    • @cylotron

      I currently own a Quest 2, Vive Cosmos Elite, Index and a Pimax 8K Plus. Unfortunately, the Quest 2 & Cosmos Elite are both too small for my head(I'm 6' 4 ½" and wear hat size 8.5), so I never use either of those. In case anyone mentions it, I have tried 4 different straps and the 'wide' face cushion for the Quest 2.. as well as I tried the "thin" face cushion for the Cosmos Elite. Unfortunately, there was minimal help. These 2 headsets are just not meant for big & tall people. --- However, I have no problems wearing either the Index or the Pimax(both fit fine). --- I will also say that I hated how limited the FOV is on both of the Quest 2 and Cosmos Elite(feels like you are looking through a pair of kid's binoculars). The Index FOV is noticeable much better. However, the FOV on the Pimax is unbeatable. Such a huge jump over the Quest 2! -- The only downside to the Pimax is the audio quality on the KDMAS(head strap) is horrendous. You have to use your own headphones separately. Whereas the audio quality on the Index is fantastic!

      I'm no longer using my Valve Index (because of Godrays and low resolution) and Reverb G2 (because of the WMR nonsense and bugs). I'd like a Varjo VR-3 but my triple 4K OLED setup will have to do for now (sim racing setup).

    For me, the chromatic aberrations in the G2 were way too distracting. Overall visual detail is near identical with the G2 and Pro 2, but while the Pro 2 has that glare issue, I'd rather take the Pro 2 over the G2 I think. Some slight softness on the edges is better than colour separation in my books.
    The Index looked amazing though, just needed more resolution and it would have beaten the other two.

    • @World_Theory
      @World_Theory 3 года назад +2

      I don't have a headset. But I do have prescription glasses with strong enough lenses that there is chromatic aberration around the edges. Or at least, there was...
      After about a month of wearing my new, stronger prescription of glasses, I found that the chromatic aberration seemed to disappear. It seems absurd to think the lenses themselves somehow changed, so it must be me that changed. I think my brain has learned to compensate for the color separation.
      I doubt there is anything special about me in this matter, so I'm sure anyone could do given enough time. That's the thing though... "given enough time"
      I did it with eyeglasses that I wear all day, every day. But a VR headset is usually not worn all day, every day. So it could potentially take a lot longer for someone adjusting to a VR headset, than it did for me and my glasses.
      Just know that there may be a fix to chromatic aberration, depending on how much time you spend in VR.
      I have a different reason for shying away from the HP Reverb G2... It requires Windows. I want compatibility with Linux. And the Valve Index is the only headset I know for sure will work on it. I need to do a little more digging on the Vive Pro 2, and see if there are workarounds for other headsets.
      If I were happy to stay on Windows, I'd definitely consider getting the Reverb G2, if only for the price combined with the excellent visual clarity. But if I were happy on Windows, I'd also consider getting a Pico Neo 2, or even one of the really cheap Windows Mixed Reality headsets. Money is a significant constraint for me. I don't have enough for all the other things I could spend it on.

      @@World_Theory I'm Linux as well. Overall I want the Index but also need better resolution. At this stage I'm waiting to see what the Index2 will be like in the flesh and I'll probably decide which way to go then.

      Can confirm this to be the exact issue with the G2, had it and immediately the edge to edge clarity is appalling compared to anything else (Rift S, Index....). Sure the centre spot is lovely sharp clarity but that is not always where your eyes are looking, as a VR user that runs sims mainly (Flight/Racing), its just unacceptable.
      I sold it on within a week of trying it and went back to my Index, i'll take some iffy godrays anyday!

      @azizsidky9456 3 года назад

      You totally can, but its expensive and might seem too complicated for some users, although it does not take long. Basically you'll need two valve dongles (like the ones with the trackers), index controllers and 2 base stations, and that adds up money wise obviously, you then sync the Valve index controllers to your G2 controllers and it works, but you will be using two separate tracking methods. The G2 headset will still use cameras for tracking itself (so its tracking won't improve), and the controllers will use the base station infrared system (which will work with Valve's 1:1 tracking system, which is close to perfection in terms of tracking.

      Index is better for those who like room scale. But for flight sims and racing, the G2 is king. I’ve had both and their is no doubt the G2 has a better overall image quality. Index is better in a lot of ways, but for simmers, the G2 is better. Also a pain having to reposition sensors when you want to go from a seated VR experience to room scale.

    I see in this comparison Valve Index has less pixels and has god rays, but at the same time the best chromatic aberration pattern and picture quality not that bad because of this factor looks even prettier . Hp Reverb G2 has better clarity but distracting chromatic aberration picture quality. And Vive Pro 2 has some kind of horizontal ribs when you move your head and god rays are here as well.
    Thanks for the comparison!

    The HP Reverb G2 may not have god rays but it for sure as heck has chromatic aberration around the edges of screen elements. While the index's Fresnel lenses eliminate chromatic aberration but at the cost of having god rays. It's a trade off.
    Honestly the Vive Pro 2 is a downgrade in comparison because the Vive Pro 2 has a reduced FOV, terrible audio, and cringe-tas-tic microphone. The only positive it has going for it is a Higher resolution display. So when you weight it against the Valve Index the Valve Index comes out a better proposition despite the full kit costing $999 still. Plus HTC is still using the Vive Wands and if you've ever used the Valve Index Controllers you know they are superior to the Vive Wands in almost every way (except when playing beat saber).
    So yeah I'm not upgrading to either headset, sticking to my Index until something better comes along and by Better I mean doesn't use lenses that have neither glare nor chromatic aberration. Maybe a headset with prismatic lenses (and a IPD adjustment up to 76.5 max) will come out one day and blow my mind but I doubt it'll be anytime soon.

    I am surprised nobody talks about the screen quality itself. I can't talk for other headsets but, I find the contrast ratio of the LCD panels within the G2 abismal... Watching a movies or play games with dark scenes you get horrible grey scale banding, crunched blacks and overal a complete lack of detail in dark areas. Black is grey. That ofcourse deminishes if you play games that dont feature a lot of dark scenes and I would go nuts with lower resolution headsets. Screen door effects are distracting for me. But since I play Sims mostly the reverb g2 overall is still the best value/resolution wise. I wish they would release a OLED version with the resolution of the G2 for a similar price... oh and bloody hell is the G2 hard to drive with the humongous resolution that steamvr has to render ~3100x3100 PER EYE! (To compensate for the lenses). VRSS should help fix that but not many sims implement such techniques. Having a 2080 super even then I am struggling. Probably only the 3080 or similar would be the way to go for the full fat experience.

      I feel the same way. I've had a PSVR headset for a few years now, but I wanted something with more freedom to use on my PC. I've been lying awake at night going over in my head hundreds of youtube review videos I've watched. Today I just bit the bullet and order the HP Reverb G2 from HP's website. My main thing is resolution, and it seems to have the best. I absolutely don't like "God Rays", to me that's less desirable than blurring of the edges, but I guess we'll see when I get it. I think that's why I a lot of people have multiple headsets though; they buy one, then find out there's another that doesn't have the one or two flaws theirs has, but then THAT one is missing something, so they buy another, and another, hoping to find the "holy grail" of headsets, which I don't believer exists....yet.
