Cruz, 23, faces a possible execution for killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018.

    Also with the ‘faking symptoms’ - I watched the interrogation as soon as it was posted after the crime… i watched the whole 3 hours. it was very clear this was not a ‘psychotic break/episode’ & he did not have any cluster c personality disorder symptoms… he didn’t show true GENUINE signs of psychosis or schizophrenia but he was TRYING to act/show what he thought these would be in order to manipulate the detectives & the system. i recommend watching if the case interests you or if you want to see some very poor attempts at ‘faking’ psychotic symptoms.. a lot of the common devil/demon talk & false auditor & sensory hallucinations. he was able to switch everything on & off to his benefit.

      School killings can get worse: please read the book,
      "Terror at Beslan". 180+ CHILDREN were killed at a school in Europe at ONE school!
      What happened there could happen anywhere.
      The author said if we employed 2-4 military veterans (per location) to patrol our schools, it would be a valuable safety measure for our children.
      --- as an aside, it would also be honorable employment for our veterans.

    As a european psychologist and psychotherapist, who works with teenagers at hospital, I disagree with this diagnosis. I think they underdiagnozed Nikolas. I've seen many borderline people (also men) and they don't behave as Cruz does. They often don't kill, they use this threat or hurting themselves as manipulation to not being left alone. They are impulsive, but not in the way that they will kill many people. They're very focused on 1 person with who they'll have love-hate relationship, where they love person, but at the same time hate them (like small child do), because of the dependance they feel. So it's not as simple as one time I like you, and other I don't. It's totally mixed and stirred. They are not agressive in a way as sociopaths do (because they feel tension relieved because of that), but they're more like a grown-up vulnerable child, who behaves emotionally, manipulating just to avoid being alone. They don't know who they are, because they haven't had opportunity to establish themselves in eyes of others. So they are still in a position of small child, who seeks for someone to keep them safe. It reminds me of Melanie Klein's theory about good and bad object - child hates its mother for being someone who it needs, but also takes great pleasure from interacting with her or her body. It's similar with BPD people. They fear of being "eaten" or "swallowed" by other person, so they pull and push them over and over again, to maintain status quo. Nikolas clinged to his mother, because he was unstable, alone, weird, assaulted, laughed at, etc., but he was also rude or cruel to her. He wanted someone else to love him, because he was always lonely and unaccepted, because he was the weird one. That is very common in autistic people (especially males). He was probably bullied at school, because he was this one weirdo that everyone laughs at. And because of his inabilities and lacking social skills, he hadn't known what to do, so he became agressive, because of his destroyed and undeveloped ego, which couldn't control him and rule over his impulses. Also it may be due to ADHD and - maybe - autism. People with ADHD are also often aggresive and impulsive, due to lack of internal control over impulses. Adding to that development issues, social inabilities and low cognitive functioning, we may have a person who seems borderline, but it's not BPD, but rather borderline state of mind, which in psychoanalysis means distorted psychic aparatus, close to psychotic position, where person is completely detached from reality.
    Also diagnosing someone with borderline, because he searched for "who am I?" in Google is a joke to me. Many teenegers do that and they don't have personality disorders. It takes much more to that. From what I learned from this trial about Cruz, I would rather say he has some sort of deep childhood trauma, disorted attachment scheme, maybe cognitive difficulties and considering his prenatal issues with his biological background, I'd rather consider some development issues (such as ADHD, autism spectrum) or other more biological issues, not personality disorder. I think he really had problems with realizing reality and fiction. For me it's much more complex, distorted psychic than BPD.

    • @kwassagirl5639
      @kwassagirl5639 Год назад +1

      Indeed I agree..... childhood traumas abounded in Nikolas Cruz's early life! Repeated abandonment and attachment issues throughout! Abandoned by his biological mother; and his adoptive mother and her brother had themselves been abandoned by their biological mother, which would leave deep emotional 'attachment' scars on them...... Then, at aged 5 (or 6) it was Nikolas who found his adoptive father suddenly dead at 62 in his Study.......another 'abandonment' trauma for such a young child!

I refuse to sleep under the same roof as her now, but no one in my family was kinder to me in early childhood than she was.
    BPD can be a *very serious* and dangerous personality disorder in some people, it just depends on how severe their presentation is (and past traumas are). BPD is a spectrum disorder, so you get everything from emo musicians all the way up to Jeffrey Dahmer and this guy.
    The truly frightening thing is they come across as weak and vulnerable, and sometimes they talk baby talk, so you feel like you want to protect them...but you need protection FROM them because W O W can they ever turn on you with a fury like you never imagined was possible.

    I’m a professional in the field. What teen male doesn’t do everything Cruz did romantically as a teen? I can’t think of a guy who hasn’t done this, calling the girl a C word and B word. Becoming obsessed, suicidal, jealous, violent in many cases. In addition, Cruz can’t put his process together towards functionality in healthy ways and has not done so throughout his life and with good reasons. To put it another way, there was no reason for him to be able to do otherwise. Not everyone will resort to violence including the most horrific wanton violence. It requires an antisocial personality (a willingness to annihilate in an attempt to feel better about one’s self) which is exactly what this doctor says he found. There are many antisocial children and adults in society and in my opinion, this is a prerequisite for extreme acts against others. They are not born as such but can experience violence and abuse, including substances and medications, as early as in utero that can start them on the path. If there are no interventions, they continue and become willing and able to use violence as a tool and as a weapon as their coping style and as their way of life. I worked specifically with this group, mostly male, prior to the age of 12. To shift these kids, it requires intensive therapy at an early age. This never happened with Cruz as a child (or as an adult). This is a failure of the adults, including caretakers, parents, and professionals. This rationale and these facts are not the primary way the jury will decide on life vs death. In fact, everyone on this jury was vetted as to any possible bias to include a bias against the death penalty. As far as what will be determined by the jury, it doesn’t matter if he is rehabilitable or that his violence was intentional or even that he basically had no chance to find his way in the world without rage and violently acting out rage. It also doesn’t matter if jurors think he is manipulating them. What matters is what the jurors think about the death penalty. No matter what they said as to being able to decide on death vs life without bias, it will come down to whether they think that death is the final resolution to his life. And b/c it only takes 1 juror saying “no”, it is almost completely likely he will get life. Regardless of what any of us think should be the final resolution, it’s this jury that will decide. And if it is death, as unlikely as that would be, there will be years of appeals as we all know, even if Cruz determines he wants death, again unlikely. The jury’s decision is the reason this trial is worth paying attention to. It informs us about ourselves in so many ways, particularly that we are almost completely lame when it comes to intervention, and this is true in this case. We can do better and we must do better. ~Todd

It is also interesting that his brother had the same mother, grew up in the home as NC and hasn't committed mass murder. We want to rehabilitate everyone, but is it possible that there is just pure evil that can't be fixed.

    • @ToddDouglasFox
      @ToddDouglasFox Год назад +1

      @@aick56 not about fixing evil. His brother was not born on substances btw. Read up on his history. There is a detachment from connection that occurs when the mother is using/drinking. Yes, many of these young boys are not able to connect on a level of vulnerability and caring. They don’t feel it even when others share it. So they don’t recognize goodness between themselves and others. Most of us do feel some connection with others or certain people. When it is not felt, there is no way to know something is missing. It’s not because they are evil that they don’t feel the glue that holds many people together. This is why there must be intervention. These therapies are effective and have been around for some time. You’ll find in the so called healing arts that most of it is lame. I do not respect my profession for this reason. Labeling people does nothing. Behavior modification does nothing. Medicating people almost always makes it worse. Pretending you’re helping and blaming the client is immoral. Choosing a healing profession but not effective solutions is a crime. We can do better.

    People can also be diagnosed as 'malingering' when they are not 'malingering'.
    Some of the tests they administer can be confusing, not very clear, and the 'client' does not know how to answer some or many of the questions but feel that they must fill out something to complete the forms..... so they fill out what that they think is perhaps accurate but are not sure if they are or not. Verbal help is not necessarily offered.
    Then they get diagnosed with malingering (faking it) when they in fact were trying their best to answer things that are not all that clear in the way they are put.
    Not saying this is the case here but sometimes it is NOT that the person is trying to fake something but it is the way the forms or tests themselves are laid out along with no ability to ask questions to further clarify.

    This expert claims that Nikolas didn't or at least he didn't think that Nikolas met the criteria for paranoid stressful ideation. However, Nikolas claiming that marijuana made his mental symptoms worse could indicate extensive paranoia, because when your extremely insecure or even paranoid about.. such as the reprecussion of a consequence that occurred in the past or potentially upcoming, the influence of THC can make such mental anguish even worse. There was an improper choice of words from this expert in claiming that he "certainly felt" that Nikolas was malingering.. being that you can't feel absolutely certain about something bssed on a feeling, as that itself is only an indication of some sort, a hunch, a gut feeling, etc. It also seemingly looks more credible when a speaker doesn't ask themselves a question before answering it themself as it puts them more on the level of the audience, not assuming off hand that the audience wouldn't be capable of concluding what he did. And it also would've made a bigger impact if this expert would've jumped right into explaining why he felt Nikolas was malingering (either immediately after making such a claim or right after that... appears to be a more passionate statement) rather than carry on outside of such an explanation, before the prosecution eventaully exclusively asked him why in so many words.

    • @ryanjansen8785
      @ryanjansen8785 Год назад

      Actually... this expert didn't just bluntly say that he "felt" that Nick was malingering... my mistake. Cut short... he said that there were certainly times when he felt Nick was reporting A-typical symptoms of which weren't associated with his history... However, if this expert didn't feel confident enough to just bluntly say that Nick's claims WERE A-typical (defiantly fact-based from a practical standpoint) and not supported by evidence, then he still technically can't use the term "felt" on a basis of certainty. Although... now this of course sounds like quite a minor error on the surface, however... if the expert's goal was to make a good impression on the prosecution (for the sake of what he thinks the jury's interpretation should be), then his choice of words could've been something of a strategy (at least subconciously) to present reassurance where there wasn't a defiant means to do so. That said, the expert's only other options were to say such as that there "certainly were times when he felt that Nick COULD'VE been reporting A-typical symptoms.... " While it actually would seem most appropriate to replace the words "certainly" and "could've" with just simply mentioning that Nick "seemed" or "appeared" to report A-typical symptoms. Regardless though, any of those three options wouldn't sound as overall decisive as the expert saying that there were "certainly times when he felt that Nick was reporting..." being that the word "certainly" used prior to the expert's descriptive means (how they personally felt about Nick's credibility), appears to mask the word "feel" as a decisively answered one, when it's not. Everything taken together, it would've been preferable for the expert to either provide an entirely blunt, fact-based answer or one that was based on a speculated indication... as opposed to a mid-between. Anyways... it would also be preferable for me to try to make sure to listen more carefully next time. Indeed.

      This expert claiming that there was "robust" evidence of malingering with one example being in the structured interview.that Nick was given by this individual. The expert claimed that there was about every OCD example in a typical person's lifestyle that you could think of and that Nick claimed many of them, yet this wasn't supported by the history. It would've been preferable to hear at least one example (also there being no paper record, just a verbal discussion with just this expert as the only link to the proposed evidence) since Nick is alleged to have claimed so many OCD "tendencies" and the evidence against him is to the extent of robust, then it seems appropriate to give the jury a more in depth understanding. For example, if Nick claimed that he is OCD about getting around slow drivers, yet he doesn't have any speeding tickets... or whatever and all. This expert's opening word to the topic of malingering was "yeah" while yes sounds distinctly more professional.

    • @ryanjansen8785

      This expertmentioned himself as being personally involved with Nick for 21 hours and was able to see both how Nick presented himself in contrast to his answers on the trauma symptom inventory tests. The expert then went on about how another test is the best one that he knows as best recalled... for detecting lies and indicated that Nick was deceitful. However, if he's going as far as even mentioning that HE the expert had witnessed extensive presentation of Nick in the midst of all this, then it seems that he was trying to give the impression that even Nick's behavior itself was suspicious in some way(s), yet no answers based on personal observation were mentioned. It at least sounds like he was trying to give the impression that Nick's behavior indicated deceit based on personal presentation alone, but in the event that it didn't, then there was no real reason for the expert to mention his 21 hours of personal time with Nick in contrast to the scored results. It's a wonder if the expert was trying to slip in suspicion of Nick's behavior too easily to the jury, without having to specifically verify.

    • @ryanjansen8785
      @ryanjansen8785 Год назад

      Although Nick did first mention the Swasika being interpreted as a peace symbol by the native Americans, he probably first mentioned that because it was the less likely of the two usages, that the expert would've been aware of. Granted, this Nazi symbol is offensive enough that a person SHOULD first acknowledge it as something of negatively offensive, but Nick already did that in a previous statement. Prior to that, when asked what kind of attention did he receive or try to get with the Swastika symbol personally labeling his beliefs, he said it could be perceived as negative or positive, but he mentioned negative first, even despite people typically mentioning "positive or negative" when this phrase is referred to on most or practically all occasions. Nick probably said it the uncommon way in reverse ("negative or positive") because he wanted to prioritize acknowledging the Swastika as offensive, but since he got that part established already, then Nick should not be accused of "malingering well." However, he was distinctly well spoken and didn't seem to have to grasp far for answers, while also displaying humbleness by labeling himself an attention seeker in this matter of Swastika labeling.
