"save this poor creature" - the damage to their MIND has already been done over 52 years of human enslavement ABUSE. Focus on the TRILLIONS of other baby animal living beings that still stand a chance. This is the thing that most people don't get, it's not the 'killing of animals', it's the enslavement/abuse (force breeding, generation after generation.......), abhorrent factory farms, sick human 'enterslavement'..... But great to see that you have finally cottoned-on to the most important matters on Earth / for humanity, Jimmy. This is the most important matter for humanity to solve today. A vision of freeing all living beings from slavery/hell on Earth. It's extremely damaging to humanity - almost (dare I say it) unforgivable. Something needs to change fast in society's mindset.

I used to work at a facility that enslaved dolphins for tourists in Hawaii. I made friends with one of the dolphins, who would wait for me to finish my shift every day then I would hang out with her and talk to her, pet her etc. She would click and squeak and whistle in response to my conversation. They had repeatedly forcibly bred her (artificial insemination / rape) and sold the babies to other facilities for $150K each.
One morning I arrived to work to find all the trainers scurrying around the pool and panicking. Turns out my friend the dolphin was dead. They had recently sold another one of her babies, and she was clearly upset recently. She had refused to do shows and was being punished for that by being placed in an even tinier section of the tank and reduced food. But now she was dead. After reviewing surveillance footage, it was clear she had committed suicide. She had swam to the bottom of the tank, and released all her air, then breathed in water, something dolphins never do accidentally.
I quit the same day, and have been telling everyone who will listen that these places need to be closed forever. It is so wrong to cage these amazingly intelligent creatures in a tiny tank for their entire lives. it is WRONG. No question about it.

@Psilocybe Cubensis even as a meat eater I'm almost a vegan now because of the way most farms treat their animals. My grandfather was a farmer and taught me how the animals come first to be fed cleaned brushed and let out for exercise before we got to eat breakfast. There were no problems with overcrowding. And yes I know you will say they get killed to feed us. That is just s fact of life being a meat eater. This is so tragic. Lolita, also called Tokitae and Sk'aliCh'elh-tenaut by Washington State's Lummi Nation, deserves a better life. Her relatives (Southern Residents) spend several months of the summer and fall in Puget Sound. Have you heard of Corky? She is a Northern Resident and the oldest orca in captivity. She is incredibly sweet and gentle. She has 'adopted' and nurtured many motherless calves, including Orkid (whose mother was Kandu V, one of the orcas shown in Tilikum's documentary) and Tilikum's sons Sumar and Ikaika. Corky has family in the wild - her sister is the matriarch of the A5 pod, which also includes her brother, niece and grand-nephews. Corky has been in captivity since 1969. She lives at Seaworld San Diego.

I live in FL and I didn't even know about this. I know someone who used to work at Sea World as a vetenarian. She told me when Orcas are kept in captivity too long, they cannot be released back into the wild because the don't have the learned skills to survive. Dolphins do better, but not a lot. After 52 years, and decades in isolation, the only option for this beautiful creature is to euthanize her. I hate zoos. I hate "marine parks". So cruel. So inhuman. I'm no tree hugger, but every human with a concience, including myself, should be moved to action by all this. I'll see you there in June, Jimmy. And thank you so much for all you do.

I feel your sentiment, and in principle animals should not be in zoos or aquariums.
However, when the 27 year old orca Keiko was released from the Mexico City aquarium in 2003 and brought back outside Iceland (where he was captured as a two year old), he was introduced to other whales. But soon found himself alone along the Norwegian coast seeking out people. Keiko only lived for a total of 18 months in freedom over there, and died alone in a Norwegian fjord from pneumonia and other causes. Having been in captivity for that long, it’s hard to go back to the wild. Lolita, 50 years in an aquarium, it’s like a life long prison, having been “institutionalized” among people, and going back to the wild brings no guarantee that she will be accepted into another orca family. And hunting alone is not an option for orcas to survive.
I guess perhaps, the goal is to get her released, and then she can die in freedom …?…

Thank you for showing this specific story and bringing to light the problems of cetaceans being kept in captivity. It is one thing to have a huge enclosure for many animals which, lets be honest is still too small for them. But it is one thing to do that, and have a single animal that has the potential to be even smarter than out closest cousins the Chimps and Bonobos in a tiny tank in complete isolation. Black fish opened my eyes even more so than Free Willy 1 and 2 did. Please people, lets get her out of there and HOPEFULLY release her back into the wild!
