AEW also has storylines! It has the elite angle,that angle is 100% going to turn Jack Perry into a superstar! and they also have uh... The lesbian angle,yeah that one seems to be the only thing that bumps ratings... Also the wholesome angle about swerve totally not being a transitional champion and Ospreay letting him go over on the last ppv to prove it
Tony doesn't know how to make superstars. Jade made herself one without a 10/10 wrestling moveset, and Perry has done everything to tank ratings. No superstars to be seen
They have one storyline they keep revisiting - will this group of IRL friends be playing on-screen friends again or will they be fighting again - and it's absolutely exhausting. I'd say it'd be better if they tried it with other people & not just the Elite, but they have... and it's just as "ugh, this again, another no-reason-given heel turn cuz y'all can only book tweeners" as those.

Wrestling fans LOVE fantasy booking. This is where the story becomes critical. With engaging stories and layers upon layers sprinkled in, fans can have a field day thinking what could happen and how they would attack the story moving forward. People are also eager to see who this goes compared with how the WWE actually decides for it to go. This makes sure the fans are engaged and following the product. The WWE also (via the Wyatts mainly) trained people to look at even the tiny details at the backgrounds of shows (even backstage interviews) for some clues hidden somewhere. This trains fans to focus on the show itself and be aware of the whole scene. This makes people keep their eyes on the screen instead of losing focus and doing something else. Not to mention the camera work that also keeps people on the lookout on how they shot certain scenes. All in all, they are doing a lot of little things that makes people engaged and want to interact with the product and this really is one of the big reasons that are making them really successful now.

TBH I've been treating my watches of AEW as when I just need a buncha wrestling matches and I just ignore their stories that don't involve MJF. I agree that WWE has the edge over AEW right now with its stellar storytelling, but I don't want AEW to fail cause it would just mean less wrestling for me to watch in the long run. I hope AEW down the line gets it together and start realizing that they need good writers and producers; they already have Meltzer-approved athleticism, all that's missing now is basic good storytelling.

I have concocted the coldest reason: what if Paul Heyman was to use Roman's leukemia??? It would be cold as hell but listen, how can he stand by Roman, who could go any day, instead of Solo Sikoa who is healthy, he has a whole career ahead of him and has a whole new Bloodline behind him? I don't think they would go this route but it makes sense and it's completely sick.😅 (It's a realization that will occur to him once the choice presents itself to him; right now he had an emotional reaction against Solo and he was ditched. It's not one of the lame swerve stories where a guy gets beaten up by his own guys and it was a ruse all along).
