  • I underestimated Kel Tec on this one.
Added note, the screws on the top are not for optics, but in fact, are an attachment point for the slide. An optic would add too much mass and would cause jams.

I use my P17 as my EDC and I feel very confident with it for my Self Defense Gun! I was a Glock Guy all my shooting life and I carried a G19 as my Duty Gun for many years but Old age (78) has now become a factor for me and some physical problems with my Arms/Hands, precludes me from shooting more powerful guns! I now only shoot the 22LR or 22 Magnum Guns and I can shoot them as good as I did my 9mm handguns! I have more fun at my LGR here in Sunny Florida and I'm saving a bunch of money on ammo! Great Video!

A word to the wise....many of the cheaper guns I have purchased over the last 42 years I thought would be turds and junk ended up being awesome. The reverse is often true for some of the more expensive things that were beautiful and moderately or very expensive. Makes you madder than a hornet when a $800+ pistol is junk and won't shoot straight. When a $200 gun shoots dead on POA/POI and NEVER jams you have really accomplished something. Price doesn't always reflect quality or good engineering/designs. You get a $100 Heritage Rough Rider .22 that works perfect and is very accurate. You get a $600 Ruger Single Six with a canted barrel and looks like it was machined with a dull chainsaw! I've seen many younger less experienced "shooters" bash on Ravin 25s. The old ones made back in the early 80s when the Dad and old man owned the company were nearly perfect and never jammed...EVER! I know...I had one in the old brown plaid box that was bought brand new for $35.99.

I have two P17's which I purchased in the Summer oof 2021 and they both shoot great with no malfunctions right out of the box! I only have used CCI Mini Mags 40 grain ammo in both and I have gone through over 1000 rounds with no malfunctions, except a few Dud Rounds! I also have a CP33 and a PMR30, which have proved to be great guns for me! Just follow the user guide for all information and ammo use and you should have a great shooting experience!

Went to the range today and I was really surprised to say the least. I had 5 duds and the last one got stuck in the pipe. Gotta get some "new" ammo. Ate everything except for the five. Didn't have to adjust the sights, but it wouldn't matter no how, my eyesight ain't what it used to be (maybe new glasses are in order). The trigger was super light, almost got away from me a couple of times. My ammo fooled me too, I had standard and HV mixed together, federal gave me the duds. Almost the best cheap 22 pistol I've bought..

It's hard to field strip properly and is therefore hard to clean thoroughly. After a year or so, you will almost certainly run into issues with failure to feed and/or eject and ammo sensitivity. You can tear it down further, but may violate the warranty in doing so. It's only meant to be minimally field stripped.

Cheap gun, fun , cheaper ammo for target practice/plinking, and a .22lr can very much stop someone. Sure it's not maybe your first choice, but .22 is under estimated.

Got my P17 on sunday and it was a nightmare ....
Could not load that 16th round without a fight, ended up putting a huge dent in the case of the 15th round just to get the 16th round in ....
Then the mag would not lock up into place, only with the slide locked open.
Then it would NOT chamber that 16th round at all. The slide kept jamming while trying to chamber it. Even trying to push it into battery it would not go.
I gave up on that 16th round and went with 15 rounds.
Finally the mag locked in with a closed slide and chambered that 15th round with ease ...
    THEN ..
Every 2nd or 3rd shot it would fail to feed or cycle and got stove pipes ....
    Every mag had this issue.
These were with CCI AR Tactical 40 grain 1200 fps. Which work PERFECT in my MP15-22.
I just got some CCI Mini Mags 36 grain 1260 fps that im going to try on this P17 to see if those help. If not im calling Keltec ...

@@RattlesnakeDefense Well today i took the P17 to the range using CCI Mini Mags and all 150 rounds fired off PERFECTLY.
I had maybe 2 or 3 times where the slide would not chamber the 16th round but with a slight push on the slide, it chambered.
It fired and cycled all 150 rounds with ease.
Even tried some CCI Stingers and all 50 fired with ease, and i could def tell the difference between the mini mags and the stingers, the stingers had a bit more kick to them and they create a fire "light" at the end of the barrel, pretty cool looking.

I see no reason that would not work. 22 is not ideal, but still lethal.

Fear not the plastic mags.....$600 Glocks still use them

Yes, but in my defense, these mags feel like toy plastic, not like glock plastic. They work tho.

Dude,at least learn the basics of the gun your gonna review.
I liked your video but the negative comments made im the firet few minutes created credibility issues with me. I have several guns including the p17.Ive shot about 1000 rounds to date and had to gailures in thr first 200 rounds. Normal break un to me.none since.
    Just my humble opinion.

I went out not expecting much. I was proven wrong. I admit it, it's a great little pistol and I underestimated it.

Make up for smaller caliber by using more volume. I like it.
