    • @ashleyr2517
      @ashleyr2517 2 года назад +2

      She doesn't have a much better chance than Kieko. Kieko was still fairly young in his 20s when he was reintroduced to his natural birth place. Lolita is 56 years old. She's considered an elderly orca. She was have much of harder time surviving in the wild. Kieko he was reintroduced into the wild, he wasn't in restraint ,he came and go as he pleased, he swam with other orcas from time to time but always came back to humans and his caretakers, that's why he was never going to be a wild orca again, because humans was a big part of his life, and he chose to be and to socialize with other people. He had the the freedom to do what we wanted.

    • @pixie3869
      @pixie3869 2 года назад +1

      @@ashleyr2517 as much as I love the idea of freeing all the wild caught orcas that are in captivity. It does seem that they grow very dependant on humans. Especially if they've been captured at a young age. I think her pod mate Hugo could have been a good candidate for release because he was older when he was captured and never adapted to humans. But the marine mammal entertainment industry was booming at that time. So no one took the time to pull the resources and research needed to do that sort of thing. Unfortunately Hugo ended up killing himself in captivity. Which left lolita with no family members or any semblance of who she is. Its a damn shame that humans would do stuff like that to these majestic and spiritual animals.
      Now that the industry is dying and more activists are making noise about it. There is more knowledge and resources to be able to help younger stranded orcas return safely back to their relatives. Which hopefully can put an end to keeping young stranded orcas like Morgan from being a loophole to try to rekindle the industry.

      Wild animals do not belong in captivity especially not when they are in a zoo or an aquarium being exploited for money. Animal jails try to get the public to believe that this is being done in the name of conservation and it couldn’t be further from the truth but yet people still want to go and take their children to see caged wild animals. Does anyone remember going to a petting zoo as a child? Ever bring your child to a petting zoo? Ever wonder what happens to those animals? They grow up and get slaughtered because they’re no longer cute little babies.

    I’m worried Lolita is going to die within six months or sooner. You can definitely tell something is wrong with her from the drone footage. I do not like Miami Seaquarium. I know I will never visit that place if I ever go back to Florida. I may be a Texan and usually morbid stuff doesn’t bother me, but I draw the line at feeding animals rotting fish. Miami Seaquarium claims it’s cheaper. And they fire her long time vet??? The vet that knew her! Then they bring in a vet that has six years experience and NO experience with killer whales??? The more I watch that news clip, the more I shake my head in disgust at how Lolita could be treated like this. Thank goodness Dolphin Group will be taking over and they have agreed to release Lolita to the Lummi Nation. Makes me want to support Whale Sanctuary Project’s work to create a sanctuary for former captive whales even more. I am not buying Miami Seaquarium’s claims that Lolita is getting better. I think that is to deflect attention away from what is really happening to Lolita.

      @MoonChaser. 2 года назад

      It’s not that simple. Yes Lolita’s pod is out there and I’m very much sure that they remember her. But Lolita has been locked up for over 50 years, she is simply not fit to live in the ocean. She would need major physiotherapy just so she could swim in the oceans formidable waves, and there is no way she’d be able to keep up with any pod. There are diseases out there she hasn’t built the immune system for, she hasn’t eaten fresh and wild fish since she was 4 years old. Her pod can only help her so much and that’s if they decide they want too. I’m afraid plopping her back into the ocean would kill her way faster than if we kept her here. The best option is to move her to a much larger tank, with people who are dedicated to looking after her in the best way possible as soon as possible.

      @@tessdurberville711 if there are orcas living with dolphins it's only in captivity. There are basically three kinds of killer whales in the North Pacific. Resident, transient, and offshore. Resident do not eat orcas, or any other red meat, they strictly are fish eaters. Transient eat dolphins as a regular part of their diet, if they can catch them. Offshore will eat dolphins, but they tend to stay further offshore and go after bigger game. None of the orcas will seek out dolphins for socialization, but dolphins are known to seek out resident orcas and will actually hang out with them for up several weeks at a time. Researchers suggest this is done for the dolphins safety as residents and transients actively avoid each other. Those researchers also suggest that the dolphins do this in order to learn more about orcas in general, so they can learn how to better avoid the transient orcas. So while some places may keep orcas and dolphins in the same cage, orcas in the wild do not seek out dolphins for anything other than to eat them

    I am also seriously concerned about the aggressive behavior Lolita was showing towards her dolphin tank mates. That is behavior seen in the wild. I am beginning to think these animals are too big and too smart to be in captivity and I’m rethinking my opinion of whales in captivity. I used to think it was okay to go to places like SeaWorld and watch a whale show but now I think they shouldn’t be in captivity. Killer whales are animals capable of planning hunts strategically and efficiently. Animals that can coordinate an attack on a seal resting on an ice floe in the wild. That is how intelligent they are. I am finding I would much rather learn about orcas watching a nature documentary rather than go to a marine park where all you do is sit there with beer and popcorn and watch animals do tricks. That is not teaching people about conservation. That is entertainment.
