I just want to let everyone know, I like the PMR and the issue was a fluke with the firing pin spring. Kel-Tec took care of it for no charge. When loaded properly with the proper ammo, this is a reliable and practical pistol. I hope everyone takes that away from this review.

On our ranch,we all carry PMR30’s when checking fence and field water tanks. The 22WMR has the power we need and zero weight to carry all day. My brother and I converted to these after talking to our neighbor ranchers. We run CCI ammo and load the magazines with Kel-Tex’s new loader.

My pistol I purchased in 2015, it functioned perfectly with Winchester, when the pandemic dried up, it would not function with CCI. It sat on the shelf for 2 years. I purchased the M*Carbo upgrade kit and sent the kit with pistol to KelTec. When the pistol returned, I loaded two mags with CCI and went to the range and emptied 60 rounds, malfunctions or jams. It’s my console pistol, no bad guy is going to stick around when someone is sending accurate rounds at them. The .22 Magnum is just below the .223 center fire rifle rounds.

I have a couple PMR-30s. They are both reliable, for me the success of the firearm is in the ammo used and proper loading of the magazine. I have a loading tool and my malfunction rate is nil for rimfire (1/250) when I use it. Ironically, for me the Winchester Super X Is the “problem child.” Thanks for the video.

I purchased my PMR30 when they first came out. Initially I had a problem with Winchester DynaPoint ammo, probably a bad couple of boxes. Since then I have a little over 2000 rounds through it with only one failure to feed. I had a magazine that somehow got a crack in it which prevented the last round in the mag from loading. I like the PMR so much that I bought a CMR30 and have over 1000 rounds through it without a problem.

    FYI :
Load the rounds into the mag correctly and you'll avoid feed issues and jams.
Most jams on these are in my opinion feed issues due to rounds not seated fully aft and aligned inside the magazine.
I haven't experienced light primer strikes with mine, but it was manufactured only several months ago.

Since I got it back it has been very reliable (provided the magazines are loaded properly). I tried several different speed loaders, but what seems to work best for me is to carefully hand load the magazine, tapping the back of it against the table every 4 or 5 rounds. I just need to show patience because it takes a while to load 30 rounds that way.

We have 2 of the 2nd gen pmr 30s. They’ve both been flawless with several types of ammo, when loaded correctly as per the instructions. We do use a Lula loader for them. Armscore has been flawless with 40gr SP. Hornady , Winchester , CCI, all have worked with no issues.
For the first 100rnds we did load only 25 to let the pistol cycle and break in some. It works fine with 30 now , but we still usually load 25-28 rnds. The originals seemed to have mag issues, 2nd gen I think they’ve been resolved.

The difference is amazing, no matter how good you think you loaded them before. They really do not like under 40 grain soft tips, but mne will go through 4 mags of Horandy Critilal Defense (45 grain) without a hickup of any kind. I'd send that pistol you used back to Keltec

Hey mate, great vid yeah. I found that these updated PMR30s have a more precision manufactured hammer spring, resulting in closer tolerances in length and tension. Some of the earlier ones would get a weak spring, right, resulting in poor hammer performance. It's a bit of a balancing act to get the exact hammer impact from correct spring tension, without effecting slide cycle efficiency, which directly effects ejection. They finally got it right and mine works like a center fire all day long. Stay safe mate, cheers!!

I have about 300 rounds threw this gun and I shoot 3 mags every week at my Local gun range! Maybe as I keep shooting more rounds, it will start to Malfunction like I have seen in some of these videos and then again It may Never Malfunction. I now have 2 P17's, one CP33 and one PMR30 and they all just refuse to Malfunction! OK, I lied little because I did have a few Dud Rounds and one Failure to Eject in over 2000 rounds! I tested it at my LGR and of 100 rounds, I had 3 FTF but I will continue to keep shooting at my LGR once every week and time will tell if other problems happen! For some reason if the top round in the mag is on the left with a round already in the chamber the first shot fired will cause a malfunction . If the first round on the top of the mag is on the right hand side of the mag with a round already in the chamber there will be no malfunction in firing the whole mag.

After mine came back it worked fine. Use the ammo they recommend. May work better if you only load about 25. Also don’t forget the Keltec cmr30 uses the same mags, a big plus, and mine came with a threaded barrel. Finally be careful how you load the mag. If you dent the casing it will have feed issues. Take your time loading the mag. Mine works fine. Also note: Keltec warns against using a suppressor on the pmr 30 but actually provides a threaded barrel on the Cmr 30. Go figure. Nice vid.

This pistol requires 40 grain high velocity ammo, the three types you tested did not meet the specifications to reliably cycle the action. However, loading the magazine correctly is tricky, most failures are a result of the magazine not properly loaded. It is crucial that each round is pushed all the back into the magazine, tap the mag ever 5 rounds or so and it will reliably cycle. I went ahead and ordered the Magula speed loader for the PMR30 and it is a game changer. All rounds are pushed all the way to rear and they all cycle properly. The light primer strikes is an issue that Kel-Tec will have to fix for you. It's a pretty awesome gun, mine is 100% reliable with Winchester super X and CCI 40 grain Maxi-Mags. Good luck to you.

I seen several reviews of this model. The gun itself has had most of it's problems worked out and users find it reliable. Like most slide guns it can be finicky about the ammo and several brands and loads need to be tried to see what works in each gun. It is hammer fired and the light primer strikes indicates it needs a stronger spring which if Kel-Tec does not address then someone in the after market will offer one.
The weak point is it's magazine. Seems you need to practice proper loading it correctly. T requires loading a certain procedure and way. After every few rounds you have to tap the mag to make sure they are seated against their base. That and alternating how they are pushed into the mag side to side.
I would like to add one of these to my inventory.

  • @yukon065

I had one of these, but I suffer from the dreaded "big hands syndrome". I could barely get through a magazine without hitting the mag release with my palm. If they redesigned that I'd probably get another. I didn't experience any of the light primer strikes or any other issues.

I have the PMR 30 and I bought it five or six years ago. The only true issue that I have with it is the loading of the magazines. If you load it by hand, I guarantee you’re going to have fee problems if you load it with the little loader almost no problemspolish that feed ramp, especially if you’re gonna use hollowpoint ammo

FYI KelTec has come out with a firing pin revision, and I am convinced that it will solve most if not all problems when it comes to light strikes.
In the end, between loading the mags perfectly (using the Lula speed loader it's impossible to load it anything but perfectly) and using the "right" ammo (40gr MaxiMag or 45gr Critical Defense) the gun can be made to be 99%+ reliable. You can also tweak the gun via mcarbo stuff, but you also can add reliability by get an RJ Feddersen threaded barrel. The added 1" or so of barrel length seems to allow the gun to cycle with lighter rounds like 30gr V-Max.

As much as I like it I have been torn over getting the pmr-30 or the S&W .22 msg.
I can only afford 1-2 guns a year so I can’t afford to have something that shoots when it wants.
I have wanted a .22 mag since my dad had his 1956 Ruger .22 mag which I loved that revolver and it’s round up

That's a hard one. Keep in mind, even in my comments, people still love the PMR even with the flaws. It's a very unique pistol with unique challenges. If it helps, the pistol in the video runs fine now.

Every video on this gun I've watched has shown that the ones who have trouble are the ones who ignore Keltec's ammunition recommendation. I don't get it. Would you buy a car that requires high octane gas and use regular?

My pmr eats anything high velocity... loves the v max ..loves the Hornady critical defense rounds loves the a22 35 grain. As long as it's not a broad hollow point it eats it right up and I've never had q light primer... not 1... maybe a couple stove pipes.

People don't understand 22 magnum is a very underrated round, its always has been.
it punches very deep for a tiny bullet a 40 or more grain bullet, moving at 1875 to 2200 muzzle speeds and punching over 12 to 16in OR MORE.
Its more than enough to put somebody down, especially if you have a 30 of themor less even.
I don't understand why people compare it to a 22 long rifle, when it's far superior in penetration.

Mine still gets a round jammed in sideways at least once or twice ever mag. I sent it to them once and they replace the ejector and barrel and said it works flawlessly. Sent it back and it’s still doing it. I have put Mcarbo feed ramp, enhanced guide rod spring, flat trigger, mag release and it still FFE every mag. I’m really wanting this gun to run but mine sucks Biden.

The light primer strikes come from that plastic top plate with the orange sights in it! If you’ll take your weapon and pull the slide back you can see the flat rectangular piece of the firing pin! Push it back and fourth, oh wow and she sticks!!! Loosen the screws and sand that long rectangular piece of plastic that you see has rubbed the firing pins paint off in that same rectangular shape! Now sand it down or take a chisel very carefully and remove said plastic strip from under the plastic slide cap replace what may already be a broke firing pin and get their new updated firing pin and 💥 no more light strikes! You’re welcome

All guns jam, if you use them long enough, when I was in the military to different branches the 45 an excellent gun but a magazine can go bad while you're firing a week round of ammunition spring go bad especially under grueling conditions that's why that's why everybody's taught how to clear a jam or a misfire because it happens live with it, that's why you carry more than one, it's quicker to grab another 1
