Especially in someone with mental problems who has distorted thinking. I agree, and believe that when Nicks mom died , he felt so abandoned and alone, that he turned to hatred, instead of sadness. There was no one on his side anymore. And he just wanted to make someone responsible and take notice of the state of his life, that he couldn't handle without his mother, the only person who truly loved him, and stood up for him.

There seems to have been a large degree of involvement during his formative years, but did this follow through to his late teens? He was a ticking time bomb, set to explode when his mother died.

Absolutely!! - & I feel like there should definitely be an investigation on so. (Maybe not criminal charges, but an investigation to study everything in total to see if they could of done anything to change how they went about everything.) As maybe this all would/could of been prevented. Obviously parole for criminals is a thing - so kids who show signs of psychological issues like so should be monitored/checked on from time to time! Nikolas Cruz shouldn’t be given a hall pass for doing what he did just because he had a messed up childhood. Fortunately, I don’t think anyone is giving him a hall pass as his two fates are either death or life in prison without parole. Either way, he’s paying for his actions. As he should.
That all said, it’s also clear that he had a lot of issues that were outside of his control and a lot of people ultimately let him down. He was doomed from the start, so in that vein I do feel bad for him and I don’t want to judge.
So yes, while he should be held accountable for what he did, those who let him slip through the cracks and not take his warning signs more seriously should also be held accountable. This is a kid who NEVER should have been allowed to purchase a firearm. Smh 🤦‍♂️

What the court is not addressing that there is an entire industry in South Florida Adoption agencies that pay women with unplanned/unwanted pregnancies and severe substance abuse issues, usually homeless. They help the mother get Medicaid for prenatal care in exchange for housing and X amount of $ per month for living expenses, food, hygiene etc. The pregnant women than receive a large amount of money, usually in a lump sum after the baby is born & adoption is complete. There are literally women that are abusing drugs that actually use this system as a means of paying for their lifestyle. I personally know a mother & father, junkies, that find the cheapest place to live during pregnancy so they had more money for their recreational habits monthly. Once she gives birth the have unprotected sex asap until she’s pregnant again and they sign up all over again and make a new contact with another family. It’s absolutely insane.

She didn’t even tell his teachers that he was adopted until she felt she had to; those aren’t the actions of someone who is looking for help and support. She tried to hide her child’s issues to save her own reputation as a mother, and it ended up creating a monster.

How this psychiatrist thinks a school would do a neuropsych evaluation is ridiculous, along with the fact that she didn’t know he was born from a mother who did drugs/alcohol during her pregnancy. That’s BASIC intake information that would direct course of treatment. ALSO-home based behavioral services are voluntary so adopted mom decided to terminate, then decided to do what she wanted with the Risperdal, which by the way, is an antipsychotic medication. I’m sorry, but in this state, that would be neglect of Nik’s mental and behavioral health needs. Also, the history of constantly trying to address the behavioral symptoms with ADHD medication is infuriating. The field of psychiatry for children is often a subjective crapshoot that relies on parental opinion, not real data. Did this psychiatrist ever speak directly with a school professional to see how the meds were working in conjunction with the adopted mom? Systemic failure.

We aren’t planning school shootings! He chased kids down the hallways, he shot into classroom windows, and he shot people at point range. After the shooting, he blended with the crowd of kids and walked out of that school. He went to McDonalds and chatted with the brother of one of his victims. When he was caught, he was pretending to see demons because he wanted to blame someone else for his actions. The “system’” failure didn’t help him to premeditate the murder of 17 people!

This should be very concerning for any Parent of children with these types of challenges. This idiot "doctor" only saw him for 15-30 min sessions, and did nothing but change his medications every time she laid eyes on him!
I seriously question the safety of putting the mind and body through such a whiplash roller coaster ride of chemicals. Especially a young, developing mind! If you are a Psychiatrist, and your preferred method for treating mental or developmental challenges is to try and medicate symptoms away... you need to be in a different line of work.

She also said that she thought the medication he was on was working because his mother reported that his behavior improved after *a couple days* on it; risperidone absolutely does start having noticeable effects after just a couple days in someone’s system. It takes several weeks to become fully effective, after just a few days there would have been zero change in his behavior. It’s literally impossible.
It is absolutely jaw-dropping to find out that someone this incompetent was a practicing child psychiatrist for so long.

I have worked in the behavioral health field many years, and worked with many psychiatrists, and this is how they work. They constantly change medications until the parents report that a specific cocktail works. They only see the children for about 30 min max and don’t have a follow up apt until the next refill. Unfortunately this is how the system is set up, it is just a guessing game until you find something that helps, and once it no longer does they increase the dosage.

    • @samieD22
      @samieD22 2 года назад +4

That’s what the psychiatrist is for though! If the parent wants regular CBT then the child goes to a psychologist who usually can’t prescribe medications. And usually psychiatrists do try different medications before the right combination works for the parent. I’ve always been too scared to be on drugs, so I never went.

I have worked in the behavioral health system for about 10 years and unfortunately there isn’t a lot that can be done. There aren’t many options after parents try all the services available to them and if they don’t help the child there isn’t much to do after that. A better system needs to be put in place to help children that are struggling because what is in place leaves providers and parents without many options.

I have interviewed many violent offenders in my role as a criminologist and researcher. Many of these offenders were willing to speak to me candidly, and reported how often they were able to "con" those in the psychiatric field and that interfacing with me was a refreshing "reality" check. By the way, many of these offenders had tortured animals in their youth, as did the offender. Do you recall how many times the latter purported to love animals and wanted a dog? By the way, I was a teacher for 10 years prior to shifting my career to criminology. This shift was not predicated in a vacuum. I will say no more as this trial is ongoing.

NC mom was the person giving all the info to the psychiatrist. His mom mentioned the adoption but omitted the drug use aka "polluted womb" We heard testimony from his bio mom's friend and a daughter about bio mom's alleged drug, alcohol and nicotine use. Not one medical record or professional was brought forward confirming any of that information. (ie as a baby he went through withdrawal, etc etc) Remember he was adopted out as a newborn....
Seems NC was very spoiled. When he didn't get his way he threw tantrums. Episodes always occurred after he didn't get his way. They didn't happen out of nowhere. He hit someone with his lunchbox. He took apart a mailbox and threw it in the street. He was upset about not being able to get a spider man video game. He was fighting with his brother. *When he didn't get what he wanted and as he grew older he escalated his responses* What he really needed was a good old fashioned spankin from get...
NC did not commit this horrendous crime on impulse or spur of the moment, pulling it out of thin air. He calculated and planned this attack for a long time. He was planning this grotesque crime before his mom passed? He watched videos. Researched his crime ahead of time. Listened to music as he coldly went room to room, floor to floor hunting his victims. "Double tap" remember that? He even tried to "blend in" with students who had already passed, or injured, running, crying, screaming and frightened for their lives. Then stopped and got an icee. Casually sat next to another student at the local McDonald's..
He was attempting to get a date/meet up for Valentine's day. His friend said he would ask the girl(s) over. When NC started to get upset his friend desperately attempted to assure NC that the girl he was asking about would show up later..*He didn't get his way*
I watched the parents. The looks of emptiness, sorrow and heartbreak. Some of his victims were shot multiple times. The one young man 13 times. How despicable, cold, and horrific...

He began torturing and killing animals at the age of 3 - 4. That was the time he should have gotten full brain scans and testing for dead spots in his brain. It shows that, at the age of 3, he had a dead spot in the part of his brain where empathy should be.
In contrast, I took my son to a movie when he was age 3 that had a scene where they were shearing sheep (which is not painful nor harmful to the sheep). My son began sobbing loudly in sympathy with the sheep. So I had to take him to a barber for a haircut to show him that it didn't hurt the sheep to get their wool cut. After that (but he did cry in the barber chair until the haircut was over with) he was a happy kid. Clearly, my son has empathy.
Sadly for tortured animals and the 17 youth who lost their lives, Nikolas Cruz has no empathy.

We are hearing testimony of ppl that knew of problems, so that the jury can see he was failed as a youth, therefore shouldn’t get the death penalty…Because there really is no other defense. But this world is full of people who have been fiailed by school systems etc. They don’t go out and murder people. They don’t shoot up the whole school killing 17 or more wounding others.
I was beaten by my mother. The schools knew it. Neighbors knew it. No one did anything. But I don’t have anger because of it. I don’t hate because of it…I worked through the awful things she said to me most of my life. And I only felt free of her negativity after she died a few years ago… The defense has to have some form of angle to defend this man. But the bottom line is he made choices to do the things that he did. He made the choice to take that route..And even still all these people that failed him, they are just human beings. Human beings that make mistakes.

Every single comment, interpretation of test results, description of developmental delays, diagnosis shared, program implementations, I’ve heard it all I’ve seen it all. I’ve done it all over the course of 30 years of special education intervention and collaboration with other professionals in a public school setting. In 30 years, to the best of my knowledge, not one of my students ever became a mass murderer as a result of horrific upbringings, FAS, learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, social emotional challenges, intellectual disabilities, autism, deafness, blindness, physical handicaps, not to my knowledge has any of my former students become a mass murderer as a result of any academic, social emotional, physical, environmental, psychological challenges. This defense is the lamest bunch of BS I have ever heard…. they literally have no background in education, absolutely no background in behavioral intervention, reaching for short straws trying to pin this on his in utero lack of care, the indisputable disadvantages of his upbringing. The public schools will provide adequate interventions for students in any and every area that has been identified that an IEP is written for however it is up to the family of the child to seek further support outside of the school setting for themselves for their children for their families it is not a one size fits all program there’s a whole lot of truth to it takes a village to raise a child

It’s called mitigating circumstances that aren’t trying to prove that is he crazy, like not guilty by reason of insanity. The are just trying to show that given his long history with mental health issues and being born addicted to drugs which likely effected his brain development that he should just be given life not the electric chair.

    • @mealsome1571

Tragically the reason why they are going so far back is because the Defence and Prosecution both have jobs to do, even if it's just a show trial at this stage, it's not about the reasoning why he did or didn't (personally I think they should just shoot him twice, hang him, then shoot him again for safety, then bury him facedown so he knows which way to crawl).
But the Justice process is a process, depressingly, everyone is entitled to it, for better or worse, I'm sure y'all have people you feel got judged unfairly as if it were a show trial, but they got the process, same thing with this malaka, he get's the same right to a show trial.
