Some say that a life sentence is harder punishment than the death penalty, and I believe it. Some witnesses to the execution of killers who murdered their loved ones say that the killer got out of it too easy. As a side note, note that the judge ordered that his commissary be garnisheed until all the various costs she listed were paid in full. That's probably going to make for an additional really cruddy feeling for a couple of years or so in whatever prison he goes to now.

30 life sentences consecutive w/o commissary is going to be hell. Any prison guard will tell you this guy is going to wish he was dead. No skiing, surfing, camping, bars, restaurants, lobster, margaritas, baseball games, vacations, or ocean views, canyons. He will be forgotten by public & die an old man. Deep inside himself alone on his bunk at night there will be regret till the day he dies.

Non person?. He was an 18 yr special needs student, whose parents left him when he turned 18. He had a house,a bed and no food. Then his school was dropping him because he had aged out of the special needs program. Since his parents didn’t care there were no plans to further his education or skills so he could be a productive human. He was left alone with a sever learning disability, no parents, no school and few if any friends. The child was lost and angry. The school community saw him as a drain on resources. This wealthy community only saw a looser who would not prosper like their kids. If anything, the entire community and school should be jailed.

I could barely hold back throwing up from the nausea I felt whilst even just skipping ahead frequently through this sentencing; I can't imagine how physically hard it was for those who already lost loved ones, but had to relive the massive weight of the damage this person has inflicted just by listening to how many counts of injury this person inflicted. Mostly the calm face of the guilty person alone made my head want to explode from the anguish in knowning how much pain they have caused.

The way I see it, there's two sides to the life or death sentence debate.
It feels like a waste having scum like this live off of tax dollars. Sentence them to death and get done with it. Don't spend any money on these beings.
On the other hand, a life sentence can be a lot more punishing than dying. Being forced to live the rest of your life in prison, withering away without making getting to live out your life, let alone achieve anything significant.
Someone committing such a disgusting crime, especially this young, should just be put in permanent solitary confinement, stuck in their cell without getting to leave it, without any free time activities. Obviously that's not a way to treat a human, but someone like this .. come on. While you're at it, put them on suicide watch so they don't get to take the easy way out. Really make him take in those 50-60+ years to come.

He needs to slowly forget what pretty girls look like, what fresh cut grass smells like, what the night sky looks like, what delicious food tastes like, what nice clothes feel like, what a great, live concert sounds like.
He needs to slowly forget what good fun having a bbq with good friends and family is like.
He will never have a profession, or a family of his own, he will never buy a nice car, he will never chose to eat what he wants, when he wants.
He will get up when told, eat when told, go to bed when told.
A life sentence is best in my opinion as this freak will eventually have a blurred image of what a good life is.
He will develop the "institution shuffle", head down, feet dragging...
He will struggle to remember, and do not doubt for a minute that it will kill him to want it so bad he will cry in the night.
And he will hear other inmates also scream and cry out in the night.
He will be surrounded by murderers and thugs for the rest of his repulsive life, without any love or peace.

I was watching an episode of Forensic Flies when writer Patricia Springer said these words:
"Jack Reeves has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I've interviewed several serial killers, and Jack Reeves is the most cold-blooded person I've ever met."
The same should also be said for Nicolas Cruz. He didn't even flinch or show any emotion as the judge delivered every sentence. My heart goes out to everyone whose children were killed or wounded by this cold-hearted psychopath. May he forever rot in hell.

I wish to express my sincere sympathy to the parents of these victims. Your lives have been forever altered due to the tragedies you have suffered, and my heartfelt prayers 🙏 for the easing of your pain have been said. As to the sentencing, I am grateful the life sentences were made consecutively rather than concurrently. This will ensure he remains in prison until the day of his death, so that he can never inflict harm to anyone else. God bless you all.

I'm a retired prison guard and I don't believe I life in prison. If someone does something bad enough to spend the rest of their life in prison then that life should a damn short one. This POS is a waste of the air he breaths much less the resources that will be expended taking care of him for the rest of his life.

Praying? That's funny. So, just for the record, in my country, Mr. Cruz would be held for about a week then shot. You Americans are way too soft. You'll end up protecting him during his incarceration, and who's footing the bill? The American tax payers. Happy?

I feel bad for him as well. He was born to a drug addicted criminal mother who was incarcerated and had to give him up. He was adopted. Both of his adoptive parents died a few months before the mass shooting. Obviously this doesn’t justify what he did but it does shed some light on how people go berzerk. There is no way the drugs his mother was taking did not affect his brain.

It pisses me off to no end that my tax dollars and the tax dollars of all Floridians will be used to keep this POS alive in prison. He is exactly why a death penalty exists in Florida. Judge Scherer presided over this mess of a trial with dignity. The Public Defenders office…that’s a different story. I can only hope some of not all of these clowns are referred to the Bar on character and mental fitness concerns.

      Wholeheartedly agree.
      Appalling sentence.
      No justice served.
Subject doesn’t just intentionally kill one or two or three innocent humans but seventeen and gets to fully live until he dies of natural causes while his victims don’t.
But wait .. here’s the kicker... subject will live off his victims families and their friends tax payer dollars till he passes away, which realistically can be till he’s hundred or so years of age. His room (roof, bed, utilities, etc), board (food, clothes, etc), entertainment (board games, magazines, cards, TV, etcc), dental, medical...all FREE.
How anyone can advocate for a life in prison sentence and or say this sentence is righteousness, is beyond my comprehension. Obviously the mind of a leftist loon. Same mind who say it’s okay to kill human babies just don’t hurt animals because they have rights. Same deranged minds of those climate change loons too.
Normal people aren’t able to grasp or comprehend the minds of those sick sick twisted individuals.
This is truly appalling. Tax payers have already footed more than $900,000.00 between incarceration and court costs.
      I have no further.
      I’m disgusted.
      🤦🏻‍♂️

I feel ya on this. Take hope in this, death penalty sentence comes with years of appeals and such, sometimes 10 to 15, while sitting on death row isolated. Life sentence a chance he gets to mingle with others and well….accidents happen. Just a thought

I think the death penalty is actually more expensive if he was executed and maybe 30 years probably more expensive than him living another 60 years

The death penalty would cost you more taxdollars than life in prison due to a longer legal proces, appeals, etc. I don't think this kid deserves any of that
