Whales are pretty smart, they were probably just curious. I mean, it was a ROWING craft...100 miles off the coast...the whales were like, "You lost bro?"
Cute !😅
Probably hoping the boat is food
Yea how in the world does a row boat get 100 miles off the coast? What is this 300 bc
@@FarmHandz-cx4rnthere are sturdy rowboats like his that are capable of crossing oceans. It looks like he has a cabin behind him where he can sleep and use the bathroom (probably a bucket unfortunately). It will also have all his supplies and all is electronic equipment like gps, weather, AIS, and everything else he needs. There are even racing competitions in which people row across the ocean in groups for weeks. Pretty brutal to train for and endure!
before they said why he was out that far, i said to myself " wtf are you out that far on a row boat."
I would rather have it be a large group of whales than a large group of sharks.
Dude is lucky he got to experience that.
Thankfully it wasn't killer whales animals during mating season are usually pretty dangerous.
No known human fatalities by killer whales in the wild. In captivity there have been a few. And yes, I know that some Orcas have been attacking boats for a couple of years - no deaths though.
@@EdwardM919 Killerwhales only attack humans while they're in captivity there are no known recordings of killer whales ever attacking a human.
They do approach humans because they're curious.
This is true but he is in a very small boat and those are - whales.
😂 way to look at the bright side 😊. I would be completely freaked out but that's why we row, mental health supporters and whales unite 😊
Congratulations, you've been adopted!!
Looks like dolphins
Apodted
@@jakeo8910😅 NICE

dolphins and cetaceans sing the song of Creation
Hes a Lucky guy, thats a once in a lifetime experience.
@@philbertov823 , he does have a name, a good name, fortunately it's NOT Jonah 😔😄
What if he does it again tomorrow?
@@kenhasibar2624 highly doubtful.
That’s what I was thinking, nice gift from god. Unless they tipped my boat over 🐳🐋🐬
As long as those whales are there you know sharks won’t be… you a long way from shore pray you keep a few curious whales interested. 🫣
It’s almost as if they were ‘piloting’ him along. Literally. Pretty awesome.
Pilot whales are actually large dolphins
they swim like dolphins
Dolphins are actually small pilot whales
The human head weighs 8 pounds.
@@dude462643Touché!! 👍
Platypuses sweat milk 🥛
Enjoy the moment. Not everyone gets the privilege to experience them.
Whales :we can go band for band
You go experience it, as for me, I'll experience that from afar off
Maybe they want to pilot hoo-mans back to sanity!
Blessed 🐝...
You do realize they could accidentally capsize, and kill him, don't you?
They aren't going to try to eat him, but they're big enough to capsize and hurt him even if unintentionally.
Kept him safe from predators, what s blessing!!! 🐋😮🐋🙏🕊️
They were his pilots.
What predators?
@@rh906 most likely sharks. Sharks won’t come near when there is a large pod of dolphins (which pilot whales are) as dolphins can be vicious when in a pod as they go into “protective mode”
What beautiful creatures they are ❤
he is the clearly the chosen one
Bless You, Sir, on your journey.🌸
And he has a pilot. Lots of pilots.
That is his Spirit Animal. He is blessed by the Pilot Whale.
That's definitely a singular experience and I'm glad he survived the moment. Hopefully his charity goal has been met, surpassed and multiplied. ❤❤
Pilot "whales" are dolphin. In fact, they sometimes breed with bottlenose dolphins in captivity to produce hybrids.
They're cute dolphins with big fat heads.
Btw, notice how they "pilot" his boat?
I would have chilled out when I realized it was whales and not sharks
Nothing wrong with sharks either. Stop watching Shark week.
@@blobbertmcblob4888
Amen to that. Sharks are awesome.
Sharks have many species
Not all species of sharks are dangerous some of them are chill
You don't know what you will do until you're in a row boat in the middle of the ocean with a hundred whales breaching all around you.
Everyone here does realize the orcas are the most dangerous predator in the ocean?
A friend of mine took me and 2 of his other friends (dad and son, not important) fishing off the coast of San Diego, where we live. His boat, while being big enough for 4, is a little bit crowded, so I went to fish from the bow and the 3 of them fished from the stern. I looked back and said "hey, guys, I think I know why we aren't going to catch anything today" they all said "why?" I said look straight in front of you (all 3 of them had been staring straight at their lines in the water, about 10 ft from the boat) but about 30 ft away from the boat were THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of dolphins, a huge super pod, just as stealthy and silent as anything could possibly be! Best day fishing EVER! 😮
The whales were probably protecting him from the sharks. They were aware of what he was rowing for & piloted him along.
Yeah for sure absolutely
My thoughts too. Whales are highly intelligent, and know when sharks are up to no good.
Naughty sharks
No. And I hope to God that your last sentence wasn't serious
@@trninfan Go touch grass and lighten up nerd.
Whales are smart and curious. They are just saying waddup.
They were guiding the way. Beautiful

Yes, guiding the way just like a pilot :)

Looks like things are going very whale on his long trip.
Get em with the dad jokes lol. I giggled.
I see what you did there. 😁
What a noble cause. All the best.

As a less adventurous guy, one of my favorites is when I'm surrounded by a large group of donuts.
yuuuumy❤
The whales were just having fun person watching.
Overwhelming! Beautiful, exciting, and (more than) a little scary!
The whales knew what he was doing.
Whales have no concept of what he's doing other than "creature moving around on top of the water"
And they were his "pilot".
That's quite an escort and a whale of tale indeed🐳
Whale of **tail**. How did you miss that opportunity?!?
is it not ironic that a man raising money for a mental health charity is committed to an action any other person would call "crazy"?
How about the extremely exaggerated number of whales.
@@theferalfemalesociety Based on just that video, I estimated he was surrounded by at least seven hundred million thousand whales.
@@fibonacho Spot on.
Somehow, this brings peace to my heart.
Hmmm.
He lived to tell the story!!! Beautiful, yes. Terrifying, absolutely.
They are like dolphins, they will not hurt you.
@@Ausgar-yc1ylTbf, dolphins are actually more dangerous than these guys 😂
Whales: "Freeze!" "You are under arrest!"
"We've got you surrounded!"
"I'm not rowing, I'm paddling... I have a right to paddle... Black's law dictionary says that rowing means that a boat is engaging in nautical commerce and this is my personal aquatic conveyance... What jurisdiction are you whales operating under, is this common law or nautical law? I don't understand... Am I being detained? Derp derp derpity derp!"
They were protecting him from nearby shark's 🦈
curiosity is the hallmark of intelligence. Clearly its highly unusual for a single human to be so far out in such a small craft. They were definitely into it!
Better than sharks!
They were protecting him, from something bad. Something else was probably following him for a distance, and the whales saw, and intervened. That's why they surrounded him, in a circle that way. That is amazing.
Thousands is a bit of an over estimation but awesome experience none the less.
Blessing for his travels ✨️ 🐬
"dude, wtf are you doing out here?"
Scary? Their presence is keeping the sharks far from you. Be thankful they're there.
Common in pilot whale pods
He was blessed
Maybe they’re his “police escort “ and the bump was just an accident by an overexcited kid
Before clicking i already knew what kind of person was in the water
They have telepathic skills
They are smarter than you think

Note how the poet respectfully refers to the dormouse as a ‘fellow mortal’ !
The way it should be , I think.
And they are our pilots.
Wow how beautiful. I never saw a pod this large.
The whales were skilled at what they did.
So surprising to see Whales in the ocean
🤣
They're protecting him
They're piloting him.
That’s what I thought
I sometimes fantasize about going snorkeling, even though I've never snorkeled before, and freeing a whale from a trap, like a giant underwater mouse trap, and it's so grateful that we become best friends forever and hang out on the second Saturday of almost every month.
When it laughs, it sounds just like a dolphin. And its favorite band is the Kinks.
1000 whales? Bet he counted every time the fin emerged above the water.
I mean, you can't 100% prove it's not a new one every time. Logic checks out.

@@BOBK-jf4qx 🤣🤣
those whales are harmless, just curious is all
There's some distance between "harmless" and "not seeing you as a food source".
your dumb, these whales knock any boat overboard. Keep thinking you know anything in life
These whales believe in inclusion
Harmless? Yeah easy for you say as you sit on land in your comfortable home
Pilot whales aren't harmless.
Those whales just be supporting his mental health challenge.
They are there to make sure the mans journey is safe!!
Thought it was orcas for a second and thought "oh this guy's DONE done" lol glad it was pilot whales. So cool
for what its worth, orcas haven't killed a single person in the wild. he would arguably be safe surrounded by a pod of them.
Orcas don’t attack humans in the wild and have also been known to swim alongside rowers and other small boats as well as protecting humans from sharks.
True, the ocean has been overfished and the Orca are seeing the boats as competition for food.
You’re in their space, not the other way around.
No. It's our space, too. Humans have been in the ocean since the dawn of our species.
The ocean belongs to the ocean creatures. The ocean is their home, not ours.
@@sari-kitty hmmm, whales used to be land mammals so…what’s your point?

Whales are amazing, intelligent animals who view humans as friends. They are protective of us, especially humpback 🐋.

Had they've been orcas, this video may have turned out quite different...
Nah. He would have been okay. There has never been a recorded incident of an orca attacking and killing a human in the wild. The only known orca to have killed a human did so in captivity.
@@adamgarrick3778 actually, there is evidence of sea animals protesting against humans recently. Some are becoming aware of humans hunting them down/ polluting their homes.
