- Tony Montalto, whose daughter Gina was among 17 people killed by Nikolas Cruz during the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, didn't hold back his emotions, sharing his thoughts on his daughter's "murdering bastard" and the jury's decision to spare him of the death penalty.
He sentenced 17 to death yet only gets life? Truly injustice.
But its not. These people do t get to spend life in prison. Justice was not served.

The way the judge choked up as this victim affirmed her attempts to treat the families as compassionately as her legal role would allow… she’s really dealt with a lot of BS in this whole ordeal.

The heartbreak and justifiable anger from Gina's dad has me in tears. The fact that 2 people were sentenced to death that same week but he didn't made me sick to my stomach. This is an incredible injustice to the victims (family are victims to) Sadly he's right. This prisoner will be given extra security and there's nothing that can be done about it. We can only hope he's locked in PC [[in the hole]] for the duration of his life. They are forced by law to protect him but what's worse, the tax payers of Florida will have to pay for ALL OF IT. It is SO unfair to the victims. I hope the other prisoners make his life in there a living hell!

I always remember what happened to Jeff Dahmer. He was kept away from general population but someone bided their time and eventually managed to kill him in prison. My hope is that Cruz will end up the same as Dahmer, beaten to death and left on the shower floor.

While I agree that Nikolas Cruz deserved death, I have to say that the jury had to vote its conscience. I dont like it as much as you do, but sentencing a person to die is a very hard thing to do, so I can understand (understanding is not the same as agreeing with) why the jury voted the way they did.
They do it all the time. They let their emotions decide a case, not the evidence. This needs to change, otherwise there can be no justice. Look at Emmett Till, they let those murderers go free. It is the same in civil cases as well. I faced one such case recently, when an all white and Asian jury denied my case. They ignored the evidence and went with their bias and emotion against a black man. The judge just hung his head in disgust.
Trust me, Cruz will wish to die soon enough. John Lennon's killer still gets ground up florescent light glass put in his food to this day.
Why do you want the state to kill someone so badly? I understand what he is, but, he will have more pain being alive and in prison until he passes away of natural causes or gets shanked than if executed. I understand emotionally why people want the death penalty but tbh, it would be to easy on him.

I am in awe of Mr. Montalto’s courage and reverence for his daughter and the other victims. He is so eloquently spoken. He is a captivating speaker and I so feel his pain in the jury’s unjust decision

If that hold out juror didn't believe in the death penalty for this monster, then he or she didn't believe in it at all. In my opinion this was a stealth juror who got onto that jury fraudulently, because Nicholas Cruz is clearly the poster boy for the death penalty.

He deserved the death penalty, and 11 of them had the balls to say so. I'd have said a lot worse if one of my loved ones had been murdered by this scumbag. I hope he gets what he deserves in prison. I avoided this trial until today. But even I needed to hear what these parents had to say. I lost a child of my own. Even so, these parents have an absolute right to be heard by me in spite of my own sad history. Whoever buries their head in the sand is ignoring their responsibility to the human race. May the Lord put His arms around these families and grant them peace. I humbly offer my heartfelt condolences.

Every word he spoke truly resonates, I hope someday we'll finally address the discrepancies that are so apparent in our justice system. I'm not usually a proponent for the death penalty but in heinous cases like this one it's definitely warranted.
My heart breaks for this man, just as I am also so proud of his strength. My hope is that the more these types of trials are streamed the more we see the system is broken as the pendulum has swung too far to the criminal's rights at the expense of the victims. It is a shame.

My uncle got murdered in Florida, he was beaten over the head with a baseball bat. He was homeless. A waitress was being harassed by 2 men and he put himself in between the waitresses and the men and pushed them out of the restaurant where they offered him free meals in exchange for cleaning dishes ext. They followed him to his tent and killed him. The two killers got 25 years with parole. They are now out. There are no victims rights in Florida only for criminals it seems

His pain and anger is justified, but what he's asking for isn't. Life or death shouldn't come down to a simple majority or super majority vote. If one innocent person is executed as a result, I doubt anyone would assume responsibility.

@Seargent Stadenko First of all I am not poor, I don't live high on the hog, but I live comfortably. I am also not uneducated, I graduated Magna cum Laude with a 3.72 GPA. Just because I believe the law is wrong doesn't mean you have the right to attack me. The defense has pretty well all the rights during the penalty phase, so they can try and avoid the death penalty. I believe that the victims should have the same right to show a self-confessed mass murderer deserves nothing less.

Marco Polo wants the system to use the eye for an eye philosophy/standard to achieve justice. That wasn't the result because some jurors felt sorry for the murderer. Can’t there be a mistrial when jury was being lied to by murderer’s lawyers saying he slipped through the cracks after having so much support? Did the jury misunderstand instructions or the law?

This man spoke the truth. The juror who would not impose the death penalty deserves to be remembered and spoken of as a true coward as well as an inhumane monster. To deny justice and rob the families of the victims justice, should brand that juror for all time as a complete and udder failure as a human being. What that juror has done is the most cruel act of injustice that this country has ever seen.
Listen...he will wish he had gotten the death sentence...it could have taken years of appeals to finally kill him...during that time he would have no one in his cell to harass him nor fear being thrown into the general population...with a life sentence he's gonna be tortured for years without those death row benefits...I'd say a life sentence is much worse than the death penalty
