09. B mode does make a HUGE DIFFERENCE. But with a ECU flash and dyno and air box mod. My bike made 123 whp. (2014 fz09). Stock isn't 104hp its more like 113ish
My first bike is the FZ-09, all you need is ATGAT, an MSF course, a brain, and some self-control.
I prefer some of the gear most of the time.
You mean AGATT right ? All, gear, all, the, time. Don’t confuse me man I’m trying to learn here 😂
@@thomas0086 no ATGATT
Don't forget years of experience. Getting a licence and doing a safety course is no substitute for "bum on seat" experience. Hate elitist mentality. Having paper certification isn't an opt out of putting in the hours of honning your skills. That said some riders who have ridden for years are just as mediocre as their first day riding on full licence. Getting your licence is only the first step.
I literally have ridden a bike barefoot once
Picked up my MT09 year of construction 2018 two days ago. A beautiful bike. Since I'm still a novice driver, I have to get used to the performance. Greetings from Germany, Bavaria.
More then 36 miles?
Have one with 2,500 miles and the acceleration is nothing but pure violence....
2500 is nothing. Bet it will have violent acceleration to 50k miles
@@logannewcome I've done 30000 on mine still the same, mental bike
I don't think you understand what they were saying. They are saying even after they have rode 2500 the acceleration still feels like day 1.
Mike V I don’t think you understand what the others are saying. 2,500 is hardly any mikes at all, of course it rides like day 1...
@@danielmorris5470 I don't think you understand the concept of what others are saying. After 2500 miles, the bike still have violent acceleration like when it first rolled out of the dealership.
Awesome videos. I like a lot everything specially the word of wisdom and spreading the gospel
God bless you
I've wanted one of these since they came out. Reminds me of my 1980 XS850 but with 40 years of technology improvements. I have three bikes now... By God this needs to be my 4th.
I have this bike. Mines a 16 with the yellow wheels :). The sound from the triple is amazing. I'm slowly becoming one with the bike haha. I've been pushing her harder lately around the corners. It is my 2nd bike and I've only been riding for 2.5 years. It was a big jump from my cbr500 haha. It's all on throttle control.
i fell in love with this engine the first time i rode it back when it first came out, even with the sensitive throttle (i though a mode was the most responsive to throttle input then!). i wanted one ever since. i finally got a 2017 fj-09 this past january and couldnt be happier!
Would you recommend it for a relative novice? Ridden some dirt bikes and an MT-07 few times, thinking of getting one of these.
@@stefanpetrov8 just do it if that's what you want. There's an acclimation period with any new bike. Just take it easy for a few weeks and get to know her and you'll be good to go. Just because the bike is capable of filthy power and speeds - that doesn't mean you have to do it. My first bike back in the day was a V65 magna that was gifted to me by my dad in the late 90's and that thing was a rocket ship but I took it easy and respected it.
I love mine, after aging out of super sports. I get that it's not totally beginner friendly, but the Traction Control + ABS makes any bike multiple degrees safer.
It's an awesome bike! I have the 2018 MT-09, been riding it in `B` and `Standard` modes for the first 3000 km. `A` mode is completely HOOLIGAN, the front wheel just won't stay on the asphalt.
Definitely not a bike suitable as your first bike...even if you have ABS, TCS and the B mode. I've had 12k km done on a Honda Hornet as a beginner, now I feel like this MT-09 is ALL you could ever want from a bike.
The only problem with this bike is that it has so much torque and lower-mid range power, the front is so light(actually the whole bike feels light as a bicycle) that you are compelled to get to the dark side of just wheelie-ing the shit out of it. :)) As someone mentioned in one of the comments, this bike will turn any average and self-controlling biker into a hooligan. It just does, there is no other way to ride it.
I've ridden both and I still prefer a tweaked 07
Well it is a city bike, short gears hence more torque for obvious reasons
Lmao everything you just said in that entire paragraph I want this bike so bad lmao
I have to agree. I ride my fz 09 and I hit that daily 100, daily lol
Yep I agree, a mode all the time lol
"You were going 150 and got CAUGHT..... you were going 150." I cant stop laughing
I have a 2016 fz-09 and it's my favorite bike ever I've been riding since I was 6yo now I'm 36 I've probably had more than 50 different bikes over the years but I will always keep a fz/Mt 09 absolutely so fun can't recommend it enough Thanks for your videos
Thank you for preaching the word of God my brother. Keep up the good work. Don't be afraid to witness for Jesus Christ.
We shall all do.
Zeus > Jesus
Amen brother
I went and bought a FZ09 after watching this video and....holy wow....power house. I primarily ride in B mode because it is an absolute beast in standard and a mode
I switched to naked sport bikes after riding off and on for over two decades on the street, and almost 10 years on the dirt before i could get a motorcycle license. I liked my cbr 600 and some of my other bikes, but i do prefer naked bikes now. Both for cost, and my back. From now on i will try to get hold over naked sport bikes. I also find i have more fun at reasonable speeds on these types of bikes. Sure i might get going kind of quick, but i can have fun at not lose my license and life speeds now.
~snerk~ FZ-09 and "keep you out of trouble" in the same sentence. That bike is pure trouble haha, you just trade 160mph for endless dank whoolies. Literally every FZ-09 owner I know probably spends more time on 1 wheel than 2 haha.
Gotta agree with you
I can agree 110%
@@blazinkiller08 120% bro, he nailed it!
New MT09 owner here. I might as well have bought a unicycle with a round front kickstand.
I never wheelie, more into quick take offs and cornering.
I have an MT07 and love the idea of an MT09 as a commuter bike for work (40 miles) with the extra power for the long road BUT I hate the wind pressure on the MT07. And I feel like I’ll have more of it on the 09, which is why I’m leaning towards a R1 or CBR600 🙌
Interesting how that works. I’ve got an 07 and I’m of the same mindset
U are right my buddy has a 2017 R6 and my other buddy has a 14-16 FZ-09 they raced and FZ-09 walked the r6 till they got up past 110 mph
thanks for watching
My dream bike.
My first bike that I have currently ie a 1982 honda cb900f. I'm fixing it up right now. So excited. 😇 God Bless.
Hey! I got a 77 kz1000 im wanting to fix up too. Just saying! Been wrestling with myself to go through with it. Want to have a new z900 or gsxs1000 so im dragging my feet. I think if id just fix my bike I'd probably be satisfied
I bought this bike as my first bike. Takes a lot of caution until you get used to it. I love this bike.
Clayton Hills any advice? I would like to get one as my first bike as well.
Erasmo Nieves Its a really snappy and powerful bike. As long as you gently use the throttle you will get used to it. I love my fz09. It’s an awesome bike. Just have to be careful until you get to know the bike
Will the twitchy throttle not be a problem if you're used to it?
Neil Kee exactly. Once ur used to it it’s really smooth. I’m sad I have to put the bike away for the winter soon.
I've been riding collectively for over 8 months. I still think this will be a prob for me. I'm used to 300s and 600s but people say this thing is just on a league of its own.
The wheelie in front of the cop though lol. That made me gasp.
All I can think of when watching these is how much space there is between the houses and how nice and tidy everything is there and there's is hardly any traffic . Not like that in the south east of England that's for sure. Great bike as well ☺️👍
Shaun, that 09 is a monster! I was able to take a few y6 on a beginners track day on my MT07, obviously no bueno on the straightaway, but as soon as its twisty.. ooo weeee... never had the 09 on a track but it's all the awesome usable power .. grinns for miles!
Gradually I'm convinced, everything you said about these v supersport bikes makes sense. Never thought I say this but, for my next road bike I won't even be testing the R1m, but something like this
Got a 2018 09 as a first bike only taken the CHP classes and I love it. Had it in B mode for a long time tho and only dropped it once in the garage trying to get on it 🤦🏿♂️
Coming from an FZ09 owner... you really hit the nail on the head... i totally agree with every point you made... ive been watching a few of your vidz and i kinda feel like you're the Kelley Blue Book of bikes... i also do review vidz... but not like you!... keep it up man!
the noise this thing makes is just incredible.
I have the similar motor the yxz it is definitely one of the best sounding Motors out there
Love the FZ09 the FJ09 is my real love. The shield and hard saddle bags rock and give you somewhere to put some stuff!!
I'm a month away from 1 year owning my fz 09. I like it even more then when I got it lol.
great bikes for sure. be safe brother
I wonder if Jesus would pull some wheelies if he got on one.
The answer is yes...around Judas's grave.
Oh you bet Jesus was a cool dude. He would 100% have wheelied across the sea of galilee on an MT09 if they existed during his time on earth.
Only if he sees a pharisee highway patrol.
On water !
He would do a stoppie on juda's grave 😜
I disagree! My FZ09 was my first bike and Ive been doing just fine! Matter of fact I wheelie the shit out of it and I’ve only had it for a year
Awesome thanks for the comment ima get one then 🤷🏽♂️ lol screw it
That makes me feel better cause I just bought a fz8 for my first bike. Lol
Same with me, but I’ve had a 450 dirt bike since I was 14 so I’m used to a stupid amount of power.
Personally, this is the type of bike that I would prefer, and you did a great job of expressing why. My sister used to have a Honda 919, and I thought it was a great bike.
It's just too easy to be irresponsible on one of the super sports.
That intro lmfao “oh” the most regretful “oh” I’ve ever heard
I almost bought this same bike. Decided on a lightly used 2018 Triumph Street Triple R. Paid a bit more but it felt more refined and stable at speed. I’ve had it to 125 tucked and hit had more but no need to go that fast on a naked. As you said it’s just no fun. The FZ-09 is killer machine.
LOL at doing a wheelie in front of a cop. Jesus protected you.
God blind thy police! ahahahha
Praise God!
Lmao to this comment 🤣
Jesus grab the handle bars?
or the devil sent porn to the cops phone to distrct him....lol
I have one. It frightens me too! I only ride in 2B mode. 0-60 it is on a par with an F1 car - amazing bike.
Uncanny how the talk of racing was set against the background of a cemetery!
I have a 2016 fz09, ECU been redone, exhaust and tune air intake. This bike fucken smashes. I pick on the 600 all day. My buddy has a zx14 and I was getting him out of the hole all the way tell 70. Wheeling the whole time. This bike is perfect for the city. Dont get me wrong I've been beat in the long run but right out the gate this thing is untouchable.
I hear you, I traded in my 170 mph Aprilia Tuono for a FZ 09 for exactly the reason you said, I needed something that scared me in triple digit.... and the 09 needs an exorcist when you hit 110.
Lol” my 170 mph aprilia”
@@javadose317 dude you don't think an 1100 v4 would do it? Lol
Only one bike I would have over my FZ09.....is an 1100 V4 Tuono...
Hi guys did you know that there;s an Australian company called Extreme Creations that do a turbo kit for these and it makes an extra 40whp,they started doing it on the MT/FZ07 which from the full power model 75HP made 115whp then turned the boost up and made 135whp, Watch the vid because its a simple installation but needs a dyno and powercommander. The MT/FZ 09 was making close to 180WHP and that as you know is CARZY POWER for these bikes with standard internals and i was surprised how cheap the kit is at around 2500 US for the mt07.
I mean this is like... this is 14 pounds heavier than my next door neighbour!
Just ride them then
Yamaha mt07 rider here, it’s more than enough power for a first bike. I smile every single time I’m on it. I couldn’t imagine starting on this.
I don’t know much about breaking in motors, but hitting the rev limiter with so few miles is probably advised against in the Yamaha manual. Or have things changed in the last few years?
Hit 126mph on my 2020 Ice FLuo 9 the other day. My first bike. With a DPM windscreen and a good tuck, it felt fine. 100-115 happens easily and often on this bike.
Spot on describing this bike!! I had a 2016 blue FZ09 and put a few thousand miles on it,, super light super twitch but like you said at highway speeds no fairings at 100 plus it was too hard to deal with,, besides I like doing sustainable speeds of 120mph on the open road, so sold it with 6k and grabbed a used R6 and love it !!
You should be on a race track. IDC how good you think you are, no one should be going that fast on public roads.
This was my first bike, I didn’t do my research and was shitting myself for a year riding it... but it’s a year later now and I’m still shitting myself.
Do you not recommend getting one as a first bike?
This was the video that convinced me to buy my first bike. I will be buying another one this year. Bought my other in 2018 and put 25k miles on it.
I just picked up a 2013 MT-09. And he’s right, it’s very twitchy in A & STD mode. B mode is a lot easier whilst getting used to it. A magic bike to ride. Lots of punch down low,&very nimble. The best way to describe it,is like a trail bike on steroids. Same riding position. Same uncomfortable hard seat. & same tank.....too small. I’m barely getting 200km from full. Having said that, it’s a great round town bike. Certainly not something I’d take cross the country, but lots of fun. Considering how light it is, very solid on the road at high speeds. And like he said, cheap as well. Being 6 years old,&having 18k on the clock, I got mine for 8G. That’s Aussie dollars. And that’s from a shop, so private would be cheaper again.
This is my first and only bike, I spent the first year of riding in B mode
My 1st streetbike was an 02 gsxr1000. I had plenty of experience with dirtbikes but the difference in riding position and power delivery was just insane. I was 20yrs old so i was doing crazy sh$t. I had it for 1 season and lived through it thank God and traded it for a CBR600RR which was the best bike i ever owned. 100hp is enough for me. My 04 z1000 was a keeper too.
Great, informed review man, thanks! Been lusting after it, and probably gonna get it. Have all the concerns you and others have mentioned, I just don't want it to be so spirited that it is annoying, I do like to tour as well so wind protection is giving me some pause. Instability at 100 also makes me a bit less interested I suppose. Hm. Z900 is also on my short list.
I agree this bike is really a lot of fun I wish I had this bike years ago ,I run with 2 gsxr 750 in the mountains and it hangs with them very well but the one thing that made this bike was I put a steering dampener on it right off the handle bars I have to dial it manually from hard to soft and when its dialed to hard you can do a corner at 100 with one hand no shake at all,the best thing I could of done its simply awesome.
@5:35 i can 100% confirm that situation. After bugging my dad to swap bikes with me for a little while (I ride a ninja 500r) i did exactly what you did 😂😂😂 ended up riding it out but god damn did it surprise me. After a solid year of riding I'm looking to get my own fz-09 😂
My buddy just had his ZO8 stolen a few weeks ago. He let me borrow it a few times. It is a very stable bike. I'm not a fan of the super tight clutch, but I'm sure you get used to that after a while. With all the power you can get up to speed in no time. Very fun. No fairing or windshield will slow you down on the highway. I always felt like the wind was going to peel me right off at higher speeds.
Ha! I made that comment before I watched to the part where he specifically mentions the wind.
Great video man. You cover just about everything. 👌🤙 like the wheelies too. “Back in business” 😂😂😂
I owned a 15 FZ09 and loved it. I traded it in for a cruiser for better passenger riding and kinda regret it. It was an awesome bike and I want to buy another as a 2nd bike. I did notice that around 110MPH I would get handle bar shake and I would back off. I did have a big touring windshield on mine and that may have contributed to that.
Let me know when you want me to come in man! That triple will SMOKE my twin, but we'll go for it :)
Getting a 2014 fz1 this week first bike looks like a good one I’m 6’3 but hopefully I can still lean forward when needed
I own a 2019 mt09 and I literally dust my buddy’s gsxr600 up to about 100 or 110, after that his gearing kicks in and he’s gone
I have the 2018 XSR900 and with B mode and Traction Control on level 2 your grandma who has never ridden a bike could ride the bike no problem.
I love it when you start your review with phrases from the scripture. May God guide you 🙏 Amen
I’m about to part out one of my cars to buy one of these. I just recently got my first bike and I’m seriously addicted. I will own one of every style of bike.... at the same time.
Damn it’s been a year already.
Yeah after about 100 the front end gets light.... it feels like a tank slapper is coming.
Bike has no high speed aerodynamics. It's made for twisties but I would have a steering stabilizer tho
@ same. Most of the time I keep it around 75 or 80. Feels good at that speed.
How's the wind at 80? Is it comfortable or does it beat you up? I'm looking at getting one to commute and play but 20 miles of my commute is interstate.
From what I understand the throttle mapping was fixed to be much better after 14' which is where most of the complaints came from.
Nice job on the review. Fun bike. Ride safe.
A little late but i ride a dirtbike cause im 15 but as soon as i get a job and the money im gonna get one of them for my first street bike man. And thank you for the review love your channel by the way

best bike reviews on RUclips ! Thank you
Yamahas baddest streetfighter? Have a '17 FZ10 and can definitely say the fz09 is awesome but not quite the baddest when you compare it to the FZ10. 🙂
Mt10 is faster but the MT09 is pure torque . Mt09 =perfect hooligan bike.
Sometime in 2016, I guess, I heard LOTS of reviewers saying that the FZ(MT)-07 was just too much to handle for beginners as regards the wheelies and controlling the bike in general. Then, in early 2018, the MT-07 was suddenly a pussycat, and was even being used as a training bike at riding schools. Go figure! Good video!
Kevin Phillips yeah, in the Netherlands it's oftenly used as a riding school bike
My Ducati 821 is twitchy to. I think it's the fly by wire throttle.
I get why bikes have fly by wires nowadays... but I've had nothing but either twitchy ones or ones with weird dead spots in their throttle range. They have got the smoothing right in most cars (my BMWs throttle literally feels and is weighted just like a cable operated one, it's perfect. Idk why they can't make them perfect on these newer bikes 😪
Basically it’s very close to a R6 in power to weight but with this you get more torque and an upright seating position! That’s why I want one or a MT10! Either is fine with me!
The bible verse was the most important part of your vid man. Keep standing for truth and having the courage to ride that bad ass bike.
I just traded my bike for an 08 fz1 and its a wicked fast bike. Its the fastest bike ive owned and ive only put a few hundred miles on since ive bought it but they are great bikes to drive.
is this bike good for tall rider. im 6'2 and never seem a fz-09
I am 6'1 and it's super comfortable for me. The stock handlebars are quite high which will keep your riding position more or less upright
bought the new 2021 mt 09 today and took it on a ride, never revved over 6k because its brand new so dont wanna stress the engine too much before its worn in but damn it moves :D
that scripture was fire bro. nice moto. = )
Was thinking of upgrading my cbr500r to a cbr600rr, but this video might just have changed my mind. The hp increase will take some getting used to but I've been riding the cbr for a few years and I've definitely found it's limits by now. Thanks for this and God bless from your newest subscriber
Look into a cb650r , I had a cbr600rr and my fz09 feels way more powerful with a slight twist of the throttle, but a 600 is different up top, if I could start over again I’d definitely try a cb650. 2cyl, 3cyl, 4cyl all ride differently regardless of the cc size.
@jessiecoleman9351 this was over 4 years ago that I posted this. Ended up getting a yamaha mt09. The cb650 has the same hp as the cbr500r in my country
Love the post it notes mate 😂😂👍🏿👍🏿🇦🇺🇦🇺🇺🇸🇺🇸
And youre dead right about it not being for beginners.
The one i test rode would wheelie in 4 at 60kph if you hit a bump. The Aussie spec i think has 115hp.
Yeah, so does the European version, 115hp.
My 07 fz1 is not stock and it went 177mph last weekend. Still had more but that's too fast as it is. Honest it made me wish I still had my fz6. Love the FZ bikes : )
Fz1 is only 26 pounds more. And they started making the good ones back in 06
I know that comment is old but my mt09 is supposed to be less jerky than the fz series and it still wants to pull your arms off
I just bought the exact same bike. With 3k for miles. 2016. Full yoshimura exhaust. Mint. I.g. is j.acencc

Hey sean that bike known as MT09 in europe, ive got the FZ 8 800cc inline four and is great all rounder not as fiesty as the 9
also 9:20 the R6 has a 3.2 sec 0-60 this fz 09 has a 2.7 sec 0-60 beats it in a quarter mile too
R6 3.2s doubt
Mt 09 doesnt have 2.7s aswell
R6 3.2 sounds about right. My sv650 would do 0-60 as fast as or faster than a 600. After 60mph though different story..
@@paulnolan6866 Best I got about 3.1 Sec out of my Ninja 650 but due to GPS apps accuracy, lets be conservative and I averaged around 3.3-3.4 I got an S1000XR and that thing regularly cracks 2.8-2.9 on the lower power modes so if someone competent launches an MT-09 I think it'd easily do what i said in my comment 2 years ago :P
Can you do a video on your camera and audio set up ,thanks Yours sound great I have a hero7 and lots of audio problems Good vid Do you like the mt10
Love the scripture at the beginning!
Thanks its a fun way for me to expose people to some bible.
The front tire splits the air but the fender and radiator catch air and kinda create lift 120+ in my opinion... i added a windscreen that cleaned up the upper air suprisingly well.
I find if you use a very light hold on the bars and just let it eat, you'll be fine the tighter you hold the bars the more it will wiggle, I know it sounds a little counterintuitive, but it does work, I've hit 151 indicated, and regularly go above 140.
What a great vid.. thank you but with it still in its break in miles, should you have really been hitting those rpms? Just saying 🤣
Is the older models better?? Heard the newer ones 2016 up isn't the same bike
