That's just rough.

Lol 😆 that’s hilarious
I disagree with half of what he said, it is an outdated review , I have it and I love it , best VR you can get, you can even have 4 base station in each corner making tracking precise and room area up to 10 x10 meters
@@Berndr The best vr you can get is the valve index.
@@Berndr it's a penis joke fam
I’m a VR enthusiast and the price tag to even me is absolutely bananas. HTC is being a real turd.
Snazzy Labs hey why is it that the Samsung Odyssey which is half the price right now not getting more spot light? The headsets are basically the same ( tracking of course different) and the Samsung one comes with the complete set up. That is also 100 dollars less than the orginal vive is currently too. Ah keep making great videos!
Because the tracking is lackluster by comparison and you have to run Windows software underneath everything you play (on SteamVR) which hurts performance. Despite saying all that it is probably not going to disappoint a new user though.
NobleBrutus there is a lot of things that need to happen to run the vive properly too that hurts performance just like how on the rift it opens oculus every time. Also the windows house is not running in the background only the software that turns on the device. There is nothing showing except the vr start screen. It is when you go into the house does it effects you. You can launch games through the steam game library. So you don't even need to enter the house UI. Tracking was a bother for the rift too I needed a third camera if i wanted to turn around to attack what's behind me. I'm sure the room scale for the vive can be difficult to keep set up. My inside out tracking 97% of the time is accurate and has no tracking issues. So in the small apartment I am in I can just put on my headset and play vr. With only one cable needed from me to my computer. The windows mixed reality platform is still very new and there are bugs. It's easier to deal with the 1400x1400 per eye in my HP than the 1080x1200 in the rift or the vive. I need more pixels to adapt to my weird eyes.
Snazzy love your content
Having not tried it I am repeating only what I have heard so I am very glad it works well for you! I don't know what 'needs to happen' to affect Vive performance though? Vive room tracking is obviously more effort, though notably still only one cable goes to the computer. The level people want to go to to get the slightly better experience obviously varies.
"not for the reasons you might expect"
Why do they always say that. I don't expect any reasons...
Haha, I feel this comment on a personal level.
*turns around looks at an empty room* “Who, me?”
Right? I’m just here because my finger slipped

I guess other people thought stuff lol.
If you don't expect any reason, then it is safe to say it. Therefore why not? ^^
Just a quick feedback from a professional arcade: The headstrap lasted 2 weeks before the nob was worn out. The first time the headset dropped (yes it does occur in a arcade) the forward&back mechanism was broken, second drop the complete headset was broken. generell feel is no quality. we reverted back to the original vive. This is in Fusion Arena Zurich.
Jesus. Even for the recommended scenario, the Vive Pro is an expensive joke. Pretty sad.
Thank you, at the arcade I work at we've been debating constantly for weeks if to get the Pro.
Maybe some rubber padded floors in the playarea might help preserve your investment (and possibly some broken bones) in that unlikely event someone should fall or drop the unit. And as for the strap knob, well, I totally fee ya there.
3 months late but another professional arcade here. No issues beyond mics just simply ceasing to work for seemingly no reason. Sorry to hear that you guys didn't get a lot of good use out of them and if you're ever in Orlando stop by VR Territory, love to talk shop with you.
how do you rate the htc vive to the rift?

With the pressure on your nose and the movement in game It sounds like you haven't adjusted the top strap correctly. I was having issues with mine until I realized the top strap plays a much bigger role on the Vive Pro than it did the OG Vive. Now I find it SIGNIFICANTLY more comfortable than my old Vive.
Shhh.. you don't need to know what you're doing when you're popular.
you just need to sound like you do
If someone can't easily figure out how to use something optimally, that's a design flaw, not a user flaw
Fonduman it says it in the big getting started page that comes in the package. I'm guessing he assumed it was the same as his old Vive. Same as I did. The instructions were very clear, some people just neglect them.
yeah the pro is so much more comfortable. pro over the old vive any day! the weight is so good. you dont have all the weight at front anymore.
You really think Linus reads instructions? Surely if there's that much of a difference, they'd had advertised it better; especially since original vive users probably aren't going to want to read the instructions for a second time for basically the same product. Printing "even more customisability for better comfort" or something would maybe make people look into it.
Is it just me or is it triggering he didn't take off the front protectors.

I guess they get so much free shit from everyone that they don't care about that anymore.
He has said that in the worst case, they will simply buy the products full retail if the companies won't supply.
I like how they give you it for free but your still brave enough to shit on it
Tim diersing they give it to him for feedback
No, it is to late for feedback when it is already out. They give it to him to review it, in the hope that a positive review will benefit sales.

Brave?? Haha. The dude has millions of subs and he knows he can do whatever he wants. Get wok, dude.
After using the Vive pro at someone else's house, these are my impressions. I have an oculus rift cv1 and quest. I personally love the strap design. The visual quality is great. The refresh rate is high. I don't like the wands but this can be fixed with knuckles. I have also tried a valve index and I'd say they have a very similar level of comfort.
.. speaking of letdowns. Know who let me down. TUNNELBEAR! Letting customers down since 2018
What happened with tunnelbear?
but is that what disappointed H&NKinsha
most likely...its disappointing for sure
TunnelBear sucked before then though. It crashed almost every fucking session for me. Garbage.
Punderino Well pia isn't as easy as tunnelbear but heavy multiplatform, fast, cheap and allows the use of torrents. I only found out that the pirate bay was blocked by my isp (not by choice it was a court order) by reading the news.
HAHAHA: "this is the best vr experience available right now..."
as he stuffs it with its cable bundle back in the box
Wow. For how little this improves things, it's crazy how much it costs.
and for how much they stole from Oculus as well... like the headband and headphone bilateral movement. Unfortunately the one thing they should really try to mimic is the analog stick on the controllers which would allow walk and not teleport in VR games.
What a bunch of idiots.
you can walk with the vive though? the touchpads function as analog sticks as well...
yes its true, but its easier with an analog, in fact much easier.
Quite false, Both works fine for movement.
They work*, but the analog is much better imho, Maybe per game but in games like Onward simply laying your thumb on your D-pad will cause your character to move, often unintentionally. I prefer something more tangible.

How does that make any sense? I'm personally waiting for this tech to be more refined before buying, and I thought this might be the version to start with but its just the headset so like many ppl similar to myself this is a terrible product if you were looking to get your first VR set up. Take the ps4 pro it still came with a fucking remote not just the console because they assume that you already had the old one.

Its already nasty enough when one person uses headset long periods of time. :D
Dissapointing. I'm a rift user, but support ALL VR platforms. I was really hoping this would be a game changer
TicTwitchTeen omg hi!
Why would you think that a generation 1 product releasing a 'Pro' version would be a game changer? If anything, the Vive 2 would be a theoretical game changer.
I actually think its pretty good
I tried the pro and I do think it’s a game changer. The resolution is so much better, definitely worth it.
For what Ive heard the resolution is quite an upgrade and for that alone I envy Vive as a Rift user
It's funny that 4 years later, the Vive Pro is still one of the best headsets out there. It's got the same resolution as an index with a comparable Field of View, but uses OLED displays.
I was looking into the vive pro... But man, the entire setup on the original is $499. That's the unit, controllers and sensors. Compared to the $1200 for the pro.
I mean, is it that big of an improvement? I want to jump into VR and have the best unit I can (reasonably) but that's a huge jump.
It's less that these are an improvement and more that they cut the prices of the old versions in half once they moved on because they want as many people invested in VR as they can manage to increase the buyer pool, but without taking too significant a hit to their profits. The biggest downside to VR dev is the extremely small amount of people who would be able to use the product even if it was the best experience on the planet. This means fewer companies can take the risk of developing for VR which means a smaller chance of good content, which means fewer reasons to bother with the VR at all. So cutting the price of the old version by as much as they can manage makes a sort of sense there.
I have the windows mixed reality headset which is like 300 I think it's great, it has no sensors as they are all built in and you still have full room scale. I have played pretty much all the good games on vr and they all work great. You can even play htc vive and oculus games because it has an analogue stick and a touch pad. Not to mention it's 1440p and a lot clearer than the oculus and vive. I would recommend the Samsung version as it has an even higher resolution and an oled screen
The Doc no way I had no idea that works! I got mine with a gaming pc on sale, I then sold the gaming pc and made £50 and got the headset and some games. (Pricing mistake at maplin)
Paul Karyakos not trolling or anything but honestly i prefer the Oculus, my cousin has a vive but i HATE the Vive controllers. Oculus Touch is waaay better.

longbowdt : I'm not upgrading until GPU prices come down (only got a 970) & the wireless adapter is out. The standard Vive is still pretty good for what it is.
I really lucked out on buying the Zotac 1080 mini for $499.00 a week later it was $800.00. But prices are starting to drop now, finally, but still a bit higher than "normal". Blame Bitcoin speculation.
Real change will be when the wireless versions come out.
impossible unless there is a hyperfast pci-e speed wireless bluetooth
HTC have already announced a wireless add-on they're releasing this year. www.digitalartsonline.co.uk/news/hacking-maker/hands-on-htc-vive-pro/
Scroll half way down the page to the wireless segment.
The Impossible just became possible.
yeah it's 60ghz wifi or some such so it's got the speed just maybe not huge range without dynamic compression.
Mathew S imagine how much heavier it'll be with a giant Li-ion battery on it. Unless they come out with new lighter battery technology, I'm ok with cables for now
You simply dont put an li-ion battery ontop of the head, like none of the already comercially available wireless sollutions do. Let it be the third-party tpcast wireless kit or the first-party htc (displaylink/intel) one, the battery pack is located on your hip via strap or in your pocket. You obviously dont want to add any unnessesary and more importantly unbalanced weight to the head, thus integraded batteries, which only would come with drawbacks anyway, arent used in any of those.

I work at a small local owned arcade. Its very reminiscent of old school arcades, and not the ticket pushers of today. We also have a VR room where we allow customers to use our HTC Vive, but we are not planning on getting the Pro any time soon. For similar reasons mentioned in the video, and a few more. (And as i read in some comments, we use sanitizer wipes and replaceable head pads to help with the germ issue)
Upgraded to the Pro this weekend, and absolutely loving it. The resolution improvement alone makes VR fun again, but the fact it's more comfortable and easier to get on and off is what'll have me firing the Vive up more often now. Only complaint is the headphones, they are tinny and cheap. But overall, if you can afford it, I'd recommend the upgrade.
Interesting, I've had the Vive since it came out, and my friend picked up a Pro, which we tested last week. I personally would happily swap out my old Vive for the Pro - I could see much clearer in games, text is all readable now, games like Elite Dangerous look so much better - and along with the resolution bump, I've noticed contrast is better. I see more definition of shadows and colors seem more vibrant.
It was weird to get used to the new feel, as this headset sits differently, but I had no pressure on my nose, it was all on my forehead, and back of my head. It was actually up off my nose a bit, compared to my standard Vive. I didn't like the dial in the back as much - it felt cheaper and harder to use, then the dial on my upgraded headband for the old Vive, but it worked.
Overall, I have no plans to buy the Pro right now, but I may still pick it up once the wireless and updated bay stations are out in a full package. Unless another company has something that really competes with it at that time, and no, I'm not getting the Pimax (looks awful, sorry), and no, I have no interest in the Windows HMD's...once you are used to Vive tracking, anything less is just unbearable.
+Legion Elite
Yes.
I know it's been a while, but did you ever pick up the Quest 2? Higher resolution than the Pro and 100% wireless inside-out tracking

Yeah, heck with this thing. I'm looking to invest in a vanilla Vive after another price drop hopefully. It's inching ever closer to what would be a reasonable asking price for my budget.
The VR community is terrible anyway. Rat poison is much cheaper and it gives death virtual reality experience when you eat it. Rat poison (less than 10$) > HTC Vive Pro (700$)

2020 will be the year of affordable VR that doesn't suck.
Rift is like $400 and doesn't suck. Affordable for who? Get a job.
Rift still sucks in my opinion. Imo VR will be in its full form once we get a headset that's completely wireless with better tracking, higher resolution and more natural controllers than the current Rift or Vive have. The new Vive with the new lighthouses and the upcoming knuckles controllers seems like it could meet these standards but that's over $1000 and not all in one package. I would consider $500 or less to be affordable.
Higher resolution and more natural controllers are definitely needed in future headsets. However, wired headsets are not at all as much of a problem as people make it out to me.... it seems that people without the headsets make more of an issue of it. I got extended cables for my Oculus (the stock ones are way too short, even for a small play area), and I completely forgot that I'm playing while wired to the PC in a huge play area.
I also bought an additional sensor for the Rift for $60 and that made tracking almost perfect back in 2016, when the rift had trouble with room scale with only two sensors. Now, even if you play with two Rift sensors, you get pretty much perfect tracking. The ONLY thing Vive has on the Rift as far as tracking is being able to track in a bigger play area.
Honestly, for $400, the Rift is an excellent first generation headset. It's lighter than the Vive, has more natural controllers (which take batteries instead of having to constantly be charged), and the headset is overall a lot more comfortable (mostly due to being lighter). The tracking difference is not noticeable in medium sized play areas. It will also have resale value for when you want to upgrade to a second gen headset (which the Vive Pro is definitely not).
So I don't really see why you say the Rift still sucks even though it's a great example of the top tier first gen HMDs.
All first gen HMDs suck imo not just the rift. I have a Vive, I'm tired of tripping over cables and getting neck-aches from a heavy headset that's not super comfortable. Plus the tracking gets a bit off from time to time, very immersion breaking. Haven't used the rift but I've read the play area is not even room scale.
I think it's reasonable to see better hand-motion controllers, a fully wireless headset and better resolution that eliminates the screen-door effect by 2019. The inside-out tracking becoming as good as Vive lighthouses will be pretty tough but could be possible as well. So 2020 in all seems like a pretty reasonable time frame.
Great video I was considering buying a vive but I wasn't sure if I should get a vive pro. This made things very clear. Thank you you saved me a lot of money, also the disappointment of opening the box only to find no markers or controllers, certainly wouldnt be a good day. Thanks for the help in the video and keep making cool videos.
Virtual reality is useless would rather buy a 4K HDR monitor.
Perfect, I just ordered one of those.
Oof.
If you have a high powered card like a 1080ti it's heaven. But I don't use my headset exclusively for vr kickboxing like Linus so what do I know
Nah not really, most VR games still look like a blurry mess with supersampling turned on.
Its the optics that cause blurry messes and other undesirable glow effects in particular the Fresnel lenses introduce a lot of distortions but at the same time using non-Fresnel lenses would make the size/weight go way up. ruclips.net/video/pNOGMfmti4w/видео.htmlm
Generally though your not supposed to use them in anything with the words high resolution, low distortion, or imaging. In projection systems they typically are only seen in ultra-cheap projectors or to concentrate the light source to a smaller beam that gets cleaned up through other optical elements.
@Djinn: Do you actually have a Pro? Cause I do and it does not look like a blurry mess lol, it's quite clear, you can nearly match your real-world text scale reading.
Make sure you've actually properly measured your IPD and set it on the he headset... People don't understand how important proper IPD for making the image look clear.
Gonna do a review of the Valve Index?
I'd like to see some opinions of people around your office. :)

why is the original still priced at 700€ in the EU ?
Marios Rouggeris its 500 dollars in us about 600€
Max1281 And here I thought euros costed more than dollars...
tax ... people in US tend to not to include any tax to he price of the product as each of the states have its own separate tax.
here in EU where consumer goods are taxed around 20-25% we tent to name the final price with tax included. Which means our prices not only include the import fees but also pretty hefty consumer tax on top of that.
And since dollar based economies tend to go $1 = €1 then add import tax then add the "added value tax" on top it easily equals those €700
500 dollars would be about 430 €
20 - 25% ? We have 19% here.
Back when the Pro came out, I would pretty much agree with all the points in this video. However, after owning and using the unit both at home and at work (3D scene viewing of CAD models), I have to say that it is absolutely worth the money. It looks way better than the OG Vive (the panels), the weighting makes it more comfortable to keep on my head, and the headphones (when mated with those 3D printed clips that slide on the track and force more pressure to your ears) sound really good. If you have the money and you are wanting to stay in the SteamVR basestation space, it's a no brainer. Yes it costs a lot but I think once you start to realize that VR is a hobby, it becomes much easier to fork down the money. NONE OF US are going to make money back on selling these units so just treat it like a trip to the movies or whatnot. It's just for enjoyment.
You Canadians finally switched over to the Pesos system, eh?
Yeah
It's okay, dude.. maybe next time :)

I have been looking at the reviews for it and so far I am going to keep my original vive because the upgrades are to expensive for a so, so experience.
Haha, there we go. Proprietary cables, no controllers in the bundle, no base stations...
It's not a "bundle", it was clearly stated at launch of being the HMD only. There is a real bundle now, both 1.0 and 2.0 tracking. Personally, I have both the Vive and the Vive Pro; Both have their merits. I personally don't use the original and I believe the extra cost for the Pro is worth it IF you've never used or don't already own the original.

exclusive gamer22 Not really, it's not bad at all. I am very pleased with the tracking and controllers. Though I wouldn't mind having a Vive either. I'm not biased nor do I prefer one over the other except for minor differences. All in all, I think HTC has completely flopped on this one. I will be waiting to see how the Pimax 8k turns out, I imagine they'll have fixed some of the issues Linus mentioned in this video.
So far my fav is OG Vive but what ever works for you. Yeah whenever I use it the first thing I can think to upgrade would be less weight and bulk not more. I don't think this is made for me unfortunately.
exclusive gamer22 I tried Oculus roomscale and Vive roomscale before I made my purchase decision.. I chose the Oculus. To say one is WAY better than the other is pure fanboyism. You do know that businesses pay even MORE than consumers for the Vive?
Nightdare no they don’t haha, they make a profit, they wouldn’t make it if they were losing money
You don't get it:
the original comment I replied to (which is now gone) was about this being targeted at the businesses
Consumers buy the Vive for less cost than businesses do
It's not about HTC making money, it's that businesses will have to invest more per headset that the average joe, making the product less appealing for them
Back again...I did an upgrade to my original HTC vive....I did the lens mod, replaced the foam padding and WOW!!! This thing is like a new headset. I compared it to my Samsung Odyssey plus and it is more clear than that. In essence, purchasing an HTC Vive Pro is a rip off! get the original vive, do the lens replacement mod and change out the foam padding for the VR Cover (that's what it is called..it allows your yes to be closer to the lenses). There are no blind spots and you can actually move your eyes around and read text instead of moving your head....I also paired it with the wireless solution and it is now a truly great experience!!!
now wait, did you say arcades?
who's going to wear this thing after a thousand sweaty nerds wore it?
a vr headset seems to be like a personal item to me, maybe because I'm a sweaty nerd
Late reply here, but look into covers. You can get some really good waterproof ones that wipe down easily. The default sponge gets waaay to soupy to be comfortable passing around. (Or even just for personal use IMO, taking it off and coming back in to cold sweat is eww)
I think he meamt arcade genre games
@@martinelebeau7776 Nope, at arcades some places have Vive HMDs in there and is costs money per 10 minutes
It's actually a thing. These vr arcades usually have tournaments which you can win stuff.
HTC vive has screen covers you swap out after each session. pretty much a no brainer, they have them and its a must have for any arcade. If they don't have them, you shouldn't be going there unless you want to give your immune system a workout.
Why does it seem that Linus hasn't taken off the 2 stickers for the two front cameras it's bothering me
Andrew Yoo he didn't
Because no one uses the fucking camera anyway, waste of money and pointless additional weight
+Luke Wren I would have preferred it that he reviewed the cameras as well though... since they are part of the upgrade.
Okay Linus, just cut the nose off!
And now all problems are solved...
Hope I could have helped you!
you cann buy the vive pro in a bundle included the sesors and controller + the headset
Linus is really true for this one. I currently work at a VR arcade and development company. Recently team bought 2 X Vive Pro and 2.0 sets for development purposes.
I originally planned to switch my Vive w DAS to the Vive Pro and didn’t want to care about the “rumours” or “bad reviews”. but after trying on my company’s one, I was disappointed. The Screen Door Effect isn’t improved as much as many will think, the headset is kinda uncomfortable in that it’s not stable when performing side to side movements in frantic games (unless your head is much larger than an average user) as compared to the Vive w DAS.
Not what I expected for the “PRO”, but I Guess this Vive Pro and 2.0 kit, is better for development purposes at this moment, other than which, even to the enthusiasts, I really will suggest against buying it.
If you wanna go into VR, just take the Rift or Vive; and if you already own one, keep it. It’s really not worth spending a lot more money for the little improvements and flaws the Vive Pro has, also the fact it isn’t a fully consumer oriented product.
Thanks to the VR company, managed to save US$800.
Canadian rupee to Canadian peso? what a improvement.
an improvement btw.
Wait... So you're saying a pro-sumer product is not a good fit for the average consumer?!
What a shocking revelation.
RandomJunkOpinions
Most who read it are so shocked by the new information that they forget to like the comment and are instead thrown into an existential breakdown.
Yep, best comment so far.
Its not an prosumer product and even HTC openly said that. Even now they are still marketing it towards consumers, thus they shouldnt be suprised if these consumers are upset of the ridiculous price. The Vive "Pro" doesnt even justify its massive price tag even towards pro-sumers or enthusiasts, which a simple resolution jump certainly isnt enough for.
Bismarck Gaming
That "simple resolution jump" actually means the difference between a GTX 1060 (which can run the original Vive at its native resolution) and a 1080Ti which struggles to run the Vive Pro at its native resolution in a lot of applications.
If the Vive Pro requires the most powerful single GPU gaming graphics card in order to have a smooth experience at its native resolution, how do you expect to convince anyone it is a product targeted towards the average consumer?
First of all, the HTC Vive Pro dynamicly scales the resolution depending on what your system can handle. Other than that last time i checked an 1080ti certianly is NOT required to run an Vive Pro at that resolution unless you play some weird non-vr-optimized games i dont know about. Infact, the official recommended specs for the Vive Pro are an 1070, which is far from an 1080ti.
My friend got the original Vive, which I tried, and then I got the Vive Pro (with controllers and base stations included in the bundle). No regrets on my side. It might be a bit pricey, but hey, I can afford that.
Who votes for Linus to open a vr arcade?
You mean a VR-cade?

Its not a bad idea though 🤔

As someone who has had this headset for a few years now I am glad I jumped on it and the 5900x + FTW3 RTX3080 really let it shine in all games but the flying sims with this headset are really really good.
Oculus rift s- comes with controllers and sensors for (edit 399) US dollars, and a cord to connect to a pc
Vive pro- only comes with headset and cord to connect to pc, no controllers, no sensors, with better display for a non-affordable 700$
Oculus-1
Vive1-
Oculus quest-2
Wait, the rift s has built in tracking....
Rumor has it that a index will impress linus...
Idk what is index but I see it everywhere. I found out that it's a VR, but no idea why it's so popular though it is a no name brand for me.
István Juhász it’s made but valve a very popular brand who also made the HTC vive in collaboration with HTC, but now they are moving forward independently and designed a headset and everything by themselves, they are still gonna work with HTC tho.
@@themasterjarvis3864 what are these partnerships? I mean why do they need two company for one product?
István Juhász
The partnership was required because Valve was not able to manufacture their own headsets in-house. So they had to rely on someone else to actually create the hardware for their Lighthouse tracking system and SteamVR software.

It costs $1900 in Norway. :(
CantShootMe what. The. Fuck. Why the hell is the price that high? Is there inflation in norway or something? I live in denmark and the price is about 1200$
In Poland, it costs 1030 USD, and salaries here are not exactly like in Norway. Even the Oculus Rift, which sells in the USA for 400 USD, costs the equivalent of 600 USD locally. Pricing in Europe is so bloody annoying, and it hits countries with lower purchase power especially badly. Really doesn't help consumer adoption of VR...
Hah, try living in South America. Here in Uruguay stuff costs between 1.5 and 3 times the price in USA (with the Oculus going for around $1000) and the wages are worse than in Poland, so enjoy your not-quite-there but pretty great country.
Norway Minimum wage is 16 dollars. Almost twice as much as the US.
Same here in Ukraine (well, sort of; some stores are selling it for $1000-1400, but others tend to overprice the product).
No vibe for this
ifUreadthisURalien no Vive for this
Getting mixed reality
And here's me using Google cardboard with a leap controller, welp
Just got the Vive Pro bundle with wireless adapter and wireless addon. The wireless addon is REQUIRED to connect the wireless adapter to the vive pro. Anyhow I think in spite of the costs it's a HUGE improvement above anything else out there. I don't know what the Samsung Odyssey did when porting to steam VR because it's suppose to be the same specs as Vive Pro. VIVE Pro I really think it's worth the upgrade.
I think you maybe exaggerated the issue of the pressure on your nose from the headset. Dont you know thats what the strap on top of it is for? After you pull the strap back towards the rear of your head it definitely eases any pressure on your nose. My nose isnt the smallest in the world either and it worked for me. Did you even try this?
I dont have any affiliation with HTC whatsoever but this VR set is very good. I am very new to the world of VR, but I have to say that you were right about the extra accessories that SHOULD have been included in the Pro package. Obviously the business market which was their prime target aren't short a quid so that issue didn't matter much to HTC.
For me, the biggest issue, which I think you may not have mentioned, is the lack of wireless option. HTC still do not have their own wireless adaptor for purchase yet. This cable definitely gets in the way, so when the wireless version/adaptor comes out it will be a relief!
Yea, I doubt he spent much time adjusting it. He was bitching about it moving on his a head a little when he whips his head around, then takes it off and doesn't even need to turn the retention dial... which tells me it wasn't nearly tight enough.
This is possibly one of the only times I have completely disagree with you. The lower resolution of the original Vive is immersion breaking. Once you have that extra resolution you don't want to go back. And I find the Vive Pro more comfortable than the vanilla Vive. The price is total BS though and I'm shocked you didn't mention the heat level. The Pro is liking going tanning compared to the original.
heat level? Is that a thing on their latest release with the boxes and controllers for $1300...? maybe they fixed it now?
Immersion Breaking?? I've literally just got an original Vive and the resolution does not break the immersion for me. Yes I agree it could be better but it's still amazing tech nonetheless. Spoilt millennials these days i dunno??
Jake Black I think he says it's immersion breaking because he's so used to the higher res. However it's not as noticeable if you haven't used a vive pro, I don't think. As a regular vive user, I end up getting really immersed but I think he's just so used to a vive pro - he notices it way more.

Yeah nah, i'm just gonna keep using my $190 windows mixed reality headset that came with controllers included
ya I can't figure out that comment he made about controller tracking mine track just fine and are really accurate and they have the high res screens like the pro for a shit ton cheaper
Paid 150 bucks for a new Lenovo Explorer and I love it
Just a question can it still play all the same games as oculus and HTC?
Luke Stanley pretty much since you can use steam vr with it now
As judebox11 said, but if you are signed up for windows insider and use mixed reality for steam vr from the steam store you can even launch steam games from inside the mixed reality portal (instead of always having to launch from your pc then quit then go back to your pc)@@lukestanley820
VR is so amazing, just watching it, does it no justice (it's like describing the most beautiful actress you saw in person with stick figure drawing). VR is the most amazing, it's sometimes even better than the real world. I'm glad I've tried VR. The emotions the same game brings is multiplied so many times.
God bless, Proverbs 31
SevenDeMagnus google earth vr is also beautiful. Being able to go back to the house and streets I grew up on gave me major nostalgia. Thats when I knew VR was special and not just a gimmick.
@@TehUltimateSnake This has been my experience with Google Earth as well. Also every one of my friends that has tried it has done exactly the same thing. It can be a very emotional experience for a lot of people. Love having the VIVE and sharing it with my friends.
He was u boxing so slowing, then BAM sponsor baby. I just loved how he played that so slow.
It's funny that I actually found one of these in an arcade!
Because this is so dissapointing, I think you should review the $400 Samsung Odyssey that has the exact same screen. Using a software solution, the odyssey can be made to work with the original Vive's base stations and controllers if you don't like the inside-out tracking and controllers it comes with. It honestly seems like the greatest value high end headset on the market atm. The odyssey actually has better picture when you consider that the Vive Pro uses the old model of lenses that cause light bleed that the Odyssey doesn't.
CyberianFaux can you send a link regarding the base station software? I cannot find anything about that on google
I've seen someone else review the Pro recently and they confirmed it had zero lightbleed for them, compared to the original that did have bleed. And is far more comfortable for long sessions than the original and steams up less. Linus probably just didn't take enough time to fiddle with fitting it to his head properly.
CyberianFaux the acer version is 215 and it works just as good as this
I didn't mention the cheaper headsets because Linus Tech Tips only cares about high end hardware and tend to avoid budget oriented versions of things. Also, the Acer version has a lower field of view than some of the other budget oriented headsets such as the Dell and Lenovo Explorer.
CyberianFaux true ! I have a Lenovo Explorer and its amazing and cheap 250$
wait, you need a 1000$ PC to use this and then pay over 1000$ for the VR headset? Well thanks, I stick to a monitor
maybe in 3 years this things get affordable
you can get Oculus headset with full setup for $350. They are already very affordable
the original vive also got a priced drop, and primax is soon on the way aswell. ignore this pro one
+Sebastian E I think if you're willing to put 1k into your vr headset, you'll probably build a pc that runs more than that.
L Rom my pc cost €1100,- and it's only a gtx 1060..

So how was the headset?
@@dezmall6673 For me it worked great, even though it has been a while, now I have moved on to the new Meta Quest 3 headset. Portability and connectivity to all of the Meta platforms has made that headset a great deal, not only technologically but for the price.
I have had my vive Pro for about 8 months so far after spending many hours on my friend's original Vive and I fully disagree with Linus. Getting over the price (for the full kit) it's really good. Just because Linus didn't realise you don't get the full kit in his he put it in a bad light. The resolution is brilliant. Just watch nerdcubed's video, it's much more informative than this comment.
