  • Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz faces a possible death sentence for killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14, 2018. Keri Yon, who was Cruz's 8th grade school teacher, testified about his behavior and her evaluations of Cruz. Yon wrote in one assessment that she feared Cruz was a danger to other students and does not understand the difference between violent video games and reality and shows constant aggressive behavior.

This is disgusting as to how much abuse a teacher must take before ANYONE WILL HELP! As a personal example, I had a stalker who tried terrorizing me for months almost nightly. Vandalized my property, left fake blood on my door, said crude violent things, etc. Police told me to sleep with a knife under my pillow as there was no 'proof' he was actually committing a crime until he fulfilled his promises of harming me physically. There are no resources as it wasn't a domestic violent situation so I was left protecting myself against a psycho who gave me death threats, and attempted homicide. But because he didn't actually 'touch' me....police couldn't/wouldn't do anything. EDIT: I did get his threats on video though so he's fkd if he comes near me again.
Basically, if he/they/people don't TOUCH/ASSAULT/HARM you PHYSICALLY....authorities/police won't charge that person or take action. IF it's "ONLY" verbal, gross indecent even s*xual threats, victims like these teachers (and many women) are on THEIR OWN.

The more he was denied or wasn't getting attention his antics, rude and disheartening off-putting behaviors got worse.
It was Valentine's day when he decided to act out on his heinous murders. He was texting his friend asking about a girl, the friend said he would try to hook it up and NC wasn't happy. He wanted concrete word that that girl or another would be for sure coming to hang out. The next thing is a phone call and afterwards that friend was texting repeatedly reassuring NC that the girl would for sure show up and be there and not to do what he believed NC was about to do NC texted back saying it was too late. Remember NC planned this for a long time, researched and even listened to music while gunning innocent people down. He was on different social media talking about his plans and disturbing opinions. Giving an 8th grader incentives to behave well...
Does that mean he was great before 8th grade, or he became more unmanageable the older he got? I think, if others wrote anything similar to this prior to 8th grade, what's the point of assessments if they are not responded to?
I think it is beyond ludicrous that other children are made to endure unexceptable behavior each day. But it's just as unexceptable to believe in "no child left behind" and then just leave him behind by allowing him to advance with others when he clearly needed serious intervention.
Yet, what is the answer ? Instability is rampant and this is going to be an outcome. It was inexcusable behavior passed off all along , with very costly consequences.

As a teacher, I know the pressure she must have felt from admin not to make waves or push for getting more serious help for Nikolas. It is criminal that any teacher should have to work so hard in order to protect the other students and herself, especially when everyone else knows full well that this one student is so damaged that he is a danger to others. I hate to say it, but I think there are many other NC's out there in our schools and they are being handled in exactly the same way. This poor teacher had to endure this kid and nothing was done.

Teachers always report these issues, because we care. However, we are ignored most of the time. The paperwork to get these kids help takes at least 18 weeks, and it is soooo extensive that many teachers don't fill it out, because it takes hours to complete and requires teachers to do it at home, rather than working hours. I, myself, have not filled our said paperwork and have just tried to manage behaviors in class, unless the kid is way over my management skills. The teachers should just be believed, rather than having to fill out such extensive paperwork. Our qualifications are enough, yet many don't think so. Therefore, many kids don't get the help they need, and teachers are never surprised when we see the name of a certain student on the evening news.

I’m 30 and I don’t remember any classmates that had these sorts of issues (though I understand just because I wasn’t aware of it doesn’t mean it didn’t exist) so I guess I’m just wondering, has this always been a problem or is there something about the last few decades? Do developed countries have this many kids struggling with these issues or is it an American phenomenon (like so many other negative things only we have to deal with)? I also don’t only mean kids who murder people, I accept that this kid’s issues are most likely far different than your average kid who struggles with things. It just seems like so many kids now are suffering from things I don’t remember existing even 15 years ago, at least in such large numbers. I was only let into public school, one grade out of 4, after 1st & K. 3rd, 7th, &11th. School admin hated me so much, I graduated anyways, unofficially, and early. They had me just quit coming in, during 11th, and had me come in after school, 1hr daily, to take my finals, being given a pass on anything not covered in my time there. However, diploma wasn't sent out, until when I would have graduated normally. What began all this? I drew a picture of the Bigfoot truck, driving over the buses by the school. That led to all sorts of interrogtions, minor torture, and being labeled everything in the book, and pretty much no chance in the school system. However, I made different choices, and refused to give up and lose. I manage a factory today. I was extremely angry back then, but didn't want my detractors to be right, and eventually showed them. :)
