- Nikolas Cruz is facing a possible death sentence for killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018. Stephen Schusler, who lived across the street from Cruz, testified about his interactions with Cruz, including how Cruz would run in the neighborhood. Schusler at one point provided a demonstration showing how Cruz ran.

Why are so many people calling this guy a creep? He was in his driveway, working on his motorcycle. It's easy to see the neighbor across the street. Maybe too many of y'all never go outside because it's too hard to see your screen in the sunlight.
The creep was the nosey neighbor that wants us to believe she is helping the killer as a mother figure.
I think it had a bit too much of an impact on him, most ppl don't notice kids in their neighborhood as much as this guy...
He sodomized Nick probably
@Lola V It's not creepy at all. Sounds like projection on your part.
Exactly
One thing that drives me nuts about judges is how they scold witnesses as if the witness is familiar with court proceedings. I understand she has to control things but there is a way to say things that is much more polite.
I noticed that too.
I’m not a fan of this judge at all. I think she’s overcompensating a bit because this is probably the biggest trial of her career.
She was so snobby to him!
Shes insufferable.
Witnesses usually know for quite a long time in advance that they're going to be testifying. It's the responsibility of the lawyer to prepare the witness, including explaining all of the rules. I'm also pretty sure that the court independently explains the rules to them
He really cared about giving the best damn good testimony he possibly could and I applaud him for that
I do too! Amen. The guy was called as a witness and he was as articulate as he could be. Everyone just shut up already!
And so do I Bravo!!!
@James Terry why this ain't the cooking channel
He's a frustrated actor
It’s a “bizarre” demonstration because he’s demonstrating something bizarre…done by someone who did something heinous…and bizarre.
This was a defense witness and it was a complete act to suggest to the jury that the heinous criminal was crazy. And unfortunately it worked. F this guy, a paid actor and liar.
@@CDM416 The resulting verdict
13:03 I can’t keep a straight face. 🤭🤭
I'm still having difficulty registering what part of this was bizarre. He's literally doing what he was asked to do. Some people are just stupid. He's a great witness and he did what he was asked.
He seemed to pour all his effort into being clear and accurate. I think he is very conscientious. His observations are normal for a person who is extremely aware of their surroundings. Maybe he is ADHD and takes in much more than the average person. Regardless, he took great effort in being thorough. I would love to have him for a neighbor. 😎
He's just not as emotionally affected by the tragedy as most of the other witnesses. So he can be clear, accurate and use his story-telling skills accordingly. If his kid or grandchild had been killed by that disgusting goatman (look at his stupid bumfluff), I think it would be more tear-jerking than this clip.
The judge should have put a stop to it. Perhaps she didn't because in this case it actually wasn't prejudicial to the defence, who would like to see the defendant depicted as being of diminished capacity. Nevertheless, it is unacceptable and certainly grounds for review. In other trials far less blatant antics have been shut down fast. This is a CIRCUS. And the testimony is VILE.
@@combatepistemologist8382 stop defending a kid killer
The demonstration was bizarre because he was imitating the ridiculous way he saw Cruz running, his testimony beyond that was detailed and engaging.
The witness is not giving bizarre testimony. He is trying to be as accurate as possible.
He's detailing a bizarre incident. Is what I think they meant to write? 🤔
@@breewashere FOX is saying his demonstration off the witness stand was bizarre. The man was detailed throughout his testimony for sure!
Stupid Fox news
Exactly! I think he was a great witness.
You cannot say that wasn't bizarre
It was not necessary for the judge to raise her voice or speak in such a condescending manner toward the witness. He did a very good job at explaining and I’m certain he tells great stories to his grandchild.
While it may seem trivial, a witness speaking to a juror is a very serious breach of courtroom rules and could result in a appeal being filed. Additionally, the witness continued speaking when the judge was attempting to inform him of the rules which is terribly rude.
@@robp.7769 In all fairness, the judge had just raised her voice and snapped at him to only face the jury" and said something about 'the jury box being able to see and hear you being all that matters'. I can see how he was confused by that. I did not think he came across as anything other than a good, reliable witness trying to be as thorough and detailed as possible?
She can’t control her duck lips sometimes.
The judge has a job to do and make sure that everyone is safe and sticks to the rules of the court. Am sure there are no hard feelings it just has to be done. Most people that have taken the stand do not know what to do and are like fish out of water. The judge has to keep things moving along and make sure he did not go off track which he was doing.
@@exoticprairie The fact that he's hard of hearing is precisely why she raised her voice. Further, we aren't discussing turning and saying something under questioning. There was no question pending, he was not sitting on the stand, and what he was doing could have been construed as addressing a juror directly. Those things cannot happen and if they do the entire case can be appealed and all the months of work go out the window. The judge was trying to protect the court room and the case. Frankly, with the manner that the witness spoke over her, some judges would have been far more harsh.
The judge is rude and the lawyer asked him to do something embarrassing. I feel bad for him.
He seems self-assured enough not to feel embarrassed by it.
I didn't find it embarrassing.

he seems like the neighbor that would live in my neighborhood. and they aren't creepy at all.
I don't find him "creepy" though he is a bit odd. I find his comportment charming.
I wouldn’t say he’s the perfect neighbor if you’re someone who is up to “no good”. Lol If you were up to no good, he’d actually be the worst neighbor in that sense. You wouldn’t want a neighbor who notices everything that goes on at your house and everyone else’s house. This judge seems overwhelmed regularly through this trial. She needs to work on her delivery. He's a witness, not an expert, so how the heck is he supposed to know what you expect?! It's ridiculous and, honestly, I'm embarrassed for her.
Yes I agree with you!

The whole running demonstration was very weird. Imo.
She’s in over her head. Power hungry. She’s trying to make a name for herself. She needs to go back to law school. How did she even get this case..?
I agree. She is horrible. She sounds and often acts unprofessionally.
This man was an extremely good witness. He tells us the story in a way we can actually visualize what happened unlike some witnesses that are told what to say and how to act up there. People aren't used to it because he's for starters an older man, probably not used to being on a stand so this might be his way of talking to people (telling stories) because he's older. I think he's been the best witness so far. People wanted to know what Nic was like, well he gave to us in detail. The lawyer is the one who asked him to demonstrate running and the judge then gets nasty to the old man unbelievable poor old guy is trying to do what he's asked. Imagine that was one of our grandparents or parent up there that the lawyer did this too
Kidding me? This guy is the best ever! His running demo was probably 100% spot on for what Nick Cruz was doing that day
his demonstration helped, i was picturing something totally different lol but fr
Yeah, the judge was unprofessional and showed attitude problems. The guy was trying to do what's right and she treated him with no respect at all.

They did the same crap with a different witness also. This one was a woman and when she stood up after the lawyer asked her to demonstrate the judge flipped out. The guards came i fast and tightened their circle around the judge.
Honestly props for him for agreeing to do a demonstration, he didn’t have to embarrass himself and become a meme but he genuinely was trying to be helpful as funny as it was. I bursted out in laughter, it being a death penalty trial you know the pressure is real in that court room I’m sure they were all biting their tongues during that.
You become an age when being embarrassed doesn't apply anymore
Yeah and those court officers got prepared for him.
That's the thing, this guy wasn't embarrassed at all and he would have kept going! He was happy to do the demonstration! Ha ha so funny like another person said he's that kind of old guy who just doesn't care all he wants to make sure of is that you understand exactly what he means! Ha ha 😂 this was greatly entertaining!
Haha what’s going on in this town where all these CHARACTERS ARE COMING FROM…….. Come on Judge ! Give the elderly neighbor a break! SMH. No sense in being so rude . 🙄
Calling him Sir and saying Thank you.. So rude.. She never demeaned him but she does have to control the court. There are procedures. He can't speak to the Jury. If he does it can lead to alot of other issues that delay the proceedings. It could potentially even lead to the removal of a Jury member. He also can't start a demonstration wherever he wants. Just because he's old doesn't mean he can't wait for instruction. I'm sure he's a sweet old guy that only wanted to tell a story the best way he could to help but he repeatedly walked right up to the line of what could cause problems for the entire hearing. Even answering a question he was asked but answering it with a long descriptive version that includes irrelevant information or varies from the answer he gave in his Deposition is potentially a big problem. I'm sure he's great telling stories by a campfire but he is exactly the type of witness Judges and Attorneys hate. He'll either give amazing testimony that wins a case or he'll cause a mistrial. This is a great defense witness. He tells a story well, sounds credible. Interesting testimony. Defense definitely won some points with him.
What the hell did I just watch? And what the hell bearing does it have on this case?
Omg…I was thinking the same thing. Those poor families…having to listen to this. Do you wonder why the boys didn’t want to talk to him when they lived across the street from him. I would have ran as fast as I could past his house in order to get into my house if I was a kid. Being sociable to Linda….he was being nosey. This witness needs a psych consult….or maybe all the motorcycle fumes has damaged his brain . So by now we all know that since a young age Nichols had problems. He was bullied since a young age not only by his peers but also by adults. The system failed him…including his adopted mother. Was he ever under psychiatric care? 🤷♀️
@@lauriemcdarby5368 I think his writing and drawings while in prison are him trying to use reverse psychology on the jury. he wants life in prison. So, if he makes it out like he wants death, they might give him life just because that goes against what he wants. idk
In all honesty that run was creepy af. This man is really great at telling detailed information so I know he got the run to detail. If that’s so, that was probably very creepy to witness.
I actually hate how demeaning the judge was to that first witness. Like wait to make someone feel like crap.
The judges face is hilarious. She's like what in the world did I just allow to happen in this court room
Yeah! The expression she had after that humorous demonstration was priceless! If I were her, I would of scolded that attorney outside of court for asking the witness to show everyone. 🤣
Her lack of credential and experience and a powerful daddy put her in the courtroom. Absolutely terrible, unprofessional, and immature judge. I am not one to comment on makeup, but hers was WAY too flashy for such a somber and serious occasion. Quite literally a clown. Then, refraining from judging her based on her presentation as that's not fair of me, it actually turned out the be an accurate red flag and I was not surprised to see her absolutely fumble the case in four separate occasions.. This has been an absolute travesty on her part.
This court case was a circus the witness running around the court room was not needed. So ridiculous
The look on the judges face at the end is priceless 🤣
Ya! She's RUDE
@SkyNet General she is also beautiful.
Ya like “ did this just happen? no way “ “ is this on TV ? “
@@petedavidson6931 she's way over her capabilities
@@callumkent7155 I bet she's the whips and chains type in the bedroom...
i love the way he tells his story, i could listen to him all day
I have never seen a judge being so rude to a witness! They all thank the witness for their services and this lady just talks to them like she’s doing them a favor! If she doesn’t have the patience maybe she shouldn’t be a judge…
And you are sure you could do better?
@@willworkforyarn4893 not sure. I’m not a judge🤷🏻♀️but…I assume that being a little nicer to ppl that are there as witness is part of her job.
Dude most judges are rude to witnesses and lawyers. Idk why, but most of them are.
How many trials have you watched?
Actually I had a worse judge ones. I even had to call her the devil's wife. Lol
The prosecution lawyer literally does a face palm behind in the background when defense lawyer asks if he can demonstrate. 🤦🏼♀️😬
He was actually hiding a laugh.
i feel sorry for this witness because it looks like he suffered mentally and financially from being Cruz neighbor. the judge needs to calm the thing down or leave her position as a judge bc she's really nit fit for this case. She can be judge Judy.
Financially how? He rented a guest house. He doesn't own anything that lost value.
This man had mental problems long before this incident.
He's very... he's very.... now this falls into the second period of my observations of Nicky. Compelling, just very compelling. lol
Financially??
@@ryancampbell1847 yes he said Cruz broke his windows many times and damaged his home throughout the years of being Cruz neighbor.
That attorney made him start running for his own entertainment and I'd like to thank him for it.
The lawyer in the back snickering when the witness was asked to demonstrate Nick running like a toddler with no coordination. 😂
I can't believe all the comments about this man. Why is everyone so judgemental?? I think he's sweet. As an introvert, he would probably talk too much for me but there are sooooo many people that hang out working in their yards or on their cars etc. Maybe he's a people watcher. Look at all the old people that like to just sit on their porch. I got one think he would be a great neighbor. I'd be like "Hey, I'm going out of town, can you just keep your eye out?!" 🤣
No. He is off. That is clear.
Imagine how he feels having lived across the street from a killer!!!
@@Estimator00 I think he relishes it, was obviously a big part of his life
@@willowsmom5757 No, you're just insecure - and desperate to attack someone else for no reason.
You need to clean up your life.
I dont think it's being "judgmental". At least for me, he comes off as if he's some big key witness and is trying to make his roll in the this case seem relevant, when it's not.
This is a man who LOVES to hear his own voice.
Yes. Not credible
The judge in this trial is very off-putting and rude.
She thinks she’s the sh&$
Bc she’s a smoke show
@@TrickyBoa not really. To each their own.
This judge sounds incompetent and unsure of herself. Lawyers had to tell her there's a difference between certain charges. She is also condescending, it's a way of trying to cover up for insecurities. A better, more knowledgeable judge should have been chosen for this case. She's the judge who dealt with the lady who stated she couldn't do jury duty because she had to be with her sugar daddy.
@@sstacyss 🤷♂️
What was the point of even having him “demonstrate “ the running? He was doing a good job describing things and I think we all could get a mental picture of what he looked like running! That was the bizarre thing! That lawyer had no reason to put him in an uncomfortable situation like that! Plus the judge., wow! I understand she has to keep the courtroom under control but she could have just said no to the lawyer. She is very rude! I felt sorry for this witness! Very odd!
I agree, the way he described it is the exact same way he demonstrated it and I could picture it even before the demonstration. I'm not sure what the point was but kudos to the old man for doing what he was asked.
Every time she tells the defense "no" they throw tantrums! I believe she's probably exhausted!!
@@willworkforyarn4893 very true!
"Thank you sir for that cringy display"
It was entertaining
The judge looked relatively surprised. I kinda think she regretted allowing this.
He was a great character witness I’m glad that he testified he did a nice job.
Did anyone notice the lawyer in the background with the blue tie losing it, he was trying so hard not to laugh, as soon as the one talking suggests it he starts smiling. Oh my God so inappropriate but hilarious, like trying not to laugh in church
I absolutely loved this witness. Setting and painting and walking you thru events. That’s why it was kind of a shame that the court/attorney kept seemingly stifling him when he was totally lost in memory just speaking exactly how he remembers.. That should be valued in the courtroom.
12:05 That guy on the right with glasses is trying so hard not to laugh already lmao.
This witness is such an original
I think having him demonstrate was a little unescessary. He articulated it very well.
LOL the way the judge cuts him off from running. Priceless.
Imagine telling the parents 5 years ago that instead of watching their children grow up, they’d be watching this in a courtroom, life sure does change fast
Hahahahaha OMG. That's hilarious bro. Fireside chat of the past inside a courtroom.
You say this like it's a light-hearted amusing thought. What a contribution you made here.
@@MrGriff305 Not a single part of my comment made it seem ‘amusing’. Simply putting the concept into perspective to show how precious life is and how quickly things can change for the better and worse.
@@yourinator774 yes, life suuure does change. How amusing. Just imagine.
Agreed, there isn’t anything funny about this but once again since the defence started their opening speech, the families probably can’t believe they are actually having to listen to this as if it in any way mitigates what he did to their children. The only other certainty I think this penalty phase may have brought us is that there will be lawsuits again the school district and state if there isn’t already , judging by what what the defence attorney said about the failures to act which may well have prevented this mass murder in the first place. It is just desperately sad.
What a weird old man…
Amen
He was told to do it how is he weird lol
@@stopdropandgame9506 well, the fact that he sat around watching neighborhood kids like a creeper is enough for me. We had one of those in our neighborhood none of the neighborhood kids were even allowed to walk by the house without an adult present, creepy AF

Shame on the snobs in the audience who were secretly laughing at this gentleman as he demonstrated the exact actions and reckless emotions Nic Cruz displays. The judge talked down to him -um I really thought differently of her before she scolded and overreacted to this man who is only human for goodness sake!
"Snobs in the audience" which ones? Nobody was laughing.
The older gentleman had been told early on that he had a talent for acting and speaking. He wanted to share his talent & practiced hour after hour. He scheduled many auditions, but no one seemed interested in listening. With great sadness, he let go of his dreams of entertaining people & began working at a grocery store. His wife and kids grew weary of his stories, told over and over until they knew every word & gesture, rolling their eyes when he wasn't looking. They were busy and didn't give him the attention he craved.
Then, IT happened.
Suddenly reporters were asking for interviews, cameras were all around and EVERYONE listened with baited breath as he described The Kids. As days, weeks and years went by he perfected the story of The Kids.
When I hear this Judge speak I realize how good the Judge was in Johnny Depp trial.
It’s a shame this guy didn’t get any help when he was clearly calling out for it. People don’t naturally enjoy the sight of “BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD” and murder. He committed the act but the system failed him from the time he was born.
The system did not fail him...and he had a wonderful mother who lived in hell. The system failed the 17 victims and an entire school that was terrorized.
The public defenders in this case, especially the blonde lady presented a strong case for life without parole over the death penalty. I couldn't agree with you more.
@@Estimator00 your really gonna sit there and say that the system did nothing wrong? Cruz clearly showed he was a threat to the other students, he gave off many warning signs, and what did mental health services do? What did the Law enforcement do? What did the School do? Very little because none of them wanted to take full responsibility of him and instead pushed him around different support services when he clearly gave off warning signs.
@@brandonayala4605 Guess you missed the part where I said the system didn't fail the monster, the system failed the kids that were murdered and terrorized. A teacher even said when he was kicked out of Parkland school...he would come back and shoot um up. It is a travesty that the monster wasn't institutionalized long before he made good on his plan. He made countless threats!!!! I feel sorry for Linda Cruz...she lived in hell with these two kids.
💯 The system is woefully unprepared for adolescents with extreme "anti-social" personalities. It is too easy to say the parents, law enforcement, mental health agencies and schools didn't try. This killer was a real outlier; we need another level of services for these types. Blame won't prevent the next horrific incident. These outliers can also take their problems out on themselves by committing suicide. They KNOW they are not normal. Being born from a drug/alcohol addicted mother is already a huge risk factor. As a society, we failed. I pray the families of the victims find patience in dealing with this life long tragedy.
The witness didn't act bizarre but the lawyer asking for him to demonstrate his walk was weird.
Judge Elizabeth was so rude this day! She needs a break for a couple days. Gets frustrated to easily. This man describe everything so well. Smh!
I despise this judge she’s insanely rude and unprofessional
I personally think, She’s young n the job title got to her head 🤔
@@chasingthejackpots8444 I agree ☝️

She's not being rude, she literally has to cut him off and tell him not to do certain things in order to abide by the court's rules. If she didn't do her job, the lawyers could declare a mistrial and cause real problems.
I don’t know what your definition of professional is but it’s her job to guide the testimony and conduct of the witnesses.
the judges face at the end is priceless lol
Yes! 🤣🤣🤣
This poor guy is up for anything… the defense should be ashamed of themselves
Why is the judge so rude? "DO NOT TALK TO THE JURORS! okay do that silly run... THATS SUFFICIENT SIT DOWN!" That old man has been nothing but cooperative and reasonable.
