      Somewhat. Depends on the bike. The differences between first generation mt-09s and newer ones is negligible. Can't say that for...dunno, an Africa Twin :)
      Picking an older mt-09 with suspension that's not crap, and fuelling that's way better than stock, seems logical for not much tradeoff at all.

    I am eagerly awaiting my new Tracer 9 GT, it comes in March (I hope). I bought a 660 Ténéré in 2015 for commuting, I had a loaner once which was a MT07. Too small for me (I'm tall) but the engine was great. Now I stopped commuting, so I wanted a MT09. After looking at what was available I wanted the Tracer GT, saw that Yamaha was putting new models out so when the Tracer 9 GT was on show at the Bikestore I went there, thought a couple of days and then traded in the Ténéré. I have had a number of bikes, but the electronics on this one are new to me; another adventure :-).

    I am considering an MT-09 Mk1. I think that the most important part of the looks is what you can see when riding. These are cheap secondhand - I live in northern Thailand - and if I can find a really good example, I'll certainly consider it. I'll keep my 390 Duke Mk2 as a second bike.
    Good video.

    Mt09 with upgraded suspension and forks is a keeper motorcycle, fantastic engine, good suspension, its just a splendid bike, not a step, it doesnt matter if its ''old'' if its the one YOU choose , every bike has its own character, and just bcuzz theres newer , it doesnt mean its what a specific person might prefer.

    MT09 Gen 1 Owner! Imo i think gen 1 is the best, no abs, no tc and no quick shifter. personally i think the QS is stressful for our chain and sprockets, way more chain adjustment when running a qs. plus gen 1 is the first of a cracking wee bike, i actually love the headlight on the gen 1 , its bright, pretty big but does its job perfectly, i do recommend the SHAD COMFORT SEAT.. A Must for 500+ miles... nice bike btw.. Stay safe

    The gold front forks look so good in combination with the white of the wrap. I got myself the "old" one too because I found a nice example of a unique bike.
    Buying an older, but modded out bike is the best option with money's tight. I still have yet to cross over the price of a newer model considering the mods I have on the MT right now (Öhlins rear shock from an MT-09SP) Still hate the brakes tho so those will have to be upgraded.

    Rebel 500, but I don't own it yet :D
    I'll be a first-time rider next spring, and I wanted a bike that won't give me hassle in maintenance, that has a comfortable position, enough power to not feel like a moped, but not too much power to scare me. A simple bike with the necessities, but no additional bling.

  • @Niemandeiner
    @Niemandeiner 4 года назад +1

    you call that a bumpy road???
    maybe you should come over and take a look at germany.. :D
    i choosed my last bike because it was good.
    in every manner.
    it was big enoungh to fit my height, fast enough to get around in this country in one day, easy enough to ride safe, and had some decent features added (mostly after buying it) :)
    it was amazing, even when last built in 2003 or 04, it was still up to date and longlastig for me and my purpose for it;
    an everyday and everywhere bike to make over 34.000km in a year on it, and still being cheaper than any car.
    and i just loved my TDM 900.
    and i will get a new one, one day :)

    I could not ride or even drive on those crazy looking UK streets. I ride a 2010 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic Fire Fighter Special Edition. I chose this bike because I retired from the Fire Rescue Service after 30 years as a Captain. Prior to that I was trained to fight fires in the United States Navy (mostly aircraft fires) and also spent a few years fighting forest wildfires in New Jersey. I just loved the business. I named my bike "Big Red" after a fire truck that I spent many years on. I love everything about "Big Red". I currently have over 71,000 miles on it even though I haven't ridden it much in the past year and a half due to health issues and minor injuries. I'm preparing myself and "Big Red" for my next journey which will take me through many different states in the United States. Stay safe and stay healthy.

    I chose mine (Duke 390) because it scared the hell out of me during the test ride. Challenge Accepted is all I could think of after the test ride and booked it the same day. Today it has taught me so much about control, power delivery, cornering and still puts a smile on my face every time I ride it 😅

    • @stefanpetrov8
      @stefanpetrov8 2 года назад

      Which bike scared you, the Duke 390? I'm about to buy a new bike, have ridden a few dirt bikes but only ridden an MT-07 a few times. Can only find an MT-09 and a Duke 390 used, and can not decide between them. How is the Duke?

    • @bonvoyageVinay
      @bonvoyageVinay 2 года назад

      @Stefan Petrov yeah Duke 390 was handful for me at first because I was a newbie. Now, I can handle it absolutely fine. Duke 390 has held up good without any major reliability issues (66000 kms). I would recommend changing the resr shocks as it is too soft now matter how many adjustments you make to it. 09 is a different beast. I would recommend taking a test ride of both of the bikes so that you can make your decision.

    Nice content, well produced. Love your diction too. Ive been a fan/owner of the BMW F800S since 2007, for all the reasons you like the OLD MT09. I secretly want an MT09 after test riding one but because I've mainly had Ducatis and BMWs my snobbery is challenged. AND my last Yamaha was a new 1980's XJ650 shaft as my first bike back in the 80s. Back then the metal quality was still a bit soft and pre alloy frames, it left that disappointing "fast ageing" Japanese bike lingering feel. I know, I should get over it. MT09 is on my list, maybe when it comes kitted with some nice extras like yours did (I agree on your motivations).

    Made me think a little bit more about wanting to upgrade to an mt09 next year. Had my eyes on the 2017+ mainly because of the looks, that headlight looks so damn good, but as you said - you don't really see the headlight when riding. So when weighing design vs rideability, if there's and 'old' mt09 with suspension upgrades being cheaper than a 2017+ with stock suspension the choice should be pretty easy.

    • @hisride
      @hisride Год назад +2

      are we just ignoring the fact that you can upgrade the headlight? Afternarket has led options that look better than all the other gens plus im sure you can just buy a 2nd gen light and put it on the first?

  • @DerpEye

    I've grown out of these bikes. Considering the amount of secondary roads, sometimes gravel, sometimes even worse, i came to prefer bikes with long travel suspensions. Last one is the Africa Twin, the 2017 one. You can't strap hard bags to a sports naked bike and enjoy a 500kms weekend ride with a passenger, without it being a terrible experience. You can do that with an adventure bike. Sure, it's less fun to ride, but with the speed limits, the state of the roads and traffic, it isn't advisable ride too fast anyway. Also, exploring around now is so much easier since i can basically go anywhere.

    Right at the 3.19 mark, you had already read my mind! Yes, when on a bike you can’t see what it looks like from the front! In my humble opinion, I don’t ride bikes so “I look good on them” rather and more importantly what I get from a riders perspective! 👍😎🇦🇺 (yes I’ve included a flag) as it just a symbol that means a nation better at motorbikes.... or should I say all sports you South African’s play.... love the review, two thumbs up from me! 👍👍😎

    I 1000% like this look better than both 2017 and 2021. I also own a 2015 with front and rear ohlins, full akra exhaust, quickshifter, brembo master, sbb lines, etc and wouldn't give it up for anything. I think what really changes the front headlight is the HID light that's installed and blinds all oncoming traffic, it looks different than stock not only when it's on

    I choose mine as it looks nice plus it already comes up with better upgrades rather than what it came with.

    As an english man, I know the pain. Sometimes it presents a challenge. I managed to get my 30-40 minute car commute down to 15 minutes on the bike on very similar roads shown in the start here.

    Definitely prefer the 'old' MT-09. The new headlight looks awful IMO. Great videos! Love your channel...

    The best perk on the new (not the latest) one isn't the headlight. It's the quickshifter! And you also have the SP version with ohlins. Have that one

    Having no riding experience I was quoted double what I pay for my lil Yamaha MT-125, for a Yamaha YZF-R125!!! 😮
    OK I'm only paying £150 for my MT, So being 42 years old & 25 years driving experience has some benefits! 🤣👍
    Love your BIG MT & all your content dude! 👍😎

    An MT09 with upgraded suspension and a pipe! What could be better?

    the new mt09 can be just as badass as the 2014 one. turn everything off and you have an even more hooligan of a bike. the hart is a mt09. but they have made it so everyone can enjoy the bike to their skill limits. that the 14 model does not offer even b mode is batshit crazy and a mode is total hooligan mode.
    love my mt09 tracer. stunning machine.

    Does your dashboard turn blue at night after you did the black mod ?

    I would just throw in some good LED headlights in there and call it a day. I live India and I choose the Yamaha fzs v3 because it's a beginner friendly bike with power spread throughout the rev range. Its only 150cc but its enough for everyday use and it looks muscular the seat could have been better and maybe a little more power 😬.

    Hey, so the new look of the MT I don't like.. headlight is the down side ofc. I love your 09 and if you don't like the headlight you always can change that. 👍
    I choose the 07 because I love the concept on this bikes and the most part that I love is the engine CP2. 💪💪💪 (I want the CP3 but no money 😜).
    And here in my country its expensive have bikes then more 750cc. (nsurance, taxes anual, material and services).
    Stay safe and ride fast. ✌🚀🔥

    I used to prefer the look of the "older" model with the single headlight, but i pulled the trigger on a 2018 sp. The 2021 looks ugh imo, and not only the headlight...

    Man i do love the new models specially those fancy headlights but this mt09 does look really dope and as u said, its the riding experience that matters. And there is nothing as fun as a naked. I have been riding a sport bike for last 6 years and lately i am so fed up of the riding posture that i cant wait to get rid of the clipons and install a high handlebar and have a new experience. And since you got the mt09 after the r1 and r6 😂😂
