Only orca I've ever seen in real life. When I was just 7 back in October 1999, my family went down from Wisconsin to Miami and we went to the Seaquarium with a cousin. Saw Lolita perform twice that day, and I've never forgotten seeing her. Still have old photos of her and that day. I was too young to realize how tiny her tank was or the protests wishing her released. I was just caught up in having a dream come true of seeing an orca. Haven't seen another live orca ever since.

My only orca experience was going to see Keiko several times when he was being rehabilitated at the Oregon Coast Aquarium! Even though I was 11 when he came to Newport, I can still remember his amazing transformation. I'm glad I was exposed at a young age to the truth of aquatic parks!!

i saw a video posted three years ago where there was a plan made by a marinebiologist and I'd hoped that meant they could and have implemented it.. but seeing her still in florida is horrible and.. hopeless.
Edit: I saw another one from last month saying that she's not performing anymore but no one knows if she's going to get moved

She is not geriatric! Her mother is in her 90s and still swimming wild. Lolita is suffering from decades of inadequate space. Orcas swim about a hundred miles a day. They dive down deep for long periods of time, they can protect themselves from the sun, she can do non of these things. Let her go!

Can Miami Seaquarium find a donor to pay for her to retire to a sea sanctuary? I don't know if there's a sea sanctuary available - if not can some kind individuals make this happen? Apparently she's been in this small tank for 50 years.

I watched the official released video from Miami Seaquarium and was immediately irate. The trainers are talking under umbrellas to block the hot sun rays, but Lolita doesn't get any shade? Just let her go to a sanctuary so she doesn't end up in the landfill like Hugo did after he committed suicide. 🥺😭💔

Wtf!! I thought that they didn't have Orcas in captivity anymore? And in my hometown? This is pathetic. I have a 6 yr old and my girl always ask me "why u never come to the zoo or seaquarium with us"? This is why!

The idea that we take a wild animal out of their natural habitat and make them perform tricks and stunts for our entertainment is absolutely and utterly disgusting. That animal is not subject to our entertainment, and poor and ill proper housing. That animal needs to be taking care of and then released. If even possible due to the long entended captivity, if shes able to be released.

Just do away with the whole show already. I've been when it was actually a good show. Now, it's just a shell of the old show and plus it sucks for the whales. Turn it into a theme park with no whales already.

She's now officially going home. They're training her to swim into a sling harness for when she's eventually taken back to Washington's Puget Sound. Plans are underway to get her sea pen ready for her to live in near where the L pod swims through regularly, including her mom Ocean Sun.
